I really really miss my 2008 Fit Sport manual. My son just turned 16 and I’m trying to persuade him into looking for a good 2nd gen. In fact, I’d love one for myself. They are amazing in so many ways. The amount of stuff it could haul inside blew peoples mind.
I really, really like my partner's 2007 Honda Fit! It's light; it's economical; it has "get up and go" even when hauling quite a lot. It's surviving our beagle puppy. We plan to tow it behind our future RV to use as our "daily".
Because Civic in here are quite expensive, so honda Jazz/Fit would make more sense for us to drives cheap modable econobox. But for now Honda Fit/Jazz is discontinued for SE Market and replaced by less desireable Honda City Hatchback. Also, since Honda City now it's also get more expensive, now we got even cheaper Honda Brio for cheap fun little hatchback. Its even more tossable than Fit although with much more smaller engine (1.2 litre). And because of this people start moving from Honda Fit/Jazz to Honda Brio for small honda hatchback.
V-Tec changes the valve timings to open the valves longer to make the engine perform better(and use more gas). It’s hard to explain how it activates more aggressive cams to change the valve timing but there are plenty of videos if you’re actually interested(donut’s vid is great)!
Old school VTEC is variable valve lift, not really timing (although there is a bit of variance with the can profile, but most of it is the lift). It was with I-VTEC where it got true variable valve timing as well.
It has I-vtec. However, it's single cam I-vtec so it's not nearly as aggressive as a dual cam variant. It's mostly for efficiency in the Fit. It also adjusts ignition timing as well. And the VTEC is actuated by oil pressure. Once a certain degree of pressure is detected the secondary (aggressive) cam position is locked in place.
Thanks for the informative video, I've had a Fit for over a decade, and so many things in here I didn't know. I have a 2011 (Gen 2), and I still absolutely love it. I'm very surprised to realize it's fading away, there are still so many of them here on the road in SoCal, I'd have guessed it was as popular as ever. I'm not a racer, but have never had any complaints about the pickup in this thing. And it really is kind of like an SUV! You can pack a HUGE load of cargo, but just not with 4 passengers. But for 3-4 pals on an overnight trip, or a couple on longer ride, it's beautiful. Alway loved the styling too. The overall shape reminds me of a sci-fi spacecraft... maybe not the coolest starfighter, but like a shuttle or cargo craft you'd see in a spaceport scene ;)
Well just install an aggressive bumper lip, a sports exhaust, 17" Rims, sports replacement air filter, tinted windows! Voila! You hve the coolest " starfigher or shuttle"
I've had a Honda Jazz/fit second gen. EX manual, for 6 years now, great car! Get 47 mpg (UK) running round the doors, that's pretty good as lead free fuel is £1.50 per litre ($1.80) at my local filling (gas) station. I'm 6feet 5 inches.
I've got a 2017 Fit EX without the leather, and I love it! Consumption her first 20000 Km was 7.1 L/100 km which is up in the 40s in Imp. MPG. Plenty of power---double that of my former 87 Civic!---nice handling, and tracks as surely as the other Hondas too. 76 Civic & 80 Accord sedan. And all the SPACE. Gosh.
I totally agree. I bought a Jazz Sport for the wife a couple of years ago and I love driving it myself. It doesn't have loads of power but it's fun to drive.
Gas in Cali is outrageous and was daily driving a thirsty Tacoma. Too expensive for commuting to work. I happened to pick up a 17’ Fit Manual for a good price. Love love love this car! Was getting over 40mpg on the freeway. Now only use the truck on weekends. Theses Fits sell pretty quickly , especially the manuals. Wish the new gen4 Fits would come to the US, but honestly, I like the looks of the Gen2&3 better. Oh well, another great car loss for us.
Thanks for using my car (Taro Fit) for the GD3 segment! Not long after, the engine blew up due to hydrolock lol. However it's back with some more J's Racing goodies :)
I've had my 15 LX 6 speed for about a year now. It's a fantastic little car. Very solid in corners even with the stock suspension, gets mid 30s MPG even with me beating on it, has cargo space for days, and being a Honda, it has one for the best manual transmissions you could ask for and is stupid easy to work on.
The Fit kind of morphed into the HR-V. I've got both an '10 Fit and '16 HR-V. These are the best cars I've had, never break, good mileage, both hold a lot of stuff. Even the HR-V can be fun to drive.
I purchased my 2008 Honda Fit sport jazz back in September 2007. It still run like a new car. It was made in Japan. It is 16 years old, and I love this car 5 speed automatic transmission. It have power on the expressway.
Love my fit. In college, I’d lay down the seats in the back and sleep. Also the small size was perfect to fit into tighter parking spaces. Great car to also take the dogs out for a drive. Now we call it my mini mini van.
I just got a 2015 EX 2 months ago due to health problems and not being able to get in and out of my Elantra easily. I have had 60 cars in my life, mostly sports cars from a NA 86 RX-7 to a 94 Viper, with several Corvettes in between. This car is a hoot to drive and I actually like the CVT. No harsh shifting in the corners that break the tires free and it is just always in the power band. It isn't fast and doesn't handle as well as my 1995 Corvette, but damn it is fun taking it to the limits and not being 100 MPH over the speed limit. Everyone who has sat in it is impressed by all the room and ease of entry and exit. I had proximity remotes back in my 94 and 95 vettes, but you still needed to use the key to crank it. Now my keys never leave my pockets . I could never go back to conventional keys after using a start/stop button proximity key.
Love the 3rd gen but they're selling for 15 to 18k in Puerto Rico 🤦🏻♂️ ended up getting an SE corolla hatchback. Thing is honestly super sweet for a comfortable daily. Manual is super friendly also. Had a tc with a super heavy clutch, so thing is honestly a breeze compared. Love the vids, really been bringin' the heat lately 😂😎🍻
Paid $14k for my 15, but I still love it. Makes me wish I got one in 2019 instead. I got a 13 Accord instead of a Fit (about the same price). The Accord was a good car, but not as fun.
I have a 2011 model with 200,000 km on it - the engine still runs very smoothly. Next year I'll need new headlights - mine are getting dim - and new brakes - I haven't had any problems at all so far. I have now taken rust precautions. With my driving style it consumes 5l/100km= 48 mpg (US). When I go on vacation, I sleep quite comfortably in the back of the car (I'm 170cm tall, but 72 years old) I'll keep it until I die or can't drive anymore.
The stock suspension on these are already good which is why muegen has been tuning them for years. They have a good basis for a good track car from the get go. My GE8 is by far way more fun in the corners than any other hatchback from the same time period. Why? Because of it’s stiff suspension. Handles bump like trash, but can go quick in corners and thats a tradeoff i’m personally all for
Been Fit shopping in Canada in 2024. Base model gen 1 Fits start at 4-5000 cad (3000-4000 usd). And if you want a Sport (fogs and bodykit) you are looking at 7000-8500 (5800-7500usd) Pretty insane for an economy car to hold that type of value 15 years later.
I had a 2009 I put 190k one with no issues before I was in a wreck. A bit underpowered and seats were a bit tight but if you're average build this is a great car. I loaded this thing up all of the time no issues and once I lowered it and added a rear sway bar, it rode on rails. Kinda want to find another one .
Glad I bought the honda fit 2020 EX the last model before they discontinued it. I've moved between so many apartment's chasing my school and degrees across states.
I ordered a new 2007 sport with manual trans when they first came to the states. I kept it until around 2012 and sold it. I remember my best mileage was 42.3 on a trip and my casual driving got me around 36 or 37 mpg. I rarely drove it hard except when I would occasionally get on a road with lots of curves. I sold it around 2012. If I could do over I would have kept it. If they were still available new today with a manual transmission I would probably get one. Gas prices and the economy had a lot to do with sales and Honda started shoving CVT's in them and adding a lot of options which is nice in a way but it drives up the purchase price too. The 2007 had a few nice things but was still basic compared to higher end vehicle's and that allowed people to afford them. If Honda kept it reasonably priced they could still sell a lot right now because not everyone can afford the prices most vehicle's sell for today.
I have a 2015 EX with the 6 sp. manual. Great car!! No problems with it yet and it's getting close to 70,000 miles on it. Might take it in to get the intake valves cleaned because it is, after all, a direct injected engine. And those valves just build up carbon. It also has a touch of oil dilution but nothing like the CRVs and Civics from 2016 to 2020! I change it's oil more regularly than most people do at 3,000 to 4,000 miles. It has even gone on super long trips. The only failing on long trips is you have to stop for gas more often than most cars. You might only get 320 to 340 miles on a tank! They don't have a very big gas tank. My ex drove it 6,700 miles in one trip. From Lehi Utah to Miami Florida with a few days in Orlando. Then up to Greensboro N.C. and then back home to Lehi Utah!! Ran like a champ the whole way and she drove the entire trip by her lonesome, as I had to work.
I have a 2008 Honda Fit automatic. 36 mpg and lots of power. I was reluctant to buy it because it looked so small. After owning it and hauling so much in it, I will only be buying Fits or Prius! They run $5000-$6000 so are affordable.
I have a 2020 Fit and it is a great car. It isnt fast but the suspension is pretty stiff, its great on gas, and you can comfortably fit 4 adults in it.
Honda fit might appear to be a small car due to it's smaller wheel but it is not for the exact reason. The wheels takes a large space in a car but in a Honda fit they are tucked in so well.
Love your video! Love the Fit too! Just found a 2020 Sport 6MT with low miles, bought it (for too much), love it totally. Worth every penny! Fit is Go!
Every time my Prelude breaks I think to myself "should have bought a Fit." Don't get me wrong love my 4th gen, but you just can't beat the Fit when it comes to reliable fun.
i love my 2010 at the time so light and manual was awesome the 3rd gen was assembled in Mexico and i heard people who i spoke to, encounter same issue as Golf
Thanks for the story. Just picked up a 2013 yesterday. Hoping it brings back all the vibes from the del Sol CRX and civics that I have owned in the past.
I bought a new 2015 Fit, automatic LX model for $17330. I sold it in 2024 for $7500 with 93k miles. That’s $91/month! The only maintenance was fluid changes (transmission, brake, oil, antifreeze), a battery, windshield wipers, and tires.

@Mark Roden, thanks for making this video praising the Honda Fit/Jazz, which I agree is deserving of praise. I test drove a 2007 Honda Fit Sport (manual) when it was new, and loved it. Would have purchased it if it wasn’t for the dealer markups in the US at that time. I have to correct/comment on your historical notes about the Fit. The Fit was not actually a direct competitor to the VW Golf, because the Golf was one size larger than the Fit. The Civic is Honda’s direct competition to the Golf (in a class called the c-class in Europe). The Fit actually competes with the VW Polo, in the b-class. Also, the VW Golf wasn’t “rising in popularity” in the US in the late 90’s - it had been in the market, doing pretty well, since the 1970’s. Nor was the Golf the only (or most popular) hatchback in the US market either. It was one of the first in the US market starting around 1976 (as the VW Rabbit), but soon there were many competing hatchbacks like the Honda Civic, Dodge Omni/Plymouth Horizon, Chevy Chevette, Mazda GLC, Toyota Tercel, Toyota Starlet, etc. Hatchbacks were a big segment in the US car market at that time, many more models beyond the VW Golf. The real reason Honda decided to bring the Fit to the US was because of the rise in gas prices in 2005/2006. Which motivated carmakers to bring their foreign market fuel efficient small cars to the US. Eg. Ford Fiesta, Mazda2, Chevy Spark, etc.
I just bought a 2008 Honda Fit as a daily driver. 5spd with about 175k miles on it. Cleaner than shit. $3k. I couldn't be happier. Lol. This thing is amazing.
getting a 2012 auto honda fit (jazz as its called in aus where im from) in a few weeks from my aunt ive gotten lots of driving time in it already and its fun to drive, it turns really good i always know where im going to be facing the turning is reliable super fun to drive on windy roads like the great ocean road. i also still see them all the time on the streets and second hand they still go for 15-20k which is crazy considering theyre over 10 years old and often have a lot of km on them, im super exited and you already know im going to be modding it pretending im smokey nagata
VTEC (described as Variable Valve Timing & Lift Electronic Control, but stands for Valve Timing Electronically Controlled) is a system developed by Honda to improve the volumetric efficiency of a four-stroke internal combustion engine, resulting in higher performance at high RPM, and lower fuel consumption at low RPM.
I had a GE before my CU2, gonna be selling it to buy a GE again and K swapping it, now that there's write ups and parts more readily available for the process, I'm considering keeping a stock K24z3, the suspension might change too, I enjoyed the stock suspension while doing some street racing(freeways aren't as straight as in the US here, had a mate record one of my rear wheels lifting around 115mph)
The Fit is probably the best car in its class. That’s saying almost nothing though so as far as tuning goes it’s not going to be a bang for the buck situation.
Honda Fit is an amazing little car and for me the best looking one is the 2015-19 model! As a Civic lover/owner, the Fit embodies what the first two generations of the Civic had and eventually lost over time and later generations. Not too wild about the current 2020- Fit (or Jazz as it’s called in the Japanese market), bigger and lost some of what made the first ones fun and cool, but at least it’s around for one last generation!
Around $3,000? What country are you in? I would love to get one. I prefer the manual myself as long as it's not above a 5 speed. But I've yet to see one of those for $3,000.
I owned a 2nd and 3rd gen. These were great cars. I caught a lot of flack for driving them but I didn't care. I am ready to ditch my 22 Accord sport for another gen 3.
I actually like the 2nd Gen Fit the best in the looks department. We had one for a few years, but I didn't much like it's manual. Granted, the other vehicle we had at the same time was my S2000 that I've had for years so I may be spoiled in the shifter department. I would be very keen to try out the 3rd generation's manual. I'm sad they stopped making them just from a "vehicles are getting so stupidly huge" standpoint let alone the fact it was an amazing economy car option, great college car, first car, you name it.
my first car was a Honda Fit 2002 and while it was all beat up because my mother had it before, it served me really well! Very Economic and reliable car fun fact: The Honda Fit 2002 actually had 8 spark plugs.
@@littleswansplaygrownd6817With the GE generation (2nd gen), they dropped the i-DSi engine (the 8V engine with 8 spark plugs) in favor of a single i-VTEC variant of the L-series. The i-DSi variant of the 1st generation GD had phenomenally great fuel economy but it lacked top end grunt.
I just bought a RHD 2008 Fit in Japan. I liked my 2011 Golf TDI better (until VW got caught), but it's a great little city car. And I'm 6'4" with a 1st gen M2 stashed stateside...

Doesn't the engine in Honda fit have variable valve lift?
@@alikiyani420it has, but not the idsi
Old school VTEC is variable valve lift, not really timing (although there is a bit of variance with the can profile, but most of it is the lift). It was with I-VTEC where it got true variable valve timing as well.
doesnt that pretty much every engine do ?
Gosh.
Just got a 2013 with 6k miles so practically brand new and im in love with it 😁
I totally agree. I bought a Jazz Sport for the wife a couple of years ago and I love driving it myself. It doesn't have loads of power but it's fun to drive.
I work with a guy who has a k24 swapped Fit as a daily driver. It’s a completely unassuming monster that he takes his kids to work in.
Its only underrated in Western Market. Honda fit/jazz in Asia are everywhere
The 1st and 2nd gen are by far my favorite
“The Fit is Go.” That’s a blast from the past. 😄
I have 3rd gen facelifted 2019 6 speed all black, under 15k on the odometer! Love my car!
Yeah the 3rd Gen is still pricy
I got a 2013 you can fit all kinds of stuff in that thing it's an amazing little car I'm glad I got it
THIRD UPLOAD YOU ARE ON THE GRIND!!!!! MARRY ME PLEASE!!!!

Now wait just one minute (thank you tho bro)
The stock suspension on these are already good which is why muegen has been tuning them for years. They have a good basis for a good track car from the get go. My GE8 is by far way more fun in the corners than any other hatchback from the same time period. Why? Because of it’s stiff suspension. Handles bump like trash, but can go quick in corners and thats a tradeoff i’m personally all for
im keeping my 2017 Fit Ex.. i love it
Been Fit shopping in Canada in 2024. Base model gen 1 Fits start at 4-5000 cad (3000-4000 usd). And if you want a Sport (fogs and bodykit) you are looking at 7000-8500 (5800-7500usd)
Pretty insane for an economy car to hold that type of value 15 years later.
I'm gonna try to scoop up a 2nd gen soon for my first proper car as they aren't too expensive and should work perfectly for my needs.
You’ll enjoy it. I’ve owned one for 2 years, and it’s a really good car
We have one we bought with 61k kms on it, now it has 115k and it has given us 0 problems
They run $5000-$6000 so are affordable.
idk how long youve had it for. but it took me a couple of months to learn that the back seats recline a little
@@andresacosta5318 I did know that. How do you recline the seats on the 2007 and 2008 models?
A hella underrated car you should do is the saturn sky redline I'm seeing those for Penny's on the dollar
I have a 2020 Fit and it is a great car. It isnt fast but the suspension is pretty stiff, its great on gas, and you can comfortably fit 4 adults in it.
My fit was totaled recently at a stoplight. I miss it, but they're cheap and getting a new one is easy
Keep your head up man you’ll get another
Just bought a fit 2013 67k miles 8.2k kinda expensive lol
@Faus_XV10 first and early second gens can be found for 4-6
@@MyRcGoSlow not bad I still see them for 12k-15k
Huh? A 2013 Fit Sport in my area is going for $12,000
Honda fit might appear to be a small car due to it's smaller wheel but it is not for the exact reason. The wheels takes a large space in a car but in a Honda fit they are tucked in so well.
I have a 2018 sport with the 6 speed transmission and I love it, I have some goodies from spoon on it and I honestly plan on keeping to forever
Love your video! Love the Fit too! Just found a 2020 Sport 6MT with low miles, bought it (for too much), love it totally. Worth every penny! Fit is Go!
I just bought a manual ‘17, love it!
2018 Fit Sport in grey. I love this car! After I pay it off in a few months I’m going to upgrade the wheels.
There will never be another car quite like the Honda Fit!
Every time my Prelude breaks I think to myself "should have bought a Fit." Don't get me wrong love my 4th gen, but you just can't beat the Fit when it comes to reliable fun.
i love my 2010 at the time
so light and manual was awesome
the 3rd gen was assembled in Mexico and i heard people who i spoke to, encounter same issue as Golf
YEESS MOOREEE HONDA FIT CONTENTT!!!
2:50 i couldn't agree more, i drive a 4 door 1995 civic
The 2ed Gen are the best! The 3rd Gen doesn’t have the dash cup holder… which was a seller for me… gonna miss that when my fit goes!

Customized Honda Fit content is...SCARCE!! That's what we want.👀💯👍
I am on my second Honda fit 2019 still a very good car, 2008 had 300,000miles on it
getting a 2012 auto honda fit (jazz as its called in aus where im from) in a few weeks from my aunt ive gotten lots of driving time in it already and its fun to drive, it turns really good i always know where im going to be facing the turning is reliable super fun to drive on windy roads like the great ocean road. i also still see them all the time on the streets and second hand they still go for 15-20k which is crazy considering theyre over 10 years old and often have a lot of km on them, im super exited and you already know im going to be modding it pretending im smokey nagata
2sec gen was by far the best of all of them
VTEC has a secondary cam that activates at around 3500-4000rpm that lifts the valves higher thus letting more air and fuel in. From my understanding.
Honda should've had a si version of the fit with a k20 from the factory
I had a GE before my CU2, gonna be selling it to buy a GE again and K swapping it, now that there's write ups and parts more readily available for the process, I'm considering keeping a stock K24z3, the suspension might change too, I enjoyed the stock suspension while doing some street racing(freeways aren't as straight as in the US here, had a mate record one of my rear wheels lifting around 115mph)
The Fit is probably the best car in its class. That’s saying almost nothing though so as far as tuning goes it’s not going to be a bang for the buck situation.
Strangly in europe they call this model the honda jazz
Yes they do but on the inside it’s pretty much the exact same
@@markroden same car different name
Mine are 2004 honda jazz i-dsi, comfortable car and rarely go to gas station.
Yes agree. The 3rd gen fit gk is my favourite
It's also called Honda Fit for Japanese Market. Thats Other Asian countries whi got Jazz nameplate.
@@kotarojujo2737 How cool, didn't know that. Isn't there also a sedan version of the 3rd generation called the Breeze in Japan?

I guess you could say it Honda “Fit”s for everyone
Ahhh you sly dog
3k will get you a rust bucket nowadays stop lying 😂😂
glad people are starting to respect the honda fit (sports car)
Honda Jazz everywhere else right?
Not everywhere else, but some places yes
I wish i can find one for under $3k. Decent ones are at least $8k, might as well get an 8th gen SI
my first car was a Honda Fit 2002 and while it was all beat up because my mother had it before, it served me really well! Very Economic and reliable car
fun fact:
The Honda Fit 2002 actually had 8 spark plugs.
my 2006 gd1 fit also have 8 sparks. I think from the 2nd gen they became 4.
