Statin drugs were introduced to the market in 1987 when heart disease was the leading cause of death in the U.S. Nearly forty years later, millions of statin users and billions of dollars in statin sales... Heart disease remains the leading cause of death in the U.S.

The same thing happened to me on my last yearly physical. My LDL went from 204 to 240--no biggie--I had lost over 25 pounds on a mostly carnivore diet and felt great. He said I should be on a statin and I said no thank you because I'd done some homework on the benifits and drawbacks or side effects of the drug and told him so. He told me like you were told--no need to do a lipid panel if I wouldn't take his recommendations depending on the results--I later went on line and looked at his notes in my medical record where he noted that I refused his advice to take a statin--oh well.

I went on the 'Air Force Diet' in the early 70s...became the Atkin's Diet later...and lost 35 pounds in 3 months. Saw no reason to stop using it, so I kept the same weight all of these years.
Didn't have any health issues until I got Lyme disease in 1985. When I went to a doctor for the Lyme, he took some blood and told me that my cholesterol was off the charts and gave me a list of foods to eat to bring it down. He also started to write a prescription for statins, but I told him that I didn't want to take any meds. He got annoyed and told me to stick to a strict diet.
So...I tried the diet...skinless chicken, no cheese except the skim kinds, no butter, eggs, cream in my coffee, just small portions of lean meats, etc.
Tried the diet for about a week and then said 'screw this' and went back to my Air Force diet. Figured if I was gonna die, might as well die happy.
I'm over 70 now, still on the Air Force Diet, still the same weight as I was in my 20s and still have no medical issues so far except for the chronic Lyme. I do a lot of gardening, have a large, half-wooded property, so ticks are a problem. But maintaining the property and tending to my garden beds keeps me active, healthy and happy.

@@paveries Thanks for the advice. I know that Japanese knotweed is edible and I have a large property, so I'll find some plants to grow on my property...if deer don't eat them. Will check out the quinine and see if I can find it online. I used to like tonic water years ago...without the gin. Maybe I can find some that isn't sweetened. Might help.
Problem with me and Doxy is that I'm out on my large property in the sunshine doing gardening and maintenance from spring to fall and Doxy makes you sun sensitive, so you have to cover up head to toe to prevent sunburn. If I get bit by a tick in springtime, I have to wait until fall to get it treated...or sweat to death covered up for six weeks. Did that once and that was enough!
I spray my clothes with permethryn and use Cutter Deep Woods on my back, where I can't reach to pull a tick out, but still find ticks when I go inside and do a tick check, since my property has a wooded border around the yard areas that mice, voles and deer just love to hang out in. I don't spray the property because I don't want to kill all of the other beneficial insects living there along with the ticks.
I was also wondering if Ivermectin could help, but try getting that now after COVID.

I eat mostly just red meat( carnivore), so many people believe you will die of a heart attack, because your cholesterol will be too high, if you eat too much red meat. Ive done my research, so I know better. We need cholesterol! Our brains need cholesterol! Its amazing how brainwashed people are. Theyve heard their whole life to eat fruits and vegis, and not much red meat, yet so many, like me, have healed so many health issues, by eating mostly meat, specifically, red meat!
Historically, when tyranical governments want to control societies, they limit their ability to consume meat.

    • @ericreed4535
      @ericreed4535 17 дней назад

And so many more didn't develop the health issues in the first place or healed because they ate their veggies and reduced meat. Carnivore is not for the masses. It's silly you spoke about eating veggies as if it were not true. Disinformation much?

You're on the right track doing carnivore (by eliminating foods causing you problems), but reasoning that the improvement means everyone else should mainly eat meat (fruits and veg is bad).. isn't logical, and is where you are misled. You possibly ruined your gut on a bad diet (or in a rare case have immune issues?) and no longer could tolerate a lot of diversity in your diet.. carbs, plant ingredients, etc. An extreme elimination diet improved inflammation, great.. So maybe you are stuck on carnivore a while, but ideally you will gradually add back in diversity to your diet, as eating only meat isn't ideal for the long run; who really wants to only eat a piece of meat every day for the rest of their life, and nothing else? There are no long terms studies to say you won't die earlier from it, etc.. unfortunately. Take the influencer/podcast stuff on RUclips with a grain of salt, as a lot of it is biased, un-proven/anecdotal, whatever is needed to get a reaction. Too many anecdotes... just as one person "got better" doing an extreme, another person had the opposite effect.. ultimately do what's best for you within reason.

I believe that primary care physicians in clinical settings are being over-watched by managers who push them to prescribe statins based on numbers, and models, but not actual family history of cardiovascular disease. My PCP put me on a statin because my triglycerides were at the upper end of the “no action level,” after a fasting blood draw, based on a “computer model.” Then I hear that there is evidence that, “fasting raises triglyceride levels” in the blood.” Then I hear that using a statin “raises your risk of developing dementia by 25% over a 10-year period.” My mother just DIED of dementia after being on a statin for about 7 years after a heart valve replacement. Anecdotal, I know. I refused to take the statin, and my PCP backed off.

      True story-
One of my friends and her hubby were put on a statin.
She immediately began to have issues.
She went in for bloodwork while still freshly on it.
Due to many food allergies she has a very strict diet.
Her blood sugar was high. The Doctor wanted to know what she was doing that had caused that. She said the only thing different in her life was that she was taking the statin.
Of course doctor said it could not be the cause.
She stopped the Statin and 6 months later did the same blood work which showed her blood sugar was back to normal.
Meanwhile her husband had been on the statin all this time. His mental capacity had deteriorated to a degree where he could no longer drive and could not be trusted to care for their young granddaughter alone.
Since I knew about memory issues associated with statins, I shared what I knew with her.
She began to decrease his dose, getting him down to half the dose every other day.
      Gradually
he came back to his vibrant mentally competent self.
There is an interesting book called Lipitor, The Memory Stealer written by a former astronaut who experienced two episodes of extreme memory issues taking statins.
These drugs.have done more harm than good. It was only after lipitor came off patent that negative information started to bubble up.

During a brief hospital stay a few years ago, the doctor noticed my cholesterol levels and gave me statins while I was there. Not surprisingly, the muscle weakness reappeared. When I mentioned it to my doctor, he just said that he could prescribe a different one. I threw away the prescription. My dad (now 94) also noticed the weakness, so he stopped taking his statins a long time ago.

I'm 55. It is very likely that your LDL cholesterol is not being measured but computed through the Friedewald approximation (CT-HDL-TG/5). Just to know what your supposed cardiovascular risk is (hyperinsulinemia not directly considered because selling insulin is BIG business) use the UK calculator (QRisk) instead of the USA one (ASCVD): look for the LDL cholesterol box (that's right, it isn't there). Now ask yourself: what is SO important of a value that doesn't get measured and which is immaterial if it is 189 mg/dl but crucial if it is 190 mg/dl? By the way, my values a month ago: CT 355 mg/dl, HDL 113 mg/dl, TG 83 mg/dl. Once hyperinsulinemia is already discarded (our case), better focus on ferritin (donate blood) and vitamin D. Without our fear they don't have leverage. I am NOT going to restrict eggs, butter or saturated fat consumption at all.

The same results are in the Women's Health Initiative study (independent of pharma). A female friend, prescribed cholesterol lowering meds, had pain and weakness in her muscles as a 'side effect'. She stopped taking the medication but debilitating pain and weakness persisted. Her doctor recommended basic pain meds. I did a tiny amount of research and found that those meds lower coenzyme Q10, which is essential for cellular energy production. She started taking coenzyme Q10 and the pain/weakness symptoms disappeared within a couple of days. Yet her own doctor didn't even look into the possible, basic physiological pathway which might have caused the symptoms.

I always found it odd that the problem with COQ10 depletion was known for years and people put on statins were not told to supplement with COQ10. I was never told to take a supplement and only started to take it when I did my own research . I did eventually stop the statin after the MD kept telling me to take double the dose because he wanted my LDL to be lower than 140! Of course I felt miserable and his response was just take it every other day. Went keto-lost 56 lbs and ended up having to stop my BP meds and told the MD I refuse to take the statins anymore. HDL went up, Triglycerides dropped, VLDL dropped to 9. Of course LDL went up and the MD still tells me at every yearly check up to take a statin. PS I am a 70 y/o who can walk 3-5 miles and lift weights with little effort. Resting heart rate is 58. (PS had to educate my MD re:the HDL and Tri ratio-)

I remember what a physiology professor told me , LDL is not the real issue, that is small LDL.
It is a small cholesterol molecule that is used by the body to mark, to tag molecules, like proteins, that should be eliminated by the liver. At the end of this process those small LDLs are reteinded by the body and could cause arteriosclerosis.
All mechanisms are inflated by inflammation, mainly in the gut, that lead to a lot of molecules to get rid of

With in a week my hands and feet hurt so much that I couldn't use my hands and barely walk. I tried half a dozen statins and they all caused the same issue. I decided I've had enough and visited my cardiologist. No heart issues but my doctor was unable to bring my blood pressure down and the cardiologist hit the right medication that worked well for me. However he also insisted on statins saying that many people have ldl levels in the double digits. Now my stats. I'm 74. My triglycerides vary between 45 and 60. My hdl is 80 currently. My ldl was 198 but I tried niacin and dropped it down to 136. I recently had a heart stress test that showed no blockages. The doctor actually said I did well on the stress portion of the test. I've eaten a low carb diet (12 carbs per day) for the last 30 years. My issue is both my doctors have basically said if you don't do something about your ldl you're going to die. I'm 74. My dad died at 45, both my grandfathers died at 66. I feel like I'm doing something right for me. 69 , male, no symptoms of heart disease, my mom still alive at over 100, my dad died at 90 from lung cancer. Because I have high cholesterol and high LDL I had a CT scan of my heart - off the charts - 1002, cardiologist put me on a statin and now my LDL is 55. I had 2 treadmill stress tests - got my heart rate up to 165 without any symptoms. So, Im confused about taking statins - right now I think I will listen to my cardiologist, as he said, a CT score of 1002 is not trivial. Thoughts??

      @spcb77 16 дней назад

With your results, you really need to take statins, especially witth your ct scan result. Our doc explained to us that the statin 'cements' or hardens the deposits to the heart arteries to keep it from dislodging, coz if it dislodged and blocks the artery , a heart attack occurs. He said remorse is always at the end if medications are not taken.

Most people associate LDL with Cholesterol, they are not the same. LDL is the molecule that carries the Cholesterol around the body along with a lot of other essential nutrients. The fact is that if you were to go to your doctor and get a shot that eliminated your body's ability to make Cholesterol you would be reduced to a pile of sludge before you left the office. Cholesterol is needed in every cell of the body.

BOOM ! cholesterol is the brain fuel and foundational building block of all hormones. They went down the wrong road on this. It's what's causing inflammation in the vascular system that allows the cholesterol to stick. The environment causes the cholesterol problem. cholesterol itself is not a problem.

Watching and catching up from the UK. What is really happening is that all the toxic garbage in crappy foods and unhealthy habits/lifestyles among other factors are the main culprits causing all the damage. What we all need is proper education learning the dynamics how human body works within its complexity and the nutrional facts that promote health but they rather want people ignorant because the big industries are only creating customers just for profit. Thank you for speaking out big truths and raising awareness, Mike. Cheers 🎉

I live in Spokane Valley and work for 40 cardiology providers. I do 24-hour fasting. My PCP did a lab test and just sent in a rx without even talking to me. I sent him a message that he probably should order a more thorough lab vs. throwing statins at me without a conversation. I've never heard from that office again.

I use IF to reduce calories. KETO to eat cleaner. 2 day fasting to reset levels.
When you get within good height & weight body composition standards. You can eat carbs, fruits, you can eat x3 times a day, you can have sweet treats every other week.
Restrictive diets should be temporary for specific reasons. We should always be fluctuating between fasting, feeding, 2 meals a day, OMAD, x3 meals a day. Working out fasted, working out early a.m. Get creative and versatile with your diet and fitness.

Prolonged water fasting (7 days or more) is the quickest way to clear the arteries of plaque which consists of cholesterol, calcium and fibrins. Autopsies were once done on a large group of people that starved to death and the interesting thing noted was their arteries were all completely clear. Most people can avoid cardiovascular surgery if they did a prolonged water fast and adjusted their diet.
