This was the greatest offensive performance in a single game ever. It has some competition, such as the game in may of 2012 where Josh Hamilton of the Rangers went 5-5 with 4 HR and 8 RBI and hit a double for 18 total bases.
However, that was a meaningless game for Josh and the Rangers in mid may. Ohtani was doing this in a game that clinched his team a playoff spot. He did this 10 RBI game with 2 steals and got to 51 steals and HR's for the season with it.
Given the pressure, and given the significance of the game to his team, this was the greatest single game performance .

  • @sianspherica
    @sianspherica Месяц назад +35

Usually this kind of over the top hyperbole with "best game ever" etc annoys me but what Shohei pulled off is legitimately insane.
It's one thing for Ohtani to have a 50/50 season. It's quite another if he manages to do it by hitting say 1 HR in a game to get to 50 HR's and perhaps a SB in another game to get to 50 SB.
Instead he went 6/6 with 3 HR and 2SB's and he also hit a double that came very close to being a HR. He nearly hit 4 homers, he also nearly hit for the cycle, he came close to getting a triple one play.
No player in baseball history has ever hit 3HR and gotten 2SB in one game before.
And he did it on the game that he became the first player in baseball history to reach 50/50
All of that is insane on its own but he also broke the Dodgers single game RBI record in the game with 10 RBI's!
And he also broke Shawn Green's all time Dodgers single season HR record yesterday with his 50th.
To call it a "record setting day" for him is a hilarious understatement.
He didn't just break records, he obliterated them in unbelievable fashion.

The biggest part of Baseball is power and speed to be great, rather it's a power pitcher that throws a 100 mph slider or a batter that hits homeruns and can run and steal bases, Ohtani can do both of that better than anyone, that's why he's the Goat 🐐

Forget all the little records, categories he put in place .. the one that impresses me the most is he hit a DODGERS franchise record in home runs .. and in his first season. Oh and his bread and butter isn't really considered being a "hitter". Crazy. The lengthy history of the Dodgers club is storied way before he was even born but he just gets signed and takes the HR record with ease.

“When he’s healthy,” when talking about his pitching status. I don’t think we really stop to think what he just said. If you take a moment to ponder on that statement, it just makes Ohtani that much more unbelievable. How else can you describe him not pitching when he’s clearly a superhuman? I think they should just say he decided not to pitch this year to be spend more time with his dog. 😂 incredible

Everyone is forgetting. He missed adding a cycle to that day by about 2 strides. Then went 3 for 4 the next day with maybe the craziest bomb he’s hit this yr-it was at his shoulders and another SB. Then the next day he was 1 for 2 with 2 BB’s and another stolen base. Then today(Sunday) he went 4-5 with 2 more SB’s a bomb in the bottom of the 9th to tie the game and set up Mookie to walk it off with a bomb.
I think he’s 14 for his last 16 with 5 bombs 4SB’s 15RBI. His obp the last 17 games is over .500. It’s too bad our staff is once again in shambles. But we’ve had some decent progress from Walker. Gonsolin will be back. And JFlahr and Yoshi are a great top 2. We’ll see. Just glad Sho will get some post season experience, and who knows? Maybe the offense just goes ahead and averages 10 a game in the post season. They might have to.

Shohei definitely the best player of this generation. I have to disagree with the comment from Olney about the greatest record in sports. To me, 56 game hitting streak will always be the greatest record. Call it slight bias as a Yankee fan. In the current game of 5 strong from a starter, an opener, and then every reliever throwing 99+ with filthy movement, I do not see another player getting close to that 56 game hitting streak. The sports media starts getting antsy when a player gets to 20-25, and those aren't even halfway there. All that said, keep up the majestic career, Shohei Ohtani!

I think all-time rankings come after the completion of a career - gotta respect the players who did it year in and year out for a decade+.. but he’s all-time *special* already.. almost like a fictional character.. if you didn’t see it with your own eyes, you might not believe it.. he’s got the whole sport on his shoulders..
