The Outfit is a 2022 crime gangster mob drama directed by first-time director Graham Moore, starring Mark Rylance, Zoey Deutch, Dylan O’Brien, Johnny Flynn and Simon Russell Beale. This is my The Outfit review.

I am not a mob movie watcher but one of my favorite actor was in this movie and I wanted to see him so badly in the theater and the movie was great and the acting and the twist and turns is this movies was just so good.

All the twists and turns in the early part of the film kind of got me lost. But then came the last 20-30 minutes when all those twists and turns, all those loose threads were pulled nicely together into a neat little bow made for a "I didn't see that coming" moment and made for an enjoyable movie.

I saw it today. Glad to see it in theaters as I want to support the smaller-budget grownup movie scene. I will say my expectations grew within the first 20 minutes, mainly because this movie did was what very few do these days: it featured people sitting and talking for an extended period, illustrating their characters through the dialogue. I feel like this is a dying art in popular cinema today. I also liked the simplicity of it, and I liked the guys who played the mobsters, especially the guy who looked like a young James Woods.
But sadly, as you indicated, the film soon becomes too concerned with twists and double-crosses, leading to a denouement that seemed totally rushed and farfetched, just like the one in "Death on the Nile" (which I wouldn't mind getting a review of if you have the time).
"Outfit" is yet another movie that tries to maintain its atmosphere for the entire film and draw you into a certain mindset that doesn't necessarily follow from the dialogue or character motivations. It's like the filmmakers have a beginning and an end in mind and the characters and everything that happens is all just a means to getting us there.
Also, it seems like it's somewhat taboo to depict mobsters as intelligent. It certainly seems taboo to depict them as protagonists (just a side point).
Anyway, end of rant. Not a bad movie. Rylance is pretty cool. Glad I caught it.

This looks awful. This isn’t even about the Chicago Outfit. The Outfit wasn’t a thing/a legitimized, organized, structured LCN family until 1933. No one wants to see this old timey prohibition nonsense. The most interesting Outfit era is the 70s-present day.

@@uncledrosselmeyer6480 I don't mean to argue with you, but is that why "no one" watches Peaky Blinders? Why "no one" watched Boardwalk Empire? I admit Outfit was mishandled and underwhelming but there's definitely an audience for old-timey gangster content. Hollywood just doesn't know how to make movies that are as intelligent as TV.

Ok im going to be honest, i watched this movie because people said that it was so good, also this movie is supposed to be thriller genre but i felt like it was more like a comedy genre, I didn't feel any tension or fear. Also the dialogues were kinda empty.

I saw it yesterday and was struck that it was a live play. It certainly could have been and I enjoyed it. I liked all the twists and also the end. I just suspend believably like I would any Si Fi movie so being such a stickler for detail making sense isn't a big deal for me. I just went where they wanted me to and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Boardwalk Empire was set in NJ, not Chicago.

It's mostly Atlantic City N.J. but it dose have a lot of Chicago in it, especially the last two seasons and some N.Y.C.

I’d love to see something about Nicky Scarfo, though I don’t doubt Sonny Steelegrave on Wiseguy (old 80s show on CBS) was based on him.

The movie had my full and total attention until it turned out the big bad mob boss everyone was terrified about was a black lady. In 1900s Chicago..... C'mon now. Completely lost my suspension of disbelief.
