Just rewatched The Shining today. What's kinda special about Duvall's performance was that by "conventional" acting standards she is over acting (especially during the first half of the film) but at the same time somehow , for the Shinning as a movie and for her character it works so perfectly.
Elephant Cat Especially by Kubrick himself. He essentially spent the entire production negging Shelly Duvall. Not because he didn’t think she was a good actress, but to make her so tense and upset that her reactions of desperation and hysteria would be unsettlingly natural. Because they were.
I'm still adjusting to the new Jordan Peele, when I seen the thumbnail along with the title I thought this was a comedy skit. Especially with the outfit in that pose.
1:58 he makes a good point here. I never feel too scared when scary things happen in places that look really scary and unfamiliar, like in the woods or moving into a new dingy house. It feels almost too obvious, and I think, “simple, I’ll just avoid going to creepy places.” When the horrors right in your comfort zone, I find it much scarier (nothing against those who like scary locations tho)
@@madrigalpencilwood Oh, and how he caresses his chin with the tip of his index finger. He seems to be saying "I'm doing alright, folks. This is what being successful looks like, y'all. Cheelax and praise the Peeleness because I'm here to staaaaaaaaaay!"

In "See No Evil," Jacob Goodnight (played by WWE's Kane) killed one of his victims by shoving her cell phone down her throat. Fun fact: the actress who played that victim was Rachael Taylor, who went on to play Trish Walker in "Jessica Jones"

Shelley Duvall was pretty much constantly psychologically abused during filming until she was in hysteria herself to best play her character. Ngl, I doubt that'd fly around 2019.
Kubrick was relentless; he's a reason cited for the Cruise/ Kidman divorce-relentless pushing and retake after retake. You cannot deny the effect conveyed in the film though, it's staggeringly real and deeply affecting
After being seen wearing a scarf with the same colors as Freddy, and going on to wear a very similar outfit that Jack Torrence wore, we're going to sit here and act like J Peele isn't rocking Mrs. Voorhees iconic sweater??? The man is an icon.
I was thinking it was similar to the sweater in the original Funny Games (with Us being a home invasion movie), but yeah, seeing the Vorhees connection.
Us was excellent, reminded me a bit of Hitchcock in a lot of places. He's a better visual director than I expected (not surprised by his writing skills after Key and Peele).
One of the many people who weren't expecting the horror side of Jordan Peele, but really warming up to it! He may very well become my favorite name in horror. I feel like this video really demonstrated his mentality going into "Us".
I am so on board with the Shelley Duval shoutout. Everyone is always obsessed with Nicholson in that movie, but he never really frightened me maybe because I always saw him as crazy from the get go. Duval’s performance for me, was what stood my hairs on end. Her complete horror as she’s trying to get away from her husband is just spot on. I think there’s a reason why they always show her terror stricken face while she’s grabbing the knife and the axe shatters the door.
I love the Demon Knight shoutout. One of the best stupid horror movies ever made. It's not like a regular B-movie. There's cool sets, an easy to follow plot, genuine scares, and it still retains the charm of a Tales From The Crypt episode stretched into a full movie. Plus it has A-list actors. Everyone should watch it.

I hope Jordan Peele does not becoming like another M. Night Shyamalan. Peele first two movies "Get Out" and "Us" set the bar so high that his future movies made not live up to that standard. With that say great job and keep up the great work JP.
You can tell he loves The Shining. His fashion lately seems inspired by Jack. He’d be a great choice for directing The Shining prequel series that has been in the works.

Jordan Peele is the last person I expected to be into horror, I far I have seen from his work, he is comedic actor.
