- TEAM SGG PATREON / somegadgetguy RUclips is pretty terrible at notifications. We can fix that! Using an old bit of tech called an RSS reader, we can subscribe to blogs, websites, AND RUclips channels! It's really easy, and you'll never miss posts from your favorite channels again!

#youtube #rss #tutorial
I've been using rss for decades and not once I've thought to use it with RUclips. This is going to be my new project
DO IT!
I was literally thinking about going full RSS the other day. Thank you so much for this. This was how I used to subscribe to podcasts.
There's a vibe in the air right? All the social media manipulation, sometimes it's just nice to revisit old school internetting.
I love this video. One of my favorites of yours. It is one thing to be frustrated by 'the way things is', but it is another to come up with a solution to point people toward to actually solve the problem. And I love the shout out to open source. I have found myself increasingly moving in that direction as the only way of pushing back against the tide of enshittification swamping everything.
But Juan, I watched one review of a coffee pot and now RUclips doesn't know what to put in front of my eyeballs. I love James Hoffman but I don't just want his content all the time
Thank you for this.
I don't even remember the last time I even saw your videos recommended through my RUclips feed.
YT buries medium sized channels like mine. I basically only use YT as free server storage now.
I think the guy, in the lower left of the thumbnail, looks familiar. I used to use an RSS reeder for my favorite tech websites. Didn't know you could use one for video content. Learning something new, every day.
It's the only way I really get reliable notifications. 👍
I love this! Thanks for sharing.
This is awesome thanks for this. My strategy was leaving the youtube subscription tab open and scrolling through the new videos uploaded since I last checked.
Better notifications help 👍
Pretty cool, thanks for the video juan.👍
This is great, man! Hope you're doin' well! Thank you for this! Forgot about RSS! Oh man, it's been a while.
Hey Kyle! All good on this side. Hope you've been well!
1. I will always appreciate an intro that is motivated by bender on the moon.
2. THANK YOU FOR THIS. I've been meaning to use something like feeder for this exact reason. The pixel fold is used for this exact purpose as well. If it works out? I might give my one plus open a chance to try this out.
I've been using that line from bender A LOT lately...
@@SomeGadgetGuy check your threads in a sec...
Man I haven't taught about RSS in ages. I'll check Feeder out and add you first in my feed, so you'll be "my first" in something! 😂
I APPROVE!
😁
This is a really useful tool, Juan!
It's fun using a little "old web" tech.
Thank you for the video
That's actually very useful, thank you ❤
😎👍
Thanks Cranky Old Guy
Hi Juan, would you mind reviewing your older phone collection and just do a comparison that what we are missing today for the sake of Younger generation?
I've always enjoyed dabbling with older phones, but right now YT is just burying all my videos, and it's not worth the effort for public videos that no one watches or shares. I'll probably start doing a series on Patreon just for fun.
@@SomeGadgetGuy I get it. What I thought was that the kids those days like early 2010s were like 10 is almost 20 now so for them experience will be very fresh. Just letting my thoughts out.
Be careful. They might come for you like Louis Rossman
Oh YT doesn't give a lick about my channel LOL.
Super Genius 👍🏼
This is cool. Can it sync across multiple devices (for those of us crazy to do things like that)?
There is a tool built in for sync that scans a QR code to set up multi-device, but i honestly just export opml files and transfer that way.
Doesn't the "algorithm" just affect people that don't follow you. Like if I search "best phone reviews" maybe it will show apple/samsung first. But if I'm already subscribed, you appear in my subscription list. I just click on your channel name and can see all of your videos in order from latest to oldest (which is annoying if I want to watch from the beginning in order). How is doing an RSS feed better? it seems the same.
I want to be notified about new videos from the channels I follow. Those are my friends, and rarely do I get those alerts in a timely fashion from RUclips.
Who wants to go manually checking for new videos to watch? What is this? The 1990's?
@@SomeGadgetGuy The channel name is highlighted when there is a new video. That's how I knew to go watch your video. Also, I'm only subscribed to like a dozen channels so it's not that hard for me. There's a subscriptions tab. I assume this combines all the subscribed channels together and sorts them from latest to oldest. Maybe not?
Grayjay
I do use it. While I'm hugely impressed with it, I never been able to get any notification for new upload.
Also, this isn't about RUclips replacement as a whole. This is about notification for new uploads.
Anyone know if this can be done for social media post too? I hate all the other stuff that comes up on feeds when i just want to see what my friends and family are doing.
Not as consistently easily no. Most social media sites are trying to ratchet down how their content can be viewed from outside their site or app.
Can this be done on iOS as well? 😁
I'm sure there's a reader to do it, but I don't know about a good simple FOSS solution.
Net News Wire is a great option for Apple devices.
