If you click sandbox on the main menu and pick your starting culture when get on the map you will spawn in that factions region

Even though it honestly does look interesting, it feels like a game that I will suck at lol. I love the concept but I feel like I'll get so bogged down in the village building I'll fall behind on the army aspect of vice versa

Villages are attached to the main cities. Why is that so bad?

because they aren't individual fiefs now, which means they can't be given out to lower lords. Not only was it a good start for the player to be given a village as a first fief upon joining a faction (helps you get used to things like improvements and building up a settlements wealth), but they where also great for handing out (if you had your own nation) to smaller lords who joined you. Plus taking them away just means less over all fiefs available, so you can easily end up with nobles without any territory at all, which is just weird ... how are they maintaining armies with no land?
