Bill Gates just thought it was ahead of it's time so he delayed it to later versions of windows. It was also gonna be a game on windows XP, but it was cancelled and replaced with solitaire.

The pose is a perfect match, including a hand being in a fist! Even the open hand’s fingers are in similar, if not exact, positions! The only major differences are the cleats and the fact it looks mirrored.
Man, this takes me back! I discovered Sonic Screen Saver thanks my mother. When we used to not have internet acess at home, i asked my mom to download for me some Sonic images for using as wallpapers, since she was going to a lan house. She came back with a CD with some images and wallpapers she found on a brazilian fan site called Power Sonic, some of these images were from Sonic Screen Saver. In 2012 i got a copy of Sonic Gems Collection for PS2 and discovered new images of SSS.
Loved how you played the sonic mega collection music when going through the images. Brought back a lot of memories.

From an artist's perspective I was SUPER influenced by the illustrations featured in this program and I have fond, comfy childhood memories of poring over the pictures in Sonic Mega Collection for *hours*. I distinctly remember the feeling that Ohshima's work instilled in me, how it made me want to dive inside those paintings and live in that world with Sonic & Co., it instilled a sense of wonder I don't think I had ever felt about another artist's work at the time. I remember it being the thing that made me truly aware of the power of imagery and visuals and since I already LOVED drawing and had been doing it practically since I was able to write my name, that was the thing that made me go "that's it, that's the thing I'm gonna do when I get older", and I've been drawing ever since! I'm a professional illustrator now and I have Naoto Ohshima and this humble collection of art to thank for inspiring my life's work.

These drawings always fill me with so much nostalgia and put the biggest smile on my face.
1:28 very late to explaining this but if you want an actual reason they are called knack, its because storage space was so limited back in the day that evrey little bit of space helped so we took every little bit of space that we could by sheaving off letters from words so they took up less bytes. Also its faster to run smaller amounts of code so it also helps with the lack of ram in these pcs.
On MS-DOS, file names couldn't be longer than 8 characters anyways (excluding the extension). The real mystery is... why "Knack" and not "Knuck"?
(Could be translation related, as Knuckles in Japanese is "ナックルズ", which romanizes to "Nakkuruzu")

I Just translated issue no.125 of Sega Harmony - this issue is detailing "Mr Syd Mead 'Real Time Simulation Game' M CD-ROM Visited Japan for Joint Launch
- Mead being a very famous production designer for films such as BladeRunner and Aliens, among others.
This issue refers to Cyberrace, a game that Mead designed.
I'm so glad someone talked about these! These are some of my favorite pieces of art in the entire series.

I have always had a strange fascination with the Sonic the Screensaver images as well.
They just take you to another happier place when you look at them and give you this really cool feeling.
I’ve been to Japan multiple times since this vid came out. Never looked for Harmony totally spaced on it.... but I did go to Joyopoljs which I had never heard of till Cybershell. That video going over Joyopolis had a major impact on my second trip to Japan.
