    Don't stress all the negative comments,I'm from West Virginia and all the old timers got wood burners for heat around hear ,but yeah I'd say forget them instructions and get a damper control on the pipe a foot or so above the stove n just tinker with it until you get it to where you like it it'll definitely save you from burnin' up yer wood to fast and put out more heat fer y'all,man y'all's videos are great and very detailed and helpful for future ideas that I'll definitely be using when I'll sell my property n get my land up in the hills n get back in the woods,man yer solar system videos probably just saved my family alot of trouble by you showin' the brands n stuff thank ya so much!!!! I believe y'all got the very best off grid videos I've found,yeah we're tired of the bills every month to the power companies!!! Now ya just need a mountain cur dog n yer set!!! Hahaaah jk.-dustin

    Where I live we have to put that telescopic section the other way up so that condensates can't seep out and run down the outside of the pipe.

      That's what I was thinking. I'm trying to connect my stove pipe to the chimney pipe and can't figure how to do it without crimping the chimney pipe.But if I could put it like he did it would be easier but according to the specs I can't do it like he did.

    This video has been so helpful!!! We have chosen the Englander 2000 for our Cabin and considered doing the chimney ourselves. You have convinced me to hire it done!!! Not because I couldn't, but because at 69yrs, I shouldn't. LOL :) I used to do so much of my own building and remodeling, and still do a lot, but I am discovering my limits and want to preserve my body for mountain biking, hiking, hunting, and playing with my best friend/wife & the Grandchildren.
    Thank you so much for all your help as I know how it should be done when hiring it out!

    We used selkirk, best pipe you can get. I've had the stove too hot a couple times and still could touch the pipe. , I highly recommend looking into a spinning or windproof cowl chimney cap, it will save you the headache of backdrafts

    We have fire!!! I have a similar looking flue cap, on my cap the expanded metal goes on the inside of the lip of the very top cap plate, same on the bottom ring. This hides the top and bottom edges of the screen and holds it captive. One thing you may want to do is to get some sheet metal or stiff wire and make a spacer bracket to keep the pipe centered in the roof cutout hole. This will keep the pipe centered when you start to install the metal roof and can't see the clearance anymore. Mount to the underside of the roof deck so it doesn't get in the way. You would hate to get a roof panel installed only to discover the pipe shifted by an inch or so and your clearance has gone to zero.

    Before you get too carried away, you may want to consider moving the stove onto a platform thus raising it off the floor some. That way you can put drawers underneath for kindling, gloves, matches etc.

    Those pipes need to be twisted together harder than you showed on the video. There is a satisfying lock feeling when done right. This is important. Some people put high heat caulk in this joint just to make sure no smoke or gas gets thru. Do this connection right. GOOD LUCK. VINNY 🇺🇸. PS, you didn't install a damper on the first section of pipe above the stove. Controls the burn.

    • @MartinJohnsonOffGridLiving

      What brand pipe are you talking about?

    • @joechase1713
      @joechase1713 4 года назад +2

      A damper is kind of universal, but it may be built into your stove so there is no need to put one in the pipe. Our stove has the damper built in. I am a bit worried that you don't have any flashing (even just temporary) on your chimney, when you get snow on your roof, you will have a big mess with the water coming in. I would suggest Ice & water shield (or maybe aluminum flashing) and silicone caulk for the time being. just nail some temporary 2x4 cleats to the roof so you can safely get on the roof to close up that hole, you can remove the 2x4's when you do the metal roof.

    • @joechase1713
      @joechase1713 4 года назад

      Patrick, you're probably right, I've only bought 2 woodstoves in the last 40 years, they both had dampers, but by todays standard they are probably considered dinosaurs, lol.... anyway I don't replace stoves very often, do you? .... Hahaha

    Good job, I talked to people on installing the pipe and they advised to install it with the male end facing down,,reason if creosote builds up in the pipe with the male in facing toward the ceiling it will seep out of the pipe at the connections with the male end facing down it will just go into the stove where it will be burnt, im no expert by far but thats what I was advised, good video though, thanks

    I like it , those insulated chimney sections look much better than the ones I’m working with now. I wish I opened the box in the store. I’m using Sentinel 6”. Selkirk. But they don’t twist together.. clamp only. I have to call the manufacturer and ask them about the gap I can see up through the chimney, I can see the insulation where the sections meet.. kinda seems like junk, like the chimney sweeper will catch it.

    Looks great. In our area (central Canada) our code requires the top of the chimney to be 4 ft away from the roof line. Challenge is it makes a lot of laterally unsupported chimney. So we use braces for lateral support anchor it to the roof. We get high winds and a lot of snow and it can dislodge the chimney. Might be something to consider for yours too. Looks great though. Glad your doing it right!

    Best family,
    How wonderful to see you build a house with the whole family. Good to see how the children are involved in this project.
    A little note about the wood burning stove. It is not better to remove the stickers from the pipe. If the pipe gets a little warm, the glue might melt a little. This is then very difficult to remove.
    Here in the Netherlands the winter also starts a bit. The temperature is around 4 degrees Celsius.
    good luck with your great project!
    Greetings from Haarlem the Netherlands.

    Fwi to those who know best, read deeper into the comments and see your demand for a stove pipe dampener is obsolete. New stoves are very efficient at burning wood gas and capturing heat. The flame does not just shoot up the pipe, it's forced to go around and through tubes or catalytic type converters. Also the interior double wall is not upside down! Good on this family for being so polite to the know it all keyboard warriors.

    on my friends house his stove has a fresh air for combustion pipe. so as not to burn heated inside air. Seams important for new type sealed construction houses. Some thing to think about to see if you can add it to your stove or if it has that option. some stoves use a triple wall stove pipe with one inside for combustion air from outside. these are the one with the two stage pipe cap.

    Will still have to take the chimney back apart in order to put the roofing on. In the meantime you are going to get moisture inside the cabin from the 2" gap left open for the stove pipe - hopefully it doesn't rain, but condensation on the roof will still cause dripping. Also, did not see a dampener on your stove pipe leaving the stove.

    I was always told that stove pipes should be installed with the tapered (crimped) end down. This way and condensation on the inside of the pipe has a overlapping path all the way to the stove. With the crimp up, condensation could seep between the upper pipe and the crimp and run down the outside of the pipe.

    When I put a wood stove in my shop I build an insulated pipe to go through the roof. Know what I put inside the 2 pipes, pink fiberglass insulation
    it doesn't burn, still there after 25 years. I don't understand pull the paper off, works great, but you have to make him happy.

    2:04 Yep, It' time for that wood stove to be put to good use. Oh Brother. Marty, just a thought: this may sound backward on the stove pipe connections. Female side should be on the bottom so the creosote doesn't run out and down outside of the pipe, and like the snow breaking off the vent pipe there is a sheetmetal wedge between the ridge and the pipe to divert the snow weight. Congrats

    I am surprised the stove pipe isn't triple wall pipe in the house wow. What are you putting on the wall behind the stove? I used to work for a fireplace company and had a wood burning stove installed in our family room. We ha brick and concrete installed on the wall and the floor at that time. I hope that a railing is installed by the stairs next to the fireplace. If someone accidently trips on the stairs more than likely the fireplace could be a target. It's looking like a home with heat and a beautiful JOB all. God bless.

    Your going to burn wood faster with out a flue / fire damper. It will slow the burn down. you will use less wood that way. Just trying to help.

      Thanks. Maybe we will try it later but like I said in other comment replies the instructions explicitly said, “DO NOT install a flue damper.”

      @@MartinJohnsonOffGridLiving My stove said the same thing,but it also said all crimped ends must be facing down towards the stove. You have your crimped ends facing upwards I noticed.

    Been subscribed a while now. You guys are fast becoming my favorite channel. One thing... When you installed the silver pipe, and the box. Did you notice how all the male sides to the pipes were down, and the female side was up? That's the way it is supposed to be. It looks, though, like you installed the black pipe with the male side up. That is wrong. The reason for this, is because if you get ceostote in the pipes, when it runs down the inside of the pipe, with the male side up... it will run through the crack there, and down the outside of the pipe. Aside from it being ugly.... If there is ever a creosote fire, that will bring the flames right inside the house, in a hurry. If indeed the black pipe is installed male side up, I am surprised you passed an inspection. It is not to code, that way. For the reasons I stated.

      Many people have been confused by that. From the manufacturer "The orientation of all chimney connector components must be with the crimped end (outer black pipe) pointing up, towards the chimney? This is double wall pipe. The inner pipe is as you described. here is a link if you are interested selkirkcorp.com/-/media/selkirk/reference-documents/common/file/installation/stove-pipe/double-wall-stove-pipe-dsp/double-wall-stove-pipe-dsp.pdf
