Love 70s England. Thanks for keeping the score out of the title mate.

Remember going to see this match at Wembley with my late father and a few school mates.

Loving the advertising around the edge. Not trying to promote betting or shitty fast food.
Flasks, tyres, Hungarian Airlines, Rediffusion, Skoda cars, Mornflake Oats (bless em, a stalwart of football advent hoardings) FujiFilm, Bush "Colour" Televisions and my favourite being "Chessington Zoo"....
Back when you weren't being focussed and channelled on (mentally, subliminally preyed on, is my term for it). So you could be gently reminded of these things, not have it yelled at you from TV advertisement breaks (listen to an advert in a cinema or your TV - decibels louder than shows are) or have it forced into your face or be made to feel stupid or weak minded the way it's done these days.

Whenever I see England of the 70's play, Dave Watson seems as ever-present as Keegan or Francis or any of them, a real force at the back, but I had no idea this Dave Watson existed. I couldn't tell you who he played for in the league or a single thing about him. Never heard of the man. I know it's not the Dave Watson who play in the 80's and 90's for mainly Everton.

This Dave Watson played for Sunderland and Manchester City then Werder Bremen in the 70s and 80s, he was a top class Centre Half.

Andras Torocsik ( #9) from Hungary was one of my favorite players of that era. Too bad his team was not up to his level. Great player.

1970PMD he was very good indeed, but there were some other strong players (like Nyilasi, Fazekas, Nagy) on that team.

Still managed an impressive 10-1 in España '82 in a few years time.
We struggled to score a single goal in the second round group games v W Germany and Spain.

I was at that game. The days when friendlies were treated seriously and felt like competitive games and weren’t ruined by countless substitutions.

One shouldn't really judge a whole match on a few minutes of footage but a good looking performance from England. It would have been interesting to see how things went if we had qualified for the 78 world cup.🐻🤗👍

Akkor még nem voltak szerecsenek az angol válogatottban, nem volt szivárványszínű karszalag, de volt futball. Régi szép idők!

Me too, that was the first time I’d ever been to an England match. I remembered the score but I wouldn’t have been able to tell you who’d scored the goals..

Tell me, England fans, one of the better teams that year that did not make it to the World Cup? It appears so. First viewed, 3-IV-20.

They were a good side. We didn’t qualify on goal difference, Italy making the trip to Argentina instead. We only beat Luxembourg 2-0 at Wembley and I believe Italy won by 5 or 6 in the equivalent game. Possible last 4 in the finals with two superb goalkeepers in the squad.

Lots of good teams that did not make it to the World Cup... Netherlands '86 comes to mind, thrown out by the away goal rule after play offs with Belgium. That team was wonderful, better than the squad that played at the following Italy '90 Mundial
