    Thanks for the feedback. To be completely honest, I've not had one problem with the MultiWii firmware. The AeroSky comes with a different version of the MWC called the X-Rock and there wasn't much documentation for it. It took me a while to figure out what version of the firmware to load and after that I was golden. I wouldn't be too hesitant about it. Good luck!

    Chanin, thanks for the feedback and glad the video helped. I have another AeroSky project I'm working on where I'll post some vids soon. I didn't realize how popular these quads are. It looks like a lot of people are flying them. Take care.

    Followed your video last night step by step..After a month of trying to get this quad sorted out I never got it right and I had no auto level..I got up this morning and tried my quad again..Crazy difference..I now have a new quad that works like it should..I still like flying with the auto level off but It can save your quad when it gets away from you..Thank you so much...

    Many thanks for the offer. I will take you up on it soon, but in the meantime I'm putting a KK2.0 board in there just because I'm more familiar with it and it's easier to configure with the LCD. I'm going to use the MWC as part of a scratch build quad project. I tried to get 2.2 working with this board, but I couldn't get the acc/gyro chip to register. I had to go with 2.0 and was able to get it to work. Thanks again and I'll be in touch.

    You're welcome and I'm glad the video helped. I haven't seen the sequences ever change and I don't think it's likely that they will, but be sure to always check your sticks with each upgrade. Good luck with the 2.3 update!

    This video is insanely helpful. It really improves upon the instructions that ship with the aerosky. Thank you so much for taking the time to film and edit it.

      Thanks, Bill. I struggled a bit to get the AeroSky configured so I figured I would put something together. It's a great quad for the money. Tough to beat.

  • @dennisbaldwin
    @dennisbaldwin  11 лет назад

    I agree. I was quite surprised that it flew as well as it did with very little tweaking. Now it's probably the rest of the tweaking that will be a pain, but hopefully I can get it dialed in.

  • @dennisbaldwin
    @dennisbaldwin  11 лет назад

    For the AeroSky TX I was using I had to set MINCHECK to 1120 and MAXCHECK to 1850. You may need to tweak those a little bit, but those worked nicely for me. Good luck!

    Thanks Farmer. I will definitely give those a try after I get it configured with the KK2.0. I'm going to put the MWC on another quad and see if I can get it really dialed in. I appreciate the tip.

  • @dennisbaldwin
    @dennisbaldwin  11 лет назад

    I know what you mean, but the goal was to give away this quad at a local auction so I wanted to get it up and running for a beginner without too much hassle. We had discussed configuring with a Turnigy 9X and we may go that route. If we do then we'll definitely mess with dual rates and expos, but we're not certain of it just yet. Thanks for the feedback.

  • @dennisbaldwin
    @dennisbaldwin  11 лет назад

    I hear you. I'm actually working on a KK2.0 upgrade at the moment and will post a vid when I'm done. I think the MultiWii has a lot of potential, but it I'm still learning a lot about it. There's no doubt the KK2.0 will be much easier to configure given the LCD display. The MWC has a LCD option, but it's an addon to the cheap board you saw in the vid.

    My motors did idle a bit when I first armed the MWC. The board requires accel calibration, but I'm pretty sure there isn't a magnetometer. To be honest, I'm not too fond of this board at the moment, but it's not bad for a first quad. It's just that my eyes have been opened to Naza and APM so it's hard to go back. I do want to get a MWC Pro just to see how that stands up. Hope you're getting close to airborne.

  • @aurisnow
    @aurisnow 11 лет назад

    Hi Dennis,
    here I am again. It is so cool you did some testing with the same gear I have. I upgraded my h100 with the Naza Lite GPS controller, added a landing skid and I am hoping to make it a good filmer with a GoPro/brushless gimbal system. I am having the hardest time with it... I use the FS TH9X radio and can't get the failsafe to work using the gear switch as we spoke a while back, but I can live with it. Now what I don't like about the Naza is that after it is armed the throttle stick feels dead from 5-10% until 45-55%, pretty unresponsive. I have this "detached" feeling from my input to the actual response from the motors. I am also trying to run 3s 4500 batteries hoping to get a decent amount of flight time. After take off (detached feeling) it hovers for maybe a minute then all of a sudden it just looses power and lands, sometimes crashes even if I punch full throttle... If I remove the Gimbal/GoPro set up it flies ok. At first I thought the motors just don't have enough power to lift all the weight but I see so many set ups on the web just like that flying ok... and it does take off no problem at first, so it does have the power. Pretty bummed. Do you have any idea of what I am probably doing wrong? I like how stable the Naza flies but it does seem to have a mind of it's own... what do you think? tks!

    • @dennisbaldwin
      @dennisbaldwin  11 лет назад

      Fully loaded are you able to hover around 50%-60% throttle? Just curious how much effort it takes for you to get off the ground when loaded up with all your gear. What do your voltage protection settings look like? Could those be getting triggered? I'd turn them off just to test....if they aren't already off.

    • @aurisnow
      @aurisnow 11 лет назад

      Dennis, thanks for keeping up with me! Throttle at 65-75% to take off and hover I guess at about 75-80%. Sometimes the altitude drops drastically with roll or pitch input. I do have the voltage protection turned off with main and att gains at ~150 and disconnecting the GPS doesn't seem to change it's behavior. Balanced carbon props and the CG is dead on center. Flying weight all loaded 1.77 kg (4500 battery). What bothers me the most is the lack of response of motors while still on ground from 10% to 45-50%. I also played with the idle speed (set one up from Recommand) without noticeable change. At this point I am almost convinced the motors are just not strong enough. Now I wonder if I could just run better motors (NTM Prop Drive Series 28-30S 900kv / 270w) with the stock HobbyWing 40A esc's, knowing those are specd for 20-30A (I already ordered six of those for hexa build). Is that totally not cool? Any other ideas? Let me know if you want to build more skateboard ramps on the backyard, as that is something I've done plenty! hahah :) cheers.

    • @dennisbaldwin
      @dennisbaldwin  11 лет назад

      aurisnow From what I'm hearing it doesn't sound like the NAZA is your problem. You probably already know this, but the motor response starting at 50% throttle is something DJI introduced in the NAZA firmware a while back. I really don't like it at all! What size props and speed motors are you flying with right now? BTW if you haven't checked out www.garagepilots.com it would be great if you could join and post in the forums. Lots of good pilots over there to help you out. Take care.

    Since my last post I was able to cal. The ESC's one at a time. Set the end points of the rudder and throttle at 125% plus. Rue calibrated the board on a very level surface ( the floors in my 300 year old house are NOT level! ) After the first cal. Of the accelerometer , when I finally was able to get the motors to start the rears would spin, the front pair would eventually spin but only with a fair increase of the throttle started to fly it but the battery was failing , it was spazzing badly

    You can calibrate the ESCs with the TX/RX as well as with the MultiWii firmware. I'm not sure which one you prefer but if you want to try it with the firmware check out my video titled "DIY Mini Quad MultiWii ESC Calibration". If you want to do it with just your TX/RX then you'll need to look at the instruction manual.

  • @dennisbaldwin
    @dennisbaldwin  11 лет назад

    Yeah I would definitely check your ESC calibration. Have you looked at your PWM values for your sticks in the GUI? If they don't have the proper values then you won't be able to arm your MultiWii.

  • @dennisbaldwin
    @dennisbaldwin  11 лет назад

    Okay, my other thought is to look at MINCOMMAND. By default it's 1000 in the source code. So you'll need to change config.h from the MWC FAQ:
    The motors still do not start, what about the minimum throttle signal send to the ESC’s?
    In some cases the ESC’s do not start with the supplied standard minimum throttle value.
    It’s possible to lower this value in order to start the ESC’s.
    One can try to lower the MINCOMMAND value with steps of 50 to 950 or 900.

    Finding a video specific to the quad that I had recently purchased was good. being easy to listen to and very informative made it great. One thing that I missed was the min&max check values. What exactly were they supposed to be?

    Do you see the USB port listed in the GUI? You need to make sure you have the proper port selected before you can connect and start seeing data from the board.

    Outstanding tutorial! I'm wanting to get my first Quad and I'm contemplating an IFLY-4 with the MultiWii, but have heard of issues with the firmware upgrades (boot loader ?), throttle not working, etc and I'm concerned I'll be pulling my hair out trying to get it working. Your vid has given me some hope. Still teetering on the precipice, but getting closer...

  • @dennisbaldwin
    @dennisbaldwin  11 лет назад

    Make sure you do the calibration sequence on a level surface. Have you done that?

  • @dennisbaldwin
    @dennisbaldwin  11 лет назад

    When you hook up the GUI what is the throttle value when the stick is all the way down? It may not be low enough to arm the quad. If I remember the MINTHROTTLE value is 1150 so you need to make sure your low throttle value is less than that. You'll either need to trim down your throttle or bump of the MINTHROTTLE in config.h. Not sure that's the problem, but just a suggestion.

  • @calebdushkin9200

    I got it to arm, but only by arming it in the GUI program. (grabbing the throttle bar and dragging it down to 900 and moving the stick on the radio to the arm position) but, the quad's props don't rotate in the idle position. Also when I give it throttle the quad seems like it is throttling in intervles, not a steady rpm's.

  • @dennisbaldwin
    @dennisbaldwin  11 лет назад

    Not sure what you mean by that. You don't have a physical port or you don't see any com ports listed in MultiWii GUI when you have everything powered up?

    Gil, have you tried flashing you MWC with the latest firmware and working from the default settings? I've found that with my 450 frame the default settings were bearable and then I started to tweak. I didn't get the twitch with the default firmware load. Let me know.

    Calibrate accel. On a level surface check with a spirit level- made changes to the PID roll, pitch and yaw both helped quad now flys but very touchy -crashed had to recall board - the real question is why the when using the GUI pitch the bird right, roll goes left, pitch it left roll goes RT

  • @jonathanhoward3664
    @jonathanhoward3664 11 лет назад

    More testing tomorrow. The question I have now is after the motors are armed should the motors run at idle or only on throttle increase - also does this board require cal. Of the Mag? Not even sure it has one plan on doing some work on the Expo and the throttle curves , any other direction or ideas would be appreciated , thanks again JDH

  • @dennisbaldwin
    @dennisbaldwin  11 лет назад

    Have you calibrated your ESCs? Also, are you flying with the AeroSky quad or using the board with a different quad? I've read that this board is very sensitive to vibes so maybe that's causing it to act weird. Definitely don't give up. When you upgrade your board I have a feeling it will be night and day.

  • @dennisbaldwin
    @dennisbaldwin  11 лет назад

    No, I'm sorry but I haven't run into this problem before. Can you clarify something for me? You mention the GUI goes blank. Are you referring to the Arduino GUI or the MWC GUI? Do you have any other Arduino devices you can test with?

  • @dennisbaldwin
    @dennisbaldwin  11 лет назад

    When you say "pitch" you're moving your right stick front and back? And when you do your roll status in the GUI moves? Just trying to understand if you may have your servo channels switched....or if you're on the right channel you may need to reverse it.

  • @abenwinUT
    @abenwinUT 11 лет назад

    Dennis, "Believe it or not". I found my problem or the problem. I was running MWC GUI under Windows 7. I have another PC with XP and I tried it there and it worked. Strange but good. Only thing is my XP PC is lots slower. Add that to your knowledge base. Keep pumping out vids. Good flying.

    • @dennisbaldwin
      @dennisbaldwin  11 лет назад

      Very good to know. I wonder what the root cause of the problem was? But sometimes it's just better to move forward and not look back :) Good luck with your setup.

    Balanced the props, helped lots. The bird flies and controls correctly the GUI display is reversed while in my hand tilt right display shows tilting left, have no answer yet. While flying the quad wobbles some - not sure where to look to fix that yet. Do-Bro balancer worked well. Level hold on the Aux channel does not work well, can that be tuned? Thanks , all the best

    I know the Naza dji is more expensive but I'm wondering if youve played with one or if you have an opinion about them? My hexa is coming with the mwc but I want the gps rth function. is the mwc capable of that or is the dji needed? Glad we found you Dennis! • @dennisbaldwin

    So does it not turn on or does it turn on and you can't arm it? It sounds like the latter. If so, have you calibrated your ESCs? If not and you need to help doing that then just let me know. I'm not saying it's the answer but it's a good starting place. Are you flying with the stock AeroSky transmitter?

    Dennis, thanks for the reply. It's the MWC GUI that goes blank. And unfortunately I don't have any other Arduino devices. This is my first try at one. I have tried different Arduino versions and different MWC versions and all do the same. I guess I could order another 328P FCB and see if that's the problem. Is it possible there is something in the code that might cause this? I don't have anything plugged into the FCB, just have it hooked up to my PC via USB cable.

    Hi Dennis. Just got my aerosky and like to ask a few questions. How do I know what version of multiwii I have? This a Aerosky h100 RTF. Everything looks like the one you did for your subscriber. Before I follow your setup video im curious which board I have and what version software is on it. Thanks in advance!

  • @dennisbaldwin
    @dennisbaldwin  11 лет назад

    I've worked with a couple of the H100 RTFs and they shipped with version 2.0 of the MultiWii software. If you have the MultiWii GUI I believe once you hook it up it will display the version you're currently running. Unfortunately I don't have it in front of me so I'm not 100% sure. Also, if your MWC is the red one it's known as the X-Rock version. This is nearly identical, from what I can tell, to the MultiWii Flip board. I hope this helps. Dennis, great vid. I learned a lot from it already. I'm stuck on a problem and perhaps you can help. I have a Multiwii 328P FCB. When I open Arduino 1.0.1, and Multiwii 2.0 GUI and start the GUI, after a few seconds (time varies) the GUI goes blank. I selected several 328P board definitions in Arduino (COM5) and it's always the same. Goes blank. At a loss. Have you come across this? Would appreciate any feedback you have. This is my first time using Arduino.

    First try set the throttle trim to mid point before your calibrate the ESC. Once you have calibrated the ESC then you will have room to trim the throttle down.
    Second, you may have to switch motro 3 & 9 and 10& 11 around. As the instruction manual is not right, Now you need to change the normal or reverse setting for pitch and roll too.

    Good video Dennis. I am using a DragonLink transmitter and I noticed you mentioning a Min and MAX check. I can't seem to get my motors to arm but when I look in the MW gui I can see the throttle moving. Any help is appreciated.

    • @dennisbaldwin
      @dennisbaldwin  11 лет назад

      Ken, thanks for the feedback. If you can't arm, and your ESCs are calibrated, then definitely check the minthrottle command as discussed here:
      www.multiwii.com/wiki/index.php?title=Config.h
      If I recall the default value is around 1150. With the TX I was originally using at the time the default value wasn't low enough for me to arm so I actually had to trim down, but ultimately changed my config.h.

    To cut it short, I downloaded all the necessary software, and opened arduino 1.0.5 hope that's the correct version, but I can't see the menu bar with the define and config.h. How do I get to that. I really have no clue. TIA

    Have you checked your sticks in the MultiWii GUI to make sure that the aileron & elevator are connected to the proper channels? Can you get it to hover or are you testing while on the ground? Also, check out garagepilots . com and please sign up. We'll be happy to help you out in the forums. Good luck.

    Dennis Baldwin , I just got my MultiWii 328P from hobbyking. I have done all the calibration and stuff, but I can't get it to arm the board. I'm using an HK 6 Channel TX.
    I have Afro 12 amp ESCs, I selected the afro ESCs in the config.h and uncommented the board and sensors too. Is it mandatory to calibrate the sensors again before arming as u did in the video? Could you please suggest me what can be going wrong?

    • @dennisbaldwin
      @dennisbaldwin  10 лет назад +1

      Have you calibrated your ESCs individually? Yes, if you changed your config make sure to do the calibration routine before you arm. You don't need to do it every time, but definitely if you'd loaded new firmware on the board. Check out www.garagepilots.com and please post in the forums if you need any more assistance. Good luck getting in the air!

      Thank you for helping a noob here :)
      I did calibrate the ESCs individually, just by full throttle method mentioned in many forums. Is there anything else I can do to calibrate?
      And now as soon as I take off my quad, its starts to drift very badly making it very hard to control, crashed a few times already :p
      Will tuning PID make it stable? Or is there anything else?

    Hey Dennis I have been watching your video repeatedly, and have a couple questions as I configure my quad. How do you adjust the throttle or Aux 1? what initial channel do you have it on, with toggle switch all the way up my AUX 1 shows 1030 will plugged in then I switching down 1 it matches all the roll yaw, at 1544 AUX1 then all the way down on toggle switch for channel it jumps to 2020 AUX1. is this Correct?
    2nd Question, I calib the acc for the gyro and it has all the lines running together except the Z blue line, its at 255?? Even when im done writing it and testing the gyro the light doesn't blink for me to show its responsive. Ive had so much trouble with this, even it sometimes engaging the blades to spin and then sometimes it doesn't for throttle bottom right to start. Im lost and even xheli cant even help me.
    I really hope you can.
    Thank you

    Are yours secured using the threaded nut? BTW, check out garagepilots . com and please post your question over there. There are several MWC guys over there that can help you out including myself.

  • @dennisbaldwin
    @dennisbaldwin  11 лет назад

    Kevin, the MWC does support RTH although I've never used it. You may want to start with that since it will be much cheaper than the Naza setup. You can give that a try and see how it works out for you. Sounds like an interesting application for the technology. Please keep me posted on how things come along. It would be great if you could join us at garagepilots . com and we'll be glad to answer any questions. And it would be great if you could share the progress on your project. Thanks!

    Hello Dennis, I'm a new subscriber to your channel. I own an Aerosky quad as pictured in this video, but haven't flown it for about a couple of years due to a board glitch. After surfing RUclips and finding your video (today!), I followed your steps successfully & uploaded the firmware back on to the board... however, the board will not finish its sequence and arm/bind. This was a problem about 2 years ago. My question if you have time- can I install a CC3D board on this quad? My guess is the MultWii is just a bad board.
    Thanks,
    Marc M.

    • @dennisbaldwin
      @dennisbaldwin  9 лет назад

      +MarstevMal I really think that CC3D will suit you well. It should work nicely with your Aerosky based on my recollection of the build. You'll find the CC3D configuration much more intuitive as well. Another option to check out is the Naze32. You can check it out here: ruclips.net/video/EenM7nQAylM/видео.html

    • @MarstevMal
      @MarstevMal 9 лет назад

      +Dennis Baldwin , thanks for the reply! I did go ahead and purchase a CC3D, just finished setting it up today. I haven't flown the Aerosky, yet, but ran a motor check, etc... seems everything is going to work fine (so far!). Thank you again... I'll check out the video.

    I have been having issues with my Aerosky Quadcopter. The motors aren't synced. When the quadcopter is in idle, the motors are synced, but when I try to move the quadcopter up in the air, it flips in some diagonal direction. I even looked at the MultiWii GUI the motors aren't in sync. Do you have any recommendations?

    • @dennisbaldwin
      @dennisbaldwin  11 лет назад

      Have you checked that all your motor directions and props are setup correctly? This is one of the easiest things to overlook that will cause the behavior you describe. Double check that you have everything setup properly.

    • @superdude9077
      @superdude9077 9 лет назад

      Dennis Baldwin I know it's been a while, but the computer I was using to upload firmware to the quadcopter crashed and I lost all of my data. I re-created the multiwii setting you have with you video, but the propeller/motors/ESCs (I really don't know what it causing the problem) are out of sync. I have confirmed everything has been put together correctly. I have calibrated the ESCs multiple times, using multiwii, and just hooking one ESC up to the transmitter one at a time, then calibrating it using the radio. Note: I have crashed the quadcopter a few times and have had to replace 3 of the arms and re-solder all components connected to the board? Could my components be busted? Or is it firmware related?

    Hey Dennis, my aerosky quad flies up and yaws right, crashing to the ground. It looks like a reverse gyro problem on a kk board. My stock gyro calibration doesn't work. Is there a way to calibrate the gyro on aerosky quad some other way? Also to arm my quad, I have to move my sticks in different positions other than the traditional throttle stick down right position. To disarm is the same. Can you tell me what the problem on my quad is? Is it a gyro problem if it spins to the right nonstop?

    • @hetrokean16
      @hetrokean16 10 лет назад

      Excuse me, I meant my stick gyro calibration doesn't work.

    • @dennisbaldwin
      @dennisbaldwin  10 лет назад

      Your sticks may be reversed. Check your rudder channel reversing because under normal circumstance it should be down and to the right. Also, please check out the forums at www.garagepilots.com and consider posting there if you need any more assistance. Thanks!

      -IceWing- I'm not sure what part of the vid you're referring to, but normally I use the keyboard to open files and search for content within them. In this case I opened the Arduino project file and selected the config.h file from the list.
