Summer of '86 was a year of big changes for me. We had just moved to a new area in town right after 2nd grade and attended a new school in the fall. Seemed like all my classmates from my previous school cared about Transformers opposed to the kids in the new school who all cared about was hockey and wrestling. With no one to talk transformers with, I kind of fell out of love with it. I didn't watch the movie that summer so I did not know what the heck was going on with the 3rd season. I vividly remember saying to myself, "What the heck happened to the Transformers". With everything that was happening, it was easy for me to fall out of the fandom. Throughout the decades after, I always cared for Transformers from a far buying t-shirts and things until recently where I started to get my son into it by buying him WFC & Cyberverse figures. We are a household of hardcore Transformer fans (except my wife who chooses to just put up with it). I would like to thank you for this particular 1986 4-parter for I can pick up my love for the cartoon that I had left behind that summer.
As my father was a fireman, I was gifted one of the Protectobots every birthday and Xmas. It took 2 1/2 years, but in the end I got eventually got Defensor. Have him on display on my shelf as he brings back so many good memories.
Brawl was the first Transformer that I owned :) I became a fan of Transformers in 1985, am now 44 years old, and I think I will never outgrow being a fan of this awesome franchise. Loved the video, keep the nostalgia flowing! 😃😊
It was Soundwave for me, but I didn't own it. I lived in Asia, my local toy store never have G1 Soundwave, or any G1 toys when I was small. To this day I still haven't owned any Soundwave toy, but I still love it, awesome robot mode, awesome disguise and awesome minions.
When I use to live in Japan I went to a thrift shop with my friend and I found a g1 blades it was in okay condition and I bought it and gave it to my dad Who grew up with transformers
My Dad was a fan of the transformers when he was a kid and pretty much grew up with the show. He made transformers the first show I had ever watched right when I got home after being born and the continued to make sure that I grew up with the show. I've fallen I love with the Arielbots being my favorite characters in the show. and just recently, my Dad found and got the whole Arielbots set online and gave it to me. I have Superion sitting on my desk and it is the coolest thing ever.
Looking back at 1986, it was definitely my biggest year for Transformers as a kid. A really good year. I was lucky enough to get all 4 combiner sets through 86 and 87. Menasor was the only boxed set, I got the rest individually. Bruticus is my favorite because he was the most asymmetrical. I'm a proud member of the Tribe and I look forward to the rest of the series. Thank you, Michael.
Transformers was a huge part of my childhood. I still watch it actively to this day I watch the original cartoon and other shows like Prime and animated a lot.
I'm more than happy to say I'm one of the few G1 fans that liked Defensor/Protectobots more than Superion or even Devastator. The entry you did for these less popular toys and characters made me smile, and even tear up a little as they usually get overlooked.
Excellent video! I loved how each element of entertainment was covered. I was collecting the comics and had the video game for the C64 which was a ton of fun for its time. Far as combiners I loved the aerial bots! Bruticus was a major meathead.
Man, I love this movie. And the soundtrack!!! Don't get me started on that. I own it. Listen to it when I'm out running. I watch this movie 1-2 times a year. Rodimus Prime is my favorite from this line
Fantastic video Michael!...with every episode I'm taken back to a time that was so dear to my heart..thanks so much for all your effort...looking forward to part 2👌🏾
1986 presented a lot of new toy-line competition for the old guard. I barely remember any of these aside from Motor Master. I do remember being disappointed that the vehicles were becoming smaller and weren't matching the 84-85 toys.
I have a currently growing collection of G1. I’m probably going to get a Superion soon. Bulstering my ranks from 4, to 9! Well technically 10 but what ever. Don’t have much money as you know, children don’t have much of that. I’m selling some old unwanted transformers on eBay to help my ranks grow.
When you get to Metroplex, please show the ultimate form that was shown in the Japanese instructions that connects Silverbolt and Hot Spot. Love your videos, God bless
I love that Megatron is holding wheels from Jayce and the wheeled warriors, the way you have other 80s properties mixed into some of the cuts and as background props is much like we used to do when we were kids, (tho less polished) top notch as always!
Always wanted superion. The only full combiner I got was bruticus...piece by piece over a period of time. It felt like a scavenger hunt as a kid, finding the pieces in different locations from drugstores to department stores to toy stores. Love my moms and grandpa for getting these for me and giving me a fun childhood.
I have always liked the combiner gimmick (or similar concepts), not only in the TransFormers toy line but pretty much in any kind of robot toys. I know that (or at least that's how I see it) the Constructicons are like the quintessential combiners, but I always had a fondness for the Protectobots and the Combaticons as well. I only got Blades and First Aid back in the day.
Excellent work as usual - greatly appreciate the inclusion of the toon clips coupled with your animations / fond memories of getting the combaticons and having them face off against the arielbots
I keep rewatching these history videos, and they never get old. Thank you so much! And so that you know, I'm so much looking forward to the 1987 one :)
I want that room!! I gave away all my 80's G1 transformers and now I feel stupid I did it. But back in the mid 90's I wasn't into transfomers anymore. And I owned about 70 of them!! Even a rare one you could only order using the points on the back of the box and the cardboard Autobots HQ.
I had Superion as a kid and i recall seeing a knock off version of the Airialbots in a pre wrapped Easter Basket at WalMart in the early 2000's. Did anyone ever see these? They had other combinors as well in other baskets.
When I got Air Raid and Strafe, I'm imagining how big they were when combined when I was a kid, hoping one day I can complete these combiners..they were huge for me then! 😄 Still have some of the older ones, along with the newer ones.. 😄
As a kid the combiner teams were my favorite, I never got any transformers (except for 2 that I got later on when I was older) of my own so I played with w/e the other kids on the block had, which wasn't much haha. I did catch a glimpse in the video of one of only two transformers I ever had. The little "spaceship" looking green bot at 8:00. I hadn't seen my little friend since the 80s. Thanks for the memories! Great job on the video production, it shows!
Loved how the Autobots countered the new Decepticon Combiner teams with their own Combiner teams made of their opposites, the only thing I missed was the Decepticons having a Combiner size bot who was not a Combiner as happened with Omega Supreme.
When I got my supirion some of his stickers were missing and the others were one sticker when it was supposed to be 2 it was reissue at the end of the day I did care it was my first g1 combiner I was happy to have it
Good job on keeping these to 11 minutes and doing 4 parts! I approve! Give us all what we want.. and keep the RUclips algorithm happy so that you can prosper!
Fab job as per usual, Michael...also, I'm really glad that you alluded to the Marvel UK Transformers comic here, which was just hitting its stride with classic tales like 'Crisis of Command' and the beginnings of the Galvatron saga with the epic 'Target 2006' storyline - oh, for the seemingly halcyon days of childhood when 2005/6 really seemed like a lifetime away, yes?! (Let alone 2020...!!!).
Today is a good day to be a Transformers fan cause Ultraprimal= uploads 2 new videos TFanpage101=shows us some new earthrise stuff Chris Mcfeely=gives us a Basics on the Transformers God And now the great Michael Mercy another great history video For the record menasor is the best combiner at least in my opinion
The cool thing is I'm 30 and I grew up watching the original transfomers and and gi joe never could get my hands on original gi Joe's but transfomers were a easier time consumer as a kid and as adult now I'm glad I was able to experience what my uncles and other kids around world almost 40 yrs ago and thank you Michael for inspiration to complete my g1 collection
Nice video Michael, I just love your approach to these "The History of" series'. So optimistic and dare I say it, fun. But I wonder, will you cover the 86' batch of minibots in this edition? You know, guys like Pipes, Tailgate, Swerve etc. Love your work, keep at it.
I remember seeing on a kid rhino dvd collection interview with Flint Dille. That at the end of season two of the cartoon. They felt they ran the story well dry for stories in the present.1985-86. so to come up with brand new ideas they set the movie and season three into the future.
If I remember right, the "scramble city" style combiners were also reused (albeit cancelled) Diaclone molds. The subline was going to be called "Free Combination"
The protector-bots: Autobots, to the rescue! The combata-cons: the military mecha villains. The aerial-bots: the planes that protect. The stunti-cons: the cars that know one law, there are no laws. (Combiner wars) Optimas maximas: When the leader becomes a combined himself.
Michael, A+++ work like always good brother!😁👍 I know there is so much work and time put into these segments and we ALL appreciate it so much. God Bless🙏🇺🇸
Alright let's go a part 1 of 4 transformer series can't this RUclipsr be a goddess also the torso components for the combiners could turn into a small battle platform
Nice work Mike cant wait for the rest. Hope you'll show the extra modes for the team leaders. I just recently learned that they all had base modes that could be linked to the cities. Now I'm thinking, like Scattershot & Hun-Gur would they be considered triple changers or not? I just saw a diagram of Hun-Gur's 3rd form, which I can see why fans would say "Nope" about him, but to me it looked like a repair bay for the Terrorcons, like Hotspot's or Motormaster's - or perhaps w/ it's arms and layout he becomes also a holding area/torture device for Autobot prisoners. I argue yes, akin to Tracks & Perceptor. I know a lot of fans say no, but I'm thinking yes.
Awesome vid! I am all in on the combiners. I still have them all from back in the day. Plus some variants. Something about 5 vehicles combining into one captured my imagination. I havent yet picked up any of the newer ones, as i wanted to make sure i got the best versions of the ones available. (Picked up the Predaking as per your reviews, and i loved it!) Thanks for doing what you do, and sharing it all with us. =)
Fantastic video. Unfortunately I can never hope to own any of these toys but there's still satisfaction to be gained from someone who has clear passion and love for them.
That was awesome. Can't wait to see the next 3 parts. Any chance you will finish the History of Motu? That would be sweet. The Evil Horde needs some love.
Transforme and roll out!!! Awsome video man! I love the Ariealbots therir some of my favorites!! Takes me back!! I've started to build my own transformers collection it's coming along😊

Your dad’s a real hero. Not just for buying the Protectobots, but for saving lives.
Wow that’s cool
Your sequential walkthrough of the Transformers events of 1986 shows me how much my life revolved around these events in 1986!
Brawl was the first Transformer that I owned :) I became a fan of Transformers in 1985, am now 44 years old, and I think I will never outgrow being a fan of this awesome franchise. Loved the video, keep the nostalgia flowing! 😃😊

The first transformer I owned was also in ‘85 it was Cosmos.
I remember some kid bought Devastator to school I thought it was so cool.
Mine was a broken g2 onslaught
When I use to live in Japan I went to a thrift shop with my friend and I found a g1 blades it was in okay condition and I bought it and gave it to my dad Who grew up with transformers

Thanks Joe! Have an awesome weekend!
I love how Bruticus just smacked the top of the rocket off at 7:59 🤣
The anticipation for the movie back then must've been somewhat epic, I imagine...👌🏼💯✔️
Its incredible how much seeing these toys brings me back to specific times in my childhood. Reminds me of better times when everyone was around.
"I've been waiting for this!" Crossbones 2016
I just turned 19 and I’m still in love with transformers
Transformers was a huge part of my childhood. I still watch it actively to this day I watch the original cartoon and other shows like Prime and animated a lot.
Im 38 and still love Transformers!
14 and going strong, but my dad is 46 and still going as a transformers fan

I got both the arialbots and combaticons. 2 of my favorite combiners.
The fact that you opened with that quote, really won me out the gate for whatever your about to say.
Absolutely awesome video, I love it. The Combiners made it more fun to collect Transformers and they are all so cool and fun to play with.
These videos just keep getting better. Keep up the amazing work, dude. You make me feel like a kid again.
Thanks Jason, much appreciated. 🙏

Oh man, soo much memories coming back. I used to have plenty of these toys back in the days.
7:56 Warpath wasn't ready for that mighty kick ROTFL
I love all the vintage toys including ,silverhawk ,bravestarr ,starcom
8:15 Hot Spot: Protectobots, roll to the rescue!

Thanks Attila! 🙏
You presented this perfectly. I had to pause this multiple times on the big screen to point out which ones I had.
Awesome video! At 00:16 which wreck gar figure is that?
I had Superion as a kid and i recall seeing a knock off version of the Airialbots in a pre wrapped Easter Basket at WalMart in the early 2000's. Did anyone ever see these? They had other combinors as well in other baskets.
I think it was at walgreens I seen them in the late 2000's
I remember getting the complete set box of the Protectobots for my birthday in the summer of 86... good times.
When I got Air Raid and Strafe, I'm imagining how big they were when combined when I was a kid, hoping one day I can complete these combiners..they were huge for me then! 😄 Still have some of the older ones, along with the newer ones.. 😄

I had all of them and Defensor was the most solid of them and looked the best...miss them all.
I have been so excited for this

Great video! G1 Silverbolt and G1 Hot Spot were the first two Transformers I ever owned, back when I was just two years old. =)

Reliving my youth thanks to your vids. Awesome. And some bonus appreciation for those RoboCop references... 😎👍
6:55 Menosaur (sp?) just looks like a bunch of cars stuck together.

Always love your videos! Watching this makes me really want a true MP Defensor. Great work as usual.

My favorite was Superion. I was really into jets and airplanes when I was a kid, so this was like a dream come true lol
another superb edition, really got the oil flowing.
If I remember right, the "scramble city" style combiners were also reused (albeit cancelled) Diaclone molds. The subline was going to be called "Free Combination"
Great awesome video here the Combaticons were and still my favorite ✊✊
Just bought my complete Bruticus. Fantastic transformer.
Congrats!

Looks like 2 autobot combiners and 2 decepticon combiners are gonna have and big smackdown during cartoons.
Awesome vid! I am all in on the combiners. I still have them all from back in the day. Plus some variants. Something about 5 vehicles combining into one captured my imagination. Amazing stuff!!
That's some impressive collection room!
Thanks. Cheers.
Fantastic video.
Unfortunately I can never hope to own any of these toys but there's still satisfaction to be gained from someone who has clear passion and love for them.
You could try Generations Combiner Wars.
Thanks Bucky! Glad to hear it. :D
I had to rewind Bumblebee surrounded by those Joes 3x...nice.
That was awesome. Can't wait to see the next 3 parts. Any chance you will finish the History of Motu? That would be sweet. The Evil Horde needs some love.
Super cool video as always!
I’ve been looking forward to this. :D
Classic Mercy video! Keep it up 🙂
Can’t wait for part 2
