There is no doubt that the optical viewfinder (OVF) can greatly change the way you photograph. Apart from the parallax that you have to learn to master, but the OVF of the X-Pro2 corrects it quite well, the OVF introduces two modifications compared to an electronic viewfinder (EVF). On the one hand, we don't see the final image anymore, on the other hand this final image corresponds only to a part of what we see.
Firstly, in OVF as with DSLRs, not seeing the final image (WYSIWYG) removes the direct information on the exposure and focus that the EVF gives. It is then necessary to resort to the information that fortunately the OVF of Fujifilm cameras come to give in incrustation on the image of the OVF but let us admit it is not intuitive.
However, it turns out that for street photography, documentary photography, street portraiture and other related photography, it is easy to compensate or even take advantage of this situation because the automatisms offered by modern cameras make the use of OVF easy.
Concerning the exposure, this one is now perfectly mastered by the automatisms, especially the ISO automatisms which allows to keep the control on the exposure time but especially on the aperture.
For the focus, in the above mentioned shooting areas, the distance to the subject evolves quite slowly, better still it is quite predictable in advance. A practice based on a zone focus assisted by an automatic focus in advance on the scene probably reflects the subject as much as an automatic focus that can be affected by a change in the scene.
Once the camera is set, we can concentrate on the framing.
And this is where the second characteristic of the OVF, that the final image is only a part of what we see, becomes a huge advantage not only because it allows us to anticipate what will enter the field. But especially in my opinion because it allows to choose the framing in the scene that we see permanently as a whole.
