Samael Merihem Gohan didn’t really want to keep fighting or training himself. It’s not Chichi that did that to him, it was his own choice, he wanted a fairly normal life with a fairly normal family.

I think this gave vegeta the fact of pride that he is the son of a king which can make anyone pretty confident and trunks being the son of royalty without knowing about his true origin can make any man lack of confident. Bulma probably told him about vegeta and how he is. And a dad not being around can make you insecure to. Pretty realistic stuff for an anime
why is "I know that I cannot do what I objectively cannot do" lack of confidence? How many times has Future Trunks fought his androids? How many times he got his ass kicked? How many times does it have to happen for the statement of "with the tools and opportunities present for him, defeating the androids is impossible" to be objectively true?
I would say that Vegeta would have not developed at all as a character. Either that, or his development would have been much more slowly, had Future Trunks not arrived.
I love it when people treat Dragon Ball as real art worth dissecting, analyzing, and evaluating and not just “TOTALLY AWESOME!” or for being that anime where everyone screams a lot. Both those things are true, but there’s some much technique to mine from Akira Toriyama’s writing (and whatever his editor may have inserted) that can be just as much benefit to us as an exploration of a traditional novel or cinematic classic. I grew up reading, watching, and playing Dragon Ball stuff. It is one of the main inspirations that made me become an artist. Dragon Ball has always meant the world to me, so the uptick of Dragon Ball analysis I’ve seen on RUclips is much appreciated.
Observation: Vegeta realized the importance the relationship of Goku's and Gohan when Gohan became SSJ2 and Goku never wavered that Gohan could do it and when Goku died for his son- showing that feelings made them stronger. When Trunks was shot by Cell, he snapped- he couldn't keep cool and pretend he didn't care because he cared- he always cared, just like Goku cared for Gohan. I said this on my twitter as well: Goku inspired Vegeta to be a father. It's just Vegeta became a better father than Goku due to Goku's example.

its a shame that future trunks got wasted in the android arc, the best moments were given to piccolo and vegita, after them gohan, then trunks, at least trunks didnt lose every fight in that arc, goku lost all three fights (19, cell, cell jr)
Macabre Enterprise not really....the whole reason Peter even thinks of being Spider-Man is because of Uncle Ben, that’s a fundamental of his origin regardless of if it’s mentioned or not
He is never explicitly mentioned, but his existence is strongly implied by Peter in a scene when he says something along the lines of "I can't put Aunt May through that again, she's been through too much." We all know what that means. That plus Uncle Ben's initials on the suitcase in Far From Home - I know fans want more references to him, but at this point we can say he existed as a character in this iteration of Spider-Man. They just seem to be avoiding involving his character too much so it doesn't feel like repeating the two previous iterations of movie Spider-Man.
You're probably right, but it's still head canon. It makes this video confusing, because Ben isn't explicitly mentioned in the movie, and if you're not paying attention you might even miss the Uncle Ben references. I agree with most of his points, but I think he could have picked a more explicit parallel, that wouldn't draw attention away from the main point of his video.
@@donovantucker5166 uncle Ben is the whole reason Peter becoms spider man in every iteration. Its just as part of his character as getting spider powers. If you have a peter parker spiderman you have a dead uncle Ben who is dead because of peters inaction.

Your videos started popping up in my recommendeds and I started watching not even knowing this is an educational series. After watching almost every video in the series, I just found the playlist they're all in and I just wanted to say that the work you're doing is superb. Without even knowing the goal was to educate the viewers, I was already taking notes and applying them to my own story. The way you explain your points, the books you quote and even the editing of the videos are spot on. To be fair, Gohan was actively trying to do things only his father liked and tried to connect to him. Which ended up biting everyone. I still think Piccolo gets Gohan the best.

I know TFS' jokes helped push this idea that goku was a terrible father and incompetent, and sure if he spent a little bit more time with his son he would've noticed that Gohan never liked fighting, but: Putting things into perspective he was around his son, then got murdered by his alien brother and that one event triggered so much conflict that he COULDN'T be a father. Afterwards, every bad thing that happened was connected to him, so while training with Gohan he wasn't thinking "Time to get to know my son" he was thinking "I gotta prepare him to take my place because what happens when I can't beat one of these guys?" so understandably he didn't notice things like that (Then when he found Uub he found someone capable of protecting everyone AND wanted to fight.) What's most important is that as soon as Goku put all the pieces together he was always supportive

Trunks was always my favorite DB character. Paradoxically, he embodies the best and worst of both sides of his heritage, each counterbalancing the other. The combat prowess and physical potential his Saiyan side endows him with is tempered by the insecurity and lack of single-minded drive for power that comes from his human side. Conversely, his attachments to other people stem from his humanity, and prevent him from realizing his full potential as a Saiyan warrior, as demonstrated by his desire to end fights quickly for the sake of saving people, rather than use them as training opportunities like a full saiyan. There is always this ideological tension between Trunks and the other protagonists of the story, making him the most compelling character imo.

Their first battle shows it: It takes everything Goku learned and trained for to even compete against him, and even so, he needs help. The reason why Goku tends to be stronger is not one of power, but one of mentality: Goku is always open to becoming better, using all sorts of innovative training and being humbled to learn from all sort of different masters. In comparison, Vegeta always had a rigid and unflexible training method, enhancing nothing but it's core power, which works, but not so much when put agains such a resourcefull fighter like Goku. Now that Vegeta finally got a master (Whis), he could, for the first time, enhance all parts that he was neglibe about, get in equal strenghts with Goku, and even surprass him in the SSJBlue aspect.
@@AgnusCavichioliPereira id say Vegeta is more of a genius than goku, but both are genius in their own rights. goku was taught by numerous renowned trainers through his life and has taken techniques from dozens of places. he didnt really develop much of anything. vegeta on the other hand has developed several techniques of his own and (outside of basic military combat arts when he was very young) has developed his own fighting style that is capable of keeping up with a master of several martial arts.
These videos make me realize the genius of many people: the genius of the those two people who discuss how to create a character, the genius of Akira Toriyama, and YOUR genius for being able to analyze things like this so well and accurately. Well done man.
He saved Goku from the clutches of Android 19. Androids 18 and 17 were unarguably delayed on their way to Goku, by his intervention. His effort allowed Gohan to win the beam struggle against Cell (in which he would've struggled even with both hands intact).

@Rikin p You are the one not thinking about it logically. 1. Perfect Cell was stronger than SSJ1 Gohan. 2. Both SSJ2 and Super Perfect are 2x power boost over their previous forms. 3. Therefore, it follows that Super Perfect Cell had to have been stronger than SSJ2 Gohan. 4. Vegeta's attack on Cell was off-guard, and we already know that in this franchise weaker characters can hurt stronger ones when they're off guard. 5. Goku himself told Gohan that he didn't lose any power after getting his arm broken. Gohan was doubting himself.

I feel like one of the reasons Vegeta's character development in the Cell saga is so overlooked is because obviously the spotlight is on the much more focused Gohan development.
Thats why imo the cell saga is the best in db, they developed every z fighter in their own unique way. And gohans ssj2 form is easily the best form ever.

I think it's interesting how the hair sort of reflects and shows differences in characters. For instance: Vegeta's hair is straight up because he is a proud prince, Trunks hair is down because he doesn't believe in himself, and Goku's is all over the place because he is a mix.
When it comes to Goku's hair, I think it might be implying how energetic and excitable he can get, and probably may be addressing how he was raised in the wilderness surrounding the mountains. I mean, his hair is pretty wild looking, no? And the way it sticks up and branches out all over the place makes me feel like it's full of energy and excitement.

Trunks just catching that giant ball that destroyed Namek was the scene that instantly made him my favourite as a kid. He had hands down the best and saddest Super saiyan transformation when Future Gohan was killed. Him absolutely wrecking 17 and 18 in the future is one of the most cathartic moments in all of Dragon ball. Also Ssj Rage may have been an asspull, but man was it amazing to see him just lose it, should have been the end of the arc there and then. Forever the coolest character for me. *My baby boy*
I must start by saying Trunks has always ALWAYS been my favorite character from Dragon Ball. The insight and even psychology behind his story and relationship with his father is incredibly dynamic! You've done a fantastic job here and my inner Saiyan thanks you!
I love how you played X vs. Zero. Both Zero and Trunks have the whole blond-haired, noble swordsman schtick and both wind up pretty much being the sole survivors in their series in one form or another. Very fitting.
Both also suffer the loss of a loved one (or in Zero's case, everyone, because Elf Wars) which sparks a change in their character (Gohan in Future Trunks' case, and Iris in Zero's case)
@@markjohnhumilde9758 Not really. The TFS Trunks has a repressed goofy side that Krillin is able to coax out with "pew pew" noises. He's also actually annoyed with the various eccentricities of the group. Sure, both traits are just played for laughs, but they make for a more ... whole character. And Vegeta comes across as a lot more believable, mostly because his canon dislike for the group is largely based on the way he's ALSO annoyed with their eccentricities. We can actually sympathize with why he feels someone like Goku is inferior to him, and why being so easily surpassed by him is so infuriating. TFS Goku just idiot-savants his way to ultimate power, while Vegeta works himself until his ribs break and still can't measure up. We also see TFS Vegeta's vulnerabilities more easily, and he's a bit less in denial about them. It's why he and Krillin have that moment after getting slapped around by Perfect Cell.
Why is it that people can't see the beauty of dragon ball's story? It's such a wonderful tale. Is it because shit isn't narrated all the time? Because there isn't a million flashbacks? Is that why people think of dragon balls story as "simple"?
Nah. The plot has as many holes as your average block of Swiss cheese... after being blasted by a shotgun. That's the first issue. Then you have the poorly written villains (Jiren comes to mind) and the insistence of tell, don't show that super has. Step outside of the nostalgia for about... 5 seconds like I did and you'll realize the show isn't the masterpiece you seem to think it is. Also, insulting people who think the show is "simple" is a terrible way to make an argument. Not only is it wrong because DB is about as by the numbers plot wise as you can get, but ignorant. Since you're assuming people who don't like it just don't "get it"

And you're even saying that Jiren is a VILLAIN? A villain is a character who's evil actions affect the protagonist. Jiren has no evil actions. He is fighting for survival of his universe. And i'll ask just this. Tell me the holes in the story. Holes that AREN'T caused by Toe studio filler scenes that Toriyama had nothing to do with.

My Favorite relationship during the Cell Saga was Trunks' relationship with all the Z-fighters. It felt like Trunks truly had family and friends by the end of the Cell Saga. I believe it was good for Trunks to see people other than Goku, Vegeta, and Gohan standing up to the Androids and Cell. Trunks got the chance to see people who were completely outmatched still stand and fight to protect the world.

Can you guys imagine if trunks went back to his timeline after the Hyper Bolic Time Chamber ( or ROSAT for the fanboys ) without helping the Z-fighters in the cell games. Trunks: "Now I have all this power I can save my own timeline. Screw you guys imma goin home"
He couldn't help in the past anymore, and he didn't, if he was smarter he would've gone back to his time, dying against Cell wouldn't save his mother, the other characters would understand, but that would've put a stop in Vegeta's development arc though.
@@MaxIronsThird I don't know, he stayed in the past to help because he didn't know Gohan or anyone could actually reach the level of perfect Cell, given that he saw him destroying Vegeta without a blink. I always appreciated how much Trunks cared for what happened in the past, since what he wanted was to never let the world become the nightmare he was forced to live in his timeline. Yes he wanted to save his mom, but ignoring the fight against Cell where Earth could have been easily destroyed (hadn't Gohan reached SS2) is not something he'd do. To me him being in Cell games and dying is perfectly justified.

Plus the power shown by Cell against Vegeta and Trunks is probably around the same level as what Goku and Gohan had when they left the RoSaT and Goku showed off his power pretty blatantly.

When Vegeta and Trunks didn't grin and flip each other off at 10:47 I did a double-take; it was so incredibly in-character in DBZA that it had completely overwritten the original scene in my memory.
Trunks had the dopest design imo Edit: I always thought him using a sword was a bit out of place thpugh. I get that its the future, but in an anime where FIST fly for the most part, some sort of futuristic KNUCKLES would've been sicker..or just make Trunks super op fron jump so he doesnt need a weapon
@@-cams. There aren't really other *heroic* characters. Goku still fights mainly for pleasure, Gohan because he has to, Vegeta is antihero, Piccolo just stopped to be in middle of the arc.

I love it when people treat Dragon Ball as real art worth dissecting, analyzing, and evaluating and not just “TOTALLY AWESOME!” or for being that anime where everyone screams a lot. Both those things are true, but there’s some much technique to mine from Akira Toriyama’s writing (and whatever his editor may have inserted) that can be just as much benefit to us as an exploration of a traditional novel or cinematic classic.
I grew up reading, watching, and playing Dragon Ball stuff. It is one of the main inspirations that made me become an artist. Dragon Ball has always meant the world to me, so the uptick of Dragon Ball analysis I’ve seen on RUclips is much appreciated.

Observation: Vegeta realized the importance the relationship of Goku's and Gohan when Gohan became SSJ2 and Goku never wavered that Gohan could do it and when Goku died for his son- showing that feelings made them stronger. When Trunks was shot by Cell, he snapped- he couldn't keep cool and pretend he didn't care because he cared- he always cared, just like Goku cared for Gohan. I said this on my twitter as well: Goku inspired Vegeta to be a father. It's just Vegeta became a better father than Goku due to Goku's example.

That plus Uncle Ben's initials on the suitcase in Far From Home - I know fans want more references to him, but at this point we can say he existed as a character in this iteration of Spider-Man. They just seem to be avoiding involving his character too much so it doesn't feel like repeating the two previous iterations of movie Spider-Man.

Goku spend 1 year with gohan in the hyperbolic time chamber and still didn't understand him.
To be fair, Gohan was actively trying to do things only his father liked and tried to connect to him. Which ended up biting everyone.

I know TFS' jokes helped push this idea that goku was a terrible father and incompetent, and sure if he spent a little bit more time with his son he would've noticed that Gohan never liked fighting, but:
Putting things into perspective he was around his son, then got murdered by his alien brother and that one event triggered so much conflict that he COULDN'T be a father. Afterwards, every bad thing that happened was connected to him, so while training with Gohan he wasn't thinking "Time to get to know my son" he was thinking "I gotta prepare him to take my place because what happens when I can't beat one of these guys?" so understandably he didn't notice things like that (Then when he found Uub he found someone capable of protecting everyone AND wanted to fight.)
What's most important is that as soon as Goku put all the pieces together he was always supportive

Trunks was always my favorite DB character. Paradoxically, he embodies the best and worst of both sides of his heritage, each counterbalancing the other. The combat prowess and physical potential his Saiyan side endows him with is tempered by the insecurity and lack of single-minded drive for power that comes from his human side. Conversely, his attachments to other people stem from his humanity, and prevent him from realizing his full potential as a Saiyan warrior, as demonstrated by his desire to end fights quickly for the sake of saving people, rather than use them as training opportunities like a full saiyan. There is always this ideological tension between Trunks and the other protagonists of the story, making him the most compelling character imo.

The reason why Goku tends to be stronger is not one of power, but one of mentality: Goku is always open to becoming better, using all sorts of innovative training and being humbled to learn from all sort of different masters. In comparison, Vegeta always had a rigid and unflexible training method, enhancing nothing but it's core power, which works, but not so much when put agains such a resourcefull fighter like Goku.
Now that Vegeta finally got a master (Whis), he could, for the first time, enhance all parts that he was neglibe about, get in equal strenghts with Goku, and even surprass him in the SSJBlue aspect.

Hitting Cell with blast strong enough to give Gohan the edge and win.
He saved Goku from the clutches of Android 19. Androids 18 and 17 were unarguably delayed on their way to Goku, by his intervention. His effort allowed Gohan to win the beam struggle against Cell (in which he would've struggled even with both hands intact).
If Vegeta kills Cell in his second form there isn't a conversation to be had.

I think it's interesting how the hair sort of reflects and shows differences in characters.
For instance:
Vegeta's hair is straight up because he is a proud prince, Trunks hair is down because he doesn't believe in himself, and Goku's is all over the place because he is a mix.

He had hands down the best and saddest Super saiyan transformation when Future Gohan was killed. Him absolutely wrecking 17 and 18 in the future is one of the most cathartic moments in all of Dragon ball. Also Ssj Rage may have been an asspull, but man was it amazing to see him just lose it, should have been the end of the arc there and then.
Forever the coolest character for me.

I must start by saying Trunks has always ALWAYS been my favorite character from Dragon Ball. The insight and even psychology behind his story and relationship with his father is incredibly dynamic! You've done a fantastic job here and my inner Saiyan thanks you!
I love how you played X vs. Zero. Both Zero and Trunks have the whole blond-haired, noble swordsman schtick and both wind up pretty much being the sole survivors in their series in one form or another.
Very fitting.
Both also suffer the loss of a loved one (or in Zero's case, everyone, because Elf Wars) which sparks a change in their character (Gohan in Future Trunks' case, and Iris in Zero's case)

They're pretty much the same characters, just overexaggerated in their personalities.
@@markjohnhumilde9758 Not really. The TFS Trunks has a repressed goofy side that Krillin is able to coax out with "pew pew" noises. He's also actually annoyed with the various eccentricities of the group. Sure, both traits are just played for laughs, but they make for a more ... whole character.
And Vegeta comes across as a lot more believable, mostly because his canon dislike for the group is largely based on the way he's ALSO annoyed with their eccentricities. We can actually sympathize with why he feels someone like Goku is inferior to him, and why being so easily surpassed by him is so infuriating. TFS Goku just idiot-savants his way to ultimate power, while Vegeta works himself until his ribs break and still can't measure up.
We also see TFS Vegeta's vulnerabilities more easily, and he's a bit less in denial about them. It's why he and Krillin have that moment after getting slapped around by Perfect Cell.
Why is it that people can't see the beauty of dragon ball's story? It's such a wonderful tale. Is it because shit isn't narrated all the time? Because there isn't a million flashbacks? Is that why people think of dragon balls story as "simple"?
Nah. The plot has as many holes as your average block of Swiss cheese... after being blasted by a shotgun. That's the first issue. Then you have the poorly written villains (Jiren comes to mind) and the insistence of tell, don't show that super has. Step outside of the nostalgia for about... 5 seconds like I did and you'll realize the show isn't the masterpiece you seem to think it is. Also, insulting people who think the show is "simple" is a terrible way to make an argument. Not only is it wrong because DB is about as by the numbers plot wise as you can get, but ignorant. Since you're assuming people who don't like it just don't "get it"

And you're even saying that Jiren is a VILLAIN? A villain is a character who's evil actions affect the protagonist. Jiren has no evil actions. He is fighting for survival of his universe.
And i'll ask just this. Tell me the holes in the story. Holes that AREN'T caused by Toe studio filler scenes that Toriyama had nothing to do with.

My Favorite relationship during the Cell Saga was Trunks' relationship with all the Z-fighters. It felt like Trunks truly had family and friends by the end of the Cell Saga. I believe it was good for Trunks to see people other than Goku, Vegeta, and Gohan standing up to the Androids and Cell. Trunks got the chance to see people who were completely outmatched still stand and fight to protect the world.
You keep slipping into my feed for some reason but this video here attracted me because of how precise your analyzing of one of my favorite DB characters was.

Can you guys imagine if trunks went back to his timeline after the Hyper Bolic Time Chamber ( or ROSAT for the fanboys ) without helping the Z-fighters in the cell games.
Trunks: "Now I have all this power I can save my own timeline. Screw you guys imma goin home"
He couldn't help in the past anymore, and he didn't, if he was smarter he would've gone back to his time, dying against Cell wouldn't save his mother, the other characters would understand, but that would've put a stop in Vegeta's development arc though.
@@MaxIronsThird I don't know, he stayed in the past to help because he didn't know Gohan or anyone could actually reach the level of perfect Cell, given that he saw him destroying Vegeta without a blink. I always appreciated how much Trunks cared for what happened in the past, since what he wanted was to never let the world become the nightmare he was forced to live in his timeline. Yes he wanted to save his mom, but ignoring the fight against Cell where Earth could have been easily destroyed (hadn't Gohan reached SS2) is not something he'd do. To me him being in Cell games and dying is perfectly justified.

Plus the power shown by Cell against Vegeta and Trunks is probably around the same level as what Goku and Gohan had when they left the RoSaT and Goku showed off his power pretty blatantly.

Also, I don't know what you mean by this "the power shown by Cell against Vegeta and Trunks is probably around the same level as what Goku and Gohan had when they left the RoSaT", since the first thing Goku did after getting out of the room was to feel perfect Cell's ki and inmediately recognizing he wouldn't be able to defeat him (all of this while telling the audience that that he was already way stronger than Vegeta, even Vegeta ackowledges that later).

Trunks suddenly showing up with super saiyan, in my opinion, was what caused the start to Super Saiyan losing the sheer impact it had
It kinda did in a way, but it was awesome and mindblowing. I think Goten and Kid Trunks are the ones who ruined it for me tbh

Edit: I always thought him using a sword was a bit out of place thpugh. I get that its the future, but in an anime where FIST fly for the most part, some sort of futuristic KNUCKLES would've been sicker..or just make Trunks super op fron jump so he doesnt need a weapon

@@-cams. There aren't really other *heroic* characters. Goku still fights mainly for pleasure, Gohan because he has to, Vegeta is antihero, Piccolo just stopped to be in middle of the arc.
