As someone who did the Optavia plan off and on for three years, my final year I lost 95 lbs, I can testify that Hannah is absolutely correct about her ratings of these fuelings. The chili is an absolute crime against humanity. One thing she didn't mention, and maybe it was because the chili was so dry, was that the "meat" substitute in the chili is chewy bits of protein that feel like clams in your mouth. It doesn't matter how long you cook it, the chili beans are always hard. It is amazing how when you are living on 1000-1200 calories a day, how you legit look forward to having a "cookie" fueling. You do get used to the fuelings after a while. I was in a Facebook group for Optavia users and people had all these "hacks" to make the fuelings better. One thing I would do is mix two cookie fuelings together with one egg white and water and then cook it in my waffle iron. It made two waffles, so I would eat one later. I also did the same for the mashed potatoes. The shakes are so much more tolerable when you make them with ice and unsweetened almond milk. The coffee soft serve was actually really gross because it has a mucus-like consistency if you don't eat it right away. I may have lost 95 lbs on Optavia, but since getting off I have gained back 75 lbs. It is devastating both emotionally and mentally. I spent weeks in bed crying and feeling horrible about myself. Overall this diet is not at all sustainable physically or financially. My Optavia orders were anywhere from $275 to $425 a month. Whenever I told my coach that it was getting financially difficult to stay on the plan, she would just try to recruit me as a rep. I actually attended one of the Zoom meeting they hold for potential new recruits. It felt so culty. All of those women were so brainwashed. My coach had been selling Optavia for a very long time. I don't doubt that she had a large down-line. What eventually REALLY opened my eyes, was when I found out that my coach, who looks thin enough that I might consider she has an eating disorder, was STILL buying and eating fuelings every day! I was like, well.. if THAT'S what it takes to maintain this weight loss and all I have is a future of eating Optavia fuelings for the rest of my life, then I am better off without it. Sorry for the long post. I just wanted to share my story so if any of you are on Optavia or have a friend or loved one on "the plan" to be warned.
My story is similar to yours except I did sign up as a coach otherwise I couldnt continue to afford the food. I was a coach for around 3 years. My first six months I lost 60 pounds. After that I struggled with keeping it off and it was slowly creeping back on as I stopped staying so strict on the diet. I had to eventually quit coaching for my mental health. I have gained all my weight back and feel like a failure in the aspect. My relationship with food was obviously always bad since I felt the need to go on the diet in the first place. But now it is horrible. My mind is completely messed up around food. I am bad about snacking or barely eating anything all day then still eating one meal in the evening. Anyway, sorry so long , just wanted you to know you were not alone. I am kind of interested in who your coach was because I know just about all the very top people in the company. I went to A LoT of events!! Spent so much money on all that!!
Here is how I think you should look at your time in optivia, it takes an incredible amount of strength and resilience to eat a diet of stuff that looks and tastes like dog barf, it wasn’t optivia that inspired your weight loss, you lost weight in spite of optivia not because of it, you can and will achieve your goals as soon as you are ready. Instead of looking shamefully at that time you should be incredibly proud that with that horrible stuff from an Mlm you were able to accomplish something you wanted, just imagine what you could do with delicious good food, there is a ton of content out there to help you. So please try and see yourself the way I do as an incredible strong person who accomplished their goals in spite of a scam over charging you for “fuelings” that look and taste like garbage. You should be very proud of what you were able to do!!!
@tonyasmith2632 I apologize that I did not respond to your message sooner. I get a lot of notifications in RUclips, and sometimes I miss them. Thank you so much for sharing your experience with me. I hope that you can improve your relationship with food over time. I wish you all the best. I would tell you who my coach was, but I don't want to out her on social media. 🥰
@ladidaohoh3168 Wow! Your comment blew me away. I am so grateful for your point of view about this. Occasionally, I have tried to remind myself that I was strong enough to stick with the diet for so long. I have struggled with my weight ever since I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism in 1998. However, going through menopause at the age of 36, along with some other health issues, seems to be where things went really wrong for me. I appreciate you taking the time to write your comment and encourage me. Thank you so much! 🥰
In a certain respect, that's why I believed Hannah when she said how horrible the fuelings were. If you have to use such flowery words to describe mashed potatoes, it just can't be tasty. I'm a realist, I call things as I see them. I'm not on the Atkins diet. But I drink their shakes because they're tasty, low in calories, and have enough fiber to keep me full. I drink the coffee flavor quite a lot. It doesn't have or need a description like this. The shake doesn't cost that much either.
When Hanna takes a bite of the “chili”, she looks like she is going to cry… and then you see all of her life choices pass before her eyes and question everything that lead her to this moment.
Omg! I love a Baconator! That’s like probably my favorite burger EVER! Have you had the breakfast one yet? It’s delicious too! I just get it minus the egg
My hairstylist and I were talking about this diet. She said she had a client whom was doing the diet and had come in for a cut. She went to wash the clients hair and noticed her hair falling out. Worried , she asked if she was ill or had to take a different medication. The client said no, she was doing the Optavia diet. This diet is so restrictive on calories that causes hair loss from malnutrition. This diet needs to be taken off the market immediately.
The worst part of Optavia besides the fact that it is training people to eat far too little and trash their metabolism, is that they are making people eat overpriced packaged food rather than healthy simple meals they can make themselves. There is a new line at my grocery store in the medical section with very similar meals, bars, and shakes that is a fraction of the price.
And why pay a minimum of 300 a month when you can just supplement homemade meals with regular protein bars and shakes to get your protein in? Still so much cheaper.
I've always thought that "fuelings" makes it sound like they're in a post-apocalyptic world like The Hunger Games where everyone is rationed out food because they don't have enough supply to meet demand 🤐
THAT'S the description I've been looking for! I've been trying to put into words why "fuelings" sounds so wrong, and that's it. It's like an alternate word for rations, but worse 😂
As a registered dietitian and avid anti-MLMer, if there were one MLM company I could snap my fingers and wipe from the earth it would be Optavia 😤 every time I hear about them it sends me into a rage! thank you Hannah for taking one for the team and for speaking so eloquently about the dangers of restrictive diets.
What is your opinion on the intermittent fasting craze? I need to lose weight and have wantied to try intermittent fasting but I'm feeling like it would be bad for the body, like Octavia 😳😕. As a dietitian, what are your thoughts?
@@dlm4501 hi! current research on intermittent fasting shows that it’s not more effective for weight loss than simply reducing your calorie intake, there’s not really anything special about it despite what its followers may claim. That being said, people can have success with it as a method to cut back on their daily calorie intake IF it’s something that works with their lifestyle and is sustainable for them. it’s definitely not appropriate for everyone to try though, for example I would caution against it for athletes, people with blood sugar imbalances, or history of disordered eating (just a few off the top of my head). Always a good idea to run it by your doc first. In my opinion it’s not necessarily “bad” like Optavia because you can be in a mild caloric deficit instead of a severe one, and you’re free to eat normal, nutritious foods instead of their powdered fake food lol.
I have limited my eating to a time period. I eat between 9 am and 5 pm. I do low carb. I lost 55 lbs in 10 months. My doctor was so pleased. I think not eating after 5 pm is what helped my weight loss.
“Fuelings” is so weird. It sounds like we’re subhuman or less-than and not worthy of regular food. Which to be fair is probably how most of these MLMs see people as - objects and cash cows rather than actual people. It’s also a hilarious attempt at giving their cat food-esque dietary menu a “health and wellness” sounding name. So manipulative and terrible marketing lol
It's very condescending to me. Like when adults use baby terms to other adults when taking care of bodily functions. JMHO. Think.....like Big Ed on 90 Day.
A lot of people use the food = fuel mentality to dig themselves out of eating disorders. Please don't call it sub-human or not worthy. The way optivia uses it though, yes it's gross
No amount of money could make me eat that but as someone who has spent a lot of years working in real marketing, not network marketing, I want to meet the person that wrote those product descriptions because damn… they were actually some seriously impressive nonsense.
My husband and I did Optavia last year because my daughter-in-law is a rep. I told her we would try it on the condition that I didn’t have to join the MLM. The samples you tried are just a small example of the “fuelings.” There are many that are far more disgusting than those. The macaroni and cheese is one of them. The pasta never gets soft. Someone said you could soak it overnight - no thanks. There are bars that aren’t too bad, and other shakes (which I used almond milk instead of water). We each lost 20 lbs and felt pretty good. But as time has gone on, I found myself hungry all the time which is the beginning of failure. And, yes, they are very expensive. Thanks for covering this product. Stay healthy - your baby bump is beautiful!
There are more disgusting fuelings?? How does anyone eat that? This is how the program works, give people super bad tasting food so they don't eat anything and loose weight, lol!
The textures are all over the place! I got pretty good at getting the shakes smooth, but everything else was just nasty. How can something be congealed, hot, cold, slimy, and grainy all at the same time? That was my experience with the mac 'n cheese and mashed potatoes. Also, who eats JUST a tiny serving of mashed potatoes as a meal? Even to me (who loves mashed potatoes), that was weird.
@@duckiekraft6893 I manged to get the mashed potatoes down by adding an egg and water and putting them in the waffle maker. Just thinking about putting any Optavia in my mouth makes me want to throw up though.
I had a patient who was on Optavia while pregnant. She was fine during the first trimester, but there started being some pretty serious issues in the second trimester. She had to have a pretty serious scare before completely coming off Optavia. Her coach was insistent to her that Optavia is completely healthy for pregnant women (according to the patient, anyway), which is infuriating in and of itself, even after multiple doctors told her to get off Optavia (myself included). The reps are really predatory and don't seem to give a crap what about the health of their clients. My patient is fine now, and had a healthy baby, but that whole situation frustrated myself and so many of my coworkers.
That makes me so angry. I am glad that she is okay. No pregnant women should ever be using Optavia. I was on it for over a year and started to have severe stomach issues with pain and cramping. My "coach" kept insisting it wasn't the fault of the fuelings.
My mom's rep ("diet coach") tried contacting me after my mom and I had an argument about her getting into Optavia. (Note: the rep asked my mom's consent to contact me without my mom getting my consent. 🙄) When I confronted my mom about it, she said, "she just wants to talk to you about my diet journey so you can better support me." This led to a huge fight and she still refuses to believe that her rep just wanted to try to con me into joining. I got even angrier when I read how reps try to keep pregnant people on the diet despite how dangerous it is for them and their babies. I had just gotten into my 3rd trimester and even if my mom does think her rep was just trying to convince me to support her, I still feel betrayed. I thought my mom had more sense than that.
Not optavia but a similar mlm the 1:1 diet tried to convince me that their diet would help with my fertility issues. But when I got the literature it said it can stop periods. I explained to the hun this defeats everything I am trying to achieve and she tried to tell me that would never happen.. like ma'am it is in the leaflet you gave me.
As someone who uses instant mashed potatoes and sometimes even makes them in the microwave, they've never been gritty or sandy-feeling or anything. I made this face 😬 the whole time I watched this video, lol. Thanks for taking one for the team!
Same! There have even been times where I’ve been in the middle of watching someone else’s video, see that Hannah uploaded, and didn’t even finish the other one before starting Hannah’s
I've fallen onto some hard times and have been using my university's food pantry to help me get by. I stopped by today and saw there was a whole new section of these. After having watched your video this morning and being someone who has struggled with disordered eating for years, seeing all the almost expired packets today was just really crushing. I get we're supposed to be thankful for anything donated but...I chose to leave those behind in favor of other things. Hopefully this was a sign of someone leaving optavia and trying to destash.
A few years ago I rapidly gained 100 pounds with no apparent cause or change in diet. My doctor suggested this diet ( I think it was called Medifast) and that I eat 600 calories a day while she took my blood work every other week. Turns out I had a BRAIN TUMOR that was causing extreme hormonal disruptions. These things are so freaking harmful and I appreciate it you talking about it
The fact that Zeke didn’t even try to sneak a bite made me crack up. Also as someone still in my first trimester with serious nausea and smell aversions I was gagging just watching you eat that chili. 🤣
My boss is a "coach" for this MLM. He has lost weight after using Optavia. He doesn't mention it much and hasn't tried to rope me in. But he has this stuff all over the little kitchen. I've always wondered what it tasted like, but I never wanted to try it out and risk getting pitched at
@@meredithszymanski4720 He has them for himself. I'm sure he'd be willing to let someone try one if they ask. But he doesn't ever ask if we want to try one. He did have some food at one point, but he mostly just has the powders now. I'm not sure what rank he is, but Optavia is so so big in my town. So I doubt his downline can be that big. It saddens me a little bit, since he actually has a genuine small business that he's had for over 20 years at this point.
My sister has done really well on it but after she ordered me some items to try I couldn't do it. The shakes and a couple of bars were tolerable but I can get tastier options at the store already. Honestly though I don't need a diet program, I do think it has helped her finally practice portion control and sone other unhealthy habits. She's maintained a 60+ loss for 2 years. I'm happy for her but don't like it happened from a mlm.
Can you imagine how miserable the ppl are who actually eat this crap every day?! Hannah, you're a trooper for trying all those "foods" so we don't have to!!!
Side note: I lost 8 pounds in that one week. I went on Weight Watchers the day after quitting Optivia and gained 5 pounds back almost immediately. Not meant for the long haul!
I am really glad you addressed concerns. I am glad you are looking out for you and the baby. I hope your pregnancy runs super smoothly. Congratulations again.
Building bridges between us die hard anti-mlm folks and those still in the game is the only realistic way to get through to anyone I am so for this content style as a breakthrough technique great idea Hanna
I been following Michelle McDaniels and Grow with Jo and that has helped so much! They both have very different RUclips channels 🤭😅 but I think each serves a purposes, for example Jo's channel has all the free workouts and meal plans for free 🤗 and Michelle has all the motivation and sarcasm, sense of humor that keeps me motivated! Also gives me the reminder that sometimes social media is mess 🤭 the idea of fat acceptance is so strong and spreads the wrong information, but I think Michelle does a wonderful job with her humor debunking all of that! Plus she is open about her binge eating disorder and other things! And it's true the worst thing one can due is starve because once night time c9mes you'll just stuff your face both with regret and food 😔
As someone who wrote her share of product descriptions while freelancing, those descriptions were...doing a lot to sell so little. They reminded me of the times when I had a word count to meet, but it was late at night, I was tired, and I just wanted to be done with writing about things I'd never actually tried or thought sounded less than great.
Your signature calm and wholesome narration while making the shakes gave me the same vibe of when a child is singing Frère Jacques as the background of a tragedy in a horror film
What really interests me about those descriptions as an English major is that they all include promises about how the product is going to change your life, like "eat this product and seize the day," etc. I think this ties in with the emphasis on selling a lifestyle rather than a product. It's basically promising this dream life that you'll get somehow by eating these meals! And it's kind of like a motivational speech hidden in a product description. Fascinating. Thanks, Hannah, for all the work you do to expose these scammy and predatory companies and how dangerous their products and mind-control tactics are!
Hannah NOOOOOO! And now you have one angry fetus 🤣😭. ETA: I also didn’t hate the coffee shake thing. When I tried Optavia I also had the mint coffee shake and I actually kind of liked it. It was the only thing I looked forward to 😅.
I love CC, I love Savanna, and Isabella but you are my favorite! That’s simply for the fact that I can put your video up on the tv while I clean and you don’t cuss or use vulgar language so it’s safe for my children’s ears as they come in and out of the living room. ❤
Omg i was thinking exactly this, i listen to videos while i clean and i basically only listen to her videos while my son is awake because she’s the only youtuber i like that i can trust won’t be swearing every 30 seconds!
I don't watch CC because of how judgmental she was to Channon Rose, and I haven't watched Savanna much. I love Isabella, but my kiddo is a teen, so it's not a big deal. I do love Hannah though. Possibly my favourite...my top 3 are Hannah, Isabella and Jessica. I also watch JJ and Erin.
I has gastric bypass in 2017. I could have seen myself falling for this. Knowing what I know now, this is absolutely insane. I consumed 1200 calories a day after my surgery and lost 130 lbs. Also, too much protein can mess up your kidneys! THIS IS SO DANGEROUS!
I've had a few friends who had bariatric surgery and were required to do a liquid diet for a month prior to their surgical dates, and at least a month post-op. I bet their docs were pushing this brand on people.
I literally saw the title and screamed "DON'T DO IT!" When I was on Optavia (an unfortunate six months of my life, but I DID lose weight, and have kept it off), the only foods I could handle were the shakes. I'm on a medication that makes everything taste like metal, so the shakes basically had no taste, but I could get their texture fairly smooth. I tried SO MANY of the bars and heated foods, but the textures were all over the place and made me want to gag. Not to mention the fact that everything tastes like metal (thanks meds - but I have a friend who made the same complaint who is not on the meds I'm on). My oncologist found out I was on Optavia and wanted me off of it IMMEDIATELY, even though I had lost weight. He wanted me on Boost, shakes only. The cost didn't even change all that much (it went down a little, in fact). I'm still losing weight on Boost, just not as fast, but I have so much more energy. Then again, the Boost meal system my DOCTOR developed for me is high nutrient with low calorie, while Optavia is just literal starvation. It' not even nutrient rich, which is something my "coach" blatantly lied to me about.
This is too funny! We had a few people in our church doing this program & my husband asked one ladies husband...how have you lost weight? For which the husband looked around & quietly answered...I'm eating DIRT!!!! 🤣He said the Optivia products were HORRIBLE!!! The original lady who started the program has maintained her weightloss, but she never really had a weight problem to begin wwith. The others who followed her have since regained their weight back. Thank you for the video! ❤️
23:02 LMAO Zeke's reaction is priceless. And yes, that weird grainy texture is normal for instant mashed potatoes. My spouse and I basically lived on them for a long while when he was in between jobs because instant potatoes + water + a vegetable was a fast, easy, and (reasonably) nutritious meal we could buy VERY cheap in bulk, unlike Kraft dinners.
Poor Zeeke was appalled that you willingly subjected yourself to the "food" from Optavia. Thanks for doing this for us so we don't have to!! Sending condolences to your tastebuds 😂
Aside from the fact that it's an MLM, of course, the huge issue I see with Optavia is that it's a starvation diet that never teaches you how to eat in a healthy way or addresses your underlying relationship with food, so there's no way anyone can be expected to leave the program and be successful. And it's hard for me to believe that's not completely by design. Any worthwhile weight-loss program, or coach/trainer, will not be trying to sell you specific, specialized foods or drinks you have to buy to be successful. They will be teaching you all about the appropriate portions, calories, fat/protien/carb/ratios, exercise, how to shop and cook etc. They should be giving you an arsenal of education and tools so that you can maintain a weight YOU feel comfortable with for the rest of your life without buying another specialized, over-processed diet product ever again.
The anticipation of his video was only of the only things that mentally got me through what was one of the worst weekends ever (one of my pets passed extremely unexpectedly).
omg I'm so sorry 😢 I lost my (pet) boy 6 months ago and I still miss him like crazy. it wasn't a surprise but it definitely happened faster than what the vets kept telling us. this just breaks my heart. sending you lots of love and virtual hugs. 💜
Can we mention how none of those foods look like how they are in the product photos. I know they aren't gonna look that great but i don't even think it was close. Also I'll bet you maybe like one dollar that some huns are gonna try to use this video to say Hannah uses Optavia lol cause there's such a high chance they'll take it outta context so far they're in outer space
I had the same thoughts about the pictures. I know marketing pictures are never completely like the real thing, but that coffee soft serve was nowhere near as dark as the picture showed and the cookie didn't get brown at all.
As a former customer, I was reliving the taste of the smoothie and mashed potatoes with you. Can confirm your conclusions on those foods. Also, for me it was the aftertaste that got stronger and stronger the longer I was on it, till it was somehow all I could taste. Towards the end I would just cry as I was so sick of the taste I didn’t even want to eat. Can also confirm, it F’d up my relationship with food, right into an ED, and the loss of my gallbladder. It is such a damaging way of life. Thank you for continuing to talk out about this. I hope that someone looking into this “diet” will see this video and run SCREAMING!
it can be easy to convince yourself that diet food like this or all types of weird ED food taste good when you’re literally starving, but i can’t say adding half a scoop of unflavored protein powder to everything sounds appetizing. that really affects the texture too
I was gonna say, probably the true experience is trying this crap after a week or so of starving yourself, so your body’s so desperate for food it’ll make anything taste acceptable./s
Yepp I was thinking this too.. at one point when I was active in my ED I would suck on packets of Splenda.. like through the paper.. not even eating the Splenda on anything to by itself 🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️ and it was amazing at the time. If you let yourself get that hungry weird foods taste good
The fact that someone was willing to give you all of these should have told us all we need to know 😝 However, I sit a lot during the day and I have trouble with my legs swelling, so I did try Optavia a few years ago. The fuelings I liked were the vanilla and chocolate (mixed them) shakes and the cinnamon swirl cake that was like the chocolate chip cookie one. I usually undercooked the chocolate chip cookie so it felt more 'decadent' or eating cookie dough. The potatoes were so gross IMO and I love sour cream and chives generally. I lost weight, but it is not a sustainable thing, as you said. It's not sustainable because I wanted a real meal more often that I was getting. When I would tell my coach my legs were still swelling and I got lightheaded during the day sometimes, I was told to drink more water...and I realized the fuelings have more sodium than I should've been eating, so the water was to flush out the sodium, supposedly. Plus, you pay for a full month at a time. Financially, I couldn't afford to keep going. Then, when I stopped the program, I gained all my weight back plus some because I was never taught any better habits. I love veggies and such, but I also love sweets, so it's sometimes hard to balance. My advice: Every person's body is different and needs are different. Go to a nutritionist. If you are told specifically NOT to exercise before you try a plan like this, DON'T sign up. These are fad diets, not a lifestyle change and they are NOT sustainable, by any means of the word.
I am loving this video. It reiterates the fact that Anti MLM content creators don’t just hate the products and now you can say that you tried them. And giving honest feedback! granted….MLM Huns will still complain that you are biased. But thank you for this video….very enjoyable!
This whole video made me feel like we were hanging out! And Zeke's reaction was amazing. Thank you for being an amazing human! Keep fighting the good fight 😄
24:39 Ah, yes, I always daydream that I'm walking through Italy with a bag of knock-off diet Cheetos. I can practically see myself on a gondola ride as I gaze at this sad bag of strange edible styrofoam.
Thank you for sacrificing your taste buds for this. If anyone is looking for tasty but healthier snacks I suggest black bean chocolate spread and black bean brownies. They actually taste good, are more filling than regular chocolate snacks, and have a good amount of your daily iron. I just made some and they were both so good. The recipes I used are from chocolate covered katie I highly recommend them. Also way cheaper than anything you'd get from an mlm!
I have a couple of friends that are in this "business". One of them tried to pitch me, before i knew it was an MLM, and said it would cut my grocery bill and when she told me the cost (first thing I asked her). OMG!! It would more than double it and I cook from scratch. When she wouldn't go into more detail I did research it because I was trying to figure out why she/they wouldn't tell me more and I figured out the caloric intake AND the MLM aspect of it. Both of the friends are still in it. Both lost a ton of weight VERY quickly, and now they can't eat normally because they gain weight back and they cut out the physical activities that they enjoyed because they don't have energy. Thanks for taking one for the team, I never had any desire to taste any of the items.
I am so sad for your friends. I shared my story in the comments. You absolutely have to stay on the plan or you will gain it back. And you are right, you can NOT exercise. I was too weak.
Omg. You’re pregnant! I havent been watching your videos in order. I have been watching them based on how spicy the title sounds. You look great. Congratulations. 🎉
Hannah: I read the instructions and there’s nothing that could harm me or my baby. My husband: to be fair, I don’t think an MLM company would be honest about their ingredients. 😂 Thank you for your sacrifice Hannah, we appreciate you ❤
I was distracted by the cute baby bump while you were "cooking". And you are positively glowing girl! I'd have definitely wanted to try Optavia when I was in the thick of an eating disorder. But it'd have been a no go. I couldn't afford to even give slimfast an honest try.
As someone struggling with eating at times (as in, literally not eating for days because of depression), I can tell you that getting way too little calories into your body is definitely not gonna make you feel good, and I feel like some people might think "If getting this little calories made me lose x kg of weight, I'm gonna lose even less if I start eating even less"... (btw, you are probably gonna get diarrhea and cramps if you're not eating for extended periods of time, so that's definitely not something to look forward to)
Zeke's reaction was awesome! He thought he wanted in on this taste-test, and now he thinks you are crazy! Lol! So glad you are feeling better and getting to enjoy being pregnant. You look amazing, by the way!!
The belly!! So cute! I loved this style. Loved the field trip too. ☺️ This MLM is really sad, as eating at this kind of caloric deficit is not healthy or sustainable. Thanks for continuing to expose these companies! And being brave enough to try the disgusting food.
I made instant mashed potatoes quite a lot when I was in college and lived in the dorms for all four years. Maybe it was the brand I bought, but I don’t remember any gritty feeling and there was a fair bit of smoothness to it. My vote is that it’s the Optavia product and not necessarily true of all instant mashed potatoes
I've made instant mashed potatoes, and agree that they were never gritty (Bob's Red Mill). I bet it's due to how those mashed potatoes were processed, that they are gritty and unpleasant.
I did "Take Shape For Life", or optivia for a couple of months. I have anorexia with bulimic tendencies so it was a train wreck to start with. Of course I lost weight. It was 500 calories a day. It was awful. The food was terrible. I literally lived off of the cookie and brownies. The rest of it sat in my pantry for years because they were so gross, especially the Mac and cheese and chili. Eventually I stopped ordering and ghosted my "coach". She called me once and I was dumb enough to answer. She talked about how I needed to not exercise and I needed to just stick with the program to feel better. I was at a burger joint stuffing my face with fries when she called. So I am an optivia failure 🙃
I was eating my moms delicious, creamy, homemade mashed potatoes while you tried those “mashed potatoes”. And I really was just beyond grateful and enjoyed them so much 🤣 also, I felt very bad that you had to do this pregnant and hope it didn’t cause you any nausea or anything! Either way, thank you so much for this extremely entertaining, yet also very educational video!
This is my first time here. I'm so glad I find your channel 🙂 My dad got into MLM 15 years ago and in that time he forced it to everyone, spoke about it every second and worshiped the system and products. It was excruciating for his loved ones and he lost many friends because of that 😞 MLM is are straight forward cults! After few years he realized it is not so flashy and sparkly and slowly he started to see the dark side of it. Now it's just a sad chapter of his life and he is moving on. I am glad, some people end up much worse.
Wow, this was just shocking to say the least. She definitely took one for the team. ❤️ I love hearing about those enchiladas though because I actually didn't want to gag. Lol
Loved this video and the fact you risked your GI track for US! YOUR BRAVERY DESERVES A MEDAL!!!! All jokes aside a think my cat gets more calories a day then this "fueling" plan. As a person who suffers greatly daily with illnesses due to a GASTRIC RNY BYPASS almost years ago and due to a few complications from surgeries ( 17 since 2019) and completely lost my stomach just thinking about these " feelings are triggering. This company needs to be stopped it's going to cause so many long term effects on the body from it thinking its in starvation mode. I got down to 89lbs from 280 in months and ended hospitalized the same day I saw a specialist for the 1st time he said to my face and my mom "you're going to die you have a few weeks left and your kids will have no mother". I know surgery and these diets are different but malnutrition is NO JOKE it can destroy your life. I've lived the past 3 years in he'll but I'm alive. I just can't enjoy food any more😥 if it seems to good to be true it probably is ! Love your content congratulations on the baby!!
I LOVE your channel. I’ve tried other anti-MLMers, but yours is my fave! I love the way you present your info and that you use clean language because then I can watch them sometimes around my toddler who is quickly turning into a parrot. I did Optavia about seven years ago when it was still Medifast. And it worked too! I lost 40 pounds in about five months and was the smallest I’ve ever been. I looked great and felt great, and people started looking at me differently sadly enough. My supervisor was very appearance-focused and suddenly started giving me opportunities she never had before. I was going on more dates and that’s when I met my ex-husband, likely as a result of my smaller body. In any case, things are drastically different for me now. I did gain the weight back abs then some. It took me 2+ years to get back into exercise again (something I’ve always loved and tried to do regularly) and I don’t feel it helped me create healthy habits. The fuelings were really gross, btw. There’s actually a website where someone has created recipes specifically to make them more palatable. In any case, thanks for a great video!
I was so excited to see this when it popped up on my feed! I've most enjoyed your horror stories in the past, but this was such a fun and engaging way of getting the message out there. I love how you talked about the down sides of doing these programs (like always). I'm also very relieved to find out that you were given them instead of them being thrown out, I was worried at first that you had bought them. Thanks so much for this.
I had a coworker who did this when it was still called MediFast and now my SIL is using it. Saw the coworker gain all the weight back and then some. The same is going to happen to my SIL, I’m sure, especially because she drinks a TON of wine and hasn’t given that up during her Optavia “journey”
I might have tried medifast "food". I had a neighbour who had tried that or something very similar. She put a big bag of the stuff by the mailboxes with a "free" sign on it. I figured food is food, so I grabbed it. Well, food may be food, but whatever that was, I don't think calling it food is correct. It went in the trash. It was inedible.
as someone who doesn't drink that never made any sense to me. my mom has tried regular (non-mlm) diet fads ocer the years and will restrict ANYTHING BUT wine lmao and she'll complain about how many calories it is and im like how hard is it to just have less wine!!!??? arghh!! but then again i dont even think my mom needs to diet i think she should eat however she feels is healthy for her but she never listens :(
My mom did MediFast and lost 50lbs. As soon as she stopped eating their food she gained back 70lbs. Watching this made me think of that. People don’t realize how unsustainable this is but they just want the quick fix
Hi Hannah. My comments are going to be mostly non-mlm related. I love your anti-mlm content and listen to it with every new upload you make. So, thank you so much. Your approach is rational, doesn't pad your viewership with kitsch-y intros designed to get us to like you. You come as you are, you are yourself, no affectation. And you're wicked smart while very humble. I just love you. I never feel talked down to or pandered to. You are so likeable just being yourself. Now to what really pulled at my heart in this video. I've had a weight problem all my life. Now in my early 60s, I have a few orthopedic health issues that getting more weight off would help with. Yet I have a severe sweet tooth and there are zero viable alternatives to sugar that are tolerable to me. Well, two years ago now, I got really frightened and cut out all sugar, went on a severe calorie restrictive food plan, replacing breakfast and lunch with a protein smoothy and then eating the balance of my 900 calories in a homemade meal, weighed, measured, etc. I lost 70 lbs in 6 months, with still 40 or so lbs to go to hit my goal. But I ran out of steam. Over the last year and a half, I've added back sugar, breakfast and lunch, stopped weighing and measuring and calorie counting. And I've gained back 30-40 lbs. I honestly won't step on the scale because I can tell how much I've gained by the fit of my clothing. I'm sharing this because I really appreciate how you address calorie restrictive food plans as a dangerous and counterproductive approach to weight loss. As my experience exemplifies, these restrictive plans only triggered eventual relapse and binging, and I was under doctor approval and supervision for what I was doing. I also really appreciated you speaking about serving sizes that you prepare and eat. I honestly feel ashamed at 62 that I want to eat normal. I have spent a lifetime being told that normal isn't for me if I want to lose weight and maintain the loss. Weight loss is more challenging for me because of my orthopedic issues. I cannot exercise without worsening my knees, my back, and exacerbating an old ankle injury. I'm so grateful that you exposed the restrictive nature of Optavia. I apologize for commenting so off topic, but listening to you just really touched me and I wanted you to know how much your content and your approach mean to me. God bless you. -Robin
I'm not Hannah, obviously, but I just wanted to acknowledge your thoughtful comment and say that I fully agree with you that Hannah is a refreshingly real and unpretentious RUclipsr that also possesses a high degree of emotional intelligence as well as book smarts.
I'm glad you didn't actually try the diet! Brianna Jewel did (though she didnt have all the flavours you did) and she hated every second of it. I cant imagine trying it while pregnant. Also, I learned about optivia through Amberlynn Reid. I remember her dining room table being covered in these packets, which is just even more surprising seeing how small they are when you hold them in your hand.
These types of videos are a really good addition to the channel! Giving a first person perspective into the quality of mlm products can be really beneficial!!
I have a friend who got sucked into Optavia because someone preyed on his body insecurities and desire to lose weight. It's heartbreaking to me that he posts on social media about it when I know he's not learning any actual useful information about health and nutrition.
I'm not a nutritionist but I have invested in taking classes on nutrition from nutritionist and it's so important to understand that you need protein... AND CARBS AND FAT! Eating nothing but high protein items affects your body and mind in many ways. Not to mention, it's nasty. There is a reason that foods have their proportions of all those macronutrients, it's because of how they work together to provide sustainable fuel and building blocks for life. If you are reading this. Please Don't do diets like this please. You are beautiful as you as are and if you have to starve yourself and live in the punishing prison of protein misery to be your ideal weight then consider reevaluating. Is your weight/appearance more important than your health and happiness?
Poor baby 😭 as a fellow expecting momma I couldn’t do this in pregnancy! Hope your tummy feels ok afterwards 💜🙏🏻 Edited to add: ughh my 3rd trimester indigestion is worsening just from seeing you brave these bites 🤢 you have my sympathy!
Thank you Hannah for doing this! This makes me so sad for my friends that are currently under the influence of the Optavia "program", this confirms that things are so much worse than I thought.
With Thanksgiving around the corner...I want to defend the instant mash potatoes. The ones that you cook on the stovetop are good. Plenty of flavors. Just mix it well.
Personally I'd love the idea of pre-planned meals, that sounds like less stress for me (as someone who hates cooking and frequently forgets what I have in!) But it's just not enough in one serving, and I too hate the taste of protein powder
Whoever sent this all to you is a complete gem! Highly entertained. Way to take 1 for the team. I just couldn't & wouldn't have even tried to taste anything. The word fuellings is so condescending. Zeke reactions say it all. Baby bump cameo! 😍🥰
I mean, it’s a starvation diet. Your assessment of your coach was probably accurate.
Props to the person who wrote those fuelling descriptions. They were really doing the most 😂
😂😂😂😂😂
The absolute most hahaha
Weren’t they just 😂😂
In a certain respect, that's why I believed Hannah when she said how horrible the fuelings were.
I am dead 😂😂😂
When Hanna takes a bite of the “chili”, she looks like she is going to cry… and then you see all of her life choices pass before her eyes and question everything that lead her to this moment.
I kind of felt bad that she made herself eat that. It looked so unappetizing! Same with those crunchers. Zeke is smart to take off!
The "chili" is awful. I was on Optavia off and on for three years. I ate the "chili" more than once too.
Yeah, the chili is gross. All their savory ones are. I could only eat the sweet things when I was on it (lost weight, but once stopped it’s all back).
She looked like she was going to cry before even trying them, probably just at the thought of their taste lol
I want you to know that I watched this while eating a Baconator with absolutely no guilt or regrets 😂
Omg! I love a Baconator! That’s like probably my favorite burger EVER! Have you had the breakfast one yet? It’s delicious too! I just get it minus the egg
I was watching with a full plate of thanksgiving leftovers 😂
😂😂😂
My hairstylist and I were talking about this diet. She said she had a client whom was doing the diet and had come in for a cut. She went to wash the clients hair and noticed her hair falling out. Worried , she asked if she was ill or had to take a different medication. The client said no, she was doing the Optavia diet. This diet is so restrictive on calories that causes hair loss from malnutrition. This diet needs to be taken off the market immediately.
That breaks my heart for her client. I really hope she stops soon and goes back to normal food.
So Optavia and Monat both cause hair loss. Pretty sure every MLM causes hair loss in some way, probably mostly from stress
Also not getting enough protein will especially do that.
I destroyed my thyroid on this diet...
Thank you for sacrificing your taste buds for our entertainment
She sacrificed a lot of bowls and cups LOL.
@@summerdowlig You're right. Will she be able to clean that concoction of "chili" off her bowl? I really like those bowls so it makes me sad.
@@summerdowlig I am not sure that chili bowl will ever be the same again. 😉
Hannah is the real MVP
The worst part of Optavia besides the fact that it is training people to eat far too little and trash their metabolism, is that they are making people eat overpriced packaged food rather than healthy simple meals they can make themselves. There is a new line at my grocery store in the medical section with very similar meals, bars, and shakes that is a fraction of the price.
And why pay a minimum of 300 a month when you can just supplement homemade meals with regular protein bars and shakes to get your protein in? Still so much cheaper.
Also teaching people to only eat sweets and treats all day long 😅
All while messing up your relationship with food.
I've always thought that "fuelings" makes it sound like they're in a post-apocalyptic world like The Hunger Games where everyone is rationed out food because they don't have enough supply to meet demand 🤐
Same!
If you aren’t full after eating that, you can always have a pickle spear or cup of sugar free jello to fill you up! Lol
Omg yep, or like in Snow Piercer! With the bug jello 😳
THAT'S the description I've been looking for! I've been trying to put into words why "fuelings" sounds so wrong, and that's it. It's like an alternate word for rations, but worse 😂
Soylent Green
@@hannnnnah6520 OK, thank you for the reply!
I have limited my eating to a time period. I eat between 9 am and 5 pm. I do low carb. I lost 55 lbs in 10 months. My doctor was so pleased. I think not eating after 5 pm is what helped my weight loss.
A box of the Optavia cookies is $23.24 which is almost 6x more expensive than a package of Chips Ahoy cookies.
Right!!! Definitely agree
Maybe it's some legal/liability thing where they can't technically call it 'food'.
I commend your commitment to this video because there is no way in hell I would've taken a bite of that chili 💀
Right?! 🤢
I loved Zeke's reaction to sniffing the mashed potatoes 🤣 that told me everything I needed to know
Came here to say this 🤣🤣
Yes!! Zeke's unfiltered, honest 'review' was gold
Ha! Yea. He didn’t even want that stuff LOL
Took him a long time to decide it wasn't food, like he was simultaneously intrigued and confused.
Even IF she was "lying" about her reviews, that reaction was the most genuine, real telling thing. Hah!
No amount of money could make me eat that but as someone who has spent a lot of years working in real marketing, not network marketing, I want to meet the person that wrote those product descriptions because damn… they were actually some seriously impressive nonsense.
Na I could probably do it if I was offered enough money (bar the chilli. Nothing is worth the chilli)
The Mac and cheese is the WORST!!!! I did optavia 2 years ago.
You had me at "soak it over night" like whattt?!! 🤣🤣😭
That's terrifying
Huns don't want to lose their income source...
As someone who uses instant mashed potatoes and sometimes even makes them in the microwave, they've never been gritty or sandy-feeling or anything. I made this face 😬 the whole time I watched this video, lol. Thanks for taking one for the team!
I love instant mash potato!!! And yeap it’s always smooth and creamy and I put butter in it!!😊😊😊😊
I love them too. But I’m the only one in my family who does so I rarely make it
Ditto mashed potatoes are awesome. Not that gross stuff.
We love instant mashed potatoes! Always smooth and creamy.
I grew up on instant potatoes. They were never gritty.
I have to say, I think your channel is the only one that makes me want to drop everything to watch the newest video.
Same! There have even been times where I’ve been in the middle of watching someone else’s video, see that Hannah uploaded, and didn’t even finish the other one before starting Hannah’s
Dude same!!!!! I'm being brave to watch it while having lunch, lmaoooo this stuff look disgustang
Me too! Saw this one and I had to drop everything and watch!
Same here! She’s just the best! I get so excited when I get a post notification!
Watching Hannah’s videos feels like hanging out with a friend!
These things are so freaking harmful and I appreciate it you talking about it
You unlocked another fear.... brain trauma weight gain!! 😢 hoping you're healthy now
The fact that Zeke didn’t even try to sneak a bite made me crack up.
I've always wondered what it tasted like, but I never wanted to try it out and risk getting pitched at
Are they there so employees do try them, or are they his for throughout the day? Wondering if he buys so much to rank.
I actually wasn't miserable, but much of what they offered was disgusting.
@@Deangirl86 well I am glad you weren't miserable! I guess I feel I personally would be lol
Can confirm was miserable when I did this lmao
Miserable is 100% the correct word. I did Optivia for 1 week and I have never been more miserable in my life.
Side note: I lost 8 pounds in that one week. I went on Weight Watchers the day after quitting Optivia and gained 5 pounds back almost immediately. Not meant for the long haul!
This stuff is so bad, even Zeke was crying, trying to save you LOL
Edit: your baby bump looks so cute!! May you stay happy and healthy!
“In conclusion, No just No” 😂 Also, Zeke was saying “don’t do it Mama!! That’s not real food & baby won’t like it.” 🤣
I am really glad you addressed concerns.
I have binge eating disorder. Trying to follow any of these diets would send me into a binge within the first day.
I'd last a week then eat everything in my kitchen 😭
I watched you put yourself through that! Thanks for what you do.
You and Hannah can make shirts saying "I survived Optavia Fuelings 2022" now!
Not only that, but she’s SO eloquent and compassionate with her language.
Yes! The joys of clean and appropriate language 👏🏻🙌🏻
😂😂😂
I don't watch CC because of how judgmental she was to Channon Rose, and I haven't watched Savanna much. I love Isabella, but my kiddo is a teen, so it's not a big deal. I do love Hannah though. Possibly my favourite...my top 3 are Hannah, Isabella and Jessica. I also watch JJ and Erin.
So funny how interested in the potatoes Zeke was, but he quickly turned his nose up at the "chili". 😹💖
The way he licked his lil lips after like “nah brah” too😂.
That’s hilarious!
Oh my goodness I am so sorry to hear that. Thinking of you and sending you love ❤
omg I'm so sorry 😢 I lost my (pet) boy 6 months ago and I still miss him like crazy. it wasn't a surprise but it definitely happened faster than what the vets kept telling us. this just breaks my heart. sending you lots of love and virtual hugs. 💜
Nooooo!!! I lost my baby of ten years this year. Hugs. I feel you.
So sorry to hear that 😔.
Same happened to me this last July. Sending ❤️
The descriptions of fuelings brought me back to trying to hit word count deadlines in undergrad.
Zeke is over here trying to save his mom from her imminent doom in this taste test.
it can be easy to convince yourself that diet food like this or all types of weird ED food taste good when you’re literally starving, but i can’t say adding half a scoop of unflavored protein powder to everything sounds appetizing. that really affects the texture too
I was gonna say, probably the true experience is trying this crap after a week or so of starving yourself, so your body’s so desperate for food it’ll make anything taste acceptable./s
Today is my first day at my new job and I couldn’t have asked for a better video to listen to while getting ready. Thank you! 😂♥️
And you know you'll be working for a legitimate business and getting paid for your time!! 🤣👏
Good luck with your new job
Congrats and good luck at your new job! 😊
Good luck today 😊
Have a great day at work!! 💜
I was HOWLING with laughter as Hannah read the chili description while showing off the cursed chili orb.
These sound so good, thank you for the recommendation!
You know its bad when even the cats looks disgusted by the smell and runs aways so you dont force him to eat, whatever monstrosity that is 😁
I have a couple of friends that are in this "business".
The audacity they have to include the word "enjoy" in the instructions.
Omg. You’re pregnant! I havent been watching your videos in order. I have been watching them based on how spicy the title sounds. You look great. Congratulations. 🎉
Amazed you did this with the recent food aversions you've had! Brave!
Fr
Hannah: I read the instructions and there’s nothing that could harm me or my baby.
My husband: to be fair, I don’t think an MLM company would be honest about their ingredients.
😂
Thank you for your sacrifice Hannah, we appreciate you ❤
This comment aged like wine (the whole drug tests scandal)
@@debymello4756 excuse me WHHHAAAATT
This MLM is really sad, as eating at this kind of caloric deficit is not healthy or sustainable.
If anything, the instant mashed potatoes I've made have felt *too* smooth.
I am glad, some people end up much worse.
even the cat is like THIS IS SUS MOM DONT EAT IT this vid made me laugh so much
Zeke was so offended by those potatoes 🤣
Wow, this was just shocking to say the least. She definitely took one for the team. ❤️ I love hearing about those enchiladas though because I actually didn't want to gag. Lol
Even Zeke is all, "Mom, I'm questioning your life choices" 🤢
you always do the most when it comes to due diligence and maintaining accessible communication, you’re killing it queen!! glad youre back! :)
Briannah Jewel's review of Optavia is just as informative and entertaining. Thank you :) on form as usual ♡
@@beckiehubley5798 I can believe it. I remember the office I shared with my coworker smelled awful when she would have hers
as someone who doesn't drink that never made any sense to me. my mom has tried regular (non-mlm) diet fads ocer the years and will restrict ANYTHING BUT wine lmao and she'll complain about how many calories it is and im like how hard is it to just have less wine!!!??? arghh!! but then again i dont even think my mom needs to diet i think she should eat however she feels is healthy for her but she never listens :(
My mom did MediFast and lost 50lbs. As soon as she stopped eating their food she gained back 70lbs. Watching this made me think of that. People don’t realize how unsustainable this is but they just want the quick fix
I lost 95 lbs on Optavia and gave gained 75 lbs back. It is mentally and emotionally devastating. I hope you SIL does not have the same experience.
Just started watching, but I LOVE that sweatshirt on you. Such a pretty color!
Okay, back to the video now...
Omg the baby bump is SO adorable.. you are the cutest pregnant 🤰 mama .
Yes! Here to watch before I even got the notification. I have been waiting since my coworker is on Optavia and I've always wondered what she eats.
😂 I had a good laugh at your cat smelling the food especially the last one where he smelled it and almost grimaced and pulled away 😂
I have been waiting for this video ever since I saw the IG stories of this and you did not let me down, amazing video as always!!
Bless, I love that your subs are so concerned for you and your baby 🥰 good people all round here 💖
“are we at dairy queen” 🤣🤣 i died
Poor baby 😭 as a fellow expecting momma I couldn’t do this in pregnancy! Hope your tummy feels ok afterwards 💜🙏🏻
Edited to add: ughh my 3rd trimester indigestion is worsening just from seeing you brave these bites 🤢 you have my sympathy!
your videos are the only ones that I keep on replay when being productive at home!!
This was highly entertaining and informative. You’re a trooper, Hannah!
Loved getting a glimpse of your adorable baby bump while you were in the kitchen! Congrats on the pregnancy!
Watching your reactions to the red bean chilli was an absolute roller coaster!! Thank you xx.
Personally I'd love the idea of pre-planned meals, that sounds like less stress for me (as someone who hates cooking and frequently forgets what I have in!) But it's just not enough in one serving, and I too hate the taste of protein powder
Being a widow who lives alone, I barely cook. I would love a good meal delivered 3 times a day because I don't take time to eat well.
I ate a burger and fries while watching this. I regret nothing. 🤣
Whoever sent this all to you is a complete gem! Highly entertained. Way to take 1 for the team. I just couldn't & wouldn't have even tried to taste anything. The word fuellings is so condescending. Zeke reactions say it all. Baby bump cameo! 😍🥰
I adore you ! This was such a fun video and you took a chance on making it ! You’re great ❤
