My sister has a small business selling handmade press on nails and we just went to a holiday craft event this weekend. The event organizers almost denied her because a Color Street hun had already signed up and they try to not have two people selling similar products. Luckily she got in, but it’s sad how they almost turned away a real small business owner in favor for of an MLM scammer
I sell Scentsy and do 2 regular events every month. The coordinators for both events have asked me if it was OK if they allowed other small business wax melts in, I told them to please include those other businesses because everyone sells something different. In some instances I directed people to their booth because they had scents that I didn't. I know I'm not the usual mlm rep, it's definitely frustrating to see the gross behavior that seems to be the norm.
Same. I make wax melts and got stuck next to a scentsy rep. I decided to be an ass and ask her 'oh did you make those yourself?' Luckily I made a sale while she didn't 😂
It blows my mind that Huns spend their own money to be at these shows with MLM products. I work in the wedding and event industry as a business owner and the amount of people who pay money to join bridal fairs and open houses (sometimes like $1000) and don’t get even one bite from a customer is mind boggling. i’ll never understand why Australians join MLMs. our minimum wage is $23 before any kind of loading. you’d easily make so much more money working one day a week than you would selling crap online 😭
Very true. I'm an aussie and My SIL got sucked into Younique (sorry spelling) and my older sister and I gathered soooo much evidence to show her it was an MLM scam. This was also back in 2016 so there was nowhere near as many videos available but we still had a bunch of info to show her it was not legit and she was going to lose all her money. My brother had no idea she put everything at the beginning on his credit card and oh my when he found out, he was beyond angry. The thing that my sister and I could not understand is why she just wouldn't even listen to us AND she has never known how to apply make up...like at all. We always did her make up for her on spesh occasions etc so it made no sense. She scammed soooo many of her friends who she doesn't understand why they stopped talking to her and are still not friends with her. It took about a year for her to realise she was in a hole and had SO much product that was sitting just going bad. I refused to buy anything from her as I stuck to my morals but my sister was nice and got some crappy eye shadows. I got mad at my sister cos she was enabling her but I can see why she wanted to support her. It's now the main thing we aren't allowed to talk about or bring up by her which I think is just ridiculous. Oh btw my SIL is probably one of the most selfish and entitled person I've ever met so it all made sense.
Australian here, I can see why mums do this. I was part of nutramedics for years, you can earn up to 40 thousand ( from memory that is ) and not pay tax as the gov classes these mlms as a hobby not as an income source. I only bought products for myself and my mum as I enjoyed them and we got a discount, never did any parties nor was I pushed to do them. I stopped buying because it got too expensive and I couldn’t no longer afford to buy a $25 bottle of shower wash.
Not if you have a couple of kids that will have to go into day care. That eats a big chunk of your pay, plus you don't get to spend that time with them every day. I can easily see why especially stay at home mothers or fathers would get into these "jobs" for the income. And if you live farther out from wherever the jobs are, all the more reason. Just being able to avoid having to get small children up and going very early in the morning, driving them to day care then driving to work, working, coming home and then wanting to spend time with the kids but still having things like dinner and laundry to tend to makes it worth it if you can make at least equal to minimum wage. Or even a bit less, since you wouldn't be bringing home minimum wage after child care anyway.
@@mommy2libras this is true if you have very young children, but children aged 3 and above and above should be in kinder (free in my state) for 5-15 hours per week, or full time school
It makes me SOOOOO ANGRY when I see MLMs at pop-ups!!! Being an ACTUAL small business owner, it just takes away from us. People get so SOURED from getting pitched at, that they WILL LEAVE without seeing what we have to offer. Being a small business isn't easy. Sometimes you won't profit for your first couple of years in business... so the lies are all disgusting... they need to take their garbage elsewhere...
I feel so badly for the Christmas Bazaar crafters, those selling things they personally made, trying to sell next to mlm reps. I’ve been there (I sell hand dyed yarn and hand made bags) and it’s so frustrating to be next to a big company’s products at one of these events.
I agree! I do knit and crochet projects, Diamond art, etc. I was just at a sale yesterday and sold a grand total of 4 items…the MLM tables were right by the door…
I just went to a holiday event and can't tell you how many of them tried to get me to their table. One lady said oh, is there a reason and I said yes, I'm allergic to MLM. 😂😂
When you said the advent calendar was $300, my jaw dropped. Im used to german advent calendars which have all 25 days and are just a little piece of chocolate or opening a window to see a cute picture. They cost less than €30
If only mlmers put their passion and hard work into forming a skill or trade, they could legit follow most of their own advice and actually do something great! Art, content creation, freelance work for countless skills--the options these days are endless! And they legit DO give you satisfaction in yourself and your work. You can start from nothing and work to make something of yourself, all without a soulless, toxic company.
As an artist, I was part of a local “Holiday Art Market” and I’m happy to say there were Zero MLM’s as vendors! Rare to see, sadly, but it was nice to see the room populated with actual artisans and small business owners! Also I love this video idea! It would be amazing if people watched and thought, ew let’s add schilling a pyramid scheme to the already high level of stress and anxiety? No thanks! And then swore off ever getting involved in an MLM! That would be your Christmas gift to them, Hannah!
I've noticed more and more art markets and craft sales either not allowing MLMs, or limiting them to 2 or 3 tables out of 50. I love seeing it, because the sooner these things die, the better, and when you're advertising an "artisan" event and have MLMs... what are you even doing? Lol
@@GentaroYumeno MLM stands for Multi Level Marketing and it means a business where the person selling items for the MLM company also is required to get other people to sign up and sell items for the company in order to make money (because they make money from the people they sign up). It’s very unethical because the majority of people working for MLM companies don’t make money even though they work hard. These companies often show up at fairs and markets pretending to be small businesses. Think pampered chef, paparazzi, stampin up, scentscy, thirty-one gifts, etc
The biggest artisan/craft fair in the state I live in has a strict no MLM policy, in fact most of the artisan fairs/holiday bazaars in my area don't allow MLMs to set up a booth. I know this because one of the MLM huns I happen to be friends with on FB is constantly complaining about how her booth applications for the big fairs and bazaars in the area always get rejected.
Honestly, the first thing that went through my mind when I saw that little shop stand was that the mother planned to use her kid to make sales for her. Someone is way more likely to stop for a kid selling something than an adult because it's "cute," and then you would feel bad for making the kid "sad" because you didn't buy something.
I’m in a Facebook group that has a No MLM rule & every time they do a small business promotion thread (usually around holidays), they repost the rule that MLMs are not small businesses & cannot be promoted on the thread. I’ve been in this group for years and EVERY TIME one of those threads comes up, all the Huns in the group come out to complain that they’re a “small business” and the rule is “discrimination.” Every time I see a small business thread in the group, I pop my popcorn and head to the comments 🫡 it’s my favorite time to be in the group because the admin/mods have absolutely no chill about it & it’s sooo entertaining.
I’m in the middle of the video and just heard about the sweet Australian woman having moved out to the country. Oof, yeah. She’s likely to be extremely isolated.
I get the sense that the Australian one doesn’t believe what she is saying. Either that or she is nervous about posting. A lot of umming and ahhing and doesn’t seem convinced by it at all.
You should design a shirt specifically for people to wear to craft fairs that they can point to when MLM folks try to pitch the opportunity. Something light hearted but still to the point. 😂
I love how in story # 4 she says the makeup bags were only like $10 or $15, but doesn't even mention how many hundreds of dollars the Monat products cost
I find it insane how they preach of it being an amazing opportunity and compensation system whilst begging people to buy and telling everyone how broke they are
Christmas craft fairs here (Nova Scotia, Canada) are full of mlm reps. The craft fairs call them 'vendors' or 'direct sellers'. I used to sell at craft fairs (things I actually made, not mlm stuff) and it was hard to find shows that were for actual crafters only. I also saw an ad for a craft fair last year where almost all of the listed sellers were different mlms.
“It’s holidays, money are tight at this time...” Exactly, so quilt-tripping people who are as tight at money as you to spend a lot of money for overpriced hair oil… I would rather buy a ton of Olaplex oil, that actually work (and is expensive, but not THIS expensive! I can get three and it will still be cheaper than one Monat!)
Great vid!! Love the festive spin. As someone who just got back from early Xmas with a cousin who told us her Herbalife storefront woes (there’s 4 on this street alone!) and put colorstreet in everyone’s stockings, I very much appreciate the jab at MLMers’ shady holiday tactics
"If you are wondering how I am making this work..." says the lady that is literally begging people to buy products because shes broke.... Weird flex, but okay
Seriously the christmas bazaar one reminded of something I saw in my towns own little christmas bazaar they have all of december. Some forever living hun was trying to sell her overpriced aloe vera. There's maybe 5 little "houses" and they seriously let an mlm hun get one. I see this happening more and more at flea markets here too.
Thank you for the PSA to Craft Fair organizers!! As the owner of a handmade craft business it irks me when craft fairs allow MLMs. I dream up, design & make all my own products with my own hands. They sell over priced crap that they had no say in creating. Plus, a lot of people won’t go to craft fairs if MLMs are allowed which then reduces attendance for the actual crafts people.
I participate in sales organized by a certain group and while they do allow one of each MLM up to a certain number-like 15 total MLMs-I love that they put them in a separate area, all in one line. I’ve been to craft sales where they have them all mixed in and I hate that.
One thing I’ve noticed similar amongst all Huns is that they always have a video (or 2 or 3…) in which they start off by saying “I usually don’t post something like this…”. Yes, they do. They have several videos of them posting about the same thing!
We are adopting a baby and I am in some Facebook groups anyway this lady is offering her commissions if the waiting family hosts a pampered chef party. I was so annoyed
In high school marching band we hosted both Scentsy and Twenty-One fundraisers, both I’m assuming because band parents who were reps for these companies brought up the idea. (I think there was a butter braid bread one too?)
You could add "Hun Bingo" as a kind of video you do. You offer 6 different Bingo cards that we can download. Then you can do "Hun Bingo" videos. Where you highlight the classic tactics, fails etc. At the beginning of the video, we each select one bingo card & play hun bingo along to tbe video.
I live in Texas and I’ve seen MLM stalls at craft fairs. My aunt and I love going to them and finding unique gifts. I always very clearly and loudly tell my aunt “NOT THAT ONE, it’s an MLM!”
Hannah, your knack for providing simplified explanations and facial expressions (that mirrors my own in a lot of places) in response to these MLM videos is truly delightful. I wholeheartedly resonate with your principle on not supporting MLMs, and it pains me to witness unsuspecting family members being lured into these deceptive schemes. It's particularly disheartening when those who can least afford it end up making that regrettable mistake!
I was thinking of this video as I set up my table to sell my handmade resin crafts and jewelry at a spring craft and watched a Pruvit rep set up across from me. Then watched her go live on Facebook with that super fake cheery "Hey everybody! Just jumping on ..." The cringe was strong.
i know this is an older video - but i thought i would share, the lady gifting the Monet hair stuff in giftbag for her sisters, is from australia - and MLM's like Monet etc are not as well known. i only know about it because my parents got scammed into doing a bit of Amway back in the late 90's early 00's.
25:10 what she’s not telling you is she would likely be receiving what we call Centrelink (social services payments) and the MLM income would be additional to that. Which is why she can “stay at home with the kids” she’s being paid. Yes it’s not a lot but also it’s at least minimum wage that she could earn.
so wait the calendar was $300, valued at $600, but the products inside are all 40% off the day they're opened?? so it's worth just over $300, and you could just buy the individual products on sale that you want instead for about the same amount (maybe plus shipping, idk how shipping works for that company)
It makes me super sad that Usborn books is now an mlm. My son, who's 34 now, and I adored those books when he was small. I would purchase them at a bookstore (remember those? 😢). Heartbreaking. All of it.
"as you know, every little bit counts... which is why you should spend it on products you don't need just so you can help me make rank and get 1% more commission cuts!"
“Sounds free to me” lol mlm reps are so brandwashed they literally think that when you buy an item and you get than item that it’s free bc they are used to paying for things with zero return 😂😂😂
I’m sooooo glad I got out of CM, with a huge financial loss, long before the internet. I cannot imagine the pressure from uplines to get videos, reels, TikTok every day. I would crater.
in the case of the girl giving the gifts, at least she's personalizing them and the items and the bags would be a decent gift even without the monat additions. its not just monat in a gift bag
32:09 this would be even funnier if you had a little bingo card in your hands, and when you get a bingo you can look at the rep who go you there all excited like and exclaim they've done it! They have given you the MLM bingo you were looking for, then thank them while they look at you in bewilderment.
You won't find the Monat Australia income disclosure statement because truthfully Australians are a little more clue-d in on all this MLM crap. It's around believe me I've seen enough people in my circles hop on various bandwagons including Monat however they also drop off REAL quick (typical turnover IMO). So I doubt they'd want to disclose how bad they're doing in Australia.
The Australian woman sounded so desperate to me when she was asking people to buy products. Definitely also a predatory ask, but she just seemed so afraid to me.
We purchased some services from a home improvement company. They did a fantastic job and I had no complaints. It was strange to get an ornament from them with their company logo on it. When I saw the advent calendar and heard what you said about the ornament, your thoughts aligned with mine. Oh wow, an advertisement, on our tree. How... wonderful.
Just let that sink in - if they can offer an advent calender where the products inside are basically 50% discounted and THEN, on top of it, the company can offer a 40% discount for each product on their website.... eh, just think of the fkn MARGIN these products have when they are offered to you with their regular price... they are STILL making lots of money when the price is cut in half... YIKES
My high school math teacher (who was also the cheerleading coach) would have Scentsy fundraisers every year to raise money for the cheerleading squad. It makes me kind of wonder if Scentsy has a special fundraising program for distributors?
I remember one of my wake up calls was when my SIL bought tastefully simple from me only to gift it back to me 😄😄😄 Not that I didn’t like the stuff, but something about it made me realize people didn’t really want to buy it for all thier family and friends 😂😂😂
The booth fees for these holiday bazaars or "craft shows" is an additional untold cost of the MLM nightmare. The traffic is usually very little. It ends up being a bunch of MLM huns "supporting each other's businesses". Then there's the drama of which mlm has the best business model. 😂 omg....I spent way too much for so very little trying to run a "business." The drama that came with it was so exhausting.
This is a great point!! It costs $ to have a booth. But for me, when I've helped friends at their (small business) booths, it was the energy suck that was so tough. I would have a much harder time being excited all day about MLM products...
I know a woman who sells Mary Kay. She's relatively high in the ranks, but her whole life is spent around that company! I don't even think she does anything normal.
I hate to be a Grinch, but I've come to look at the "holiday season" with the same disappointment and disillusionment as rainbow capitalism. I'm on board with sentimentality, altruism, and the aspirations of peace on earth. I wish people had that attitude all year. MLMs promote greed and exploitation all year but it's especially egregious when it's juxtaposed against the wholesomeness of the season
I don’t know if anyone mentioned this yet, but city of the Christmas Market - Killeen, TX - is home to Ft. Cavazos, one of the 5 largest military bases. Not surprised at the MLM representation. Prime target market! (Pun intended.)
The advent calendars are surely a win for the top of the pyramid. I don’t know how much a rep is making on a sale, but when they have 4-5 people in their downline it may already pays out. But of course, the company always makes the most.

What’s ur small business? I’d love to check it out ♥️♥️ I love supporting actual small businesses
I feel so badly for the Christmas Bazaar crafters, those selling things they personally made, trying to sell next to mlm reps. I’ve been there (I sell hand dyed yarn and hand made bags) and it’s so frustrating to be next to a big company’s products at one of these events.
UGH- I agree. MLMs should be banned from craft fairs!
I agree! I do knit and crochet projects, Diamond art, etc. I was just at a sale yesterday and sold a grand total of 4 items…the MLM tables were right by the door…
@@MusikGirl23 Maddening!
Your 4 customers got the best deal!
@@BedeSisters awe thanks :) I do put love and effort into every piece!
I just went to a holiday event and can't tell you how many of them tried to get me to their table. One lady said oh, is there a reason and I said yes, I'm allergic to MLM. 😂😂
Omg I just KNEW that triangle advent calendar was gonna be expensive but 300?????? Holy moly
When you said the advent calendar was $300, my jaw dropped. Im used to german advent calendars which have all 25 days and are just a little piece of chocolate or opening a window to see a cute picture. They cost less than €30
I love how the first item on the video is an advent calendar in the shape of a ...PYRAMID!! 😭
Nuh uh!! It's a Christmas tree lol (I'm being totally sarcastic)
@@meaghannemack82 🤣
We just went to one of our kids holiday bazaars and to my horror, the one mlm booth that was there was OPTAVIA 🤢
Yikes 😬😳
If only mlmers put their passion and hard work into forming a skill or trade, they could legit follow most of their own advice and actually do something great! Art, content creation, freelance work for countless skills--the options these days are endless! And they legit DO give you satisfaction in yourself and your work. You can start from nothing and work to make something of yourself, all without a soulless, toxic company.
Me “oh those cosmetic bags are cute, Monat sells those?” Her: I got these from Kmart. 🤣🤣
I thought the same.
same i was like "there's no way monat sells those-- oh."
If Monat sold them they'd cost $250 😂
Lol
i'm still confused on what MLM is
@@GentaroYumeno MLM stands for Multi Level Marketing and it means a business where the person selling items for the MLM company also is required to get other people to sign up and sell items for the company in order to make money (because they make money from the people they sign up). It’s very unethical because the majority of people working for MLM companies don’t make money even though they work hard. These companies often show up at fairs and markets pretending to be small businesses. Think pampered chef, paparazzi, stampin up, scentscy, thirty-one gifts, etc
I’m happy with my Lindt advent calendar where I get a piece of awesome chocolate every day 🤷🏻♀️
I bet it was less than 300 dollars 😂
Now THAT'S value !
my £3 cadbury advent calendar!!
I feel bad. I used to do this too, not realizing how manipulative it was. It's hard when you're in it.
Excellent. That's the right direction
that advent calendar is also only 12 days. most advents are 24 or 25 😅
Honestly, the first thing that went through my mind when I saw that little shop stand was that the mother planned to use her kid to make sales for her. Someone is way more likely to stop for a kid selling something than an adult because it's "cute," and then you would feel bad for making the kid "sad" because you didn't buy something.
The advent calnder shaped like a pyramid, I CANNOT 🤣
I'd love to check out that group! I started a pet sitting & dog walking business in Portland, OR
Time for the Michael Jackson "Thriller" GIF 😂
Yep, I’d love to see that FB group!
I’m in the middle of the video and just heard about the sweet Australian woman having moved out to the country. Oof, yeah. She’s likely to be extremely isolated.
“It helps put money in my bank account before Christmas” and takes money out of your bank account before Xmas. 🙃
😏😏😏👏👏
I get the sense that the Australian one doesn’t believe what she is saying. Either that or she is nervous about posting. A lot of umming and ahhing and doesn’t seem convinced by it at all.
I adore your humor Hannah and when you’re fired up like you are in this video…well that’s the best holiday gift of all 🎄❤️🎄❤️🎄
You should design a shirt specifically for people to wear to craft fairs that they can point to when MLM folks try to pitch the opportunity. Something light hearted but still to the point. 😂
I should wear it to my family Thanksgiving and Xmas too 😅🥴 I have a few die-hard MLMers in my extended fam
I love how in story # 4 she says the makeup bags were only like $10 or $15, but doesn't even mention how many hundreds of dollars the Monat products cost
I find it insane how they preach of it being an amazing opportunity and compensation system whilst begging people to buy and telling everyone how broke they are
I went to a bizarre recently. I made a point to avoid every single mlm and instead bought from the true small business owners.
If a friend need help with money, christmas or not, i'd prefer give reel money than buyin crap from a mlm😅
If you are working in sales, it should ALWAYS be about the customer. No body cares about your goals except your mom.
Yeah, in my area it's becoming more and more the norm for bazaars or other shows like this to be strictly artisans only, not MLMs. (Fortunately)
I think the public is starting to comment and ask for MLM free fairs
I'm having a hard time surviving my last Monday before Christmas--thanks for making it a bit easier!
16:12 selfless and thoughtful would be saying “here try this, if you like it, I’ll get it for you at cost”
I participate in sales organized by a certain group and while they do allow one of each MLM up to a certain number-like 15 total MLMs-I love that they put them in a separate area, all in one line. I’ve been to craft sales where they have them all mixed in and I hate that.
As someone who sells actual hand made items, it drives me nuts that literally HALF the vendors at most markets are freaking MLMs 🙄
Agreed. Agreed…
We should start our own and exclude mlm and import shops
One thing I’ve noticed similar amongst all Huns is that they always have a video (or 2 or 3…) in which they start off by saying “I usually don’t post something like this…”. Yes, they do. They have several videos of them posting about the same thing!
I got an Advent calendar this year from a normal company. It was $150 for 24 full size skin care and makeup items. That MLM calendar is a rip-off.
We are adopting a baby and I am in some Facebook groups anyway this lady is offering her commissions if the waiting family hosts a pampered chef party. I was so annoyed
Congratulations ♥️ I wish you and your family all the good in this world 👶
What a cute idea to do a holiday themed fails video! I loved the music and festivity of it all lol
In high school marching band we hosted both Scentsy and Twenty-One fundraisers, both I’m assuming because band parents who were reps for these companies brought up the idea. (I think there was a butter braid bread one too?)
Omg here is the aftermath of recruiting new girls from Australia. They only just started and you can hear the desperation in them already.
I feel like you missed the opportunity to point out that the MLM calendar is literally the shape of a pyramid 😂😭
🎶It's the most scamable time of the year🎶
Ewww, getting the grossest throwbacks to giving MLM stuff as a gift (to my family who were customers)
I don’t celebrate Christmas, but I love this holiday edition! I want this all throughout the year!!
I've been in bed all day (exhaustion) and your intro literally made me get out of it; need hot chocolate. Thank you.❤️
Reminds me of the Channel calander that included stickers....
Omg I'm from Killeen, not surprising though bc Fort Hood is located here, and mlm's prey on young moms it seems who want to stay home.
Actual factor subscriber here- our family loves the meals!!!! The green beans as a side are chefs kiss.. seriously good and I'm just a consumer 😊
I have a cupcake and margarita! 😂 and I’m ready for this video.
I was thinking of this video as I set up my table to sell my handmade resin crafts and jewelry at a spring craft and watched a Pruvit rep set up across from me. Then watched her go live on Facebook with that super fake cheery "Hey everybody! Just jumping on ..." The cringe was strong.
Geezus, that advent calendar🙄
Gifting a product from your inventory feels so sales-y to me, especially when it’s not even a handmade item.
Advent is 4 weeks before Christmas, 12 days of Christmas is the 12 days *after* Christmas
i know this is an older video - but i thought i would share, the lady gifting the Monet hair stuff in giftbag for her sisters, is from australia - and MLM's like Monet etc are not as well known. i only know about it because my parents got scammed into doing a bit of Amway back in the late 90's early 00's.
Yes I go to these trade shows and they are all there. I see their clipboards to sign new people up.
so wait the calendar was $300, valued at $600, but the products inside are all 40% off the day they're opened??
so it's worth just over $300, and you could just buy the individual products on sale that you want instead for about the same amount (maybe plus shipping, idk how shipping works for that company)
Love the holiday flair!
I’m sooooo glad I got out of CM, with a huge financial loss, long before the internet. I cannot imagine the pressure from uplines to get videos, reels, TikTok every day. I would crater.
Me at our local earth day festival: 'Ew, pyramid scheme. Another one. Gross another pyramid scheme. There's another 🤢'
Omg the MLM Christmas fair sent me! I would actually LOVE to go to that just to hear all the pitches
Ahhh this holiday edition is great!! 😭😂♥️ such a good idea! Sending love to you and yours. Happy holidays! 🎄
in the case of the girl giving the gifts, at least she's personalizing them and the items and the bags would be a decent gift even without the monat additions. its not just monat in a gift bag
Sorry hun, it’s actually a great compensation plan 💅 She can help you get started if you want to start making money with her!
Yes, just commented the same. She sounded desperate 😢
I think you need to make this bingo card for people who end up at craft fairs anyway next.
Honestly, just to have in our back pockets, then someone can send in a horror story telling us how it went
I remember one of my wake up calls was when my SIL bought tastefully simple from me only to gift it back to me 😄😄😄
Not that I didn’t like the stuff, but something about it made me realize people didn’t really want to buy it for all thier family and friends 😂😂😂
Not MLM-related but please cover the (illegal) holiday pyramid schemes that go around social media every year, such as send 1 book receive 36
Sounds like the old chain letters.
Holiday Hun Madness! I am down for it! This calls for another cup of coffee and a cookie exchange cookie!
It wouldn't surprise me if the rep behind the preschool fundraiser was one the employees.
Factor is literally the only premade meal service I’ve liked. I get a box every other week. Great partnership!
