As someone who has handled an original Star Saber before, I must say the brain of courage face raising into the body gimmick thingy is literally the most satisfying thing I've ever experienced.
The one thing I miss from older Transformers and Power Rangers toys is how easy connecting parts together is. Modern toys don’t have that satisfying click and ease, and is often prone to damage
I've missed these vids. I was entirely unaware of Star Saber for years and was especially surprised when I found out he was meant to be part of the team with the Motivator figures I had. The gimmick they have is one of my favourites. Something real cool about how the face slides up into place. Feels very mecha anime... which I guess it is. Also, man yours is pristine. Can't wait to get my Haslab Victory Saber. most I've ever spent on a single figure since MP-1 nearly 20 years ago.
Was going to say something similar. I have no investment in Victory whatsoever but the box and toy of Saber are possibly the prettiest TF products I've ever seen. If I had this I would probably pass on the HasLabs so now I'm kind of glad I picked one up.
Star Convoy was the #1 most desired Japanese exclusive G1 figure on my list for years, but after acquiring a MIB specimen I now (still) have my eyes on Star Saber. Helping fund the HasLab version has only fueled my interest in acquiring the original. Seeing your excellent video just adds more fuel to the fire.
Getting a repro sticker sheet has the added benefit of not having the glue dried already and then having to use wood glue to make sure they don't just immediately start peeling off.
I bought G1 Star Saber and Victory Leo awhile ago. They were both loose, and missing a sizeable amount of pieces. Regardless, it is a truly gorgeous figure. And one of my favorite things in my collection.
About three years ago I went to TF Nation and after a long day buying new TF stuff I saw a G1 Star Saber and Victory Leo on a stall loose but both in good condition . I asked the price for Star saber Dreading the response and I was told 70 pound and even tho it was my last spending money I got him . As I walked out the main hall with no money left I looked at him and fell in love with him right away he was still mostly white and had a 3d printed sword but it was well looked after and I could not believe he had the brain of courage too for that price . But that victory Leo played on my mind and after 15 mins I ran back and got victory Leo too for 70 pound again a amazing price no v gun and one shoulder gun (still need a left one sadly but got the v gun) but again he was in amazing condition. So thanks to my other half lending me the money I had the set . After the con I just could not stop playing with them the hundreds of pounds of new toys just sat in bags waiting for me to open them 🤣 I even sold a couple to pay my other half back with no regrets . I still get them out once a week at least to play with them and as you can imagine I have just given haslab my money for the new one lol . If you have never seen a Starsaber or Victory Leo irl do so . If you can own one do so you won't be disappointed believe me . Many a time in this fandom IV seen people big up holy grail transformers and they fall way short but both of these and Overlord are beloved for the right reasons JUST SAY GO!! 🙂
Thanks for bringing to light the parallel between Star Saber design and the traditional super robot design. No wonder I like Star Saber's look much more when I was a teenager. (I was raised playing super robot chogokin toys.) In case people are not aware, Victory Leo is actually a reincarnation of Optimus Prime Jinrai from Transformers Chojin Masterforce. (Yes, Prime died..... again!)
I think Star Saber was influential to mecha as Takara after the end of Transformers Victory with Sunrise would create the Brave series and the influence that series has on the mecha genre.
That final shot of all the masterforce grail figures took me out. What a casual inclusion of g1 Black Zarack. You better hope Gavin TFRDQ doesn't see this or he'll take up permanent residence in your walls
I waited all day for this hell yeah, can NOT wait when we get our Haslab Star Saber, I am already looking at getting an entire new shelf just for the big guy I think you are one of the few people on YT to even post such a high quality vid reviewing this gem too so the wait for this was well worth it. one of the things that G1 Star Saber captures so well is that it has just a bit of everything that people love about transformers, from the fun transformation, the fact that you have multiple playable modes all rolled up into 1 toy, the Brainmaster gimmick which has its headmasters aspects and of course the combiner bits he has with his parts and Leo! Its like they took a little of everything they have had up to that point and made the perfect balance. truly, a Transformer in both looks, playability and functionality
The new Haslab Victory Saber is pretty bittersweet for me. Victory Saber has been my favourite Transformer for as long as I can remember (as the username shows) but for various financial reasons I simply can't afford to get it. It's going to be hard seeing all my TF mutuals with their Haslab Victory Sabers while I make do with my Robot Masters one from ten years ago
That is awesome, I had no idea about Star Saber until a couple years ago when I got back into collecting Transformers since I was a kid. It was a surprise to find out that there was more to G1 than just the American Show. Hopefully with the success of the Star Saber Haslab it will encourage Hasbro to promote more of the Japanese G1 characters, but as you pointed out they have been doing that subtly for a few years. Thanks for the fantastic review.
2:01 They could be referring that this is they first original mould for a Japanese character, since the Titans Return Blackshadow mould was meant for Overlord and that was based more on the IDW version than the Masterforce one, and could be that the Shuffler mould was meant for Ramhorn, since they were doing that releasing the repaint/remould before the intended character.
@@SixoTF Still laughed at that part, i thought that you were going to mention the Generations Blackshadow, didn't even remembered that Sunstorm is a Japanese character.
LETS SAY GO!!!! Just got my g1 completed Star Sabre and Victory Leo today. Also grabbed the Haslab version of them and Deathsaurus. I'd call that a Victory!!!!
i never noticed how many design principals victory saber shares with unicron trilogy optimus primes. all three have super modes of a similar type, but energon has the helmet thing going, cybertron has the big boots with big winged backpack and dual cannons, not to mention a combination with a leo
13:14 Given the detailing on the Brainmaster (which is suspiciously identical to his full combined mode body) and the scale issues that crop up in many these scenes (Hori looks much larger in comparison than he's supposed to be, for example) I'm actually convinced this is supposed to be Saber walking around *as a brainmaster* , but half the time this isn't followed in the anime (probably because it's confusing).
And MP-24 Star Saber has KFC Simba, the third party Victory Leo with MP quality that also can combine with it and even comes with new gimmicks not included in the original nor in the Haslabs version.
Dang those super rare headmasters @ 7:13/14 are awesome. I missed my chance decades ago to snag them& am hoping they'll get a re-release one day... Great video!
Thanks for making this! I suggested this video to you back when the Toy of the Week was a regular thing, and to see my dream a reality was certainly a return with a bang. I still consider Star Saber to be one of my absolute favorite figures in my collection, and I’m hoping to get his comrade Victory Leo soon!
I got my Star Saber back in March and I still can't really believe that I own it. He showed up on the same day as a KO MP-44 I ordered as well and quickly overshadowed it. Can't wait for the Haslab one ot be released.
What an amazing G1 figure. Makes me even more glad I was able to back the HasLab Victory Sabre. Sounds like you got one too. I am interested to see what you think of the new figure. Thanks.
Very good presentation of STAR SABER... I love the G1, and i hope the haslab version will be better in proportion than the MP version. For me, the G1 version is better than the MP version, because all gimick are real. Another interesting figure is DAI ATLAS, with this companions (I see you have them in this video)... The MicroMaster base is the best for me in the micromasters world, better than Star Convoy.
Unfortunately my Star Saber began to discolor recently. It doesn't bother me too much though. I've just accepted it as part of the aging process. I would love to get a MIB copy in the future though.
We better start seeing more reviews and videos now that you're all moved, man. :P Any chance you'll be doing a video on the new HasLab Victory Saber??? Love your stuff, my friend. Cheers!!!
"TOY OF THE WEEK"
"Now that is a name I have not heard in a long time, a long time"
It's back!
As someone who has handled an original Star Saber before, I must say the brain of courage face raising into the body gimmick thingy is literally the most satisfying thing I've ever experienced.
Agreed
“Combine-mode turducken” actually made me guffaw.
Lol, I was pleased with that!

I'd say he's a good contender for the most gorgeous toy ever made.

The gorgeous photography here really shows off the toy's good side!
So does anyone fancy another Toy of the Week next week? :D
Yes! So nice to see one of these back on your channel, Sixo! Especially when it's exotic affairs like Star Saber :)
These are always great, dude, yes!

I kinda started to miss these, so yeah 👍.

I was very lucky to find a near complete and minimally yellowed loose Star Saber on Yahoo Japan auctions for 90 USD, worth every penny and then some.
It maybe is possible they mean “HasLab’s first Japanese transformer figure.” But that’s not what ended up getting communicated
Absolutely love that format of the intro.

There's always the secondary market a couple years down the line!

Fact is, whichever way you cut it, the statement still isn’t accurate. Whatever the case though, it was only meant in good humour.
@@SixoTF Still laughed at that part, i thought that you were going to mention the Generations Blackshadow, didn't even remembered that Sunstorm is a Japanese character.
Fantastic video, Sixo! G1 star Saber is stunning, something I'd love to get someday. I cannot wait for the Haslab!
the return of the king

True!
Very Japanese robot designs.
Transformers Victory is so underrated it’s insane. Watch it, it’s great! Just watch the sub.

Haslab has the VIctory Leo included, that's the only advantage it has. Otherwise, Takara Tomy's MP-24 StarSaber blows it and the G1 out of the water
And MP-24 Star Saber has KFC Simba, the third party Victory Leo with MP quality that also can combine with it and even comes with new gimmicks not included in the original nor in the Haslabs version.
I heard "turducken" and my train of focus blasted off the rails.
Can't believe this is considered g1. This is transformers from another universe
It is G1 though. It was released in 1989.

I just remembered toy hax exists, and they need to make a set for Haslab Star Saber
I always think of the sword when I hear star saber
10:46 huh the stock footage just shows him simply plugging in then helmet
How’s this channel so small with such good quality???
what about MP 24? the way your video says this G1 and then the Haslab version...

Hello nice video , this version looks good but it should have been bigger, I prefer my MP-24 or even the Irontrans version.
I wish I had the money for any of these starsabers

dang i didn't know that sixo has youtube channel
Weird how the stickers saying 'star saber' make it feel a bit KO-ish..
Man. How were you able to snag this guy at such a good condition?
no one seems to know that Star Saver was big in latin america, not even hasbro lmao
Didn’t they already release star saber back in energon
A homage to him called Wing Saber
Can Ginrai fit in Vstar/Saber fit in Ginrai's trailer?
My wanted holy grail.

Yes, at an extremely inflated cost on Ebay probably
