  • One of the great features of Lutron Caseta Wireless is the ability to integrate with Sonos. It turns out that integration is more extensive than just one remote. This video will show you the details of Lutron Pico remotes to control Sonos, as well as tying Sonos audio into other Lutron Caseta automations.

    Very cool! I have many Sonos speakers and many Lutron switches. I had no idea they would integrate. THANKS!

    Great video, Eric! Not enough people talk about the Lutron/Sonos integration. It's a game changer.
    I have a request though for a test. I know that many Sonos speakers are AirPlay or AirPlay2 endpoints. If you are streaming an AP/AP2 signal to a Sonos speaker that has a Pico remote configured for it, can the remote skip a track or at least manage a volume?

    Great Vid. Can you link the control to 3 speakers? We have 7 Sonos 5s grouped together playing the same music and looking for an easy way to adjust 3 of the speakers in one go without having to adjust individual speakers in the sonos app.

    I've implemented a similar solution in our house. We use a Hue Dimmer switch with emoji stickers in the kids room that controls lights, music, and white noise.

    If you hold the bottom button down, will it dim to off for like 10 or 15 seconds like some other Lutron switches (Radio RA, etc.)

    Thanks Eric!
    That’s a cool use of the Pico Remote.
    I’m still waiting on Apple to give us another HomePod variant tho...
    How have they not done that yet...???

    You may not know this answer but can the pico Sonos switch be popped in and out of the the wall plate? For instance I have a 2 gang switch in my kitchen currently. Can I swap it with a 3 gang wall switch to include my Sonos pico remote but remove the remote and keep it on the counter while I’m listing to music?

    I just bought 1 remote control but it tells me that a Lutron Bridge is required. I am not opening the wrapper until I am sure that I do not need the bridge. Any advice?

    I really like the IKEA remote for their Sonos speakers. Do they also work with non IKEA Sonos speakers?

    • @EricWelander
      @EricWelander  4 года назад +2

      Yeah that looks cool but I've never used it myself. It looks like it does work with normal Sonos speakers as long as you have a Tradfri gateway hooked up. www.theverge.com/2019/10/1/20892984/ikea-sound-controller-review-symfonisk

    Hey Eric! Thanks for putting that video together. I'm building a house and have watched a few of your vids. Thanks for all the info that you've put together.
    My Homekit journey is a bit hypothetical at the moment as I don't have a house yet but I'm buying stuff and planning it out in advance so it will be a solid setup. That leads me to one comment / question. I'm a bit confused by your comment about using the Pico remote as an accessory and how that relates to time of day or other switches, etc. If my end goal was to have a "Sonos" Pico only set up to control a Sonos zone would I not be able to set it up so that Homekit sees that pico and controls the amp? Seems like it would be cool to be able to EITHER use the remote directly to turn on a Sonos zone or tell Siri to do the same. TIA for any insight.

      Hopefully that wasn't too confusing. Can you simply use the pico to only control a Sonos device without any other complications? Is it easy to add it to Homekit as a singular remote controlling one Sonos device? Thanks Eric!!

      Yeah that looks like a cool product, and a knob could work so well for controlling audio

    Cool. Thanks for posting. This helps.
    I have a pile of Lutron dimmer switches, all Z-Wave, that I use for lighting, paired to my Smartthings hub. Works great.
    I wish these Pico Audio remotes were Smartthings compatible but it appears you have to buy their Caseta hub 😑
    I have Sonos Amp and architectural ceiling speakers. The Sonos amp is hidden so no access to the physical volume buttons on the amp. It's not always convenient to pull out your phone to adjust the volume. I'm looking for the best option to add a physical remote. The Lutron seems like the best option, but unfortunately you have to buy their hub to make it work.🤔
    All done, it looks like a $200 remote control.

    I have a very specific question: If the Pica Remote is paired with a specific room - let's say living room - and the sonos app plays a playlist to a bigger group - let's say living room, kitchen and office - will the push of the louder button on the Pica Remote in the living room make the music louder ONLY in the living room or the whole group. I am asking because the IKEA Symphonisk Remote makes the whole group louder. But what I need is just to make the one room louder as if I would press the louder button on a speaker in that particular room. Do you know what I mean?

    Important step missed: How to add Sonos to Connections? No where on the connections page of Lutron app is there to click add. Oh well. I'll keep looking online. I had this connected at one time but don't remember how I did it.

    • @xsteel3292
      @xsteel3292 3 года назад

      @@wholev1251 yes, but the issue was that i had added a new wifi mesh network and lutron was still seeing the 'old' network, while sonos was on the new one. They could not communicate. I actually called ATT, had their wifi shut off, then plugged the lutron bridge into my eero main gateway and that did the trick. Then it appeared.

    My OCD just went off the scale at you pawing the wall switch at the beginning and leaving paw marks on the wall. A year or two later and that wall switch is going to be surrounded by an oil/dirt stain that you'll have fun trying to paint out.

    The Lutron Pico controller has a middle round button - would have been great to discuss that one - the others are self-explanatory.

    Mine worked for over 2 years and i got a mesh network. I have tried everything and nothing. How did you integrate Sonos to the Lutron app? That step was left out. I've called Sonos, Lutron and nothing. It was super simple before.

    • @EricWelander
      @EricWelander  3 года назад

      It was super simple for my just logging in. Perhaps Lutron hasn't updated their end of things since Sonos moved to S2? My pico remotes work fine and I have an Eero mesh network

    I wouldn't have put a blade near that remote. Try scanning the remote, printing it, then cutting stickers and sticker laminate over it with the printed template.

    what is the point of this. you are already in the sonos app on your phone. you need to open the sonos app to pick the zone, and pick the tracks. all this pico does is make louder or lower, and skip tracks, that is if you have memorized what the next track is. The sonos app on the phone which is already opened, does the same thing. this is a joke. a sonos remote needs full function that REPLACES the phone app so you dont need your phone in hand.

    • @xsteel3292
      @xsteel3292 4 года назад

      It's nice to have if you don't have your phone nearby or don't want to use your phone. Plus, you always know where the remote is located, if it's on a the stand. I use it all the time in my office---when it was connected. Most people don't need contact access to bass/treble etc, all the the time.
