A lot of modern soft tops have way too many different flaps that move in all sorts of directions with really complicated and fragile hinges, hydraulics etc. The single pair of flaps this has that hide the mechanism move in one direction, and it still looks elegant.

Well yeah, it's silly to imply some heritage going back to the old MGs. It's a different company that bought the MG brand name for marketing to the west. I have to laugh at his 6:17 intonation that this is not a retro design. No kidding. I bet it doesn't have carburetors either. I doubt there's a single item - again other than the nameplate - that's somehow been brought along all these years. Nothing wrong with that, that's marketing and otherwise it might be a fine car, just that old MG is not "back," it's dead and gone.
GORGEOUS. I can't wait for it to come to Europe. I've owned multiple EVs and roadsters and have been waiting for a ev roadster for a while.. I do think they made this car with the wrong ideea in mind. Roasters are usually driven very rarely and for short trips, they should have made it with a sub 50kw battery and even 250hp would've been sufficient.
How about something not quite like the hilarious Wuling MINI EV soft top. But something based on an A segment EV like a theoretical MG1, MG2 or 3 and just make an EV equivalent of a MGB or a Midget. Something not to just compete with Mazda's crown, but subverse that into Renault Wind, Citroen C3 Pluriel or Daihatsu Copen territory. These kinds of smaller, lighter, more accessible but crucially driver orientated cars can compliment the market demand for roadsters, and the demand for less impactful electric cars. Cyclecars/light quadricycles being the bottom floor before a moped or ebike, heavy quadricycles being up to 450kg. Who wouldn't want to see fun, cheap n cheerful sub-1100kg EVs? They're possible now. And damn anyone who would like to laugh at a "Noddy car" like the Citroën 2CV
