Paid in Full is a 2002 American crime drama film directed by Charles Stone III. The characters Ace (Wood Harris), Mitch (Mekhi Phifer), and Rico (Cam'ron), are fictionally based on the 1980s Harlem drug dealers Azie "AZ" Faison, Rich Porter, and Alpo Martinez. The title of the film is borrowed from the 1987 album and song by Eric B. & Rakim.
In the late 1980s, Ace (Wood Harris) is a young man employed by a Harlem dry cleaning shop, working hard to stay out of the drug business. While making deliveries, he meets Lulu (Esai Morales), a drug dealer who convinces Ace to join him. Ace recruits his friends Mitch (Mekhi Phifer) and Rico (Cam'ron), and the trio become major players in the Harlem drug underworld, a violent business that will test the friends' loyalty and wits as the money rolls in and the dangers grow beyond their control.BlackBusters is a podcast focused on reviewing, celebrating, re-living and critiquing Black film. Ernest Dickerson got his inspiration for juice off of the real paid in full story. He grew up in that neighborhood at that time. Bishop is Rico ( alpo ). He talked about it on a documentary.
Wood Harris is versatile and I believe underrated. I been seeing him in believable roles starting with the gangsta in Above the Rim, a football player in Remember the Titans, drug kingpin in the Wire, a lawyer in some other small time film, Gooch in Next Day Air and some more projects. Dude is a beast. (Bokeem Woodbine is another underrated actor too)

Mitch was living in a room with his brother in that scene cuz that was his high school years…he went to jail in ‘84 and he was only 18/19 and that’s midway in the movie…also in the movie, Mitch had ppl selling for him(Remember the part he pulled up to collect money and dude said he was robbed and he told him he can’t sell unless he find that man)

@@sircharles9166 They all had their own apartments in real life. The movie just does not do a good job of retelling the story. AZ actually hates the movie.
I think one of the reasons why mitch was sharing a bedroom with his brother because the real life characters were really young like 16 17. But the real ace (AZ) said they were off with the film

the thing about paid in full that led to alot of the mishaps is the people don't realize that Azie, Mitch and Rico were teenagers. their inexperience played to their demise
I don’t feel like it was a hard switch for Pac. Notice that he looked up to the man going out in a blaze of glory, and how he was frustrated running from everyone. He was even willing to rob with Blizzard. It was always in him, the gun just gave him the power he always wanted. Even in his speech, he said, “He ain’t shit” also demonstrated his power by saying, “As soon I decide you ain’t shit, POW.”

My favorite over actor in this was an extra. When Mitch pulls up after he gets out and everybody goes over to greet him, one of the guys in the crowd does a little jig on the way over and it cracks me UP! 😂😂

Man, this was great, everything about it, especially the indepth breakdowns, 10 outta 10. Also, loved the Wire, Snowfall, Boyz n da Hood parallels.
Sidenote: Belly was a horrible, horrible movie, most overrated shit ever.

This was an excellent take on a classic with valid points. Some stuff Tony & Big Jah pointed out I never noticed in the movie. Makes me wanna go back and watch for the subtle nuances.
I think Bishop was always crazy and violent. After his first kill, he was scared, but liked the power of killing some one. He just snapped. Felt like he could do whatever he wanted to.

In real life Azie, Rich and Alpo had multiple houses and stash spots, and both azie and rich got screwed over by family members or people close to the family, thats why they didnt see it coming

I don't agree with what Rico did to Mitch at all. Def some snake ish. But I think it had more about not knowing about the 14 bricks than the birds themselves. Rico showed so much loyalty I think he was hurt not knowing the plan he got emotional and snapped. Still wrong and against bro code.

Paid in Full is def underrated, missed a good theater release. Wood Harris is a hood movie/ series legend between this and The Wire. Killed on Remember the Titans too.
