As a montrealer, I remember mid 2010s Carey Price being special. Not just in his stats, not just in the way he played, but also in the way people would talk about him, almost as if he was a sacred idol. Playing goalie in the streets and you made a big save? Carey Price. He was the heart and soul of the organization, of the city, of the province for years and I so wish he had gotten that cup in 2021. Not to see my habs win, to see Carey win. The same way he was compared to Dryden and Roy, Habs goalies will now be compared to Price. Even though I understood his reasons, I was heartbroken when he announced he would be stepping away. Every time he stops by the Bell Centre for ceremonial purposes, I don't think there's a dry eye in the building. We miss Carey, and we'll forever love him.

I was lucky enough to have a private meet and greet with Carey November 2023. I owned one of his last ever jerseys he wore. I was going to have him sign it, but I asked him if he had any of his last ever worn jerseys. I was saddened to hear he did not. I gave him his jersey he wore in 2022 against Philly. He was moved and genuinely surprised someone would offer something like that to him with no strings. Guy could flat out play. Had it not been for injuries, he could have played to almost 40 and dominate. Suck a good piece that has been created. Everyone who doubted the kid and tore him down should watch this. Montreal had something special. He will be first ballot hall of fame! I truly feel if the Bell Center could have been filled to capacity against the Lightning, the series could have been different.

Even more so than King Henrik, I feel for Carey price. He deserved a cup, and the Habs failed him time after time. This man put the team on his back year after year, and the meager supporting cast always let him down. What a shame

    • @malcolmk2878
      @malcolmk2878 9 месяцев назад +37

Beyond that, the fans often failed him too. There are still French Canadians TO THIS DAY who say "Carey Price never won anything". In the face of facts, in the face of stats, they're immovable in their rejection of him.
And they're not a loud minority. There are actually quite many of them. Mostly French-Canadians, as I haven't met a whole lot of Anglophone Habs fans who don't absolutely adore Carey.
And he's had to deal with that his entire career. Even after his absolutely sensational run in 2021.
Marc Bergevin set Carey up. He gave him an absolutely ridiculous contract that never should have been, and he failed repeatedly to help him out by building an actual team around him.
Marc Bergevin failed Carey, and he failed the Montreal fans he was always so condescending toward.
My greatest regret is that Carey never wona Cup with us, or at all. I hoope he can stay close to the organization and some day have his name carved into Lord Stanley's Cup. He deserves it more than any other goalie I know.

It was Guy Lafleur bobblehead night the the Bell Centre, something that had been planned long before Lafleur's death. The team scored 10 goals that night, and Lafleur wore #10. Chants of "Guy! Guy! Patrick Roy was always my favourite and will always be. I would love, totally love, a video like this about him even though I know his career pretty well already.
Pinholes Graham is the one man who could make a 45 minute video about Roy, about his career and how he was/is as a person. I wish I could see that someday.

Carey Price didn't win the Stanley Cup in 2021, he won something that no other Montreal Canadiens goalie ever did or ever will again... The Clarence Campbell Bowl.
That's automatic legend status in my book.

As a québécois, I can say that the historical / cultural point of view on the team was spot on, the expression “Sainte Flanelle” and the saint trinity of Richard, Beliveau and Lafleur says it all, this team has a very rare and special cultural dimension that you rarely find elsewhere

Carey Price is the reason I love hockey. I’ve been a generational Habs fan but I came of age during the mid 2010s and the 2014 playoff run until the Kreider incident will always be some of my most cherished memories. A lot of my friends are die hard leaf or bruins fans but back then even they could admit that we had the very best between the pipes. Had he been on basically any other team in those years he could have won the cup. He will go down as one of the greats. I wish he could have won it for us habs faithful so much, but I wish he could have won it for him even more.

I remember being in a Cage aux Sports to watch a playoff game in the 2010 playoffs, and I had my Carey Price jersey on. I was getting plenty of hostility from habs fans around me. As if wearing a Price jersey instead of a Halak jersey was sacrilegious. I never doubted that Price was the guy. On a side note, that Kreider slide to Price's knee will haunt me forever. Habs would have faced the 8th seed LA kings in the finals. It was the year to win it all.

"We have found the only way to stop a brick wall in net is to have an even thicker brick wall" (referring to the preds 2017 playoff run)

If I may just make a small suggestion: adding a column with the final score when showing playoffs series stats would add a lot of value / context to the information conveyed. It's almost impossible to know who won a game when only showing goalie stats, unless sv% = 1.000 ; )
    Anyways, very good stuff!!

These are so good. I still am curious how you’d rank heartbreaking Ovi era Capitals losses. Just a team consistently on the wrong side of history, but seemingly so close every year. From the run and gun teams of the late 2000s to the overcorrection to the Halak series (“Defensive Boudreau”/Dale Hunter/Adam Oates Purgatory) to the Trotz-led super teams of the mid-late 2010s. So many small moments and 50-50 plays that if went the other way, could have completely shifted history. They were the opposite of a team of destiny until 2018, when the hockey gods decided they had suffered enough.

Amazing video, he was The goalie to look up to. People often mention about his ability in the net but his ability to retrieve the puck in the zone and make the 1st pass to his Defense. The guy was stellar at it... heck I remember one time he even aimed at a camera in a practice to show how mad he was about the medias. Hockey was breathing through him. He's the greatest goalie in NHL history hands down even without a stanley cup.
