"Giant squid monster with wings" poor HP Lovecraft, to have his creation summed up so! LOL Cthulhu is a Cosmic entity created by H.P Lovecraft and first appeared in his short story "The Call of Cthulhu" in 1928. He made repeated appearances in Mr. Lovecraft's work and has inspired many other creators of various media throughout the decades. The most common features of Cthulhu are the humanoid head with lower half comprised of many tentacles, though they tend to be more like an octopus than a squid, the wings, and being bepedal. Oh, and the fact he drives everyone and everything completely bat-sh*t crazy! One of the best Lovecraft/Cthrulhu-inspired pieces I've seen is "In the Mouth of Madness" with Sam Neil. 10/10 highly recommend!
One of my favorite Metallica songs. You gotta give props, these dudes were like 19 - 20 years old in 1984 and the level of song writing and mastery of their instruments was crazy. There were other metal/thrash bands at this time but nobody was laying down tracks like Metallica.
So imagine this song is the necessary ingredient in summoning forth an alien lifeform living deep in the ocean. It's name is Cthulhu and it sleeps in Its City of Ry'leh deep beneath the waves. It is both asleep and yet not asleep(or not even alive) but one day, when the stars align, it'll wake up. This event - or maybe the first glance of Cthulhu - will basically render everyone infuckingsane, but that's totally fine, because Cthulhu plans to eat us and the planet anyway. Cliff Burton, the original bassist of the band, was a fan of Lovecraft, and would read his stories aloud; Lovecraft worked mostly in short stories, so it was something to do between practing for HOURS in the studio. Sadly, he was killed when their tour bus wrecked on icy roads in Sweden in 1986. The whole bad was there and saw it and..it was pretty gruesome. Burton was only 24. It's affected a lot of their music moving forward after that. Nothing Else Matters deals with his death, which is why it's one of slower, more sombre songs. They've done other Lovecraft songs; The Thing That Should Not Be, Dream No More, and All Nightmare Long.
You guys are correct. Thrash-metal is a subgenre of heavy metal, but heavy metal is also it's own genre. Metallicas first four albums are thrash metal classics. Their fifth is more mainstream heavy metal but still golden. Keep em coming respect
I think people try to make heavy metal a sub genre of itself, which is silly. It’s just that when the classic bands were starting out there were no sub genres. To make it easier to understand, perhaps “classic metal” should be used.

I agree with the first 4, although And Justice for All was a huge injustice to Jason from the start. They suppressed his bass lines to hell, although the album was still really good. Black album was decent but it was obvious that they were losing it by then.
In my opinion "Orion" is their best instrumental. Just take a listen to it, and I think you all will agree? Also "The Call OF Kutulu" was written by the Jimi Hendrix of bass Cliff Burton. Same with "Orion" written by Burton
What a fvckin half pure lie. Burton only introduced the book called The shadow of Innsmouth by Lovecraft. Dave Mustaine wrote the intro arpeggiated errie chord (which he later also used in Hanger 18 and other songs) followed by Burton wah absurd bass solo over 2 minute riff pattern written by Hedfield. The solo was written by Kirk, the outtro was written by Cliff, Lars and Hetfield and the whole song was arranged mainly by Lars. And in Orion, i know the song is all about Cliff and was also dedicated to him but Cliff only wrote the middle section bassline passage/solo and guitar harmony. Great track from an epic album. The title track is pretty cool too. About a prisoner going to the electric chair his crimes--hence, Ride the Lightning. You guys would def dig the lyrics too.
In some spots, you can hear a 'growling' noise. This was the bassist Cliff Burton using a distortion pedal and a wah wah pedal on his bass. I mention it because it's something you never hear. It is extremely rare for a bassist to run distortion pedals, much less other assorted guitar FX pedals, but Cliff was kind of a pioneer. He has a solo track called Anesthesia where he utilizes everything in his tool kit. Definitely worth a listen.
I've seen Metallica live five times in my life, and i just saw them in New Jersey last month. This probably sounds silly and sappy, but that was the first time I ever heard Call of Ktulu live, and I nearly cried. Glad y'all are enjoying Metallica. Enjoying your reactions. I strongly suggest you do a double header with Cliff Burton's bass solo Pulling Teeth (Anesthesia) straight into Whiplash ftom the Kill em All album. Never drive to that though.... it's a guaranteed ticket 🤣
"The Thing that should not Be" is a great compliment to this song.
Next you should do "Orion", another instrumental, and just as amazing
GUYS, IF YOU LOVED THIS INSTRUMENTAL MASTERPIECE, YOU MUST REACT TO "ORION" (TRY THE LIVE VERSION, THE MOST VIEW) AND "TO LIVE IS TO DIE", BY METALLICA OF COURSE. ENJOY THEM!!!🤘🏼🎶
OMG!! I'm so stoked you listened and checked out this song.... It's one of their absolute best and one of the best instrumental songs ever written.... Kudos guys on another great selection!!! Now check out Orion...
Great track from an epic album. The title track is pretty cool too. About a prisoner going to the electric chair his crimes--hence, Ride the Lightning. You guys would def dig the lyrics too.
Trapped Under Ice... Escape... Ride the Lightning
Check out the title track for the album, Ride the Lightning. Also, Fight Fire with Fire, Trapped Under Ice, and Escape.
Escape and fight fire with fire are kinda bad tbh
@@epix7178 They're ok but yeah they don't live up to the highs of Trapped Under Ice and some others for me.
@@epix7178 fight fire with fire is great song and a great thrash metal song but yeah trapped under ice and escape are meh
At this point, you might as well react to the whole Ride the Lightning album. Fight Fire With Fire is one of the greatest openings to an album ever.
I've seen Metallica live five times in my life, and i just saw them in New Jersey last month. This probably sounds silly and sappy, but that was the first time I ever heard Call of Ktulu live, and I nearly cried. Always has been my favorite instrumental, and I never expected to hear it played live. So much energy and intensity, and it made my whole night. Glad to see you guys appreciated it. Its such a ride!
I get it.
Y’all need to react to Judas Priest, especially “Painkiller”
This song is a classic. It’s a true testament to just how good, these guys were/are as musicians. Cliff Burton is King!!
It’s great to see the music move you guys. That’s awesome 🤘
Orion from Master of Puppets album is another instrumental with some blues influence I’m sure y’all will enjoy. To live is to die is their third instrumental from the Justice for All album that contains a short poem from bassist Cliff burton before his untimely death R.I.P
I love the direction you guysv keep going with the reactions. Seem to really be hitting on the greats! Just a little advice, you guys should watch some of these bands do it live. It hits different when you can see them hitting notes on the instruments as your hearing it. Makes it real. Led Zeppelin, tool, Metallica, etc. Some bands really blow you mind.
Once thing ive noticed with this song is not enough people give Robert Trujillo (their current base player) enough credit. He slays this live, dude is a monster. Also one of Kirk Hammett's best guitar solo's.
So happy you guys have become such big Metallica fans♡
A good instrumental by Metallica. Orion being my Metallica instrumental favorite. If you want a couple Instrumentals to blow you away check out Death Angel - The Ultra-Violence and Metal Church - It's a Secret.
Stolen valor=metallica
Y'all rock. I remember being young, like you, and hearing this. Same reaction.
Sad but True, Battery, Fuel, metallica in concert its amazing
Grow up dude!
I’ve never seen such angry popcorn chewing in my life.
I love your videos, guys!!!
This is a top 10 Metallica track for me.
The 1999 S&M (Symphony & Metallica) version is worth watching - flawless performance, which won a Grammy for best instrumental.
The S&M version is one of my favorite tunes ever. The perfect harmony
@@akapeace8879 same. Epic performance.
I just don’t like the symphony for most of their songs but this is the only one that I liked
@@shmick6079The first 10 minutes of S&M (Ecstasy + Ktulu) should be in the music history books. Still have my S&M cd from my school days 🤘🏼
@@akapeace8879 yeah it’s legendary… and then the transition into Puppets. I love it.
This Metallica journey is so fun! seeing yall react much like I did when I was 10 is so cool.
Awesome, you have to do Ride the Lightning and Trapped under ice from this album, if you want to hear the best guitar work that is . Piut ya seat belt on though .....
Keep melting that Camera! I'm loving your reactions to metal music.
Pantera- walk
Bad ass Glad y’all did this one no one ever does reactions to instrumental!
If you guys are going on a Metallica run you gotta do Battery, but I'm guessing ya'll are college athletes? So do it with plenty of time to recover for the crazy headbanging that song induces. I once strained my neck rocking out so hard to that song.
SLAYER''DEAD SKIN MASK'' yes its time for slayer!
Please REACT to Eminem "My Name Is" or "The Real Slim Shady." The videos/songs are both CLASSIC, FUN Eminem. Each the lead single off his first 2 major label albums.
Killswitch engaged- the end of heartache🔥 official vid please
You won’t be disappointed
This have to listen to Howard such a good metal vocalist lol
Trapped Under Ice.
Trapped Under Ice.
Trapped Under Ice.
Trapped Under Ice.
Trapped Under Ice.
React to TOOL-pneuma, or the pot are good ones
This song plays in my head over and over.
MORE METALLICA! YES! Please do Moth Into Flame next. You guys will love that one.
Stale Metallica
What's even crazier is how young they were when they recorded this. Lars and James were 21 at the time while Kirk and Cliff were a year older at 22.
7:04 I was not expecting that to see that zipped up hoodie mask. Love it!
That signature Cliff Burton bass growl. Awesome.
Love love love your Metallica reactions!! Keep at it!
Really love this song and really love that hoodie yellow black with the face on it that hard as s*** got to get me something like that great reaction see you on the next one peace
One of their more recent songs, Mama Said, actually made me tear up first time I heard it. It’s different from a lot of their music (I love it all), amazing lyrics.
AWW DAMN I REALLY WISH YALL WOULD DO A RE-DO ON THIS SOPNG. THE SAN FRANSCISCO SYNPHONY AND METALICA PLAYED A CONCERT TOGETHER AND THIS SONG WAS X10 AS AMAZING THEN. its on youtube (just realized caps) oh well lol
I really enjoy watching you guys enjoy Metallica! This is a great intro to metal, but there is a whole world of awesome out there. I hope you keep exploring the genre! As always great video! You need to hear Dyer's Eve off the And Justice for al album.
I absolutely love the respect you men are showing this band. Diving into lyrics and albums….it’s a beautiful thing. Let’s get it!! I’m an old school punk rocker and would love to see some old Bad Brains reactions though….I believe you’re all ready for that shit!!💪💪💪
hahahhaa dudes I just busted out laughing when you came back with the monster-faced hoodie!!!!
This was by far the best reaction video yet. cool guyz
The Day That Never Comes and Disposable Heroes...both must listens.
You guys have to check out the version of this song they do with the San Francisco Symphony from their album S&M from 1999. It will blow you away. You guys should do a reaction video to that one
