Knife making - Puukko

  • This time I attempt to reproduce the Kauhava puukko , guided by the popular video with Kustaa Lammi and also with great help from the "Work In progress" blog post from Jari Liukko (links below). I hope that I don't offend traditional Finnish craftsmen with my work , I now truly appreciate their skills because this is not easy at all. I made a lot of mistakes and I skipped the brass inlay in the bark and the engravings on the brass elements because I was afraid that I'll ruin it. This is not a video showing how to do it - It's video showing how I learn to do it :)

      This is really impressive. It is very true to the art and craftsmanship of a genuine Finnish puukko, and especially to its heritage. Skill is one thing, but expressing an appreciation of the cultural significance is another level. Respect.

      Здравствуйте, спасибо за хороший комментарий. Я пользуюсь гугл-переводчиком, поэтому не могу понять, в чем именно заключается ваш вопрос о бересте. может быть, если вы напишете это по-другому, я смогу перевести его и ответить на него. Хороший день для тебя

    • @BruhoRosh
      @BruhoRosh Год назад

      @@RustLegion , приветствую! Процесс пропитки бересты интересен. Для того, что бы береста стала долговечной, её пропитывают разными веществами. У некоторых мастеров это секрет, потому, не требую ответа. Кто-то обходится без пропитки и использует только клей.

    • @RustLegion
      @RustLegion  Год назад

      @@BruhoRosh Береста полна натуральной смолы и устойчива к воде. Его не нужно клеить. Клей только делает его тяжелым и твердым. Если он хорошо сжат, это хорошо. Его можно нагреть до 70 С и сжать. Я использую тунговое масло, чтобы закончить это. :)

      I used k510 steel , also known as silversteel or 1.2210 . I made a dummy knife because I had to wrap the brass brace around it and I was afraid that it will damage the birch bark. I guess it can be done without it but I decided to follow the Kustaa Lammi video.
