I honestly WOULDN'T say DBS ruined Vegeta's character, it's a topic that comes up every time DBS and Vegeta are mentioned. People usually say DBS retconned Vegeta because he went back on his Buu Saga development. But the developments aren't the same. In the Buu Saga, Vegeta puts down his life long grudge of revenge against Goku, he's not orienting his entire life around beating Goku anymore. In Super, yes, he still wants to beat Goku, but it's as a regular martial artist and a prince and wanting to be the best he can be, he just didn't lose interest in fighting and retire like half the cast. You forgot that not just the whole "Jane wasn't good for Jesse", but she quite literally threatened to END Walt, also putting his whole family into the pit...

I think 1 thing needs to be understood, character progression =/= character development. Static characters can have great character development Ex. The joker or batman, they're fairly static characters, but the development is from the exploration of how they would respond in different situations. Development = exploring how characters respond to different things, and gaining further insight on their thoughs, ideas, purpose, objectives etc progression = how a character changes through time It just so happens to be the case that in many cases development co-incides with progression (as shown here)
