The movement is not copied. They bought the Cal.175 machinery and designs from Venus and then upgraded the original 17-jewel movement to their own 19-jewel ST19 movement.
I have a sugess Chrono, and I absolutely love it. The website has some amazing watches and the new grand Seiko homage is probably one of the best I've seen. Sugess is one of the best Chinese brands out there.

I bought this for my son - on the steel bracelet. Had a quick look, all seemed well (the caseback is amazing!). The strap met the case perfectly on one side - but the other side stood proud of the case and was razer sharp, he ended up slicing his thumb quite badly. In fairness I contacted Sugess through the Ali Express store and they agreed to refund me, and have said they will check the rest of their stock to see if there are any more with the same issue. Every company can have a QC error, but at least they handled it the right way. Its a shame, as I liked it so much I was going to get one for myself too. Thanks for sharing your thoughts Chris.
Sorry to hear that, I've had my share of cheap aliexpress watches and have found that I had to file away at the rougher edges to make it smooth. I've also had to do that with other much pricier watches as well. Sure it wasn't razor sharp but it was sharper than what I would have liked and made it feel much cheaper than what it was/is worth. Also had to do that with some strapcode bracelets as their edges were so sharp. I did those fairly aggressively and introduced a bezel.
I bought this watch in mid-June as soon as I saw it. I have never done that with an Ali Express watch but could not be happier with my decision. This is my first Seagull ST chronograph and I am pretty impressed with the quality for the price. It’s kind of hard to find a fault with it when you can get them in decent watches between $200-$300. This is such a nice and well balanced review. I think you’re becoming my favorite watch channel. You show interesting and unique watches, many of which I’ll probably never be able to justify purchasing for myself but I still like looking at them. 😆 And you don’t suffer from the double talk that some, shall we say, well know RUclipsrs engage in. Expressing no tolerance for snobbery on one side of the mouth, and putting down Ali watches and those who wear them out of the other side of the mouth. Thanks, Chris!
I sold my Seagull 1963 pretty shortly after I got it. I was not impressed by the quality of the ST19 movement. A note warning not to use the chrono function too often wasn't a good sign either.
I have some homages, and in particular I have the Seestern (I belive the same company as Sugess) Gran Seiko Homage and the Seestern Doxa Sub 600T homage. Both are absolutely amazing watches. I would like to add the watch featured here next. Thank you Chris for your review 🙏 👍

Great watch. Now homages to the limited edition Lupin, Liberty and Cappuccino versions available. Amazing finishing, straps, colourways, value and timekeeping. I have the panda. I'd like a ladder bracelet to go with it. I could happily have at least one other if not 2 given the value and different looks you get with dial options
Just ordered the panda version onthe bracelet, looks fantastic and is much better value than the San Martin Chrono...I don't do homages but this I see as more a generic 60/70's chrono, at leasst no muggles gonna mistake it for a Rolex🤣🤣 But yeah, its very zenith more the original tho...

I bought one of these but the chrono hand was wonky & there was obvious white fluff on the blue subdial, it went back. Shame, it's a great looking piece.
Anybody else notice the “12 hour totalizer” when Chris hit reset? I thought I would never see a more worthless sub dial than the space flight/speelunking 24 hour dial……..now I have. That ain’t no 12 hour totalizer guys…..more bs.
Nice looking watch indeed, it was good the Sugess did not put a date window, it is better without the date. Much cleaner, the chronograph written on the sub register is unique. What is preventing me from buying is the movement, I did some search in the web and you tube, they say it is reliable, but not serviciable, not serviciable which I am not a fan of, what if it breaks. It does not have a warranty, so buying it, is a risk.
The green dial looks excellent. I know its a homage to Zenith Chronomaster but they should have done away with the useless hour subdial, if they made a bicompax version I buy one in a heartbeat.
I’m not typically into homages. I’d rather buy the real thing finances permitting. But this one really seems to offer a lot. I just purchased the panda dial version last night. Can’t wait for it to arrive!
Its not perfect, Sugess could and should have made the 6'oclock sub dial 24hrs (lets hope for an update in the next version) then it would have performed an additional function whereas currently its useless and there just for balance and to make it look more like the Zenith its aping. Its a great watch still though because its obviously well made and finished and where else can you get a column wheel mechanical chrono other than from the Chinese using the Seagull? As your viewers are well aware Japanese and Swiss made mechanical chronos cost £1000's!! Accepted there are a few compromises (strap clasp, 6'oclock sub dial and lack of hacking) but otherwise what you are getting is a pretty amazing watch for the money paid. Also don't forget the Seagull movement is based on the Swiss Venus movement so it has a decent pedigree and the El primero wasnt hacking either.

Some really nice finishing on this! I'm a massive fan of Zenith and I have a homage in my collection however this one really is a must add for me!

Sugess definitely seems to be one of the better Chinese brands out there. They have a beautiful Tourbillion and some other really nice chronographs
