DUDE SAME. I thought I was the only one cuz everywhere I say this, bunch of ps fanbois gang up on me even after I emphasize that I own both and prefer the dualsense for other games. The dpad being squishy and mushy is trash for fighting games and the symmetrical stick can fek up my quarter circles. Even experienced the hand pains until I got xbsx controller. Dualsense is for laid-back casual gaming and it's arguably the best for that use case.
I've been a stick player for every fighting game I've played so far (started as a Tekken player). I'm trying to keep on stick for MK but it's proving too awkward with how often I have to stretch with my right hand for Kameo, Block, Stance Switch, Fatal Blow, etc. I find quarter circles work fine for D,F and D,B motions, however. I don't like membrane buttons and d pads on console controllers, so I'm thinking of a getting an all mechanical button modded PS5 controller from Battle Beaver or something. For me, the reason I haven't maybe considered leverless for MK is that the lever isn't a problem, but the button spread rather. Great video, bro!
I think a mechanical button dpad controller is ideal for MK but they're very expensive to buy. I hate back forward and down up inputs specifically on the ps4 pad I use. It's way easier on my hitbox but like you say the block and kameo button now is a lot to get used to on a stick layout.

Hey, just putting this out there in response to what was said about MK's tap direction and then hit a button for command special moves. You don't need to separately tap the direction and hit a button, no sir! For example: ⬇➡+🔳 does not mean you need to tap down, then tap forward + 🔳 You can input this command the exact same way as you would in Street Fighter with one, smooth motion. The ↘ input will just be ignored. ⬇↘➡+🔳 It will read only the inputs it needs. There is absolutely no need to explore alternative controls to enable Street Fighter-like commands for most of the moves in the game.
I use a JFA snackbox micro xl and just changed the RT, RB, LT, and LB buttons to a configuration where I could block more easily than the normal RT button. I do think playing with a pad on MK1 is probably better since all the pros play pad, but I just prefer how playing on a hitbox controller feels for all fighting games or 2D scrollers. I also own an Elite Series 2 controller with the circular Dpad and for Xbox that is probably the best controller, but still I prefer my Snackbox for the fun factor and comfort. I'm an intermediate pianist so its just the best option for me.
Its the best controller I have owned and I owned a Sega Saturn back in the day. With that said, I still have to take mine apart occassionally to use contact spray on the RB button, because it will sometimes not register each click right after a certain amount of use.
