What's amazing about Shohei is, this isn't his peak performance yet. He is the kind of guy who can always find things to improve in both his pitching and hitting. We'll see more of his awesomeness for several more years to come. Hang on tight, Americans.
I can't wait to see the absolutely staggeringly large contract he gets next year... I'm thinking like 10+ years 600 million+ Probably not Ronaldo/Messi yearly salary numbers but going to be up there for largest contracts of all time.
Trout makes 35m/year and Scherzer 43m/year, then 10year/$600m would be only the low-ball starting bids from teams and not Ohtani's agent because $750-800 is closer to his market value.
60-year-old here. Angel fan. Not just my favorite MLB player in history but maybe my favorite pro athlete ever up there with Walter Payton. What can you say? I live close to Angel Stadium. my daughter saw his translator at a local grocery store and was awed by him alone. He was humble before his first pitch in the MLB. What a fantastic man. Since his first swing, I have been amazed.
What's also crazy is that Shohei sleeps a total of 12 hours a day (10 at night and 2hr nap). That leaves him 12 hours for film, training, and practice for what's essentially two sports and doesn't include eating and personal hygiene. Imagine the planning, dedication, and consistency it takes to be the world's best hitter and one of the best pitchers.
Apparently that wasn't good enough for Ohtani to win the MVP last season. Of course these same talking heads said if Ohtani had won back-to-back MVP's, then we might as well give it to him every year. Yes that is correct, he should win the MVP every year because he's a top 5 hitter AND top 5 pitcher at the major league level. We won't see this again in our lifetimes and maybe not for our kids' lifetimes.
I’ve seen jeter play, Griffey in the back end of his career, trout in his prime, manny Ramirez, David Ortiz , Vladimir Guerrero sr, Albert pujols in his prime…what ohtani is doing and how he plays I’ve never felt anything like it…this guy single handle saved the MLB
his swing is special no kick what so ever and still generate so much power in terms of power alone he hit longer homeruns then judge in bp i saw once in all star last year shohei was hitting out of the park
In a segment MLB Network did earlier this year with Aaron Judge and Harold Reynolds, Judge talked about setting his hands during his initial stance so that they can "see the pitcher". I notice that in clips taken from the CF camera angle in this video Ohtani does the same thing. Judge explained that position enables to have a quicker, shorter path to the ball, thereby making it easier to handle plus velocity.
Spent the last week in Waikiki from Sydney and the best times had were watching live telecasts of games from the hotel room when he smashed his 19th to 22nd HRs. I can go to the beach anytime but seeing Shohei do Ohtani things live is very rare indeed.
The comparison between Freeman and Ohtani is really interesting. Freeman seems to have an abbreviated follow through, whereas Ohtani’s follow through is completely extended all the way to his back. Yet, the result is the same… the ball goes way into the crowd. What would be the pros and cons of each these follow throughs? Both players are a joy to watch.
My two cents on the matter is that it's simply a bio mechanical difference. Neither of their follow throughs affect the amount of power being generated as all the power of the swing is generated prior to being imparted onto the ball. More than likely the it feels more comfortable for Freeman to shorten his follow through while Ohtani likes to take a big hack and just let the energy carry the bat head. I don't know if there would be an overstated advantage to either, just that one is more comfortable to that person.
Don't forget Ohtani has freak level physical elasticity. Plus, he is getting bigger every season. Combine them and you get high exit velocity on every homerun he hits.
People love bringing up other hitters injuries in an attempt to take away Ohtani's streak but it's actually a compliment that they are too dumb to realize. He's doing twice as much without injuries. While they're getting injured doing half as much.
in 2023, Aaron Judge makes $40 Million MLB salary. Shohei makes $40 million in endorsements alone. Shohei entered MLB early and gave up millions to showcase his talents. Offering the most money will not be the deciding factor as a free agent. It will be about Shohei and the best opportunity to make his legacy as an all time GOAT.
Babe Ruth started his major league career as a pitcher before moving to the outfield. Only 14 of his 714 career home runs were hit as a pitcher, however. How many has Shohei hit while pitching?
While non- pitchers are taking constant hitting practice between games, Ohtani has to be on a pitchers training schedule. His only batting practice is pre-game warm up.
This video is about, doing a hip flexor stretch in order to, get back to basic hitting. Leg kick or no leg kick it is, about the hip rotation. A small and kick leg kick can become, part of a to a hip rotation but, back hip rotation is the video's main point.
Ohtani likes sweets, but he cooks meals for baseball not for enjoying eating. He practice more than average time, Sohei exercises for strong muscle for basketball. He sleeps more than ten hours everyday. They are all he does only for his love for baseball. He just enjoy playing baseball. I just watch enjoy Angels with appreciation💐😊
He swings the bat like he's doing a hammer throw. I think his balance is his secret. He controls his body momentum through the swing. His feet and core muscles are overpowered. Ohtani swings like a helicopter.
The freedom in his swing is the same as Judge. They’re monsters playing with men. All they need to do is be quick to the ball and keep the ball in the air. A fly ball for a normal 5’10” human is a 450 foot Bomb for them….

nah, Barry Bonds is the standard bearer for POWER LH picture perfect swing. I get the showcasing contemporary current players but Freddie Freeman? Freeman is the softest 30 home run guy I've ever witness. Ohtani is locked in though but he eventually stalls out as a .250-.260 which is pretty top tier for LH power hitting. Still Ohtani is a shoo in for MVP every season he isn't hurt.
He was just talking about the best lefties in today's game. But I agree The Kid had one of the best swings of all time, and would be cool to see him and Shohei side-by-side.
I only have one suggestion for you man, save your words and don’t focus on how Ohtani swings……now you can say anything you want, because the guy is on fire…..why did you keep your mouth shut, when he started his first season in MLB, nobody even mentioned that he would need sometimes to readjust himself into a new baseball style….now that he has proven to be a superstar, he has a perfect swing, perhaps you are one of those idiots tv broadcasters that use to say…..whenever a hitter hits a homer….they said “the pitcher made a mistake” I say, no way, pitchers in MLB don’t make mistakes……you just keep in mind that…..pitchers are trained to dominate the hitters and hitters are trained to hit the ball……the rest is only assumption.

An ace pitcher is competing for a triple crown, it can only happen in the Ohtani era by a Superman player

No leg kick necessary for a giant. You only need to generate power if you’re a human.
If Ohtani was a golfer, he'd probably be the best golfer in the world with 400+ yard drives.
When he was a student, he was once told that he could become a world champion in swimming.
Actually, he was bad at golf. There's a video about he played golf in Japan.

No leg kick or stride from the lower half of body. He just turns on it and hits 450 ft. bombs to the opposite field over and over and over.
