6/6 spore Druid necromancer wizard is awesome. Grab the staff of cherished necromancy in act 3 and scribe circle of death as a wizard spell. You’ll heal for 18hp every attack and you can spam that skill endlessly. And it doesn’t hurt your undead. So good!

I think the fact that you positioned these according to fun really helps sort out why they're positioned the way they are. I'll admit, especially with rogue, there's some untapped challenge run potential with that one and Dashing for days is just the absolute funniest thing when you start cheesing out Radiating Orb and Reverb nonsense to shut down entire battlefields, but I've always had an affinity for the rogue and paladin. In 5e, paladin just doesn't have the same appeal as it used to for me, though I love bard, monk, cleric, wizard and, oddly, Hunter rangers.

i really feel like they should give the champion the feature to freely equip weapons during combat or at least for a bonus action. letting you show off all those shiny weapons. that would also slot in nicely with the extra fighting style you get.

    • @JasonDunna
      @JasonDunna  5 месяцев назад +12

I LOVE that idea! Would make sense too since the Champion fighter is a bit lacklustre compared to the battle master and the eldritch knight. Even as a free action it doesn’t break the game I don’t think, there’s probably a mod for it being created as we speak hahaha

Honestly, I’m not a huge fan of how Druids work in BG3. I think they are so much better in the tabletop version. I was also not particularly impressed with the way they handled summoning for druids either. (I’m pretty much just salty that they can’t summon animals. Only fey, elementals, and zombies. I don’t care for any of those.) also, the classes they added - Land, Moon, Spores - those are literally my least favorite druid subclasses…

Bard is my absolute favorite. With the right concept and build they breeze through any dialogue like no one else. And bards get the funniest dialogue options, too. Best entertaining conversation monkey 😂

@@JasonDunna Yeah, there is 3 Party Limit mods i know of. Party Limit begone used to always break each time a Hotfix demanded a Script Textender Update, until the Legacy version was here that doesen't need script extender.
Then i discovered Aether's No Party Limits and brandnew Configuarble Party Limit. Allows you to set your Party limit freely up to 16 members incliding Hirelings and Friends if you play Co op. But those two are easier to install with BG3MM instead of having to use lose files^^
Regarding difficulty, there is by now mods for that, too. Either you can use "Sit this one out", if you fear a fight is too easy otherwise. Or you can use Harder Bosses on Tactician. Valkana's Undead Encounters, Encounter Overhaul etc if you want more challenge without needeing to play the still partly buggy Honor mode ;)

I'm new to DnD, so when I was researching classes I specifically wanted to play as a caster that didn't necessarily do a lot of direct damage but could CC, talk his way out of situations, debuff and whatnot. I almost picked bard, but I enjoy cosmic horror. So the Pact of the Tome GOOlock was perfect for me. I kept everyone their original monoclass the first playthrough and I had a ton of fun with it.
He'd knock someone off a ledge with EB, hypnotize big groups and misty step away so the other party members could go to town, and at later levels telekinesis and the hold spells just trivialized encounters. It made every encounter fun to strategize, and balanced mode was easy enough that I didn't feel the need to use his concentration for haste much. Also, with all of the deception options in dialogue I was constantly getting Astarion's inspiration. I wish there was more subclass-specific dialogue, but I would play that class again.

Interesting list, but I disagree with you about rogues. I feel like they're essential to the party, between the stealth, the damage sneak attack can do, and them being skill monkeys with expertise. I don't think you can roll higher than a rogue with expertise on a skill, unless you're a bard with guidance and inspiration.
My first playthrough, I went 6 levels shadow monk/6 levels assassin rogue dark urge. So much fun. I would get something like 4-5 attacks on the first turn, with all of them being crits as long as I hit. I was dual wielding shortswords throughout, and going full Dark Urge and getting the slayer form and the cloak made it so that because I was turning invisible every time I killed something, I could use sneak attack and crit and slip in and out of range all I wanted. It was a blast and I'd highly recommend it. :)

Interesting opinion, especially on the druid 'cause I personally find it the most uninterested class, I just don't clic with it. I'd prefer rogue (which is objectively the weakest and less fun class to play when not multiclassing) just thanks to its proficiences in stealth and deception.
My personal favorites (including multiclassing) are Bard and Paladin, especially 2 Paladin and 10 Bard : because you get the main character syndrome from Pal' and the Bard in BG3 is just too fun, in dialogues, in CC and in utilities. It's peak "I'm the face of the party, and I'm fancy doing it too" hahaha.
Then sorcerer, overpowered, metamagic is really fun and you get some nice dialogues too sometimes.
Clerics. can. do. it. all : buff, heal, big damage, I didn't think they would be that fun, but dude, I had Shadowheart as a full light cleric and she was ripping everyone to shreds everytime it was her turn. I'll probably do a cleric/bard or cleric/sorcerer, have Selune as a deity and have peak dialogue with Shadowheart x).
Wizards, and especially the abjuration school, the idea of reflecting hits and killing mobs with their own attack is just too much fun. Dip 1 sorc in the beginning for con proficiency + 1 tempest cleric for armour proficiences and create water = the perfect build for Gale
I personally find Battle Master fighters ultra fun because they CC as well as dealing massive damages. In my current run I intend to make Laezel a fighter/war domain cleric.
Rogue, hands down the worst solo class but best multiclass. rogue/bard or rogue/ranger or especially rogue/shadow or way of the open hands monk are just insanely powerful and fun
Monk is my go to for Karlach. honorable mention for 4 barbarian + 8 monk, quite the interesting approach if you ask me, going around naked and either crushing them with weapons or unarmed strikes.
Warlock is ok but I really dislike its spellslot system, however in terms of dipping into it, it's really good, especially for melee classes. Getting eldritch blast, devil's sight, darkness and the pact weapon is SO deadly.
Gloomstalker ranger is my go to whenever I want to use the ranger class, the other two didn't interest me that much. Overall I didn't enjoy this class as much as I hoped so... yeah.
Druid, don't like it, but I'll try to go with it when I get Jaheira in the team to test the spore haste you talked about.
    byee

Bard 10 / Paladin 2 is SO good. The best face of the party if you don't play as the sorcerer! Charisma is an awesome stat
Cleric is really good, I like the tempest or light cleric the most, and spirit guardians is one of the best spells in the game. Planar Ally at level 11 cleric is hard to give up though, it is seriously so useful
1 Level draconic sorcerer also gives Gale survivability early game in robes which is useful. Luckily the wizard can scribe scrolls so mixing with any full caster is great!
Fighters and Rogues have lots of great muticlasses, but the rogue is not great at higher levels compared to other classes.
Spore druid is a LOT of fun, treat it like a necromancer, and you can even do 6/6 necromancer wizard and its very strong. Lots of summons and temporary health
      Thanks for the detailed comment!

I'm nearing the end of my first playtrough as rogue and I coudn't agree more. At the start of the game it was fun once I figured out how to actually play the game. But later on it's just soooo booring.
Any other class seems to have so many options in every situacion then rogue is just hide, sneak attack, hide again. And if you get beaten on initiative you can just get pumeled by a monk (still hurts from the time that happened).
Another thing abaut rogues is the fact that you either need to min-max engages or you need to just do stuff that I would consider extremly booring (like that strat where you debuff enemy with some DOT spell by walking away and back million times). I just fail to see that as fun. Fine if you do It's just not for me.
And finally rogue feels like a class for someone who has limited imagination then it comes to fighting. In pretty much every situation your goal is get that sneak attack off on enemy for big damage. Then any other class has so many more options. Like if ur playing rogue you just sneak attack and hide again then something like a wizzard can: de-buff enemy, buff an ally, chuck a fireball (I usually go for this option), maybe ur out of spell slots so you go for a spell scroll you picked up. I mean you just feel limited.
Now what I really like abaut rogue. Mooooney! You'll never be poor then you play rogue. Save, sell an item to a merchant and then just steal it back. Ur in a place where you can't loot because it's stealing? It's not stealing if your a rogue because you are pretty much invis in your stealth. In fact I started second play trough as a warlock and I was so used to stealing that I keep on trying to steal stuff forgetting it's not going to work with such a low stealth. My reaction litteraly was: "What!? What is happening right now?! Ohhh right you can't actually steal stuff, there's consequences for that..". Specially to a loot goblin like me who leaves every merchant with 0 gold he meats by selling him every little thing he can (it became a personal mission of mine, send help).

Currently playing a rogue and I hear ya. Yes in combat rogues are one trick ponies with sneak attack and it can be quite boring. Outside of combat is a completely different story! For exploration and RP (if your charisma is high) purposes rogue is definitely an S tier class. You get into places you shouldn't be in, steal things, and talk your way out of trouble (lying, smooth talking, or death threats)

Beastmaster ranger is very good. One of the safest to solo honour. Too bad it's boring, like dialogue with rangers is straight up like "cool, I can find him, I'm a good tracker". While I do get where they're comming from with it, it could've been better, more broad.
    Personal favorite, bard.
Bard is way too good, people say jack of all trades, master of none, yet it is master of all.
It has everything. Melee damage, check. Ranged damage, check. Amazing CC, check. Dialogue, check. Fun factor, check. Insults, check. Play instrument for fun in the middle of the battle, check. Dialogue wise, nothing beats bard. Second place for barbarian, barb dialogue is whacky, intimidating, roar, chug, chug, chug. Fun times.
Third place druid. Due to versatility of it. Also aaaamazing tanks with tons of backup HP. Fun fact, contrary to how much I love bards, druids are my most played classes.

I really don't get why sorcs are always rated so high. I tried to play as one twice, hoped that it would be fun. But they turned out to be rather disappointing. Each time I just respeced to wiz in Act 2, because they are definetly way more versatile and powerful. Give them just one cleric level and you'll have a magic tank. The only place where sorc wins is charisma based dialogs... but who needs charisma when you have a fireball

    • @JasonDunna

Draconic sorcerer can add their charisma modifier to the damage of their spells, so a fire one can add +6 damage to each scorching ray, or multiple people in a fireball!
