In my honest opinion, Terminator 3 is very underrated. Yes, it's not as good as the first two films, but I argue it's better than the 3 Terminator films that followed this. I wholeheartedly believe that, 16 years later, it holds up decently well. And if anyone doesn't respect my opinion or my understanding why, well then..... *TALK TO THE HAND*
I will always be a T3 defender. At the point that it was made the Terminator had become a cultural icon. So, the humor for me absolutely worked minus the talk to the hand bit and the elton john glasses. For me, the best humor was from Arnold's deadpan one liners, and his "basic psychology" dialogue. At this point he's so iconic that he can survive some mild parody moments like the stripper scene which I liked. The T-X was just eye-candy that could kick ass. I can't complain. The ongoing criticism of Nick Stahl as John Connor seems misplaced. Fans are expecting John the ideal, the archetype, the hyped up legend.... but within the story coming off of T2 where they averted Judgment Day, him being a bad ass warrior savior wouldn't make as much sense. He still has to be a human character, and in T3 he fits as someone who feels he no longer has a purpose or a place. He also reflects the character his mother was in T1, who like her didn't want the responsibility. It is indeed a gigantic overwhelming cloud that followed John wherever he went. A lil bit of empathy goes a long way. Of course T3 is not gonna measure up to Cameron, but to me it's a solid and fun sci-fi action film with a great ending.
I feel like a lot of fans give this movie an unfair go... It was entertaining in parts, tried it's best to stick to the formula and didn't disrespect any of the characters. I feel like the newer ones are so convoluted we should appreciate the simplicity of T3 as cheap entertainment.
Mike Cranston Nothing wrong with me. I just have a different opinion than u. I just thought T3 was a lot of fun. I liked where the story went with the dark ending. I liked the Terminatrix, the action sequences and the performances. I still think T2 is great, I just like T3 a little more. The fact that I found Edward Furlongs whinny performance a little annoying is one of the reasons I prefer 3
Hey Sean. I definitely feel differently about this one. I had a lot of fun with T3. I prefer Nick Stahl as John Conner. I Found Furlong to be whinny and annoying in T2. Just a fun ride with great action sequences, a great new villain and a great unexpected downbeat ending. I know a lot of people don’t like it and that’s fine but for me it’s my second favorite in the franchise behind the first movie

I started Yesterday watching the Terminator movies and I've already watched Terminator 2 and I wanna watch Terminator 3&4&5 today and tomorrow so I can go to Terminator 6 as soon as possible. I can't believe I haven't watched Terminator until yesterday Terminator 2 is hands down one of the best movies I've ever seen and one of my favorites.

I was 8 years old when i watched T3 and i really enjoyed it to be honest and i grew up with the movie... also i remembered seeing massive posters of T3 hanging out side buildings in a the city where i live which is something i always remember as it was the one thing that really wanted me to see it as i loved the first 2 movies. Ok let’s be fucking real. Terminator 3 isn’t a bad movie. It’s just not. People jump on the band wagon but in reality it’s the 2nd or 3rd best terminator we’ve had. Compared to the new garbage it’s amazing.
Probably not a good one. Jurassic Park is a mixed bag for some critics, but most people actually love it, so that's the perfect example of a Taco Bell movie. This movie is just a rehash of Terminator 2, with a lot of hilariously bad comedic moments, an inconsistent tone and a familiar plot with little or nothing new added to the franchise. I think it's just an average mediocre film and it's my least favorite of the franchise.
I think T3 is a good movie, just not a great Terminator movie. Then again, Terminator 3: Rise Of The Machines was my first Terminator movie, so I had fun for sure.

In my opinion I don't think having a different Terminator in other movies hurting the franchise....If you continue having the same ones in other movues then eventually it would get boring after awhile so you have to definitely switch it up in different movie for other Generations... With these movies it's not just for the fans anymore.... I like how Claire Danes character Katherine Brewster carry-ons to the 4th film which was replaced by Bryce Dallas Howard was amazing in Terminator:Salvation!!!
Clearly better than Salvation & Genisys in my opinion. So this will be the measuring stick for Dark Fate. And from what I've heard the CGI in Dark Fate is garbage in some parts plus it's 16 years later so T3 can't entirely be faulted for some of their scenes. I have this feeling that for people who grew up and saw T3 in theatres will be on the fence with Dark Fate.
I don't understand the contradictions. Sean, you say that you hate movies that basically undo the previous movies, but that's what EVERY Terminator sequel does, including T2. They have too. That's what happens in Time Travel movies, lol. Dark Fate immediately cancels out T2 within 5 minutes! What's great about T3, compared to every other sequel after T2 is that is that the story makes sense, and builds off the foundation of the previous movies. The reason T2 happened was because of the parts Arnie left behind in the factory in T1, so the tech could be researched. In T2, there was still parts of Arnie left behind, they didn't destroy it all....so thus the research could still continue. T3 was a great conclusion of the story. T2 was a great middle chapter, it was an Empire Strikes Back, you thought you ended on a good note, but you really didn't prevent anything. Not being able to change the future, only delay it was a bold choice. Nick Stahl made for a great John Connor, based off Edward Furlongs character. It was a great extension of the character from T2. It made sense that he was off the grid, and he was still kind of the whiny I didn't ask for any of this kinda kid. He wasn't a leader in T2, and he's not a leader in T3, until BAM, the realization that he has to step up and fulfill his legacy, in a matter of seconds. It's poetic. He's not supposed to be the great John Connor in this movie. And the Brewster twist, being his wife, that added depth to the story. Sure, the comedy was silly and forced at times, but so was some of it in T2, so T3 doubled down on it. That stuff didn't bother me or take me out of the movie. The story itself was excellent. The set pieces were ho hum....but better than anything in the last 2 movies. The FemTerminator had gadgetry that didn't make sense. But the whole point of this movie is the journey of John Connor actually becoming John Connor. THE John Connor. The events in T3, raise the overall story of the universe and completes an amazing scifi story.
Great review Sean! I like moments of Terminator 3 but overall find it to be a disappointment. I just wonder what the film would have been like with James Cameron back at the helm with the original cast.
A great Terminator trilogy would’ve been: T1 and 2 the same except the end of 2 is Judgement Day happening. And then the final movie, ie 3, would’ve been sort of along the lines of Genysis. Sending kyle reese back in time but have the timeline change and then have to fix the timeline, with Sarah giving birth to young John at the very end to close out the trilogy.
I just want to point out that yes that is actually how modems work. When a modem makes those noises the different noises are various pieces of encoded data such as numbers. The modem on the other end than decodes the signal based on a dictionary of what the signals mean. The two modems then essentially talk to each other in order to shake hands, and validate that the dialing modem has a right to access the network. If you are interested in how this stuff works you should search google for "Steve Wozniak Blue Box". In the 70s before they had too many security systems in place, you could anonymously call the pope.
I agree with you completely. When I first saw this the day it came out .I fairly enjoyed it. Felt like 1 and 2 mixed together. But the problem I have always had with this movie and the big movie sin for me that I noticed that first time seeing it....continuity. john connor was 10 years old in T2...the first line of this movie was when I was 13 machines tried to kill me. I dont know if they did that to set up kate and John making out At a party because 10 year old dont do that but it's still a major continuity problem for me. If I can notice it how can people who made this movie and obviously have seen the previous movies ignore and change
The humour was one of the biggest problems I always had with Terminator 3. And the thing that kills me about the talk to the hand bit is that by the time Terminator 3 came out talk to the hand was way Played out! That was such a mid 90s type of bit that you would have seen in something like Bad Boys 1.

Here's my my post T-2 list, from bad-to-good: Salvation (awful), Genysis (ick, but Arnie v Arnie did Gemini Man trick years ago, and maybe better). T3 (you're right, the end just worked.) And my best post-T-2 is Sarah Connor Chronicles series. Sadly, it was Fox cancel-bait. But it was doing emerging A.I. storylines that would be relevant now.
Ladies' night may happen. 'talk to the hand' is 'f u a**hole' of part one. love blood is a big t-x' system re-root for killing a primary target. followed by kind of an emotion (even t-1000 had some). John Connor is logical. His mother is dead. She was a 'big future' teacher for him and now she's gone. No leader. No social life. (public enemy, heh :)) Sill have to agree on some of your points. (glasses, cgi, throws, shellbeback)
I happened to stumble across Cody Leach's video so I decided to watch this, which is actually the first time I've seen this specific video on your channel and honestly the number one negative, which to me is the most sacrilegious and offensive is the way they wrote out Sarah Connor. That to me is a trillion times more offensive than what they did to John in dark fate. I said it on Cody's channel and I'll say it again, the beginning a dark fate is oscar-worthy material compared to what they did to Sarah in the original T3. That hits me way harder. I know social media and RUclips weren't huge back then, but I wonder if the outrage for how they wrote Sarah out of Terminator 3 was as big or bigger than the outrage to John's death in dark fate.
T3's biggest sin (pun intended) is bloat. Classic sequelitis where the people involved thought that bigger = better. This movie would've benefited from being a lot shorter, or if they were going to have a long movie, actually ensure Sarah was around. Her not being there was a big let down.
With this one we get a grim ending I think it’s a good idea to have a little bit of comedy be thrown into this movie you’ll be surprise when I do a movie review of this will be walking I’m back if you want me to Sean boy
Surprised you didn't mention a pretty big knock against this movie. Sarah Connor dying of cancer off screen with barely any impact on the story. I know it's because Linda turned it down but it's still insulting viewing it as an actual continuation. However I mostly agree with you that I can have fun with this film, a big plus is that awesome ending, great pace and fun action even if it's a copy paste of T2.
It has some great action scenes but the John Connor actor was awfull. I agree the tone of the movie is off. If they made it more darker i think this movie could be great. Terminator is an orginal sci-fi action thriller genre ( semi horror). The Female Terminator ( forgot her name) wasn't that bad. That weird sound is the same sound if you connect with the internet through phonelines. And she also use radio waves to connect the cars. Remember this movie was in 2003. There wasn't any available Wifi or G4/G5 network like we ( consumers) now use. Also she is a better "combined" version of the T1000 and T800, so her abilities aren't that strange that she can make a weapon with her right arm. The only reason for me she flawed was that she isn't scarry enough. Arnold and Robert Patrick made you scared and fearful. But she lacks that on the screen. Her appereance and John Connor brought down this movie for me. Still has enjoyable moments but ends up as an average movie. I still in doubt which one was worse this or Genisys. I like Christian Bale as John Connor. Not playing the perfect guy or big fat loser like in T3, but a human struggling with emotions and making wrong decisions. The same what his mother Sarah had in T2. T3 is overall a 5/10.
This felt like a parody of the first 2, and also felt like it undid the idea of "there is no fate", but the first one really played like there WAS fate kind of anyway. So some good, but tonally a complete miss fire, and inconsistent in that tone to boot.
Arnold can't even act like a terminator in this one. His performance is awful therefore this movie is awful. Every terminator released since has been a cash in, just like Star Wars. Stop giving this hot garbage attention and let these franchises die.
If this was just a sci-fi action blockbuster with Arnold showing up I enjoy this movie. But as a Terminator film it kind of dropped the ball. I suppose I still enjoy this film enough but it’s the worst of the franchise.
I do enjoy T3, but it does have short comings. To much bad comedy shite. John Connor is terrible and the tx is a joke, but like I said I do still enjoy the film.

You can say all you want about this movie I still enjoyed it alot and I still consider it a good solid terminator movie this the third best loved the day shoots, and some of the funnies T-800 grabs police officer off of motorcycle, T-800: get off.. TX: I like this car snaps woman's neck, John Conner: Don't you remember me hasta levista what are you guys come in assemble line or something. T-800 response emotionless exactly. I also amour how much they use brick cell phones in the movie which is my main cell phone still to this day. I also amour this movie way more then Dark Fate because there is no racist statement against white people as well. its not as great as the first two but I can easily pop this in any time and have a good time with Nick Stahl performance along with Kristina Loken as the TX and if you didn't like what you see go check out my fan edit I did.
T3 was where the franchise started going downhill, the comedic tone was very off and does not fit in with this franchise. Take the ladies stripper night opening does feel more of a SNL skit than a Terminator movie "Talk to the hand." really your gonna go there. What were the filmmakers thinking, note the Terminator franchise has been released by different studios, this entry was released by Warner Bros so who knows maybe the execs their wanted this lighter tone. Note when this film was being made Arnold was pushing for WWE star Chyna to play the TX before it eventually went to Kristenna Lokken.
I think i like t3 more than a lot of people. It was fun to watch.

it isn't nearly as good as the first 2 but i still enjoy. i gave it a 6,5/10

I saw T3 on opening weekend, the only part i disliked was "it was cyberspace" bit. I did get 2 disc DVD

What's great about T3, compared to every other sequel after T2 is that is that the story makes sense, and builds off the foundation of the previous movies. The reason T2 happened was because of the parts Arnie left behind in the factory in T1, so the tech could be researched. In T2, there was still parts of Arnie left behind, they didn't destroy it all....so thus the research could still continue. T3 was a great conclusion of the story. T2 was a great middle chapter, it was an Empire Strikes Back, you thought you ended on a good note, but you really didn't prevent anything. Not being able to change the future, only delay it was a bold choice. Nick Stahl made for a great John Connor, based off Edward Furlongs character. It was a great extension of the character from T2. It made sense that he was off the grid, and he was still kind of the whiny I didn't ask for any of this kinda kid. He wasn't a leader in T2, and he's not a leader in T3, until BAM, the realization that he has to step up and fulfill his legacy, in a matter of seconds. It's poetic. He's not supposed to be the great John Connor in this movie. And the Brewster twist, being his wife, that added depth to the story. Sure, the comedy was silly and forced at times, but so was some of it in T2, so T3 doubled down on it. That stuff didn't bother me or take me out of the movie. The story itself was excellent. The set pieces were ho hum....but better than anything in the last 2 movies. The FemTerminator had gadgetry that didn't make sense. But the whole point of this movie is the journey of John Connor actually becoming John Connor. THE John Connor. The events in T3, raise the overall story of the universe and completes an amazing scifi story.

Great review Sean! I like moments of Terminator 3 but overall find it to be a disappointment. I just wonder what the film would have been like with James Cameron back at the helm with the original cast.

A great Terminator trilogy would’ve been: T1 and 2 the same except the end of 2 is Judgement Day happening. And then the final movie, ie 3, would’ve been sort of along the lines of Genysis. Sending kyle reese back in time but have the timeline change and then have to fix the timeline, with Sarah giving birth to young John at the very end to close out the trilogy.

I just want to point out that yes that is actually how modems work. When a modem makes those noises the different noises are various pieces of encoded data such as numbers. The modem on the other end than decodes the signal based on a dictionary of what the signals mean. The two modems then essentially talk to each other in order to shake hands, and validate that the dialing modem has a right to access the network. If you are interested in how this stuff works you should search google for "Steve Wozniak Blue Box". In the 70s before they had too many security systems in place, you could anonymously call the pope.
I like this movie. I kind of think the franchise ends with t2, but I was entertained by this film. Definitely a bit underrated.

I agree with you completely. When I first saw this the day it came out .I fairly enjoyed it. Felt like 1 and 2 mixed together. But the problem I have always had with this movie and the big movie sin for me that I noticed that first time seeing it....continuity. john connor was 10 years old in T2...the first line of this movie was when I was 13 machines tried to kill me. I dont know if they did that to set up kate and John making out At a party because 10 year old dont do that but it's still a major continuity problem for me. If I can notice it how can people who made this movie and obviously have seen the previous movies ignore and change

The humour was one of the biggest problems I always had with Terminator 3. And the thing that kills me about the talk to the hand bit is that by the time Terminator 3 came out talk to the hand was way Played out! That was such a mid 90s type of bit that you would have seen in something like Bad Boys 1.

Here's my my post T-2 list, from bad-to-good: Salvation (awful), Genysis (ick, but Arnie v Arnie did Gemini Man trick years ago, and maybe better). T3 (you're right, the end just worked.) And my best post-T-2 is Sarah Connor Chronicles series. Sadly, it was Fox cancel-bait. But it was doing emerging A.I. storylines that would be relevant now.
Ladies' night may happen. 'talk to the hand' is 'f u a**hole' of part one. love blood is a big t-x' system re-root for killing a primary target. followed by kind of an emotion (even t-1000 had some).
John Connor is logical. His mother is dead. She was a 'big future' teacher for him and now she's gone. No leader. No social life. (public enemy, heh :))

I happened to stumble across Cody Leach's video so I decided to watch this, which is actually the first time I've seen this specific video on your channel and honestly the number one negative, which to me is the most sacrilegious and offensive is the way they wrote out Sarah Connor. That to me is a trillion times more offensive than what they did to John in dark fate. I said it on Cody's channel and I'll say it again, the beginning a dark fate is oscar-worthy material compared to what they did to Sarah in the original T3. That hits me way harder. I know social media and RUclips weren't huge back then, but I wonder if the outrage for how they wrote Sarah out of Terminator 3 was as big or bigger than the outrage to John's death in dark fate.
It isn’t a great movie , but I still enjoy watching it.
T3's biggest sin (pun intended) is bloat. Classic sequelitis where the people involved thought that bigger = better. This movie would've benefited from being a lot shorter, or if they were going to have a long movie, actually ensure Sarah was around. Her not being there was a big let down.
With this one we get a grim ending I think it’s a good idea to have a little bit of comedy be thrown into this movie you’ll be surprise when I do a movie review of this will be walking I’m back if you want me to Sean boy

The worst one is salvation.
Surprised you didn't mention a pretty big knock against this movie. Sarah Connor dying of cancer off screen with barely any impact on the story. I know it's because Linda turned it down but it's still insulting viewing it as an actual continuation. However I mostly agree with you that I can have fun with this film, a big plus is that awesome ending, great pace and fun action even if it's a copy paste of T2.

It has some great action scenes but the John Connor actor was awfull. I agree the tone of the movie is off. If they made it more darker i think this movie could be great. Terminator is an orginal sci-fi action thriller genre ( semi horror).
The Female Terminator ( forgot her name) wasn't that bad. That weird sound is the same sound if you connect with the internet through phonelines. And she also use radio waves to connect the cars. Remember this movie was in 2003. There wasn't any available Wifi or G4/G5 network like we ( consumers) now use.
Also she is a better "combined" version of the T1000 and T800, so her abilities aren't that strange that she can make a weapon with her right arm. The only reason for me she flawed was that she isn't scarry enough. Arnold and Robert Patrick made you scared and fearful. But she lacks that on the screen. Her appereance and John Connor brought down this movie for me. Still has enjoyable moments but ends up as an average movie. I still in doubt which one was worse this or Genisys.
I like Christian Bale as John Connor. Not playing the perfect guy or big fat loser like in T3, but a human struggling with emotions and making wrong decisions. The same what his mother Sarah had in T2.
T3 is overall a 5/10.

This felt like a parody of the first 2, and also felt like it undid the idea of "there is no fate", but the first one really played like there WAS fate kind of anyway. So some good, but tonally a complete miss fire, and inconsistent in that tone to boot.

If this was just a sci-fi action blockbuster with Arnold showing up I enjoy this movie. But as a Terminator film it kind of dropped the ball. I suppose I still enjoy this film enough but it’s the worst of the franchise.

You can say all you want about this movie I still enjoyed it alot and I still consider it a good solid terminator movie this the third best loved the day shoots, and some of the funnies T-800 grabs police officer off of motorcycle, T-800: get off.. TX: I like this car snaps woman's neck, John Conner: Don't you remember me hasta levista what are you guys come in assemble line or something. T-800 response emotionless exactly. I also amour how much they use brick cell phones in the movie which is my main cell phone still to this day. I also amour this movie way more then Dark Fate because there is no racist statement against white people as well. its not as great as the first two but I can easily pop this in any time and have a good time with Nick Stahl performance along with Kristina Loken as the TX and if you didn't like what you see go check out my fan edit I did.
T3 was where the franchise started going downhill, the comedic tone was very off and does not fit in with this franchise. Take the ladies stripper night opening does feel more of a SNL skit than a Terminator movie "Talk to the hand." really your gonna go there. What were the filmmakers thinking, note the Terminator franchise has been released by different studios, this entry was released by Warner Bros so who knows maybe the execs their wanted this lighter tone. Note when this film was being made Arnold was pushing for WWE star Chyna to play the TX before it eventually went to Kristenna Lokken.
