    Over a decade of Apple Glasses hype, and we're still pretending that AR glasses are RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER! These aren't real products yet, and we're missing incredible opportunities to make more accessible products for consumers. This is so frustrating...

Really telling what happens when you capture people's imagination. For me , I was a fan until I realized that they locked their otherwise powerful hardware for reasons for hyper profits and to me, that kinda destroyed their anti-corp campaign back when they were cosplaying a rebel company. No company is out friend and apple definitely left us on read.

      I'm really not. This is a pedantic exercise in "existence". Concept cars EXIST. They aren't real products. A physical thing called Orion EXISTS, and when a mass produced gadget makes it to market, it wont resemble Orion.
      So no. There are no rich AR solutions in sleek frames. That product doesn't exist just because a physical concept can be shown off on stage.

    • @SomeGadgetGuy
      @SomeGadgetGuy  17 часов назад

      For any future replies to this thread, I'm gonna say this and mute it because I have other stuff I need to do today.
      We've had REAL affordable HUD products that people could buy and use.
      From Google Glass to Focals by North, and Vuzix in the industrial space. Now we're playing with things like Frame and Even Realities or media glasses like Rokid and XREAL. All of these were/are practical new devices, that helped define new consumer experiences.
      Orion is not any of that.
      You would not want to own Orion in its current state.
      It's a completely moot and waste-of-time "debate" to categorize Orion as anything other than an internal laboratory test device, that will eventually become a dev kit, and maybe in another five or so years, become an EXPENSIVE first gen consumer solution.
      It kinda shows you missed the whole point of the video, how techies keep passing on real products they could afford to buy and enjoy today for the PROMISE of sci-fi that still wont work with another five years of research.
      If that's your only criteria for something being "real" then we'll never see eye-to-eye on what kinds of consumer experiences we should be highlighting.
      Enjoy your... nothing, I guess? Id rather use SOMETHING.

    Apple makes some good products but they're also overpriced... by a lot. I don't really get the hype surrounding them esp when they are anti-right-to-repair, have (up to this point) made it very difficult for third-party repair shops to service their stuff (complete with gotcha-style design choices designed to screw over the consumer), and their walled-garden app system is essentially a monopoly where all money flows to Apple. Do people **like** being food for the Corporations, 'cause that's what it feels like to me.

      It's generational marketing, and a lack of accountability. Literally since the 1984 commercial in 1984, they've been a marketing company that makes cool tech. Since Tim Cook took over, that equation has been imbalanced. The marketing side getting heavier and heavier, while the "cool tech" part has mostly been a string of failures.
      Except for M series ARM chips. That's the biggest success Apple has pulled off in a decade.

      As to the doxxing. It kinda just shows how desperate we are for better consumer protection/privacy laws. We need to make it really painful for big data companies to misstep with our info.
