    I like the kinetic switches, they generate their own power through the switch action, No battery needed.

    • @efixx
      @efixx  2 года назад +2

      There's certainly advatges to that, in fairness the batteries in these switches last about ten years and are just standard watch-type cells which are cheap and easily acquired. 👍

      @@efixx what I like about it too is the price, I think it's pretty reasonable for what it is, had to use a mix of the inline dimmers and the 0-10v dimming modules too and they all work flawlessly, response times and such are really good too
      A system like this a few years back would have costed a fortune to install and setup

    Looks pretty neat but it sounds like the programming is locked to the installer - I bet it’s not very complex and should be open to anyone to install and manage - including the end consumer.adding a new scene or switch etc. Also don’t want the installer having access after the fact.

    • @efixx
      @efixx  2 года назад +2

      I believe you can program it as a user post-installation. 🤔

    • @nerdofx
      @nerdofx 2 года назад +1

      Ra2 select can all be setup entirely through the app. A homeowner can do the entire setup themselves.
      Ra2 (which is a different system and I think is being discontinued and changed to Ra3) is installer only. You have to take the training course and get access to the pc software.

      It's a double door so unless the switches were outside the kitchen there's not much choice. The architects don't always leave us much flexibility unfortunately.

      @@m101ist there is a double door entry to the room. You can see there is no switch shown on other side of the door. If there is a switch there, it is behind the door. There was sufficient space between the edge of the open door and the window reveal to locate the switch in a more suitable location.

    I'm sure the switches have a estimated drain current for the battery to last for 10 years. But I'm not so optimistic about the 10-year battery shelf life. The little coin cells tend to rust in the presence of moisture (drying clothes on your radiator). It doesn't take much for a bit of dirt to bridge across the contacts and discharge them over time. I don't know if your average grandma or grandpa will remember to change the batteries in the light switch if they fail un expectedly or start leaking. Maybe putting a little packet of silica gel to keep everything dry behind the switch is a good idea. Also the quality of the coin cells seem to vary a lot. I don't know! Batteries always let me down at the worst possible time, think of your average fire alarm.

    • @efixx

      I’ve had a Rako system at home since 2011 which uses similar tech and batteries and haven’t had to change one battery or had any issues with batteries leaking. * Gordon

    Private company having access to control my new mansion, sounds like I could be held to ransom by the contactor and Lutron. All very BIG BROTHER, I can see a big market in the future to rip all the stuff out and give control back to the homeowner

    • @efixx
      @efixx  2 года назад

      It's all controllable by the end user post-installation, plus as with anything if a company starts acting in this way they'll soon get a bad reputation and start losing business.

  • @AsadMulla

    Ra2 select is good but it too basic. You can't control RGB bulbs or RGB led strip's easily. Lutron rep came over to my supplier and we had a demo. I asked quite a few questions and the answer was sorry can't so that. I've got smart lighting but it's not limited to just lighting and it's not lutron. If you want lutron, you need lutron homeworks. Lutron RA2 has some nice stuff and its easy for electricians to install but RA2 is just too basic. I have to say, I love the Pico's

    • @hks-lion

    How long will the system be supported for? Google buys the product, discontinues it, happened before. Sonos ends support for the product - happened before. Alternatively a new company comes in, switches to a subscription model for all the cloud features. If you have "tech" in your home, what is the average age of it? Bet less than 10 years old.

    Why. Another overpriced pile of junk that will cost a fortune to get replaced or repaired when it goes wrong , and it will , most people won’t be able to afford to have this junk installed, it is simply aimed at the rich and famous who have more money than since . My phone is for talking to people not turning my lights on and off, if I want to turn my lights on or off I will get up of my backside and walk over to the switch, not my phone.eFixx please for the love of humanity stop showcasing this junk. In the last video yes I can see the appeal but this one is just way too much.

      I see what you're saying Sean but this is the way the industry is heading. Not having a switch wire ran in concerns me. All the additional equipment that's installed where there's potential for failure, redundancy of parts, software no longer being supported etc concerns me. I'm probably a bit old school like yourself but I think it's something every electrician will need some experience of before long.
