This is probably my favourite format of electric car, which is silly. Comprised, wacky, and a bit weird. But that's what makes it actually better than any of the others. Screw the rest of the square boxes, and bring on more of this!

I've seen the Cyberster up close and personal at the first Everything Electric Live Show in London. It managed something few cars can - it made Yellow look good - really good. It's not as small as an MG classic sports car, but you barely notice because the proportions are so spot on. It's like when the Mini One was first released. Despite dwarfing an original mini it still managed to look small. The Mini Clubman by contrast looks like it ate a couple of Mini Ones for breakfast. The Cyberster is very pleasing on the eye and (despite Jack and Rob not liking them) the doors are very cool and also practical. They are easy to open in small spaces. With cars getting bigger and parking spaces staying the same size that's a definite bonus. I would love to cruise around in one during those five annual hours when we get sunshine in the UK. The fact that you can still benefit from the near silent electric drive chain if you want to talk with the roof down is delightful. Driving through the countryside topless (ooh-er) able to talk to each other about the sound of local wildlife is one of the treats of going electric that ICE-tech owners can only imagine.

I know the doors seem kind of stupid, but....
When you are parked next to another car - and let's face it, cars have gotten wider and wider but parkingspaces have not - it is really helpful that the door opens upward like that, particularly in a low sportcar.
I once read an article by a guy who had put Lambo-doors on his MGF (because he could), and he explained how helpful they were in France where cars park very close to one another. Ever since then whenever I have been in a tight space I can't help thinking how I would love that type of door on my own roadster - and it doesn't get easier with age to get one foot out of a narrow gap and get up to standing using just one leg -without scratching the neighbor's car.
Of course when parked out in the middle of nowhere it just seems silly, but try in a parking lot next to an oversize SUV, and you will see why the doors are that way.

I'm afraid to say that, as a crazed Red Dwarf fan, Bobby getting out of any car near me would result in me delaying his bathroom and quavers mission, regardless of the uniqueness of the door. That said, I really like the doors. I was very hesitant in the early concepts but in the production model they do seem to be much quicker so less annoying than I feared. They are also quite practical for tight spaces and I do like the idea of popping them open as I approach the car.
Also, I know what Jack means about kids being easily pleased, but when you're talking about sports cars they need to appeal to that inner child a little bit. That's why we drive them.

And the doors will put most of that market off. It's a strange decision to include them. Just like they said I'm the vid.
An older pairing, especially the women, they would be an instant pass, and they would move in the Mazda for their Sunday convertible. Which would be a better sports car.
Or a Jag for GT which would also be better, and better for the environment being a slightly used money model.
This is why other OEMs aren't doing it, it's a small market and it's all but covered with great options. One of the big OEMs that share chassis and platforms will probably nail it. Cut the top of the Cupra born and you'd have a good starting point. That's what it will take to get in around the ice sports car price.

Jack sits in the Cyberster like I sit in a FIAT X1/9 - i.e. not possible with the roof in place...
I am 6'2" and am hoping the GTS hardtop 2+2 version has a double-bubble roof or some other way of upping headroom over this roadster version when it gets to production. The pre-production yellow LHD w Chinese menus roadster at the Harrogate '24 show was a bit too cramped for me - I've not tried a UK RHD production version, but hopefully work has been done to improve it from that car. Chatting with Tom Ford about his experiences of Cyberster and Cyber GTS gave me hope!

I think it’s great. But I genuinely think they missed a trick MG, being MG which we have missed for years. What is the best and biggest selling 2 door fun sports car since the old MG……yep the MX5. Here they had the chance to give us an MX5 killer, for around 25k….and what do they give us a 55k car to compete against all the cars they simply can’t beat in terms of expensive 2 door sports cars, lotus, merc and bmw. What a shame they got it so wrong. They could have given us a Suzuki cappuccino killer…..an mg midget…..alas…..

Hello, I really love your reviews 🙂
I would like to add a comment about the doors. I do agree that they are a little flashy, and I am not one who likes to be too flashy however . . . I drive a 2 cars with only 2 doors - a Mercedes SLK and a Mercedes E Class convertible. In both cases the doors are large and you have to be very careful when parking in car parks. I like these doors because you can fit into narrower parking spaces than I can in my two 🙂
I absolutely welcome MG producing a proper convertible car. I will only replace my two Mercs (one diesel, one petrol) when a decent electric convertible is available and I believe that this fits the bill.

I really like the car, the thing is I am 1.86m , and I find it quite comical my head to be taller than the front part, it doesn't make any sense. Things get quite more comical if I close the roof, it's a pity. Otherwise, there are few competitors out there , it's a niche product and segment.

Never have I been so glad to be 5'9" 🤣 But those doors - look at the length of them. Like most two-seaters, they're very long and if you try and open them in a tight car parking space it'll be much harder to get out of than the scissor doors. I'd take the raising of those doors over trying to open them gently next to another car normally.
