- The Honda fit is small, nimble, and engaging to drive. But it's kinda slow. Fortunately the aftermarket is huge for these cars, and this one has a full suspension and turbocharger!

When the guy who drives everything is this excited and giddy about driving a fast/slow car, seems like it is a winner.
At some point you have to seem enthusiastic about what you're driving. If he said "this thing is utter ass and slower than a drunk turtle" a ton of Honda guys would get butt hurt and they would lose revenue. If he talks so much shit about a 200 hp BRZ you can only imagine what he really thinks about this car. I bet anything with less than 300 horsepower is painful to drive for him at this point.

Matt had more fun driving this little Honda than most of the high horsepower cars he's driven. That's what it's all about
Anyone else notice how much more fun Matt seemed to be having driving a slow car fast vs. a fast car slow? Drives the point home that you don't need 400 HP to have a fun car... although it doesn't really hurt anything if you do.

That's probably my second favorite build on this channel. I felt bad that he had turbo problems, I'm happy it held together for most of the run though.

ROBtimesTEN i'm not a honda expert, but i think "i-Vtec" is the one with dual cam lobes for that kick. You see it on the side of civic si's. and regular "vtec" is the for economy, emissions, etc...
velocity211 i-vtec is what they branded the slightly more advanced system introduced with the K series engines back in the early 2000's. It has to do with the ability to advance the timing on the intake cam. The only real difference between "economy" vs. "performance" i-vtec is econo only has vtec on the intake cam while the other has both. Regular vtec is found on the older generation of engines, (B, H, F and D series). Honda doesn't really make a point of making any of this clear so you want to do your research if you're trying to piece together a cheap K swap.

I had an 08 stick sport Honda Fit. I loved that car. Believe it or not, I made 400 dollars after selling it 2 years later with 20k more miles.
I wouldn't go that far, but this thing was great fun.

Matt, this is the most i have seen a car make you giggle in a long time, just shows you dont need mad amounts of power to have fun!
I love the look on Matt's face as he whips this thing around corners. This car by all rights is the kind of thing a lot of guys would shit on by default. But Matt knows that almost every car has strengths and weaknesses and appreciates when somebody takes a Blandmobile-with-potential and really squeezes every bit of fun out of it. Any rich asshole can buy an already fast car and make it a little bit faster. But for my money it's all about the guys with modest means who can take a slow car and make it, well not necessarily "fast," but more fun to drive. Hats off to the owner and hats off to Matt for showcasing this car.

I met this guy and saw his fit in person in Anaheim a few months ago. We had a little Evo meet at The Block and he showed up. His fit is super clean :) (Thumbsup)
The first gen Fit has always been my favorite. Modified, even better!
What I really Like about these One Takes is the personality that Matt brings. You can really tell when he's enjoying himself and when he really likes the car. This fit and a few others have shown this and had this type of reaction from Matt.
So cool to see Matt's most fun one take is a Honda Fit. Who would have guessed that!? Definitely the purpose of these videos.
This was my favorite episode yet. Add for tuning in oversteer, the easiest way would be getting an adjustable rear bar and tube it tighter for more, that way it can be reduced for more grip. Raising the rear up will give a lift off rotation better, so it's slightly different methods. It's very refreshing seeing someone taking time to tune and test their suspension! Nicely done, both of you!

This is cool. You can tell he loves his Honda Fit and even though he doesnt have a super car he´s truly an enthusiast, and Matt´s really enjoying this ride which probably made this guy feel great.

When I first got my license I sent a 25 mph left hand going 70 in my 07 Fit and LEGIT drifted it since the rear tires swung off road in the dirt and my front wheels stayed on the asphalt, I looked back rq to see the turn markers flying by 3 feet from my rear corner, downshifted to 4th and pulled myself out of the dirt and immediately began shaking from the adrenaline. I never sent that road anywhere near as hard again, nor any other. I swear that if I didn't play a few driving games I would've had no clue what to do and wrecked my beauty.

I remember not knowing what to buy a couple years ago and this convinced me of a fit. 4 years later and i still have it stock. funny this came up now that im thinking of modding it. I love this little car.

400+HP in a FWD sounds terrible unless you're only doing straight-line pulls.. understeer city.

This has got to be my favorite episode yet. Fast slow cars are my favorite! It has an underdog feel. Seeing the attention to detail in tuning is awesome as well. That looks like a well sorted Jazz/Fit. In regards to oversteer, you can stiffen an adjustable rear bar, or can raise it (the rear) up a bit. Raising it should give a little more lift off oversteer so be mindful if that while tuning. That is a great little car tho!
I love the Fit/Jazz I bought my one that's the same model as this for very little money and it's been my favorite car. I put wider lighter Buddy Club P1 wheels with Bridgestone RE003 tyres, lowered with Pedders Sports Ryder shocks and springs and a Ultra Racing strut bar and it handles like its on rails with no under steer or oversteer. The limitations for grip in this car on mountain roads are now my fear not the tyres. It's not a fast car in a straight line NA but that's not where these cars excel. The Jazz is also a great commuter with not too much road noise and a surprisingly good quality interior for the price. It's also immensely practical with the magic seats and I can never get over 7L/100km fuel consumption that's so awesome. Another thing that I love about the Jazz is the engine, it's very characterful smooth and loves to rev with single cam VTEC switching between 8 and 16 valve engine which gives it a real boost of power at 4600rpm up until the 6.5k redline.
Love my 07 sport Fit, ain't the fastest thing but i do enjoy it. Glad to see there are still GD3 fans out the and videos of them.
I don't think I've ever seen you that happy in slow fast car, Matt! This video definitely backs one if the main reasons why I wanted to get a Honda Fit before. Wish you would travel to other states to do one takes, I have a build I'm working on and when done would love for you to check it out!
There's no point, unless someone covers all the travel expenses. The only way to make money on RUclips is to not spend any money in production.
TheSmokingTire I've got a 7.5L buick v8 swapped into an 89' mercedes e-class with decent suspension and brakes as well as a 500hp 71' riviera on QA1 coilovers that i assume you'd have a blast in.... but i don't assume you'll get a chance to, since you once mentioned on the podcast that my one random town in the midwest is an "absolute shit hole with affordable property" lmao.

It just shows, he is having more fun in a little honda jazz with good mpg than he seems to in most 500bhp monsters.
Good thing about small Hondas, mainly hatchbacks... is they hug the road with the right suspension setup... I enjoyed mine, I owned a few. Like most Hondas... They're light, fun, easy to work on, cheap to fix, and great on gas.
Looking at 89 hatch. What would be easy swap to make it fun to drive.

I have actually driven a 2015 Corolla and it is definitely a comfortable car. I have a 95 civic hatch and I love it, personally I would take it over any new civic. It all comes down to personal preference.

Lucky Luke someone sent me an RX8 today. It didn't have much in the way of mods, but I may still get it on the schedule. I really didn't like it when I reviewed it new in 2011.
Next to the Venom GT this is the happiest I've seen Matt in a car. And that says a lot.

A stock GD3 is just as fun to toss around! The stock suspension is pretty damn good itself. I run crappy walmart Goodyear Eagle Authority tires (all season sport tires) and this car does not even chirp u der the fastest turns. It's like a go kart.

is this better than rezas 1989 civic si hatchback? i started looking for an 89 civic after watching that episode of smoking tire...but its not easy to find a good 89 hatchback now..might just go with a fit if its better than the 89 civic
i personally love this version more due to it being more in a personal level meaning he actually talks to real street tuners and its always fun seeing real every day cars that are tricked out lol

Ive got an 07 stock fit sport 220k miles and it runs strong still. Super fun zipping through traffic
I had the first Greddy turbo kit on my Fit in 06' I pestered them to bring over the Japanese kit but they made a new one for the US market and used my car to prototype. It ended up making 174whp at 7psi. I got the car the first day it came out in April 2006. Mine had a tubular stainless manifold but production models had a cast iron manifold.
Fits are mental (for what it is stock) with mods, like the J's one or the Spoon !

I honestly think that this is the most smiling I've ever seen Matt doing in any car.
Even my base model 07 Fit is really fun around windy roads and coastal highways, and I've put 400,000km on the motor with no problems outside of regular maintenance! Fun little cars even if they are a little under-powered.
Cool vid, Matt. I test drove a few different Fits and always thought they were pretty cool cars that could just use a little bit more power and some suspension mods.

The 1st time I drove a 2008 Fit on a twisty rd, I had a smile on my face. Even stock, the GD chassis really impresses me as far as bang-for-buck. I can imagine a turbo would be a riot. The GE chassis is more refined, almost boringly so. I prefer the handling of the GD, but the interior and slightly larger body on the GE8 is almost worth the ho-hum driving experience. Almost...
stick a GE on coilovers and they fly round corners

Supposedly honda make the Fit/jazz with good chassis's. Glad to see he didn't dick up the suspension geometry by lowering it much, and selecting good spring rates.
