I'm really glad to see you posting a full video review again, just as polished as ever. It's very fitting that it would be Pink Hot Rod that gets you back into it!
Love this new color scheme on him. Grew up loving the G1 toy as well, which broke years later on the rotation mid transformation. Fortunately got the first reissue in the US at Toys R Us back in 2002. As for this new one, I think it looks fantastic though I do wish the engine and exhaust pipes were chrome. Other than that he's great.
Great review. It's amazing how a new colour scheme can elevate a figure. If I have any misgiving, it's the lack of chrome but it still looks fantastic. I hope you'll do a review of the Starscream reissue. After 38 years, it's nice to finally see the G1 Seeker mold with a painted face and optics. Your photography in these videos is on par with any professional.
Missed these reviews. Good to see you back. I'm absolutely getting one of these. I have this loose goal of getting one of every Hot Rod/Rodimus mold and while I have the G1 lad still this is just too pretty to pass up.
I was recently able to get myself a copy of G1 Hot Rod (the 2018 reissue, though, not this version unfortunately) It is such a fun toy to mess around with, and my friend was surprised just how good it is, as he only ever had Rodimus Prime as a kid.
Awesome. As a G1 collector (a lifelong G1 collector at that) you tend to learn in modern years that you pretty much have to jump on any G1 re-release nowadays. Hasbro knows there are people like me that are still alive (lol!) that are still excited to see G1 updates to the molds such as this. It's just too bad we do not get a whole lot more in terms of G1 re-releases the way we want them, but I guess the market for these types (people my age) are dwindling. In any case, yes, I am ALL over this...absolutely. I have this and Starscream pre-ordered!
i personally prefer the darker, less pink red colours for hot rod, but this feels like a pretty much essential piece for fans who grew up with the movie. i especially like it in conversation with velocitron hot rod, who is based on the screen design with toy colours, versus this, which is the original toy in screen colours. definitely a good time for fans of both sides of hot rod.
I got this one on pre-order and is supposed to arrive just before Christmas. I never had a Hot Rod, but I did have Rodimus and still have my childhood toy. I'm looking forward to getting this one in the animation colours. Thanks for the great review.
This is the version of G1 toys I never thought I needed until I saw the promo pics. The toys look gorgeous and can't wait to see other G1 toys in a cartoon color scheme! Just wished they used a slightly darker shade of gray in the plastic
ABOUT TIME SIXO!! Sixo I love you videos, love your pics and love your blog. I truly did miss your videos since you took your hiatus. Now that you’re back what could you do to keep these videos coming? Unique figure reviews? Figure/character comparisons? Idk what the answer is but it’s great to see you back here dude. Now ssshhh I have a video to watch.
Great to see new content. I’ve been re-watching the previous videos pretty consistently all this time so seeing a new one drop just made my day😊 Your attention to detail and stylistic approach is a real standout amongst the sea of Transformer toy review channels. Can’t wait to see more.
Good to see you back, reviewing again! I'm waiting on my copy of this from TF Source. I love the pink color but am pretty bummed about the lack of chrome. Id be very curious to see you customize one of these.
That’s a great looking redeco of a classic mold. I always thought G1 Hot Rod was just about the coolest looking G1 figure design. It has always been a standout to me. Great review and presentation!
Amazing review!!! I'm really glad to see a full review on here again, specially being a so passionate like this, thanks for the video!! Keep up the awesome job!!! =D (English is not my primary language, so sorry for any errors!)
Its great to see a new video from you, especially after a long wait and lots of great looking community photos. I hope characters like Astrotrain, Bluestreak & Wreckgar get this treatment someday. As their examples of original G1 toys that got quite the different appearances to their show models.
I loved this toy. Sadly, a friend turned former friend demanded his gift back. Well, he didn't, his mom did. I forgot what made him a former friend, though. Yep, that's my memories of Hot Rod. Now I have the Walmart reissue and the 86 Studio Series. I think that's enough Hot Rod for my collection. I really hope to get Rodimus Prime at some point.
Great video! I’ve nearly cancelled my preorder on this a number of times, only in the interest of saving some money as I haven’t really been collecting classic molds since getting back into it. However, your enthusiasm on the podcast, on twitter and now here has kept my excitement up and kept my order in. I’ve never handled this mold or even seen it in person, despite dreaming of it throughout my childhood. I owe it to myself to finally experience it, and it seems like this is the best iteration to do it with.
Oh wow, I was literally just thinking about you the other week and hoping all was well. Glad to have you back! Still umming and ahhing over this one, he does look wonderful and I do have a couple of other G1 animation repaints but too much stuff, not enough room, etc.
After so much teasing of the photos it’s wonderful to see the video review!! My pretty pink Hotrod is on preorder. Till my day comes I shall enjoy your incredible photos and this lovely review!
Omg a new sixo video. I actually gave up on you posting anymore vids 😂 literally make some of the best on YT. Oh and Sixo the promo pics do show the collar clipped in behind
Thanks so much, I appreciate that! There will be more... As for the collar, you actually cannot clip it in from the rear here - it doesn't clip on this version in that way.
I must admit, until people started discussing this new version, i never noticed Hot Rod's toy colour didn't match the animation. But then colour varies from screen to screen.
Your comment of “one of my favorite transformations” got me thinking what mine was… I think (and this is not an easy call) my favorite transformation of all Transformers is G1 Grimlock. I loved how then chest slides down to form the belly, the arms turn into the legs, and the Dino chest turns into wings of sorts making him look more imposing. Just a smooth and clever transformation. 2nd would probably be Soundwave/Blaster.
Great review! Can’t wait to get mine. The box art is slightly wrong. Hot Rod’s big collar should be orange, not pink. At least the toy is more accurate. If only we could get Rodimus Prime in this color, as he was in the ‘86 movie.
All my life I've flipped Rod's head round so the collar is behind (Wal-Mart wouldn't have modded anything, the original mould sits perfectly without clipping), I never knew it should be clipped from the front before. I suspect my 6 year old self tried it, had trouble unclipping it and thought 'nope, not gonna break this one!'.
@@SixoTF Mine doesn't clip from the back, it just sits comfortably when flipped round that way with no need for a clip. It's just a standard UK version so I think they all would be the same.
7:33 Oh my god I had my vintage Hot Rod for years and I had no idea you were supposed to clip the neck to the front of the chest plate. I thought it just hung loose between the back of the chest plate and the strut that supports it! Learn something new from your vids, lol.
If you're gonna review a toy, Sixo, review it in style...!!! Looks like I'll have to keep an optic out for a copy of this at the next TFNation - any chance you'll be reviewing the new Retro G1 Starscream soonish too, by the way...? PS: Hope you get a chance to do more Masterpiece Masterclass vids soonish too - I for one would be very interested to see one focusing on Ultra Magnus for example, yes...?
I had no interest in this toy, and only clicked this because I was so happy you released a new vid. But your poetic gushing has made me want the figure.
Great video. I'm planning to purcahse 2 of them for my own Transformers G1 Glass display that I'm planning to set up and expand in the near future. I'm glad that Targetmaster Firebolt in gun form fits into one of his fists so I'm planning to purcahse 2 Targetmaster Firebolt sets on Ebay soon because I will create my own Japanese robto mecha stop-motion videos on it for my Japanese RUclips Channel.
