I have to say that chickens are some of the most fun "pets" we've had. They are intelligent, and our roo in charge is so gentle and a gentleman to all of the ladies, he won't eat until they do. He's about the size of a 20 pound turkey, he used to bounce thru the yard. Not so much now, he's a big boy but he can still chase the other roo Louie. Poor Louie.

I love chickens so much. They are the coolest little creatures. Theyrr so intelligent and prehistoric. I had a rooster that would lay on me when i was napping in the hammock. He followed me everywhere. He trusted me. There was a hawk that regularly visited our farm and id always chase it off eventually the chickens knew to run towards me when a hawk flew over. Saved one, one time, the hawk had the rooster and i ran up to it and the rooster got away but his head was pretty damaged. I brought him inside for a few days and he healed up.
I had a rescue chicken as a kid. Cleo would follow us around and come when called. We didn't have a fenced yard, but she knew exactly how far to go without leaving the property. This brings such good memories.🐔 rule!👍
Chickens are delightful animals to have around people and especially children! They actually PURR, just like a a cat, when “petted” or stroked.
Birds are fantastic animals. We should protect them. I thank this sanctuary for doing so.
These roosters are so lucky to be rescued and living so happy life while majority of their siblings are suffering on farm and killed in slaughter houses!!!

Roosters and chickens are awesome pets. They are funny in their own ways and their personalities are 👍. I wish more people would be kind to these animals.
I have several roosters and kids don’t like my oldest male, Sentinal, because he looks terrifying. Sentinel became blind in one eye when he was 5 weeks old. He’s 4.5 years old now and his blind eye has turned into a protruding white mass. The older roosters would sneak up on him and scare him, but now Sentinal is the King of the Roost. It took a long time to realize he didn’t have to live in fear as I would let him know where I was when I approached him. All I said was, “Sentinal, on your right.” and he would turn his head so he could see where I was. He’s really sweet now and sometimes I’ll walk up to his blind side and pick him up. He startled the first several times, but quickly learned it was just me.

God bless you for rescuing these roosters. He is so cute the way he follows you around. We had a dachshund dog growing up named Alex he used to follow my Dad everywhere and when my Dad would go somewhere without him he would sit on the porch and cry until Daddy got home. Then when Daddy woul go to talk to him Alex would just turn his head like don't speak to me. It was so cute.

Chickens are such amazing animals, and have the biggest personalities. One of my chooks, Levi, used to jump up on me and climb up my back with her little claws. She doesn’t do it anymore, which is both sad and a relief, because I had to be very careful with her riding on my shoulder as to not spook her.

@@Militant_Vegan Vegetarian and vegan meals can be so tasty and yummy, though, if you just know how to cook or at least know a few base recipes to play with. I have such a diverse and more interesting diet now that I never eat meat at home, only on rare occasions when I am out somewhere and there are no other options. I basically just follow my intuition when it comes to eating. And on those rare occasions that I do eat meat, I always take a moment to thank the animal(s) who gave their life for the meal I am about to eat, and send them love and wishes that they are living their best life on the other side now.
@@DolphinsPlayingInAquaMoonlight that is so true! People say plant based is a restrictive diet but in my personal experience it feels the opposite. So many animal eaters I know refuse to even try something because it’s vegan, even though they eat yummy vegan foods all the time like Oreos, falafel, mr noodles etc. So many delicious foods to cook with like tofu, tempeh, seitan, tvp, lentils, chickpeas, jackfruit, nutritional yeast, kala namak, and the entire world of different nuts, seeds, grains, beans, and mushrooms other than just peanuts, sesame, wheat, brown, and white. If anything I think the traditional diet is restrictive for only sourcing proteins from cows, pigs, chickens and once in a while another animal. It’s boring lmao.
However I do want to just note that no animal gives their lives for us to have a meal, we take their lives from them. Whenever I go out I try to make sure there’s a vegan option for me, but sometimes the vegan option is a salad with no dressing, cheese, croutons, or bacon bits. Or sometimes it’s fries and onion rings. I remind myself that I can live with a single boring meal, I won’t starve, but the animals can’t. It comes back to life being more valuable than taste. It is hard though at first I used to eat animals when I went out too. One thing I’ve started doing is cooking a plant based protein and bringing it with me in a thermos. Like when I’m going to a Chinese restaurant without tasty vegan options I’ll quickly cook sweet n sour tofu and I’ll add that to a veggie based dish, or I’ll bring vegan meatballs and vegan parmesan to an Italian restaurant and add it to spaghetti. It is a bit of an inconvenience, but it’s worth it because it means no animals had to be killed for my pleasure (and I don’t have to eat that stupid salad lol). It also helps build demand for animal free foods. No judgment going ur way at all btw. I have my own struggles with resisting my grandmas non vegan cookies. Just thought it might help u out 🙂
I love my chickens. I have retired birds to 6 mo olds and they are better than tv. My oldest chicken was 16 before she passed. They really are special creatures.

I had a piegeon she acted as like this chicken all the time standing on my shoulder and on my head😢😭.One day she got lost and never came back.I miss her today.This video reminds me of those days.Thank U.

the roosters are precious! we just started raising chickens this year and the older our girls get the funnier and friendlier they are. never knew i could love birds :)
Yes chickens turned me onto birds too. They were such endearing pets.
I had a bunch of chickens some years ago and found them to be incredibly sweet and kind . I raised them up from chicks .I would work the farm and they would follow me everywhere..after they grew up they would travel to other farms and hangout with the people..They always made it home to roost..I miss them a lot....wonderful creature's.

Chickens are the most cleanest, affectionate and intelligent of all our domestic animals. I have three coddled and pampered girls. One is a red jungle fowl I rescued from drowning in Maui, 15 years ago.

We were given 6 little chickens, and 3 large hens for eggs when I was in college living with my parents. Never had to worry about eggs for yrs and my parents built a little area for them to sleep in. They were the best and after a year, our dogs and chickens pretty much coexisted with them, acting as their watchdogs because there were alot of feral cats in the neighborhood that would try to jump the fence. Its been a few yrs but all the little chickens passed away due to those cats along with 1 of the larger hens, and the other 2 passed away due to old age. Still miss them to this day and it was just cool to see 3 dogs just let chickens roam free while they just sat there
My cats are pretty cordial with my chickens. There's some kind of mutual respect. I'm surprised to hear that feral cats would attack them.
Chickens like cats and dogs and other animals all have personalities. My son just raised some hens, a white one has taken a liking to my son, and follows him every where. Amazon car hop trays

Aw, The rooster is as loving as my rooster was. I raised him from a chick and was able to hold him even after he became huge and big. He was meant to be a A meat rooster and he had a huge breast that was caused by genetic engineering for breast meat. But I loved him so much and I believe he had a great affection for me as he would come into the kitchen through the back door and walk around until he found me. He would be on the floor next to me looking up at me and I just could tell he wanted to be picked up. When I had him in my arms and I would stroke his head and neck his eyes would close in happiness. Thank you for rescuing these roosters! They do have affection and Love for the people that they choose and just like other birds, they can become depressed when the person that they love is gone. The beautiful environment your roosters enjoy warms my heart and brought back some bittersweet memories.

It's rare to get a really well handled and sweet rooster. Most roosters are friendly if they're handled well until the hormones kick in and they want to kill you! He seems sweet though!

Am I the only one who's impressed that the rooster could jump so high he was practically flying!? I mean how!? 🤯
a chicken that weight around 2kg is a type of big chicken that is too heavy to fly because their body grow faster than their wing. A type of small chicken that grow their wing faster than their body can fly like an overweight pigeon when they are young but will stop flying when they are adult at around 1.3kg in weight.

The roosters that were around when my sisters were in ag were raised from chicks in a very loving, social environment. Then one day, one of the roosters named Minced Garlic woke up one day, chose violence and never looked back. His day was never successful if he didn't chase someone through the ag garden like a mad man. I remember one time hearing about when people from the county were coming from to the school and our now roommate was in charge of putting the chickens up so that they weren't running all over the place making a scene. All but Minced Garlic had been riled up into the coop but he got out and chased her down until she climbed on top of a table for her own safety, calling him something along the lines of "you feathery bastard" as he was running in circles around the table ready to chase her again if she decides to come down. That was essentially what the county people saw when they first walked out to the garden. I thought it was funny and I still do.
I also want that! A service boy who carries me to my bed every night and tucks me in. Totally understandable that he wants this!
I think they all get along because they're all roosters, if there were hens around they'd all be fighting over them!

I rescued a fancy (Dutch Capucine) pigeon on a cold day. He loved sitting on my head. I didn’t really mind, but he was kind of heavy after a while. He got angry if I wouldn’t let him do it.
I have a bunch of chickens and ducks and geese and i love them so much .. my fav ones ate my bantums they are so cool .. i have a few roosters that are my best friends the hens alot of times will jump up on me when roosters are after some lovin. Lol but yes i love my birds they are extremly smart !!

I have 1 pet chicken and 3 normal chooks. Buckle up cuz i got a whole pet story
It started with a rooster, his name was falks. Now this ol rooster didnt trust me too much at the start but eventually he started to soften up to me and would sit on my legs and just generally chill round me whenever i was in the coop. Now he was solitary at the time but i got him a wifey [which never trusted me no matter how hard i tried lol] and the two had chicks.
Now the chicks were a whole different story. These lil buggers had no fear whatsoever of me cuz i never chased em, i never picked them up nor did i ever scare them into the coop, they were always treated with the utmost chill i could offer. This then led to them becoming suuuper chill chicks who learned that i was a particularly fun thing to jump onto. At one time i had a record of 7 young chooks jump onto my arms and head at one time [prob one of the happiest days for me] and man was it a sight.
Then, giant plot twist. 5 minutes before i came home one day, my dogs got out. And the new dog we got recently was not accustomed to being too friendly with creatures other than cats and well, pack hunting behaviour. All i can say is i came home with only 1 chook left. Absolutely devastating. All of my almost hand raised chicks and their beloved parents gone, just 1 meat chick surviving. Now these meat chicks i had plans to not get close to and butcher em but no use for that now, so i took the last lil chick and set up a coop for him, being even more careful to lock the dogs up [even to this day i dont interact with the dogs, my family does but not me] and make sure the lil rooster was always secure. Now, once this lil rooster got older i named him Niwatori [chicken in japanese] and also taught him to jump onto my arm whenever i patted on it.
He was a lovely rooster, always chill and grew lovely frills n comb. I got him 3 lil lassies and boy was he a happy chookie.
Another bad plot twist, one night a quoll got into the coop and no more niwatori ;_; only 3 ladies left. The night after that, it got in again and now only 1 lady left.
In fear of her also being killed, i took her inside and kept her in a crate. To this day she still sleeps in that same crate. Every night i bring her back inside and she sleeps in the corner of my room in that lil crate. Now. We get to the good part.
Her name is celine, she is an isa brown mixed with a bit of sily and some sort of barbed rock or other striped feather breed? [thats all i can tell from her comb, feet n feathers] but her nickname is queen celine! She even has a little crown to go with it. Now she is not stressed out by this at all or anything trust me, in fact she loves cuddles and tells me exaaactly how shes feeling [pretty verbally too]
She purrs like a cat when she comfy [when i make the noise she does it too >:)] and loves to look around my room inspecting mirrors and exclaiming her interest in things, shes a very cute n funny chook i must say
You can hold her like a baby and she loves small spaces, but beware, she is a sleeve monster and tries to climb into your sleeves and get stuck
Overall, shes a gem.
I also got her a hubby n 2 friends but shes a bit bossy to them-

Awe love this! We used to have a rooster 🐓 (Ralph) growing up that my sister won at a fair as a chick 🐣 so he was so close with us he followed everywhere we went and played…he was one of the gang! ❤️ My dad grew to love Ralph so much that he became my dads bar (that he owned) mascot and he pretty much stayed there when he wasn’t with us kids…if you haven’t guessed yet this is in the country! 😂
Eventually the neighbors next to the bar who where complete A-holes let there killer Dobermans out after Ralph and he had no chance. It broke all of our 💔!
In Ralph’s honor my dad who was 100% blind named all of his talking alarm clocks after Ralph…since his crow woke us up every morning. So my siblings continue the same tradition 30+ years later! ❤️

I found a home for my rooster, I had to throw in 2 young wyndotts to go with him. But Roy was a sweet rooster, I just didn't want fertile eggs.
I have 2 pet ducks, Cosmo and Wanda, Cosmo will fly after me and get right in front of me demanding treats and belly rubs and he gets flustered if you don't scratch under the feathers.

We moved to Alabama on a farm and had chickens. One of our roosters, he was huge, I named him Dexter and we loved each other! In the winter he slept in the garage, I think he would have slept in my room if my roommate would have let me and he would run to me when I called him I loved him so much and when we got some hens he took care of them until unfortunately someone, a raccoon or coyote killed my Dexter but that is the life here on a farm everyone I have loved seems to get killed. 😢

I love all animals too , I understand I don't eat animals either , my aunt has chickens and rooters and they are her pets , but I have to admit I am terrified of a flogging rooster, my aunt gave that one away I'm so glad because that one would come out of no where at attack everyone it was a crazy rooster but she still didn't have the heart to have it killed she has a little chicken it lays little green eggs I don't know the name of them but that chicken is so sweet and has the most funniest personality she makes little children diapers and she brings them in the house for a bath and she watches TV them chickens are pretty neat I think they are misunderstood, she got a big dog to protect her chickens so prey birds and fox don't kill her chickens
