I'm gonna assume Stevie was trying to land a defenseman like Skjei or Montour in Free Agency so he created cap space by trading Walman, but was eventually outbid by Nashville and Seattle. Unfortunately, he couldn't take back the Walman trade and Ghost soon signed with Carolina. Just a massive swing and a miss, but I guess we'll never actually know...
We have seen the Jets do this in the past...but not at this level. The offense is absolutely buzzing. Even in the loss to the Leafs, they managed to pot four in a losing effort after a bad 1st. Comrie is 3 - 0 after tonight which many people thought might be an issue after the departure of Brois. As a fan, I am still pumping the brakes but damn, the Jets look like a really good hockey team. I am going to reserve judgement until they finish this next stretch: twice against the Bolts, at home to Utah, Colorado, and Dallas, on the road against NYR, and then two games against the Cats.
Really happy with the start the Jackets have had. This is the first time in awhile that we’re playing together as a unit. I think Dean Evason was the right hire by us. Everybody is buying in
This is the most confident I've been in the Sens after October in a long time (not saying much tbh) but defensively they look like they are way more committed especially the forwards which has been a major issue. Given the injuries/absences they've had so far (Ullmark, Zub, Greig, Pinto, Perron) it's nice to see the depth perform haven't had that in the past. Some of their offensive stats might be a bit skewed because of 2 8 goal games. Need a bigger sample size still though
Agree, the sens have been plagued by awful starts. Finally it seems like they can hang with any team on a given night. Stu seems to be Bouncing back as well
@ he’s been unreal. Shutting down top lines on other teams and generating a ton of offense. He’s honestly been unlucky points wise. I’ve been super impressed with his play and it’s exactly what we needed
@@gallydex3566 I was hoping he could turn it around and looks promising for the Caps. Love that he's found his home and happy for him after his early career struggles. Thanks for the reply and good luck on the season
This is also the best our D has looked since 2022. Ryan McDonagh should have never been a cap casualty. I'm glad we were able to finally right that wrong.
pleasantly surprised as well because i thought the mentality was gonna be depleted without stamkos' presence and guidance. obviously heddy was a no brainer for the next captain and he'll make a damn good captain but stamkos in every possible way is irreplaceable
I'm a Jackets fan and while I definitely don't expect to maintain our current stats for the whole year I also don't think it's a fluke that we have improved by a decent margin. Evason and Waddell have enormously transformed the culture around Columbus in a short period. Werenski has been electric and very fun to watch and all four of our lines have been great even with all the injuries we've had so far. If we can beat Winnipeg tonight the media will have to take notice of this start because this team is absolutely overperforming and exceeding expectations on paper.
Panthers goaltending doesn't look good based on save percentage but in the actual games Bob has been a key player and makes huge saves when necessary. Exhibit A was the game vs Dallas today, Bob was our best player for several shifts throughout the game but his save percentage looks bad because we gave up 2 garbage time goals. Knight has been looking good & gaining more confidence in his recent starts as well. Most of us are happy with the goaltending and just hoping that the numbers start to reflect how good Bob has been.
Panthers have been playing shorthanded for the early part of this season and they are now hitting their stride. Swept the Stars, whom you consider a final four team, was a great way to start November. Goaltending has been less than ideal, however, some of the goals scored were really inconsequential to the outcome of the game.
And the caps are doing it all without 2 top defensive players. And minus 2 of our best prospects Ivan mirochinko and Ryan Lenard who we don't have spots for right now but I think that changes at the deadline.
Nonsense. The team, after requiring serious gutting, has improved every year under Yzerman. They missed the playoffs by 1pt last year, which was not expected to be a playoff year. So what? He didn't overpay and sign everyone he wanted this year and had to settle for some plan B's. The project pool is flush, and the East is still way to top-heavy to even think they had any sort of shot at a cup last year of this year. So, what else would a different GM have done? They'll clean up again at the deadline and take more wings in FA next year, while bringing up a couple more rookies to play with an even more experienced young group and replace leaving veterans. The window is in 2-3 years.
Wtf has happened to Boston I'm a Sens fan but I have no idea Boston have been this bad. And speaking of the Sens, I don't want to jinx it, but we keep scoring goals like what has Travis Green been saying to the Sens forwards? its fun and funny to watch lol
I feel like Boston was masked by having decent depth, but not having center depth and losing ullmark has been a bigger blow than people probably thought it was gonna be. Swayman may be the guy? But he hasn't been a full-time starter yet. Can he handle the weight, and can Boston score enough goals? Idk
I dropped Duschene early in my hockey pool for Granlund and was labeled as insane. Granlund currently has two more points than Duschene, with both above a point per game.
Habs fan here, feels you're way too nice on the Habs, yes there are some positive but the defense so far is looking even worse than last year in spite of Lane Hutson on that D core and the very good offensive defense from Anderson & Evans. It's really concerning, the short term injury of Guhle and the long term one of Reinbacher have killed the team (David was much closer to being ready to make the big jump than most people think).
i’m a devils fan, and even though we’re atop of the metro, and one of the top teams in the standings, we’ve played 3-4 games more than any other team, and the inconsistencies in our game really bothers me. 7-5-2 isn’t terrible but was kinda hoping for a better start.
I think the Bruins are really regretting that Ullmark trade. Obviously paying 2 goalies over 16m in combined cap isn't realistic, but they essentially replaced Ullmark with Lindholm and Korpisalo, and neither of those additions have worked as planned. I think the combo of Swayman/Ullmark was deeper than their numbers too; those dudes were best friends. It's not surprising to me that both their numbers dropped because even if we don't talk about friendship effecting play that much, having a supportive bond like that can make you play your best every night.
I dont know why everyone sleeped on Wild. They had a one down year defensively and made playoffs year before with great score. And they were gonna be better with their roster. They just need a good start and healthy roster. Ofc Kaprizov and goaltending plays a big role to their succeess. And i love how they can score and their identity is changing overall.
Cronin's system is zapping all of the offense from this team. So much energy is expended due to the aggressive man on man high pressure forecheck he deploys. Mintyukov inexplicably isn't getting power play time, LaCombe is on the second unit over him. Only over the last 2 games he finally put Zegras back at center (where he's far more impactful historically) so hopefully that's permanent, he and Cutter were dangerous last night. Gauthier's so overdue to score, he's so snakebitten it's ridiculous. McTavish looks absolutely lost outside of the power play and he should be shifted to the wing to maximize his puck protection and board battling strengths. Luckily Terry's been great, Leo's been solid, and Zellweger is playing some phenomenal hockey lately. Oh and Dostal for Vezina
The flyers are definitely not going to be a playoff team but they’re also not trying to be. They’re smack dab in the middle of the first real rebuild they’ve had in a while. What I’m looking for is Michkov taking off, the young guys figuring it out, good scoring and losing games for the pick. I’m thrilled with where they are But if you’re looking for them to be competitive you’re gonna wanna look elsewhere. I fully expect Pittsburgh to finish much higher than then when it’s all done
The Blues are exactly what I thought they'd be---a sub-.500 team that will not make the playoffs, and, with Robert Thomas out indefinitely, it doesn't look good for the Blues this season. To note, I've been a fan of the Blues since the birth of the franchise,so, i am not afraid to say what I see each year
As a wings fan (unfortunately) do you think Lalonde will be gone if they continue playing like this up til thanksgiving? I’m not even talking about wins/losses but just being severely outplayed each game and having horrible to no puck possession- (maybe a good ask me anything question: puck possession is an important indicator of a teams overall play, but what do you think effects it more: coaching or personal? Do you think a team like the wings could improve their possession numbers and play simply with a coaching/systems change or are they doomed based on the players/personal that they have?) Let me say… a Misa or Portone is sounding better each and every day…
As a Bruins fan, i say we need to do something with swayman. He shouldn't have held out for this long wanting bank and then be worse than korpisalo. Something needs to be done. Whether that's trading for someone to help us score like Vatrano or even trade for a new goalie or defenseman. We need some serious help and we need it now
Newsflash, no single goalie is ever perfect and all of them have stretches of bad games. His SV% is unsustainably bad and he will round back into form at some point. You're also acting like hes been an absolute disaster in net when he's had some outstanding performances already this season.
@Steelhart69420 still think it should be better if we're paying him this much money. Because newsflash. You don't win games without good goaltending offense or defense. We've had none of that
I give zero fs that Jake Walman is gone. Edvinsson is getting top line minutes. Johansson is getting ice time. Petry will be gone. Chairot is on his last 2 years. Wings were able to sign Raymond and Seider long term. And able to pay Kane his signing bonus. Literally don’t get any of that if Walman stays.
As an isles fan. I hate everything. Boring, can’t score, even when we do we blow the lead. Might have to stop watching until we start selling the vets. Just killing my enjoyment of the game. Now barzal, Romanov, pelech, Reilly and Duclair are out for who knows how long (bc Lou will never tell the truth). Above average in expected goals, but can’t buy one. Can’t tell if it’s bad finishing or bad luck (my guess is a combination of both). It’s just bad, unenjoyable hockey rn. Big win tonight with having to run 3 to 4 defensemen for most of the game and missing 2 1st liners but I’m still not getting my hopes up. We played against a struggling Levi/sabres D. We’ll prob get smacked by the rangers on Sunday.
It really does. TB will miss Sergy for sure, but it was worth it IMO. Moser and Geekie have been great additions, and the cap space gained allowed TB to re-sign Ryan McDonagh.
