I like to compare this Optimus and Earthrise with MP10 and MP44. MP10 and Earthrise go for a more simple transformation and with visible truck parts like the bed's wheels, while MP44 and SS86 go for a more complicated transformation and screen accuracy. It all depends of what you like for Optimus and I love that!!!
Perfectly put
I have all three earth rise , 86 and mp10 . I still love mp10 the most just for my own personal tastes . The way the backpack cleans up to almost bang on to the movie poster , the proportions and more realistic style. But they each are great figures. I wish someone would just update mp10 with moveable hip skirts and it would make him perfect for me
Good analogy save for MP-44's build and control quality issues
Spot on
@@gracengragg2730 Nice!!! I don't have the MP10, but for what i've seen it's the best Masterpiece Optimus in QC and design
I’ve been waiting for a mainline G1 Prime toy to really give me that “truck dad” vibe, since I got back into collecting.
SS86 did it so well for me that I honestly teared up a little. He’s a dream come true for me
Aw nice!
Yeah lol
Love you brother
I have been primarily a Masterpiece Transformer collector but rising costs and tighter budgets caused me to stop collecting. The Transformer Haslabs of Victory Saber and Deathsaurus dragged me back in and showed me how amazing the Generations line could be. I was not going to miss out on the Haslab Omega Prime though. After that, I thought I was really done but then along comes this Studio Series Optimus and WOW. There is serious value for money here. I just could not afford MP 44 but this Studio Series Optimus Prime scratches that ich for me and now makes me want to track down that Studio Series Grimlock to pose next to Studio Series Optimus. Once that happens, I know I can't just get one Dinobot. Looks like Habro has roped me in again. Thanks for the review.
My pleasure and happy to hear! I do agree with your assessment bc I was thinking the other day how expensive MP stuff has become but that this toy really bridges the gap in a way that it feels almost akin to what MP was doing ten years ago or more
Been waiting for this toy since I got into Studio Series last year.
Hopefully it was worth the wait
Just got mine today:
This version of Optimus Prime is just a great depiction of the character. The fun thing to me in comparison with his Earthrise counterpart is that Studio Series Optimus Prime gives me the same satisfying feeling while posing and transforming the toy like a few years back. Earthrise brought me back into collecting transformers and Studio Series is again a great toy - both of them now will have their well deserved place on my shelf because both being great iconic toys doing the character they depict justice.
I really think the backpack was a missed opportunity to give us some jetpack nozzle attachments, it wouldn't be the first SS86 figure to get a accessory not in the movie and would have went a long way towards justifying the backpack. Also I think once you look at Jetfire, Megmatron and especially Ultra Magnus and that awesome inclusion of being able to separate him from his trailer after transformation, they probably did or should have had the budget to include engineering so he could have the backpack removable.
It would have been an interesting solution!
the energon axe wasn't in the movie so...
@@unknownguy2051neither was the jetpack
@@Girlandsilly but the axe managed to be in the studio series
While I still believe that SS86 is unquestionably the best Hastak G1 Optimus we've ever gotten (I even like him more than MP-44), my main disappointment is that the backpack wasn't a necessary evil.
Magic Square made an Optimus that is even more accurate and better articulated than SS86 without needing a backpack or a faux grill at *Legends* scale and with a transformation that is about on par with SS86 in both complexity and fun factor. (Heck, it's so good that their MP offering is literally just an upscale with articulated fingers.)
SS86 could have just taken inspiration from that upper body transformation and kept its existing leg transformation and it would have been unquestionably the best G1 Optimus on the market, official or third party.
With that said, though, the forward and backwards butterfly joints that we got are very nice.
I was seriously impressed with the SS Commanders they've done, both the Prime and the Ultra Magnus are phenomenal toys for their price point, and get a tone of play out of their setups. while comparing SS to Earthrise highlights just what they skimped on to get the Earthrise Prime to where was, I don't feel it's unfair to the Earthrise at all, as it's still loads of fun to play with as well. they have just put SO MUCH effort into our favorite Truck Dad in the past few years, it's hard to imagine them getting more out of the Big Guy without dropping the triple digit price tag. I'm happy to have both in my collection, and can't wait for them to get us a Megatron to properly duel with ss86 Prime ^_^
Im one of those guys who cant have optimus without the trailer. That look that ss86 has with the trailer is just stunning. I love it so much
21:39 petition to label this process "breaking in a transformer" like breaking in shoes
Haha good call
The tips of the blue kickstand pieces at the bottom of the truck can be rotated to touch the ground
Oh? I'm going to have to look into that now
Was about to point this out! They're supports that makes the base mode stable enough to hold figures on top
This toy made me feel things, in a way i haven't since I was a kid. I swear to god it radiates and aura of joy.
Agreed
Just a tip for the butterfly joint: you don't really need to pull them too hard to when you want to engage them. The tab that locks it in place is just too sharp that it almost acts like a hook, so the safest way to go about it is to just push the shoulder down a little bit before moving the joint.
Nice
Got mine a couple of days ago, and while I'm not as over-the-moon with it like many folks are, it is a very nice figure and very much worth your time. Ordinarily, I'm not one for trailers and accessories, but prime's trailer here makes the vehicle mode look so much more complete. One of my favorite things is how he scales with SS86 Ultra Magnus in both modes. I'm not sure if there was much of a difference in height in the cartoon, but Magnus towers over Prime in robot mode, but in vehicle mode, Prime has a slightly bigger cab. You add the the trailer on top of that and there's an indescribable feeling of joy I get when seeing the two side by side. Really makes me tip my hat to the designers.
Still recommend it yeah? It looks awesome💙😎
@darkscoutergamer6168 oh yeah, it's a real nice toy
Glad you enjoyed him, not the biggest main line collector myself but had to have him. Been my go to transformer since to fiddle around and transform back and forth when bored.
I’ve found the same
Honestly love your reviews, got no real complaints for them ever...except for the music. God I'd kill for you to have more than that one tune, it really gets grating after so much time
Haha fair enough! Noted
@SixoTF I do really want you to know I absolutely love the reviews themselves! It's just that the music has gotten very repetitive, especially in longer episodes like this one. Either way, keep it up! Looking forward to that Animated Prime double vid
I adore this thing so much. The wizardry involved to get a G1-toon accurate Optimus into a Generations price point, with two stellar looking modes, highly articulated, AND a transformation that doesn’t make you want to scream? It’s magic.
Something about your lighting and/or color reproduction is just sublime 👍 👌. Optimus looks soooo good here and more premium than in some videos.
Perfect timing, mine just got came in the mail today. Excited to open it up and play with the kids when they get home from school!
Nice! Have fun!
Mine unfortunately has some bad issues with stress marks on some parts, especially a big one on one of the front truck panels. It does bring the enjoyment factor down a fair bit for me, even if it can be fixed.
That said, engineering wise i think this is perfect. Sure it has a backpack but that backpack doesn't hinder anything and isn't messy to transform either way. The way it hides the wheels is SO simple but genius. Posing this figure has also been an absolute joy, so easy to get him in a cool action pose. I do wish the head had, well, *any* upward range though
Ahh sorry to hear! How annoying
He is utterly splendid. Honestly I don't have any real gripes with him, things like the head not being able to look up very far and the heel misassembly are such minor quibbles that, while I wish they were better, don't *really* matter. They got so much right.
And for your window scuff, I don't know about their shipping to the UK but Toyhax has both powder blue and cel shaded windows that both look absolutely lush. I'm partial to the cel shaded set myself but the powder blue looks like it essentially just gets rid of the tab slots on the sides
The most important test; can Huffer pull Optimus Prime's trailer? Yes, the Kingdom version of Huffer can absolutely pull it. You're a true friend, Huffer.
Having gotten this toy for a while, I'd say he's the most fun Transformers toy I've had since SS86 Grimlock!
Got mine a few days ago. Very happy with it. He's a big hefty boy!
He is!
This might be a contender for my favorite toy in my entire collection. It’s my first time with a truly complete Optimus Prime package, roller and axe and all.
I got my copy a few months ago, love it. Definitely not one to one with the animation, I wish his arms bent more than 90 degrees and in my humble opinion, the antena on the head are just a bit too thick for me. But the proportions, the heft the quality and the paint are all spot on for me and I couldn’t be happier with him. Super fun figure and I take him to work with me to keep me sane :)
Haha nice! I agree with your points but yeah still fun
this is one of the best optimus primes of all time
Great video!! I recently got into collecting, got SS 86 Bumblebee and Ratchet to start. I have been searching high and low in my area for all the SS 86 Autobots, so far Prime is like finding a needle in a haystack.
Sorry to hear!
This thing is absolutely amazing and will definitely be my figure of the year! He's just so much fun to transform and mess with! Yeah, that head transformation is scary as heck... And I took the time to fix the heels. Not worth it, honestly. Glad they're correct now, but it really is a nonissue.
Agreed!
I don’t collect transformers and even I bought this. ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!!
Nice!
got this figure about a month ago, and it really is one of the best figures i own and will be one of my prized possessions for a while. great video brother!
Thanks! Glad you're enjoying it
I've had him for a couple months now, and he's WAY up there in terms of all time favorite figures. In some ways i even like him more than MP44.
I think I do too
I am definitely in agreement with you about the trailer. Optimus just feels incomplete in his alt mode without one. For that reason, I’ve given my Legacy United toy version Optimus the Earthrise trailer. It’s a perfect fit!
Toyhax have some great cel shaded window stickers, which would fix your window blemish. It also covers up those annoying black plug marks as well.
Maybe… I’m happy with the natural look though! But a good option nonetheless
Great review thanks. I just got mine. Quite a lot of dirt under the chest windows. Did you manage to find out how to remove yours safely?
Mine is still underway, can’t wait to get my hands on it!
Great review! I got him a bit ago, and absolutely love him. One thing I saw is that you stored the blast effects wrong, as there is a little hole in the ball part of it that goes over the little peg. It helps them straighten out a bit more.
Cool thanks!
I just snagged this on Target online for $70, cannot wait to pick it up Sunday!
Oh congrats
From what I can see, this is like the leap from MP to Kingdom Blackarachnia, sure, the MP is hyper-accurate and has better articulation and more accessories...but this retail version is way less complicated, leading to a more _playable_ toy.
I have to agree with Sixo on many points here. Yes by God is this Studio Series 86 Optimus not only one of the hardest toys to get this year, it's also one of the best. The feet thing doesn't really bother me either. He's absolutely right about the Head panels. It was scary. But I have to be honest on my copy. I cannot get the leg connectors or the posts underneath the arms to fit. At all. (Those bits from the Legs that rotate to underneath the arms) Maybe I'll change it more. It is strange.
Retro G1 Prime is great too. I only got that recently.
I just think Missing Link Optimus Prime is without doubt, one of the best toy's in 2024. But I also had no idea that Earthrise Primes trailer was that small. As for blue line graphics on the trailer. Well, I don't get that criticism because these are supposed to be Toon accurate representations. Not supposed to be there.
I also watched the Missing Link Bee and Cliff video. I was surprised at how loose the arms were on them! My copy of ML Cliffjumper doesn't have that issue. Neither does Bumblebee..
Has anybody else got the same issue?
aside from MP01 20th anniversary Prime, this is my definitive Optimus Prime.
Nice
Crazy to think that 01 came out 20 years ago now!
Still a great figure!
@@LastBastianand he's special since my mom gave it to me while she didnt have much money
@@raynekraven I remember he didn't sell well originally, and went on clearance at Walmart for around $30. That's when I bought him, and that was definitely one of the things that got me back into collecting 80's themed toys.
Great figure!
This figure definitely captures the essence of the G1 Optimus prime. Couldn’t agree more with your review. Hopefully the SS 86 Megatron will get similar treatment. I hope they do the same with the rumoured SS86 Soundwave and take some inspiration from the MP figure. Love the legacy United figure but it definitely has room for improvement and making changes to give him a cleaner cassette player Altmode and maybe slightly taller bot mode and cleaner forearms would go a long way
Great review as always! My copy was also victim to blemishes under his windscreen - I too am hoping to find a way to pop them off and clean them!
Thanks! And yeah I need to give it a go
Always a blast to watch your excellent reviews. Everybody is raving about this thing but I have to admit, I just don't see it at all. Maybe there's something magical about it in hand that just doesn't come through the screen? It woulden't be the first time. But I've watched a bunch of videos about it and looked at photos and I just do not feel it at all. There's nothing about it that looks like an improvement on all the other Optimus Primes toys that I own. I'm a bit mystified by all the hype. Looks pretty ordinary and bland to me. But still, great review Sixo, as always! And the music doesn't bother me at all, I quite like it!
Thanks so much! And fair enough if it’s not for you - horses for courses isn’t it?
I was soooo lucky to be able to get this guy. If this had been ine of thise i couldnt get i dont know what id have done, sometimes missing a figure i want badly and cant get it makes me think about quitting collecting all together. Has ro needs to up their game to make sure nobody struggles to get a certain figure
The blue struts on the trailer fold down at the end so that they touch the ground and hold up the platforms
main flaw in its design aside from the head being a tad wider is his chest that is completely flat unlike mp44 accurate to cartoon with side of chest slightly slanted towards the back.
it's technically a mini-masterpiece otpimus, with the label studio series pasted on his box.
Somehow…I never once thought about a studio series G1 prime haha
I got miune asap! It's so good!
Nice
If you find yourself able to pop the chest windows out to fix the little speck, please post a video about it, I have 2 of these, both have the same issue.
I love your vids, but I’m amazed how nobody seems to mention MS02-EX when talking about this toy. To my eyes, Magic Square have to date made easily the most cartoon-accurate Prime, and looking at it instantly highlights where SS86 Prime has fallen short. I’m surprised Hasbro/Takara didn’t steal back from them some elements of their work.
While I do like this SS86 Prime, for me it just doesn’t look like the 86 movie version at all really. A great ‘interpretation’ of the character, but by no means a contender for most accurate movie version.
That’s fair - I do have the MS LOP but tbh I wasn’t fussed about bringing third party options in for a comparison here. I do agree it’s a good design though
Sure, I did notice you only had official Primes in your comparison. I don’t mean to be critical - I think you create excellent content and appreciate your work. 👍
Transformer of the year for sure.
Could be
Mine is supposed to be arriving at my doorstep via Fed Ex from BBTS today. Not really sure why it took so long for them to get there copies in honestly. but anyway, I'm very much looking forward to finally getting him in my hands. Nothing about it frustrates me at all atm judging by all the videos and photos I've seen. I'm sure DNA as always will make some sort of upgrade set for it, if they haven't already. I def want a more accurate matrix chamber. the one there just looks kind of "meh" as for the backpack, I mean...I guess I can see why people hate it, especially for the price point. But, I'm not picking it apart like that. for me. I'm just glad to finally having a Prime in my collection again. (Sadly, I'm having to start all over again for the 5th time as an adult collector)
Enjoy!
Maybe cast the Matrix Chamber in gray plastic instead of red 🤔 9:44
I’m sure they must have looked at options idk
@SixoTF My thought process is that maybe if they sacrificed the clear plastic windows, they could use the parts count and mold to get dark Grey inserts to put in the chest as the matrix chamber and have it be more movie accurate
While you wouldn't have that effect the windows provide you would at least have a better chamber like on Ultra Magnus
Definitely on my buy list, just need Hasbro to sort out distribution to the UK
It's so beautiful
Yep
Oof that backpack is hard to look at. Even the mp44 big backpack looks cleaner. Magic square figured out the backpack for both scales too
It’s really not so bad imo
The backpack's honestly fine in-person, plus fits him well especially after reading Skybound where he has a similarly-massive backpack too.
Had mine for about a week or so, its nice, but for the price mine has some sloppy paint, loose smoke stacks, warped effects, and the backpack is pretty terrible.
I ordered the Toyhax window stickers, and I do think that makes a real improvement visually at least.
Can't wait for a decent SS Megatron!
Titan Master Daniel from TR Arcee will definitely be going in my Roller lol
Good call
I’m confused, I’m new to the hobby and want to purchase this version of Optimus, I went on tfsource but it says it’s a pre order for February 2025, but loads of people in the comments already have him in hand. Can someone help/ explain pls lol
Classic Optimus Prime 0:40 (10/10)
😎❤️💯👑
That he is!
@ 😎👑🔥🥶❤️
I was unlucky to not preorder it within like, the hour this thing went up on Pulse and then sold out, and I'm now STILL trying to hunt one down. But this thing really does look stellar!
He's in stock at BBTS
I completely missed the blast effect and axe clips in the trailer. Mine came very warped out of the box, so I'm giving them a try to see if they can be re-shaped over time, like Magmatron's tail-sword. Can original Diaclone figures fit in that command module? I haven't seen anyone try.
I also had zero idea you could add the gun to the truck bed!
I was a little skeptical about this guy, knowing full well that he wasn't going to accomplish much more than Kingdom Rodimus at a similar price. After handling '86 Ultra Magnus, though, I figured the designers were probably brewing something crazy, not to mention that they've undoubtedly learned a lot since Earthrise about making a Prime toy. The butterfly joints, super-clean truck mode, the jump effects, and Titan Master-seating Roller ultimately won me over, and the backpack bothers me less than the already acceptable back-wheels of the last one.
I've considered painting the forearm arrows yellow, especially if I find a match for the existing yellow and confirm that the arms aren't POM plastic like the Matrix chamber. I forgot about the heel situation almost completely until you mentioned it, as I fixed it pretty shortly after I opened him up. A part of me thinks my ideal Optimus is probably this sculpt with Earthrise levels of greeble and molded detail, but I get why this wasn't done for the '86 appearance.
So far nothing I’ve tried fits in the command module, including original Diaclone pilots (nor the reboot ones)
Great review matey
Thanks bud
@@SixoTF Absolutely
This can't be figure of the year with the QC issues being so wide spread. I had to return my first one because of marks on his chest, other people posted his ankles being put together wrong and ears. He's a beautiful toy and we will likely see him sold in his other colors/molds. Awesome video!
Hello Sixo! One note for you, the blast effects have a hole that matches up with the peg in the trailer, though I find they hold in a bit better without using that peg-perhaps you did as well. Mine came quite warped, though not as bad as some I’ve seen 😂
Thanks! Someone else mentioned it too so I will check it out
I saw this figure sitting on the shelf at my local Target and talked myself out of it because I already had so many Prime figures. I regret that decision so much!
Prime getting a top tier commander class 2 years in a row.
Love to see it
For sure
how the hell did you get the side panels on the truck leveled and flush?? i've tried transforming it a few times and no luck.
It's a thing of beauty
For sure
This figure is excellent I wouldn’t recommend using it with a flight stand though the fight stand port broke off and was a pain to get out and left small scratch marks in his a hole 😮
2:48 I hate to break it to you my friend, but I feel like that little black thing is inside the plastic itself :(
If it's underneath it, it should not be visible at all since the underside is painted silver.
Ugh, maybe so!
This looks great! I want one sooooooo bad but they are super hard to get my hands on I guess I’ll just have to wait 😔
Hopefully one pops up
my figure of the year.
Nice
While my shelf prime from generations will always be earthrise prime but I'll definitely get 86 prime, but he is very expensive where I live.... No matter the cost
(Also I find it kimda funny how 86 has an mp10 esque head sculpt while er which looks like mp10 has a more mp44 looking head sculpt)
Yeah, the price has me waning for a bit too but it’s worth it imo
@@SixoTF yeah, if I can get this guy for around retail I will get one
Cool
Sixo banger
Can't wait until they try to top it. Best mainline Prime.
I’m sure they will one day
out of curiosity, what is the background music you used in this video, Sixo?
It's a licensed bit of music - I can't remember the name of the composer now tbh!
It only exists as a background track though
Earthrise got way more credit than it deserved. The siege version had way better proportion and interesting transformation. The earthrise's arms and upper torso are too short and his legs are too long. Look at it next to the ss86. Their legs are the same length even though ss86 is half a head taller.
Studio series 86 megatron is 2025..
Cool
Overall, what are your thoughts on the 40th anniversary as a whole? In my opinion this has been one of the best years for modern transformers
Oh good question and yeah, it’s been really something!
I wonder if they do a dead Optimus repaint
Just got my copy at TFcon, and it INCREDBLE! Border Line Masterpiece! Should I do a review on it myself?
Why not?
@SixoTF I'm screenshotting this and using it in the video!
My ONLY COMPLAINT with this guy was that stress marks showed up on my copy way too early
Oh that's a shame! Where?
@@SixoTF mostly on the right leg, but the Turning panel that the red/ blue panel is connected to has started to show stress in the knee chamber, I am getting some marks on the front leg panels, especially the parts that connect to the double joint
The only other one I could find was on the double joint on his back.
Still a great purchase
Congrats on getting this figure Sixo!! I hope that SS86 Megatron will be just as tall as Optimus Prime in robot mode, if not slightly taller. :D Keep on being amazing.
Aw thanks, that's so nice!
@@SixoTF You're welcome!
Holy cow i just realized they messed up his hands he has 12,6 on each! Check 10:17
Eather 6 fingers each or he's got a thick pointer finger
No it’s just the main finger is a bit thicker - optical illusion
@@redvineyt6910 It's just the pointer finger being thicker than the rest.
I'm just starting the video so maybe you address it later but there are steps to compress the backpack further around the kidneys that you haven't shown
The little tabs that fold in on the sides? They're in
I used a piece of 5mm black styrene rod to extent the gun grip slightly. It now goes all the way to bottom of his hand and the grip is really good. Means you can’t attach the gun the the truck bed now but… ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Honestly i think ss op looks the best compared to the two masterpiece
Fair
Let's roll!!!
Rolling!
i just got it yesterday, its amazing, apart from the fact that nearly all of the effects and axe are warped, esoecially the gunblast effects, its terrible. other than that its great tho
The gunblast effects should be fixeable by pegging them into the trailer, with them at least it's defo a packaging issue.
Ack, sorry to hear that
FYI they can be straightened out pretty easy with some heat. Hit them with a hairdryer set on high, and you can reshape them no problem.
he's definitely got the touch ❤
And the power?
The plastic is unpaintable??? I was planning on doing a custom so that kinda sucks to hear
Unpaintable for the type of paint Hasbro uses. Other paints made for plastics like Vallejo and Gundam Markers should be fine i believe.
Yeah this
Hot Take: This figure is better than MP-44
I think for the price point it might just be yeah
The backpack isn’t great. I’m not amazed by the figure as some others. It’s the best mainline Prime we’ve gotten. I think the 86 Magnus has it beat.
But how do i even get one lol
Good question
Optimus Prime SS86 could've been 10/10 but he doesn't even have the Option to Show Off the Wheels on his Legs so instead he gets 9
Bro it’s cartoon accurate 😭
@@metroplexstudios2406 Cartoon Accuracy does Not Make Every Transformers Figures Perfect and I want Grimlock's Red Eyes over Blue Ones
@@momuvid777 it’s supposed to a figure based on the movies, in the show and movies Optimus never has his wheels, it’s only seen on his vehicle mode

MS Optimus and te-01 are the best optimuses out there! I dont know why everybody so excited about this prime- It is far from being perfect..... The main thing that I dont like about it is the foot which is too narrow....The cartoon foot is very wide! The head is too rounded.. the backpack is huge and doesn't look like the cartoon (te-01 optimus has perfect backpack). I dont like the fact that it comes with the trailer- I dont need it and want it to be cheaper!
