If you fail at lockpicking a chest you can actually carry them with you in your inventory and bring them to camp for your other party members to give it a try. Also if you come across any crates you can store them in your inventory too and stack them to get up to higher places
I'm loving newcomers to larian games enjoying the depth and multiple options. Div2:OS blew my mind, I'm loving people enjoying the modern CRPGs. Not saying you guys are new it's just nice to share something I love
Thanks Zoe! I also recommend right clicking on tough enemies and examining them. You'll be able to see their features, stats and, importantly, their resistances and weaknesses 👌🏻
If your companions are far away, they will not automatically be pulled into combat and you can freely switch to them. They will only join the fight, if they are spotted, you walk past them, or they attack, so by toggling all your party members into hiding mode and funnelling them into combat one by one using (sneak) attacks, you can ideally pick off half of the enemy team, already, before they even get their first turn. Also, enemies' perception seems to be pretty bad, so if you keep your distance as a rogue, you can make almost every of your attacks a sneak attack for a lot of easy damage.
Thank you for this suggestion - BG3 is my first real foray into D&D - I am loving the complex strategies that can be set up, and I hadnt yet tried this one. BG3 is perhaps one of the best games i have played in my very long gaming life.
Definitely got the karmic dice backwards. If you disable it, it removes the failure protection. Enabling it prevents failure streaks. The game outright says how it works.
Great tips however ability scores aren't tied to race anymore so racial features are the only reason to pick one race over another. Another handy tip, always keep in mind what spells take concentration so you don't accidentally end your spell effects early
And customize your hotbars! Those little plus and minus icons in the bottom right allow you to add more rows to your main hotbars section, which in turn lets you have more abilities to look at without having to click the various subcategory buttons. Honestly the freedom of customization on the hotbars in this game is some of the best I've seen! The radial customization is pretty great for controller users too! Though I think some quality of life options like being able to swap the order of your radial menus and pick which one it defaults to when you bring them up would be nice.
I love a good push off a ledge, although it sometimes makes loot recovery impossible, so you need to think about it before you do it. I once had to restart a big difficult battle because I chucked a boss into an endless void, with all of their nice loot.
Lol, I did that while fighting a giant spider, sent it flying right of the ledge, reloaded the fight because I didn't know if it had any loot, only to beat it a second time and get something that I didn't really want😅
I did that with one of the three bosses in the goblin den. The bugbear. I'm pretty sure that means that I missed out on his tadpole for boosting my power. It still made the fight a hell of a lot easier so I'm not really regretting it too much
Did this to a boss character that was walking over a bridge. Destroyed the parts that held the bridge and she fell to her death but couldn't recover any loot 😅. Reloaded, and after a tough battle I was well rewarded
regarding enemy positioning etc. I fought some enemies in a place that had a little room in the corner - so i went into that room, so all the ranged attackers who ran after me had to go to this little corner, making it much easier for my melee characters to deal with them.
I'm sure plently of people have mentioned it somewhat already but Karmic Dice does not make the game harder for you as you said, it simply makes the dice rolls more average to prevent long streaks of good or bad rolls so if you've gotten 3 bad rolls karmic dice will prevent that for going on too long.
Preventing good streaks means it should be disabled immediately. Throughout the game, you're obviously going to have more good rolls than bad, for the simple fact that if the majority of your rolls were bad, you wouldn't be able to complete the game; you'd be dying constantly. So since most rolls are good, preventing good streaks will end up harming you more than preventing bad streaks will help you.
@@meunomenaoethiago284in a real dnd game the dm gets to interpret those bad rolls through the narrative. The computer is not as creative and not as inclined to deliver a strong narrative. Supposedly before release karmic dice had a scaling problem with armor class. But it seems that it is fixed now. I will be playing with karmic dice on to smooth out dice rolls just like my dm would be smoothing or interpreting actions for me.
@@basedplants The game is honestly quite flexible, so i don't think a bad streak will honestly end you just maybe put you into unfavorable or unwanted situations. It's the problem of the fact it's not really RNG if you have the karmic die on is what gets me.

Thanks for the tips! My tip is that when you reach level 4 you are given an option to choose ability score increase or a feat. The ability score option is at the top of the list! This might be easy to miss since you're given a long list of feats and it can be overwhelming 😅 Also note the weapon and armor profeciencies of each character. If your rogue wears armor they're not proficient in, they may not be able to sneak. Also if they're proficient, they can use a weapon's special moves.
Bookmarking this for when I'm brave enough to give this game a go 😂 I've never played anything like this before, but I'm finding it all very intriguing.. and very intimidating.
Honestly it's best just to dive in, the game does a really good job of introducing and explaining mechanics and there're various difficulty options including on for a more story based, less combat focused campaign
I keep forgetting that you have to use "Disengage" before moving away from enemies who are very close to you - and then keep getting hit by reaction attacks as a result. :(
@@Seraphiel123I think its because disengage just gives the enemy disadvantage to hit you (they pick the lower of two rolls). I've both failed and succeeded at disengaging.
Karmic dice also affects your dice, so you should also warn people that their own attacks will miss more consistently as well as the enemy attacks m. I had it off and actually turned it back on after about 50 hours because combat felt pretty frustrating due to the amount of times attacks would miss. I'd rather the enemies hit me and I can actually hit them than have 3 rounds of combat where only one attack lands from either side. Nearly 200 hours in early access and I had them on during that as well, just feels better overall tbh.
Do you and this channel actually know how karmic dice work?? 😂 It balances it all out, so make sit less random... It doesn't mean you always miss more of enemies hit more.

Karmic dice makes *all* dice, not just your opponents “weighted” in a sense. It’s more like bad luck protection than anything else, and is important due to the way us humans perceive probability and luck. It’s the same way xcom fudges percentages because our brains are stupid
Yeah, I don't think she understands karmic dice, unless she is saying it is bugged. According to the devs it just gives a slight bonus to all die rolls. So it should help you as often as it hurts you. She's right that more attack rolls hitting will speed up combat but I feel she's blowing it out of proportion.

Emm shield dwarfs do not get +2 str in the full released version. That was the case in early access but not any more. Ability Score points are now associated with the Class that players will choose.
I vaguely remember a dev saying the karmic dice thing had been addressed in a post-launch hotfix/patch but I could be wrong about that. (edit: which, to be clear, the upshot I vaguely recall is it favouring enemies was a bug)
it's still weighted dice for all type of shit, true random just gives you better chances and the most important thin .... we don't know how exactly mechanically it works, what adv/bonus it gives for checks, attack rolls, etc. Specific "use-case" for situations, not just percentage formula
@@nickrubin7312If it fits the description, it would be intentionally implemented to only reduce the risk of failure streaks, without affecting success rolls. E.g. a "increase chance of good roll" modifier that is increased with every consecutive failure. If it affects other things than failure streaks, it seems it should have a more comprehensive description.
I think you can change the stat bonuses of the races @Eurogamer. I made my Barbarian a Dragonborn and could choose which stats to improve. It makes it so you can match any race with any class, which is good.
Actually using stealth during combat made a big difference for me. I kept trying to use my rogues like warriors and was dealing 5 damage but taking 15. Now, I try to position my rogues into high ground, engage stealth and execute stealth attacks before combat even commences. Also, I now try and out my characters into stealth whenever possible to keep taking advantage of stealth attacks whenever possible during combat. Getting a couple of big hits off early on was the difference between winning and losing a lot of battles.
It DEFINATLY takes some getting used to as I’ve never liked games like xcom and other strategic combat games. I prefer more action RPG’s like The Witcher 3. But the controls even on console are SURPRISINGLY easy to learn and the amount of freedom in the game is impressive! Could definitely use some actual tutorials though.
You don’t get racial stat bonuses anymore you can put 2 and 1 into any stat no matter your race. What the races give you are things like weapon proficiency and traits like dark vision
Resting too much can also make some quests fail. Rest too much and halsin from the Druid grove will be killed or the Druid grove will be warded. Don’t rest excessively.

I'm super new to Baldur's Gare in general and I have never played DND. I was wondering how I was barely level 2 and I was losing so many times and is that option that is the one making it difficult for me. 😅
Yeah, the inclusion of karmic dice, and especially keeping it on by default, was a baffling move. It was literally the first thing I did after installing the game (turning it off).
First time ever playing a DnD game and im super overwhelmed. Ended up picking bard and im getting my butt whooped in most situations that I can talk my way out of.
This game is really difficult I thought it would be fun since I love character customization and I like the rpg aspect but the fighting is so hard. I’m used to playing Skyrim and I find that fun this however.. idk I really want to like it since it is a very expensive game also I have never played dnd before.
Really enjoying the game its my first D&D game and turn based when I found out at release I bought Star Citzean but got it the week after and so glad I did the game is stunning and I'm quite enjoying the combat!

I think BG3 has done what ER did for dark souls, made it mainstream

I don’t think karmic dice does what you think it does. According to Larian it prevents winning or losing streaks while otherwise maintaining the same level of RNG.
Karmic dice was on, i started my 1st playthrough today and in the helm's room of the ship all 4 of my guys (i had the brain with me) missed their attack on the boar thingy. So yeah i'm not even sure if this thing does anything beneficial for the player.
I found the camping mechanic non intuitive. I was exploring hoping to find the bloody campsite, but it is a teleport thingy. Not a big fan of that actually.

Karmic dice actually smooths out randomness of rolls so it's actually good to have on for beginners not bad.

The issue is that it was broken & seemed to favour enemies over players. May have been fixed now though.

Well, racial features, but also roleplaying, unique interactions, looks, and personal preference!
And customize your hotbars!

Games pretty good, best game ever....Nay. I will say a lot of the battles take way to long. Game kinda gets boring if you play it daily.

This was made before release so fyi you can choose any race for any class. They got rid of race advantages in terms of plusses to ability scores.

Karmic dice is ridiculous, especially if it’s a default setting. This is basically a D&D simulator; there shouldn’t be loaded dice involved.

I don’t think karmic dice does what you think it does. According to Larian it prevents winning or losing streaks while otherwise maintaining the same level of RNG.

Karmic dice was on, i started my 1st playthrough today and in the helm's room of the ship all 4 of my guys (i had the brain with me) missed their attack on the boar thingy. So yeah i'm not even sure if this thing does anything beneficial for the player.

I found the camping mechanic non intuitive. I was exploring hoping to find the bloody campsite, but it is a teleport thingy. Not a big fan of that actually.
