I'm what some people might consider old, and the last time I used a rifle was around 2006 I think. I enjoy watching your channel and Edge Of The Outback for a few reasons.
One, you don't glamourise, or sensationalise your profession.
Two, you are both very accurate riflemen/shooters.
Three, you respect and appreciate the environment you work in.
Four, you are both passionate about reducing the feral animal population in Australia, which is admirable. I've been the same from a young age.
And finally, you're entertaining and educational.
I'll be living out bush again in the near future and will be looking into getting a license so that I can maybe work with Nat Parks or private landholders up in Far North Queensland. You and Nathan kind of inspired me but my issue will be a budget. I know I don't need a high-end setup to get started but wow, you two blokes have some nice kit.
Anyway. I meant to just comment about the 223 at the 2:00 mark. That is such a beautiful piece of work. I'm a bit of a sucker for a rifle that looks like what I grew up with in the 70s and 80s, only that is so much more refined than what I had.
Wow Brad, really nice to get positive feedback and hear stories from viewers like yourself mate. Thankyou. I wish all the comments were as nice as yours. 👊
@@RJMHuntingAustralia Thank you for the content, mate. Oh, and hey. I wouldn't comment if I didn't like what you post. That's a game for unfulfilled basement dwellers.
Spot on, Brad! That's how I feel too :)
Well said, Brad, including about the more classic field rifle style.
I will second that Brad, my two go to Oz hunting channels are RJM and Edge of the Outback.
OMG the .223 on the hare’s is just carnage … glorious sight to behold the explosion is just awesome …
Lol. Thermal definitely provides a detailed account of the damage. 👌
I love your work mate, I just can't get enough of your clinical dispatchment of the feral pests you take down. truly a very talented marksman.
Much appreciated buddy 👊
Great to watch. Great shooting, and heaps of fun doing what you love doing. The farmers must be happy to see you. Keep it up mate!
Thanks for the support mate. 👌
That was great Rod thanks for sharing it. Now I’m waiting for episode two, bring it on mate!
Already into the editing process mate. 👌
Just love your work Rod. Keep it up cobber. Looking forward part two mate.🤠
Cheers Daryl. Much appreciated 👊
The best vermin control/hunting channel on RUclips. Great work Rod. Keep ‘em coming please mate 👍😊
Much appreciated Andy. Thanks mate. 👊
amazin, in 1957 dad bought me a 410 hammer cogswell and Harrison, 28 inch barrell, for a year i had to walk with it broken and unloaded whilst i learned gun safety, still have that fold up poachers gun
Very cool mate.
Nothing more important than gun safety. 👌
Can’t wait ‘til this tech becomes as common as smartphones have.
Me too mate. A the pace thermal tech is advancing, it won't take long. 👊
5:56 send this to ghost busters, we can see the rabbit going to rabbit heaven 😂
Nice work Rod. Lots of hares about
Always a few down there mate
Great video mate really enjoyed it can't wait for part 2
Glad you enjoyed it mate. Thanks 👊
that rico has crazy detail mate
loving the videos always a pleasure to watch
Made for a pretty cool trip. 😎
From Scotland great shooting and another excellent video. Looking forward to Part 2 on these foxes
Thanks mate. Glad you enjoyed it 👊
new merch from Rod, custom scope covers are nuts. im sure Ben will have had a laugh. yes, the growth this summer has made it a chore to get into the foxes where i'm from too. though, there's plenty around.
Pre loved scope covers.
Irresistible 🤣
Top stuff as always Rod. I'm sure the land owner will be happy with your efforts. Sounds like you had a good time.
Had a blast mate, pardon the pun. 👌
@@RJMHuntingAustralia All good Rod, look forward to part two.
That RS75 is everything I would want in NV. What a piece of equipment that is. Nice work on the varmints, the rabbit supply looks to be endless.
I have never really loved my 17 HMR. Wind just affects the tiny bullets so badly and we always have wind. Its frustrating because I want it to work every day like it does on a calm day.
Yep, the 17hmr can be very challenging in the wind. Super fun and economical little calibre to shoot though
Beautiful! The last shot of that trip with the air rifle splattered the hare all the way on the building. Crazy air rifle.
Hits hard for a little 18g pellet. 👍
@RJMHuntingAustralia Yes sir it's does
Great video mate
Cant wait for part 2
Much appreciated Simon 👊
Bloody awesome mate!
Ho Lee Chit that was good shooting. I’ll be up to seeing the next adventure of your hunt. I like when you pair up with your mate best . The two of you are perfect together.
Thanks mate. Should be up in a week or so 👌
Video enjoyed thoroughly and my wife even commented on the accent! She has a brother who lives in Adelaide... Love the music and peaceful rural driving segments too. Yep... Nice gear, that .223! As a country lad, my only regret is not being there to take part myself! Anyway; great job and professionally presented video...
Much appreciated mate.
Thankyou 👊
Look forward to part 2 great work on the vermin..
Thankyou champion 👊
Nice shooting. Plenty to shoot at on that property. Thanks for sharing your epic trip.
My pleasure mate. Thanks
NICE!! looking forward to part two
Cheers mate
thanks for the video, luv the slo-mo
The 223 hits definitely tickles them up. 👌
Brilliant ! Getting the job done 👍🏼🏴
Much appreciated John 👊

Good stuff as usual. I love how you keep it real.
Thanks Terry. It's the only way mate 👍
Wow cracking video Rodney, some very impressive shooting, I looked up that RS75, up here in dear old England £12999,, can't wait for the next one 😎
Expensive bit of kit for sure mate. 👌
10:56 That is a goddamned great big dog.
Farmers working dog mate 👌
G'day mate ✌🏻👍🏻
A little bit of that went down. 👊
Nice work. More rabbits than I get in several hunting seasons.
Cheers mate. 👌
With all those rabbits and hares of course the foxes will be thick also. Maybe he should get a carpet python or two😊
I very much doubt that would help Chris.
Shooting them is by far the most effective control method.
Great shooting as usual.
Thanks champ 👊
1:38 made my day, well done sir
Thanks champion
Ahh, Splatter Bunnie's, great shooting mate, can't wait for part two cleaning up them fox's Cheers
Cheers bud 👊
Cute Vizsla, best dogs ever!! Bet you can’t wait to get him/her out for a hunt, looking forward to part 2!!
Thanks mate. She is actually a retriever X poodle. Smart girl. She loves coming out with me.
Sorry mate, looked like a Vizsla from a distance, I might have to get my eyes checked!! 👍
Haha. All good mate. 😅
I’m from south coast nsw and just got back from a week long hunting trip from hunter valley to Pilliga and I can’t believe how many ferals are up there , rabbits fox pig and deer in abundance and Pilliga loaded with goat , so different to where I live where , you can spend 100s of hrs hunting without seeing anything to shoot , you hunters up that way have it so good , I got more kills in one day up there then last 2 years at home
I'm not from up there mate.
SW Sydney.
I know what you mean though.
On a note of difference. One thing i didn't realise is that Dingo's are actually not regarded as indigenous in Oz. Not too old to learn stuff, great channel mate as always. keep the powder dry
Thanks champion 👊
Another great video
Thanks Richard 👊
I loved the dog looking out the window, haha.
She wasn't happy when she got booted out. Can't take her to places using 1080. Not worth the risk.
@@RJMHuntingAustralia absolutely! That stuff doesn't give dogs a second chance, especially when baited instead of pest ejectors.
Awesome stuff mate keep it up
Thanks for that Mick 👊
Nice shooting Rodney, the RS75 is a big unit but hopefully its a sign of what's to come! My XG thermion did that too, a mix of foil and black gaffa tape meant I always had a target, not sure what was happening 🍻
Thanks for the heads up mate. 👌
That Ben's a good bloke!
Nice work - good example to us amateurs. Thanks.
Cheers mate. Always a pleasure to work with Ben
@@RJMHuntingAustraliaHe and Steve have been good to me too.
Not 23k good, but good all the same!

Fantastic brother!!
Thanks James. 👊
😂😂 OMG bits of rabbit flying everywhere
Clean ethical kills. 🤦♂️👌
Second shot was awesome mate great vid . I'm from Hamilton Ontario Canada
You're welcome mate 👌
cant wait to get back up the farm and see what my new savage 22.250 will do. No IR or night sight, but got a good spotlight. wish me luck! LOL
All the best mate. 💥💥💥
One more comment. A memory from around 1987/8
I was down at Griffith, visiting my sister when she was living with a bloke whose family had a property out East of Yenda, out near Binya on the edge of the dry country, or for the unknowing, where the irrigation area ends. We were sitting out the back of the house and he pointed up the rise about 500 metres down the paddock to an old mallee tree, and then said, "Hang on...", went inside, and brought out a rifle scope. It was about 2 in the afternoon, and around that tree, you could see a heap of warren entrances, and maybe fifty or more hares/rabbits/bunnies.
He (I found out later) was a mad rum drinker, and when he got on the rum, he'd shoot the rabbits on the hill. But he never shot enough that they abandoned the warrens. After all, it was right on the edge of the irrigation zone, so they had access to greens on their doorstep. He'd just wander up and collect the dead and process them after he'd had his fun.
Carefree in the old days mate. Now it's a dry camp when I'm away shooting. Worked way too hard to risk losing everything.
@@RJMHuntingAustralia Oh, this bloke was a piece of work. I wouldn't have mentioned him other than the size of the warren. I only visited once. My sister left him a while later for reasons not needed to be discussed here. I've always been an 'alcohol and death machines don't mix'. And I'm talking anything, car, chainsaws, grinders, rifles, winches, jacks etc.
Well done! 223 vs rabbits are quite the mismatch. I like mismatches!!
Other than the cost. So do I 👊
It looks great, especially digital magnification. But I guess at 23k so it should 😶. Nice shooting as usual mate 👌
Thanks Nath. 👊
10:55 I know I'm comment-flooding but every time I see one of those gas air rifles, I think back to when I had an old lever-pump one. But hey, that was near fifty years ago I suppose. The wonders of modern teckernology, hey? :)
They've come a long way since the old BB rifles
Nice one Grubba
Thanks
You missed a bear on the left near the end of the video 😁 the clarity of that thermal was fantastic
Haha. He was keen as to jump on that hare after it got popped
Good on ya knock. Them on the head. Looks like too much fun
Sure is buddy. 👊
8:10 I'm a bit of a knife nerd, and by extension, have also collected a few torches. One of my favourites, partly due to it's price, but mostly because of its spot-throw, is the Speras T1. Maximum 1200 lumen with a claimed throw of 1300m. I've tested it against low-reflection things like high-voltage power line towers and can light up a tower 900m away. I shoneit down a road out front of the property and it was lighting up 'end of road' signs a kilometre away. It has three settings, 1200/400/100/2, with respective runtimes of 4/5/20 and 285 hours, as well as a strobe function. At 400 lumen it will throw about 750m. I know that a certain knife shop in Brisbane sells them, but I'm not here to inadvertently spam. Just thought you might like to check it out. I believe they can be mounted on a rifle..? EDIT: I think you can buy colour filters for them too.
The key feature for me is size and weight. Some nights I'm holding it up for 6 hours or more.
@@RJMHuntingAustralia 376 gms when loaded with the batteries. Narrow battery body but a big head. It's roughly 30cm long. It's okay for me because I'm hand-holding. I had a nice small Thrunite that had a throw almost as long. It was designed to piggyback scopes. Very light but very powerful. But, someone decided they needed it more than me and it disappeared.
Lots of carnage there. Can't help but laugh when bits fly in the air
Hard not to giggle but it's definitely ethical culling. 👌
Old Fluffy at the Managers window was onto you mate :)
You mean the dog in the cage or in the car?
@@RJMHuntingAustralia it looked like it was inside the house looking out the window when you were using the air rifle near his house. Great videos. New to the page.
Thanks mate.
Pretty sure it was in a dog crate. He was keen to see what I was up to. 😅
Bloody awesome mate fantastic shootin there massive thumbs up sniper
Cheers Terry, it's a skill set that's definitely taken a lot of work. 👌
@@RJMHuntingAustralia totally agree with ya there mate
I’m nowhere in your league mate, I’ve just got a NightTech thermal spotter, and a PARD 008 on a very nice Browning A bolt, and shoot feral’s on my little property, in southeast Aussie, and on the next door’s property, yes, their happy for me to do so.
I have just purchased a PARD 007, so I can fit it on my 17HMR, and 22 air rifle.
Really like the content of the video, so I have subscribed 👍🏻
Nothing at all wrong with the gear you're running mate. As long as it helps get the job done.
Thanks for the sub. 👊
@@RJMHuntingAustralia
Pleasure matey.
Damn the image on that iray looks good 👌👌
1280 core definitely has merit. 👊
@@RJMHuntingAustralia I've got the thermion2 lrf myself and the difference in detail on the fox at 200 is massive 👍 I'll add it to the wish list 🤣🤣
The Thermion2 gets the job done mate.
Great video Rod. 👌 Looking forward to the next one 👍
I know RUclips doesn't do thermals justice so what is your opinion of the picture quality of the infaray over the thermion? Is it worth all the extra coin?
It definitely has better target detail, the overall image is nice and the zoom is much clearer than the thermion but I don't know if that really equates to 15k extra in cost.
Holly shit that does explode the hares
Definitely ethical 😉
2:55 The RS75 is impressive already! But hey, at that price it would want to be impressive.
Totally agree mate. Definitely a single mans scope
And Ben never touches his 25k scope again, congratulations you have a spiffy new scope🤭
Hahaa.
Unfortunately it didn't work out that way. 😕 😅
I don't know how to hire one of you guys or how much you are paid, but that air rifle is an awesome bit of tech, really great.
Thanks mate. Where are u based?
You can contact me through my email rjmferalanimalmanagement@gmail.com
A$23k?!?! Holy Moses.
For that much, does it also solve world hunger?
I know right.
Hopefully the price on these comes down once the other brands start making them. 🤞
That was awesome mate, thoroughly enjoyed that!!!
Gotta ask, is there 23k worth of difference between that scope and a much more affordable one?
The extra cost is totally image based Matt.
Many of us have shot plenty of ferals using much cheaper gear.
I didn’t realise that hares were considered to be a feral pest species in Aus. Here in Ireland, shooting hares is an offence, but hunting them with hounds is not.
Introduced species in Aus John.
The odd one here and there isn't an issue. Areas with high densities cop some damage though.
Commenting as I watch. Could that issue with the Thermion2 be a thermal sensor fault? I'm thinking with my electronics hat on. Could it be that the centre part of the sensor isn't 'seeing' differences finely enough but the edges still are? Some sort of electronic 'wear and tear' thing?
Definitely a possibility Brad, will be chasing Pulsar up for some feedback.
@@RJMHuntingAustralia love the vids. Ill bet both your dots and the background were of a very similar material (reflective nature and temperature) this would show the camera the same temperature reading to convert to a visible image. Contrasting surface textures for your next targets should be an easy fix. I cant work out why it would become visible when angling the camera away ??? (Lens angle/refraction ???) It would be great to hear an explanation in the next vid. 👍
Will let you know if I find out anything mate. 👊
@@RJMHuntingAustralia Cheers, mate. I am curious. it was a weird anomaly. Hopefully not damage to the lens.
Beautiful country where you are shooting there.
It certainly is mate.
Interesting at 5.30m.
When you shot the rabbit another took off to the right and it looked a flock of birds where flushed out of the grass , or was I seeing things ?
Just had a look. @ 5.30m in the video that was rabbit fur flying off in the wind after the impact Max
Mate I had to laugh at the scope protection. Good try on getting Ben to let you keep it. Could you tell me what tripod you are using on the Sako? I have looked at your other vids and can't find anything on it.
It's a Bexin ST424C with a Sirui K30x ball head.
Tripod is very similar to the Innorel RT90C
So, my first question would be, does Ben accept kidney’s as deposits on a 23K thermal ?
Great video, Cheers
NO!!!!
I've tried many times.
Thanks for the view mate. 👌
Great video as usual. What type of Tripod and Ball Head are you using? Where can I get one?
Running a Bexin ST424C. Similar to an Innorel RT90C and the ballhead is a Sirui K30x. The leofoto ones are good too
Nice going chap, been looking with envy at the clarity of that footage compared to my pulsar trail...its way up there. Does that pard have onboard recording...??? Im chasing pigs with my .30 cal FX when we finially get dry season up here in Weipa. Cheers
Thanks mate.
The footage and audio from the Pard is straight from the unit.
Also has ballistic correction. Perfect little scope for an air rifle in my opinion. 👌
Cheers will look into it...gd vids too.👍👍👍

I reckon a drone with thermal would make a killer package
It's on my wish list.
I'm gonna need a bigger truck
Love your hunting videos mate can you tell me how far you can see and identify a fox with the jp 303 light on red mode they tell me foxes can't see red lights cheers jamie
Eye shine out to 800m on a good night. Identifying is all dependent on the weather, terrain, length of foliage etc
What ammo are u using on these foxes witz your .223 that they explode like this? Greetz from germany
Hi mate.
I'm running factory ADI World class with 55gr Sierra Blitz Kings @3100 fps
When you said "$23k" for the sight I nearly crapped myself, but then I thought about. I remember spending $8k on a scope back in the early 90s, so it'd be not that much different when you look at inflation etcetera.
What cost you 8k in the 90's mate?
It's an arguable point (I don't trust Google and Inflation!) but 8k bucks in the 90s is probably worth at least 5-6 times now. Let's call it 40k plus and compare...
@@RJMHuntingAustralia a big old Leupold bastard. From memory it was 5-25x or something like that. It was on a MacMillan Tac .50 which I only had for about 18 months. Had to buy the gun from the US (no internet shopping back then - it was all catalogues) and the scope came from Europe for some reason I can't remember, even though they're made in the US. Everything seemed to cost twice as much as the 'book' price. Imports, freight and exchange rates I'm guessing.
At the time I thought it was as cool as hell, but looking back I think I might been a bit of a dick. I was young and dumb and had the money to burn, or so I thought.
Damn thing looked like a WW2 air raid siren.
That's gold. Only live once mate. Gotta make the most of it. 👌
AT 6:00 min, How often do you see the spirit of an animal run off after you take it out ?? have you noticed it ? JUST wondering..
I noticed the dust cloud from the projectile passing through and hitting the ground
Nice job of pest control.
Thanks mate 👍
Re:- The stubble height [ which SUCKS!!!! ] why not a thermal drone? or did you not have one with you?
Thermal drones can't be flown legally at night without a CASA permit.
I don't have the permit nor can I afford a thermal drone. 😪
@@RJMHuntingAustralia I don't know much about drones and I thought you could use the ones on your site. Can you buy them in Australia?
Certainly can. Quite expensive though. A half decent one starts at about 8k
Great vid Rod, but 23k for a scope?, lets hope the Chinese can make a decent knock off soon, and how good is the NSW country side, Queensland is scrub and more scrub.
Love heading out west, it's magic. The other manufacturers will follow suit soon enough and the prices will drop accordingly. 👊

@@RJMHuntingAustralia true mate.
Assistindo a este vídeo percebi algo diferente no minuto 6 do vídeo! Uma sobra se move mas não tem nada que indique que seja de uma outra raposa! Muito estranho! Alguem te alguma ideia do que seja?
The shadow you saw was the cold dirt that splashed up from the bullet passing through the animal and hitting the ground. The wind was blowing right to left which made it look strange
Did you angle thermal target at bout 15 degrees
Yes mate. Always do
Sometimes I change colour palate...
Tried it all mate. The 2 other thermals I had picked it up fine. 🤷♂️
Woudn't the foxes help control the hare population?
Not well enough mate. Young lambs are easier prey unfortunately
I wonder mate, wat the true color version would look like 🤔
