    It’s actually a very well written and comprehensive book ruclips.net/user/postUgkxhgbP-6hUnXu_QRaoHgLztgsI0YF3HqR0 . I wanted to pair this with an updated book on local codes to start planning a post-retirement dream shop. I think I have just about everything I need between the two. The extra plans available for purchase towards the end are priced almost as much as full home plans, not little sheds however.

      Don't brace like they did. you only brace from a wall, never on top of a ceiling joist

    Great Job on the videos-- so if you were doing an offset gable ridge board (saltbox) would you do the diagonal bracing on the gable ends in this same manner? Thanks ~ Kevin

    Excellent video. What if your crossbracing is reversed from the orientation you have it here. In other words it's attached at the base of the gable end (instead of the top like you have here), and the top of the 2nd truss. In my houses case it's actually at the top of the 4th-6th truss, if I recall. I don't think this would make a difference?

    • @jjmoberly1117

      It is a fink truss, the truss framing looks identical to what you have here in this video (minus the diagonal bracing)

    Great info. Quick question...how do you brace the roof if you want to use the attic space (12/12 pitch) as bunkie space for grandchildren?

      Once the roof sheathing is on, this brace isn’t critical. The load on the end wall will be transferred in to the diaphragm of the roof sheathing and then in to the walls below. My house was built in 1929 very similar to this structure. No brace. All is still good.

    If u didnt nail that last piece to the side for fear that it would bulge and shake the fastners loose the why nail it on the side of the ceiling board???...will it not still shake the fastners loose there also over time?

    • @PrimeSuperboy
      @PrimeSuperboy 3 года назад

      Not really no. The concern was that by nailing it to the bigger side of the stud, it could push out on the sheathing which could pop out the nails over time and create a bulge. Nailing it on the bottom by the board that spans across the entire ceiling won't have the same concern.

    • @princeodinson3239

      @@PrimeSuperboy but based on his explanation it would be better to nail in on the support and not the side to the energy would be displaced in the board n not the fastner

    • @joshscott8678
      @joshscott8678 Год назад

      I think it's because the long board running across the ceiling joist was nailed into the side of vertical board at gable end. So the brace would have ended up sitting cockeyed if it was flush against both boards. Still I agree with you and I personally would have sistered another board to ceiling joist brace spanning at least 4 joist. Then diagonal gable brace would have been extra strong. Like they said generally you would remove the brace, unless you lived somewhere that hurricanes or tornadoes were common. Then I would leave it and maybe even install extras, who knows what I might end up doing, I'm a wild one

    Can u frame a roof that is already installed but not secure enough

  • @MichaelJordan-hn4zd

    12x16 shed... if I dont tie the plywood in from the wall to the gable end, would it be the end of the world? I already put plywood on all 4 walls before making the gables.

    • @joshscott8678
      @joshscott8678 Год назад

      You'll be fine, but if there was a spot to remove a half sheet and install (at least) one full spanning wall and gable you would feel better about it. It will be no problem to reuse that half sheet on the roof. That is assuming you didn't destroy the plywood trying to take it down because, you went nuts and used 50 ring shank nails on it. 😂

      Not ideal for braces since air nails are way harder to get out, unless you intend to leave the brace in or have an easy way to knock your brace out

    LMAO...thats the WRONG way to brace that roof. NEVER brace a roof off your ceiling joists. You should have braced from the wall at an angle to your ridge. ESPECIALLY since you only have 2x4's for your ceiling joists.

      Так он сделал распор, он будет работать только при боковых ветровых нагрузках, ничего там не будет с потолкомSo he made a spacer, it will work only with lateral wind loads, there will be nothing there with the ceiling.

      Yea it was odd in the video at 2:25 where he says not to brace it to the middle of the joist because it could slump the joist and the drywall, but then to brace to the joist.
