Fun fact: AJ Johnson the comedian said that him and Robin Harris actually were going back and forth checking each other at the party but it was edited out of the film.
Brutus : Check that out. Tell him what you did, Rock. Rock : l beat a police sergeant, with his own club. Brutus : And didn't run after he did it. Rock : Hell, naw! The way they delivered those lines has lived rent free in my head for 30+ years lol. SO many quotables. House Party and Boomerang (another Reginald Hudlin masterpiece) captured the nuances of black american life in such a brilliant way. From the projects to the boardroom everything felt organic and unforced. Somehow unfortunately a lot of that has been lost in black film making since then. I'm thankful to have grown up in that era.
Full force was the MVP for me. They causes all the drama that drove the movie from beginning to end. Side note: flash from the five heartbeats was the main guy in the commercial.
Robin Harris was a beast.... Comedians that knew Robin said ...before he passed he was on his way to Comedic stardom ...he was supposed to originally be the host of Def Comedy Jam
Sharane- Teyana Taylor Sidney- Storm Reid Pops- Cedric the Entertainer Kid- Cordae Play- Woody McClain Bullies- DC Young Fly, Joey Badass, Duke Deuce Police- Corey Holcomb and Michael Rappaport Bilal- Mark Phillips
Damn, that’s not bad either! I saw someone else mention Cedric as Pops and Mark Phillips in one of the main roles too! So that seems to be pretty consistent. Also, I like storm Reid as Sydney, because she brings that cute innocence of the character, & she has the acting skills to be able to play that san same character with a little spark/edge. My only question is Teyana Taylor - I’m wondering is she now a little too old to play a high schooler, and still be believable as Sydney‘s teenage friend…? What a great suggestion though, I like it.
@@michaelgregory2583 just as my last comment credited, you are an old head lol. The movie wasn’t made for you. You don’t understand every generational topic the movie portrayed
MVP is tough to call in this movie but if I'm being honest, FULL FORCE has to be my MVP! this movie wouldn't have been the same without them. Quotables for days!! "I thought we were just gonna kick some ass, not burnin people up" - PeeWee lol
I could see...... Marcus Scribner as "Kid" Mark Philips (yes from RDC World) as "Play". Keke Palmer as "Sharane" Tessa Thompson as "Sydney" Cedric The Entertainer or George Wallace as "POPS" Comedian Earthquake as "The next-door complaining neighbor."
The reason that Kid N Play aren’t mentioned in the GOATs of hip-hop conversation is because they got overshadowed by hardcore gangsta rap. Fun Facts: Martin Lawrence & Robin Harris were also in Do The Right Thing, Martin Lawrence & Tisha Campbell were also in House Party 2 & Boomerang, Martin Lawrence & John Witherspoon were also in Talkin Dirty After Dark & Boomerang, Tisha Campbell & John Witherspoon were also in Boomerang & Sprung, Martin Lawrence & Darrell “Chill” Mitchell were also in House Party 2 & A Thin Line Between Love & Hate, John Witherspoon & Bebe Drake were also in Boomerang & Friday After Next. Ron Riser (Stanley from Friday) & Bentley Kyle Evans were in the bathroom when the toilet got messed up. Can we please get reviews on the following movies that were released in the 1990: King Of New York Mo Better Blues Def By Temptation
Man I NEEEEED to be on this podcast one day! Lol I love talkin movies and y’all make these discussions so fun to listen to. Some movies I hope you guys have on the slate Booty call Boyz N Da Hood Menace 2 Society Don’t Be A Menace Class Act He got game Coach carter Hardball

Robin Harris used to kill Birdland West in Long Beach back in the days 🤣shoutout to the old clubs in Long Beach Toboos, Golden Frog, Mz Whiz, Club Cannons, Golden Sails, The Gaslamp and most definitely the Long Beach Jazz Festival moms and crew would go super deep boxed wine Beach chairs cameras and gang of Fuji flim the memories
I've been slacking on not watching but I'm back at and I love yall chose this movie. One of my favorites. My MVP is the house party itself. Without every element of this party; the dancing, the rap battle, the sleepy dude in the corner, the auntie extra with the Johnny Taylor glasses, it was worth the risk of the cops and the ops. Salute to you kings 👑
My favorite thing about this movie is my transition watching it. I saw it when I was a kid/teenager and was like pops tripping. Kid only got in one fight…. I don’t understand why he was on punishment. To now as a father, he should’ve been whooping kid’s ass. Wtf kid doing sneaking out the house. My son better never try this shit. I love this movie!
Huge fan of bigg jah and now the blackbuster podcast. House Party is one of my favorite movie franchises. Fun fact; all of full force lines were ad lib💯
1:06:03 They didn't pass on it. They were involved in a lawsuit with New Line Cinema over the song 'Nightmare On My Street'. I think the Hudlin brothers wanted Will and Jazz but the studio vetoed it cause of the lawsuit.
17:17 That's cause they pulled that from Kid's real life. He was actually raised by his father after his mama died in a car accident when he was a child.
Chill & Groove were an actual rap duo in the early 90's....they were supposed to be kid n play in the movie but Kid n Play were super popular and gave more of a positive image...they talked about it on a podcast..
So little know fact about this movie. Aj Johnson the comedian had a roast session with Robin Harris on set. Epic stuff they cut out. Pops rip wasn't even supposed to have an in the house scene. 90% of his lines were improvised. They literally had to cast a wife roll and come back and shoot inside of the house scenes.
Bigg Jah, I feel you on actors from elsewhere BUT can pull off the "Raised in L.A." vibe... Not so easy. Chris Tucker did it as Smokey in Friday, that's about it 🤷🏾♂️
LVP....the dude that said, "look at the LOG in dat MF" was cast in probably the best Martin episode....Call me Almond....lol He was the creator of Martin.
And in high-school I had a bully that was all of full force wrapped int one. Dude was a black belt and totally loved messing with people. I had to avoid the areas he would frequent cause he ain't give a shit. Plus we ain't have no buff hall monitors at all so nobody to save me if he caught me slipping.
Fresh Prince came out in 1990...so He probably passed on the movie because he was filming the sitcom. I think everything happened the way it was supposed to.
APPRECIATE Y'ALL TAPPIN IN! WHICH MOVIES DO YOU WANT US TO REVIEW NEXT?!?
bad boys
She Hate Me
Definitely Boomerang
The Inkwell
@@takme2DamusicstoRE Gotta explore the other Reginald Hudlin directed masterpiece! Would've been a good drop for Valentine's Day lol.
I'm from a small town called "Fresh Off A Cop's Ass" ya makin me home sick... - Pops best line from the movie lol
Fun fact: AJ Johnson the comedian said that him and Robin Harris actually were going back and forth checking each other at the party but it was edited out of the film.
My favorite scene from House Party is Martin going crazy while Play was loading his DJ equipment. 😂😂 “leave it alone”
Martin said to Chill : man I told you to go over there way over there if bump this turntable again I’m kick yo fucking heart out !
My chest be hurting from that part 🤣🤣🤣chill was trippin
Brutus : Check that out. Tell him what you did, Rock.
Rock : l beat a police sergeant, with his own club.
Brutus : And didn't run after he did it.
Rock : Hell, naw!

Flash quoted the famous line. No my brother you got to buy your own.
The 90’s was a very special time … black folk started coming up… it was magic times
Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince passed on the movie due to being sued by New Line Cinema because of their song “Nightmare On My Street”.
It's only right we do this film next!! Mannnnnn can't wait for this discussion/breakdown!
"Ain't My Type of Hype" !!
Robin Harris was a beast.... Comedians that knew Robin said ...before he passed he was on his way to Comedic stardom ...he was supposed to originally be the host of Def Comedy Jam
My favorite part of house party was Robin Harris talking shit to the cops, kills me EVERYTIME
Sharane- Teyana Taylor

@@jamaldaniels5542 I didn’t necessarily hold myself to the high school limits of casting, I went strictly off of character personality. Preciate it!
The real House Party. Thank God. Last two episodes I've skipped. "Cause kid spelled backwards describes ya best" classic bar.
Fasho the real house party. Regardless of old heads not wanting to give due credit, Calmatic did his thang with the remixed modern version
What? that movie was trash

The MVP IS POPS - ROBIN HARRIS. The movie franchise wasn’t the same when he died.
Shirain confidence was everything…

Marcus Scribner as "Kid"
Mark Philips (yes from RDC World) as "Play".

Yes!
You need to be a casting agent Brewer! 🙌🏾
Favorite film of all time. Thank you for this 💥🙌🏾🔥🔥🔥
Also nobody ever heard the rumor that Baby Boy is a follow up to House Party…. Play is baby boy’s (Tyrese) dad…. 🤯
Yall need to put poll up for mvp of this movie. So hard Robin harris could sneaky win this
This is probably my favorite episode 💯
I don't think Full Force was as old as you guys think...or kid 'n' play and them as young as you think either.
Kid's curfew was 11pm
Bilal was the MVP cuz ain't no party without him.🤷🏿♂️
Thanks fellas. I really dug this review.
Paul Anthony was 30, Bowlegged Lou was 33, B-Fine was 35 in 1990
Aw man! J is the perfect lead for a big screen Jah movie!!!
I grew up wishing House Parties was like this in real life! Hands down in the Top 5 of Greatest Black movies and movies in general of all time!!
Thank God for the Brother Bigg Jah 💯
21:07 Actually Ain’t My Type of Hype was added after the fact that’s why it’s not apart of the soundtrack
I knew they had to do the original after watching the new movie let's make it right

Y’all should do Undercover Brother next.
This is 1 of my all time favorite movies the original House Party.
I still watch this movie till this day
17:57 Man I still tripped off how goofy he looked in the shower
You all should review “Sprung” next!!!
You guys always do an amazing job with your movie reviews!
Funny thing is, KID was feeling both.
The most unrealistic thing about this movie was the mail making it to the house the same day it’s was mailed out😂 but still a classic movie for me

LVP was Joe Torre, he was quiet in the cafeteria scene

Was Sydney’s last name Dean.. Because that was Wesley’s name in “White Man Can’t Jump” 🤯
Went to the movies to see this opening night
They gotta do Money Talks and Life
House party 2 was good too
Love the insight y'all put in on this classic movie. Whoever chewing the gum tho, gotta stop lol

"Well made Toast" LMAOOOO
Yall should do Harlem Nights. That cast had all the greats.
So glad they did the REAL House Party because I was not tuning in to the new one. From what I heard the movie was str8 trash.
Jah & tone knew this was the only way to make up for the last episode talking about that bs reboot, thank you
Hell yea
Tone's description of Play's character is hilarious and accurate lol 🤣🤣🤣.
We need House Party 2 & 3 breakdown, definitely 3
House Party in my Top 5 Favorite Movies of All Time
This is exactly what I thought that last episode was gonna be about. This was a major bounce back from a that major L of that so called remake.
Crazy, I just watched this last night!!! Love House Party.

That actually would’ve worked but Andre would’ve been way too eccentric. Big would’ve been the perfect person for Play’s role
"I got your back"....."yeah, way back "

Teyana Taylor for Charane...(AJ Johnson)
