Oh gosh, I'm new to this kind of combat gameplay and I'm so overwhelmed
easiest way not to be overwhelmed is to use martial characters like fighter or ranger or even barbarian, their combat exists of mostly punching or shooting enemies and is really straightforward

If your band new, don't worry it's supposed to feel like you need a masters degree in tactics & strategies 🤣 *Although once you get past the character creator & actually start playing, it's surprising how fast it all makes sense*
To endear the game towards noobs(myself) an option needs to be simple then become complex as the game goes on, not be complicated straight away.
It’s not a game made for noobs, neither is Path of Exile or Elden Ring and they’re all 10/10 games.

@@The0nlyy Elden Ring is more lenient towards casual players though. It's the easiest Fromsoft game if you use all the tools at your disposal. So, in a way, it's made for noobs. That doesn't mean it isn't a 10/10 tho, as it can easily become the hardest Fromsoft game if you avoid using Sprit Ashes.
Never played an RPG before, nor D&D, but I'm having the time of my life playing this game.
Go play Divinity 2 when you get the chance, literally the game that put Larian on the spot.

Never play DnD or any game like this, jumping in blind, don't understand most of it, only using basic attack and abusing environment is really fun, just killed most goblin leader by shoving them to the pit.
I've always wanted to kill a goblin! Not in any game, but real life. Unfortunately, none exist
If combat is too hard, pick high charisma characters to talk your way out of it. Also, put the fame on easy mode. 😊

I'd say the combat really isn't as complicated as people are making it out to be. It can be a little overwhelming to start with but you pick it up fairly quickly. Just read out all your character abilities and start thinking of ways to use them in tandem. For example I'll have a wizard use a sleep spell and then a rogue do a stealth melee attack to guarantee a kill. Only takes a couple hours to get a decent grasp of.

@@richarddutton1981 i've never played this type of game before either but i've noticed attacks miss basically all the time when you're up super close. if you wanna do melee, do it from a distance. but if you're doing a ranged attack you can't be too far either because those also seem to miss a lot of the time

Limited amounts of free HP recovery. Most forms of healing end up costing something. Potions are in limited supply, spells use up slots that need to be replenished by taking time resting, that sort of thing. "free" healing is rare.
Wait, so is every enemies reaction a opportunity attack? Or can different enemies do different ones
An enemies reaction is based off what you (the player does), different spells or actions have reactions. An opportunity attack is a reaction if the opponent moves away from you without disengaging.

im on my 20th hour on this game on balanced difficulty. The story gets you in actually. The combat is a mixed bag and you really got to spend time each round to think about your move. Yall just need to know the basics and the rest u just learn along the way (its even Okay not to learn the complicated parts.. just know that theres a dice roll to determine combat outcomes.. just wing it). Its not for everyone

See so many people disappointed by the combat, the answer is the combat isn’t for everyone they did the combat just fine. many others including myself actually enjoyed the combat it’s a lot different then most other games so don’t worry about the combat get the game try it yourself if you don’t like it and it’s not for you refund it

Lol everyone saying the combat is boring must have the attention span of a ferret on energy drink. The mechanics are deep and challenging especially if you play on hard and enemies use powerful abilities you have to think about the best way to counter.

Coming from Divinity 2, spell casting being locked by each day seems inconvinient. Hopefully there are more cantrips.
