You're making me want toys I haven't budgeted for again. Never owned a G1 Blaster or Soundwave. If only there was a perfect time to do so when they were both readily available right now.
One thing that's annoyed me about G1 Steeljaw ever since somebody pointed it out...the sunburst pattern _should_ align with his "mane" - but it's on the wrong side!
The last reissue of Soundwave I got was for the 25th anniversary. As much as I love these, and as much as these reissues blatantly hit my nostalgia button, I can't justify buying these classics again and again considering the leaps and bounds made on the newer versions.
Honestly, I like how Blaster looks with his extended legs. Makes it look like hes wearing some fancy cargo shorts and i find that very fun and charming. Also, its so amazing to see Laserbeak,... I don't know what it is but Laserbeak's design just feels so timeless despite being a little cassette. I really hope to get myself a G1 Soundwave for a reasonable one day.
Huge f’n smile on my face as soon as I saw the thumbnail 😊. For some reason, I love the boombox bots, Blaster and Soundwave, even though for alt modes they make little sense in groups of vehicles 🤣.
Just so you know, both Blaster, and Radi-Casse Robo’s rifles can also be plugged into their backs to disguise them as an "antenna" for their alt modes as well. There is a hole on either figure’s back that will hold the handle of their rifles in place, and makes them look a lot more complete, and aesthetically pleasing. This same feature was advertised on the back of the modern Legacy release of the mold used for this character as an "Evo-Fusion" technique in what I’m guessing was an attempt to add more play value to the figure. So technically, both figures do possess weapon storage.
As a huge fan of the cassette transformers I really appreciate that they went above and beyond to give us a fresh take on these guys. Would love to see a retro cassette pack that gave us some of the more neglected cassettes like Slamdance, Squalkbox, slugfest overkill.
I wasn't even alive for G1 (was born in 2000), and I honestly like the fact that his Soundwave's kids are cassettes. I don't see any reason to update them to something more future-proof. In a world where giant transforming robots are out to conquer the earth's energy sources, and decepticon jets and autobot cars somehow need to scale together well enough to have them be able to fit in hand-to-hand combat when in reality an F-15 dwarfs a regular sized car to such a degree that most Autobots should look like hobbits at best (not to mention we have a space shuttle as one of the limbs of a combiner, and he is roughly the same size as the Jeep on the same team, and a freakin' motorcycle on one of the other teams), I really think "these are music cassettes, that's an outdated format" is a really small issue. 😅 Besides, they were never really portrayed as ordinary human sized cassette tapes when you think about it. Even in his mass-shifted alt-mode Soundwave's chest window was always way too big for ordinary music cassettes. I'd like to think the tapes, because they spend their time in alt-mode either inside Soundwave's chest or any one of the Decepticon's computers, were never updated by the Ark to be "robots in disguise". Their disguise isn't their alt-mode, it is the fact that they are hidden inside another robot. So instead of representing cassette tapes, I'd like to think they represent a uniquely Cybertronian medium. One that just happens to look exactly like oversized music cassettes. 😂
I was turning 11 in 1984 so was an older transformers fan so didn’t get many as my mum was trying to get me out of toys, but a girl I went to junior school with had Soundwave and I was blown away by it, as good as modern cartoon accurate toys are, these old G1 toys are brilliant, it’s great newer fans get to enjoy them
Yes they are great, I am a fan having discovered Transformers with the Prime series, I bought Blaster today, honestly I am passionate about the simplicity and effectiveness of the toy, It feels great to manipulate in six steps to transform a radio cassette into a robot 😂👍
There is something just so undeniably pleasing about the G1 figures that I never fully appreciated as a kid when the first came out. These redesigns make these iconic figures just pop in a way they never have before!
Your eye for detail, excellent camera work and easy-on-the-ears voiceover made this a total joy to watch, and it’s really solidified the appeal of these two for me. I was interested before, but the close attention to Soundwave’s paint and stickers(!) has really made me appreciate how this is a full-on alternate take on a classic rather than a slight overhaul in the name of a cute throwback.
I was very back and forth on this release of Soundwave but I can happily say you've convinced me to go for it. Great video as always and I love the comedic bits thrown in
It's amazing how good 40th Soundwave looks with Laserbeak on his arm and Ravage in his chest. Fantastic stuff that speaks volumes about the excellence of the original design.
Genuinely adore my copy of retro soundwave. When I got him in I didn't like him as much as I thought so I put the g1 soundwave reprolabel set on him with some paint additions. It's kinda cemented him as my definitive soundwave ngl despite generation 1 toys being bricks. He's just the perfect balance between the toy look and the cartoon look.
Funny thing about that is that both Titans Return Blaster and Kingdom Blaster actually do manage a storage solution for the rifle: you can attach it on the back and make it into an antenna. Maaaaaaaaaaaan, I definitely wanna get my mitts on these reissues (and that Hot Rod & Hound), but I don't think that's ever happening. Budgetary constraints are hellishly tight enough as is.
Sorry to hear! You can technically store G1 Blaster’s rifle on his back too but it’s not an official feature I don’t believe - it just uses a screw hole haha
1984, I was in first grade, a kid brought a G1 Optimus to school, that toy was a sensation amongst us in those days, it was not a cheap toy even back then. You were considered a kid from upper middle class back then if you had it.
Yeah G1 Prime was legendary to me as a kid. I finally got one when my mum picked one up second hand later on, and even though it was missing fists and all the other bits, I loved it haha
I had the original 80s Sound Wave and it was one of my favorite TF G1 toys along with Optimus Prime. Also had the 80s Blaster but if I remember correctly the cassette area do not open. I had the newer reissues of them both in 2019 and this Blaster did open to put the cassettes in so that was good. Not sure many older TF folks like myself remember. One of the great things about the 80s TF toys was the sticker packs that you get to put on yourself. Seems like most of the newer reissues does not have that. The older ones also feels heavier because of the diecast metals.
I really like the placement of Laserbeak's eyes there. The 'eyeslit' moulding really reads more like cheekbones to me, putting the eye on them feels like it's too low down. Birds don't tend to have that much of a brow, after all.
I kinda wish I hadn't gotten the previous Walmart reissues so that I could've had experienced the moulds for the first time through these beauties. And mate, it sucks those had 1 cassette less each! Fantastic video as always, Sixo.
man, those both look absolutely fabulous. I'm gonna hafta go fishing for them at non-walmart locations, as I hate giving them any money ^_^. Another awesome review, always glad to see you pop up with one Sixo!
One thing I've always noticed about any G1 Transformers reissues, was how much softer the carved/sculpted details are when compared to the originals. The originals have a very beautiful razor sharp finish to them. Study and compare their heads, like G1 Prowl, Hound, Lazer Beak, Sideswipe, Prime, Megatron (any really). The molds on the originals were sharp (for obvious reasons). The later reissues however, look rather soft almost has this melted look to them, by comparison. I wonder why they can't seem to achieve that super clean finish with the reissues, especially since they've been reworking the molds using digital sculpting tech. 🤔 It's one of the reasons why I don't buy reissues. My very first Transformer toy was g1 Prowl waaaay back when it first came to the US. I was very young. But he was my favorite. I loved his head sculpt and the way his rear trunk became his feet and the doors became wings. Such a beautiful piece.
I don't have the original blaster mold but can't you peg the blaster onto his back to make it look like it's a radio antennae sticking up from behind when looking at him from front on?
I'm so used to seeing the original colours that the new ones seem off to me. The bright cartoon colours are a stark contrast to the very intricate details of the figures themselves.
It bugs me how Blaster is larger than Soundwave when they are clearly meant to be counterparts, down to having the exact same toy gimmick with a near-identical transformation. I guess Blaster was made bigger since he's a Boom Box and not a Casette Deck like Soundwave.
Soundwave is my favorite G1 Transformer toy. It's one of the few perfect G1 molds, plus you get the tapes. Also, I grew up in an era where a portable tape player was coveted.
Its crazy how different of taste ppl can have. I dont even like g1 hot rod. Everytime i got 1 as an adult i gave it away free. I prefer the g1 rodimus. Its hella basic but tht trailer reminds me if my childhood
You're making me want toys I haven't budgeted for again. Never owned a G1 Blaster or Soundwave. If only there was a perfect time to do so when they were both readily available right now.
Ha right, no time like the present!

Ooof...

Fair enough - they're not going to be for everyone!

Agreed on Laserbeak - timeless is a good word! Hope you can pick them up one day.

Awww so pleased!
robots in disguise don’t have to be cars

So would I. I'd be surprised if we don't see some of the cassettes done at least, even if it's just the obvious names.

I like this, also, figuring out how old you are must be a real breeze.
Appreciate you opening yours as I intend to keep mine sealed! Love these releases though
My pleasure haha

I really like the extended legs look

Aw thanks - that’s great to read! Appreciated

I will watch the new uploads on loop of it means Sixo keeps making more videos ❤️
Aww thanks - it can't hurt haha
Ive always enjoyed your pics Sixo, but this is the first video of yours that Ive ever watched. Great job!

Collecting stopped to be affordable for people not in USA

Great video, especially when highlighting the slight differences between various instances of the same mold

Love the comparisons between reissues - please continue!
Nice video. I always wished Blaster was the size of Soundwave, so that way he would've fit in scale with the other figures.
Man, all the retro reissues look great when they’re side by side. Great review!
Thanks! And yeah they do
Blaster’s chest window is trapezoid, not triangular. ;)
I’ll allow it
man, those both look absolutely fabulous. I'm gonna hafta go fishing for them at non-walmart locations, as I hate giving them any money ^_^. Another awesome review, always glad to see you pop up with one Sixo!
Thanks so much, Tim
Splendid video as always.
Thank you!
GREAT review- you just sold me on Blaster. Picking him up now haha
Thanks! Enjoy!

The reissue is the same and should have various screw holes to peg into
Yes, you can! It's not an official feature I don't believe as it's literally just popping it in a screw hole but it's neat either way
I'm so used to seeing the original colours that the new ones seem off to me. The bright cartoon colours are a stark contrast to the very intricate details of the figures themselves.
It is definitely an adjustment, I agree. I couldn’t stop staring at Soundwave when he first arrived bc it was so strange in a way!
It bugs me how Blaster is larger than Soundwave when they are clearly meant to be counterparts, down to having the exact same toy gimmick with a near-identical transformation.
I guess Blaster was made bigger since he's a Boom Box and not a Casette Deck like Soundwave.
blaster was always bigger, hes a boombox
we need a missing Link Optimus treatment for 》》》》 Soundwave/blaster
I'd be into it
Love my Retro G1 Soundwave.
Soundwave is my favorite G1 Transformer toy. It's one of the few perfect G1 molds, plus you get the tapes. Also, I grew up in an era where a portable tape player was coveted.
Right on
Never had a G1 blaster, didn't know he was that big.
He's huge!
Well edited
Awesome double review
Thank you!
The original loooks waaaay better IMO
Its crazy how different of taste ppl can have. I dont even like g1 hot rod. Everytime i got 1 as an adult i gave it away free. I prefer the g1 rodimus. Its hella basic but tht trailer reminds me if my childhood
This review really was sterling stuff!
Awww thanks haha
blasters weapon goes in his back it looks like a radio antenna looks more like a radio
I Loved turning 40.
I hate the scaling height and size differences of the original Generation 1 figures
I don't remember Blaster being so much bigger than everyone else....
Always has been
y dont ppl just make soundwave dj decks and ravage lazerbeak etc could just be usb sticks if this idea been done lmk where
You need a oversized one
Soundwave did not even look the same like the cartoon figure
A cursory evaluation hehe
Glad someone noticed lol
Wasn't the only one I noticed either. IYKYK@@SixoTF

I think the plastic quality of these reissues are horrible. It may be a similar mold but the quality is lacking in the final product.
Disagree tbh - I haven't had any issues with the plastic here
These should automatically be "Thumbs Down" because of the lack of decals.
aw yeah toony toots
I love a good toon toot
a toony toot two-fer, you might say@@SixoTF
