    My mother put an 'ad' on facebook to ask a boy 17-21!, (i was 17 at the time) to ask me out. She blocked me from seeing it. Fun fact, I'm a lesbian and my girlfriend was pissed at my mom about it. She still is.

    i interpreted "unworthy, though becoming less so daily" as implying that the man should be always improving himself. maybe i'm being too kind, but the whole tone was overselling his daughter, it seems weird he would switch to deprecation at the end.

    This has NOTHING to do with religion. This has to do with a father sticking his nose in his daughter's personal life, where it doesn't belong, under the guise of religion.

    • @TheUnit332
      @TheUnit332 8 лет назад

      +tranquility Religions are pillars of conservatism in the modern West, especially in America. The Abrahamic religions are all teach rather strict gender roles, some less so than other - but it still remains. I don't blame TYT when they call out religion for being archaic, by definition, its origin is just that.

    • @tranquility9325
      @tranquility9325 8 лет назад

      +TheUnit332 I understand where you are coming from but since that is such a super hot topic, it's easy to lose focus on what the real issue is, which is the father being out of line.

    • @TheUnit332
      @TheUnit332 8 лет назад

      tranquility True, but it would be interesting to see from where the father is coming from with such conservative ideas, no? Let's be honest here, religion plays a major role, especially in America with perpetuating such behavior. This is even more of a pressing issue in the South. A friend of mine was told in Sunday school in the 90s that women were subservient to men and even that blacks were inferior to whites.
      In the link I am providing, you will be able to quickly scroll through and see the graphs that show the most religious region of America also corresponds to many other things. They may not be caused directly by each other, but their is a shared connection in the South.

      +TheUnit332 Whoever told your friend that, was most likely taught that twistedness so they didn't know any better. But yeah I tend to stay away from such hot topics such as religion and politics bec it's way too easy to get caught up in that spider's web and lose focus of the real topic which is for whatever reason her father is out of line.

  • @ashitakaharuo

    actually i understood the part about the potential husband rather as "you're worthless now but you are still eligible if you are on a better way". so that it would be a condition that he is a repenting christian or something like that. it doesn't really make the entire thing better, but i feel there is a bit of a misunderstanding going on here.

      Cronus Reborn Actually you can. Ppl do it all the time. And it isn't about being butthurt. It's about the lack of respect. Treating an adult woman like she's property is about as disrespectful as it gets!

      Cronus Reborn It's not being a bitch. It's called having self-respect & not letting anyone (including your parents) treat you like shit!
      The word disown means to "refuse to acknowledge or maintain any connection with". So leaving your parents, not having any connection w/ them, & not acknowledging their existence is the very definition of disowning. And not everyone who disowns their parents ends up on the street.

    • @cronusreborn9941

      Tonee Rhian Rose And again you are wrong.
      Disowning only has one meaning and that is cutting off all contact, financial support and inheritance rights to a relative you were providing it to.
      Unless you for whatever reason were providing financial support to your parents you can't disown them. You can just run away like a bitch.

    First of all, the father says only nice things about his daughter. Secondly, "unworthy, though becoming less so daily" has absolutely nothing to do with his daughter's virginity. The father is saying that a man fit for his daughter sees himself as unworthy of her but willing to become worthy of her day by day, No wonder the daughter was not upset. I like Ana's quote though "I am not going to read her reaction because I don't really care."

    • @ChrisJaesun
      @ChrisJaesun 8 лет назад +1

      +Orthodox what matters here is barely what was said, and mostly how it was said. I think we can all agree this is inappropriate for an advertisement. I suppose it is possible (I want to side on likely, but I really don't know much of the context) that this was all a prank though.

    • @orthodox9191
      @orthodox9191 8 лет назад +1

      +TheFloradragon What he said though was what these "journalists" focused on. Having said that, I don't think we can all agree that this is inappropriate for an advertisement. What is wrong with putting a singles ad in the paper? Many people have met and got married in this way. I think this is a heart-warming story of a dad who obviously thinks the world of his daughter. The daughter is very likely a shy person who doesn't date very often, and he wanted to give her a nudge into the dating world. Granted, putting the ad in the jobs section was not the right place for it, but who says this father knows that there are actually dating sites out there. He probably heard people meeting online and through ads and went for it. This is something a friend would do for a friend in a similar situation and nobody would think anything less of it. Its the sick mind of the "journalists" in this piece that have turned this into something perverted. The bottom line is this, TYT do not respect people who value virginity and this is the crux of the matter. If this was a negative story, the only person whose voice should have been heard was the daughter's voice. But I point out again, it's this voice that TYT did not want to hear and share. Who really disrespected this young lady in the end?

  • @vayman666

  • @carrolladdington4517
    @carrolladdington4517 8 лет назад +3

    Ok, let me start off by saying this father was horrible for doing this. But I am nigh positive the part you got most pissed off about where he was saying "You:Unworthy, but getting more so every day" was him saying that whoever you are, you're not worthy of my daughter, but you'd better be the sort of man who's becoming a better man every day to bring yourself up to her level. I'm nigh positive this had nothing to do with her "declining property value". Come on, it's already horrible, no need to go out of your way to put even more malicious intent than was most likely there.

  • @jeremiahjohnson3398
    @jeremiahjohnson3398 8 лет назад +4

    Ok, I'm pretty sure the "unworthy, but becoming less so daily" line was meant to imply that the guys out there were unworthy, but becoming more worthy through self-improvement. Maybe I'm just an optimist, but that's how I read it. Still disgusting, but I don't feel like that's what the dad meant. It was more of a hopeful message that any applicant would be dedicated to someday becoming worthy.

      Yeah they said the daughter talked to her dad about it and shrugged it off.
      I used to think TYT was more level headed than Fox but then I saw them make video titles that represented click bait more than a real accusation. They do it at least once a week where they can't a phrase or sentence and blow it as far out of proportion as possible. Also, they tend to drill the same points over and over. I've actually started to only watch 50% of the videos and only the first 1-2 minutes of them in order to get the ideal content and disregard the rest.

    • @MaMastoast
      @MaMastoast 8 лет назад +1

      Curtis Smale Oh, funny, probably missed it because I also don't always it through 100% of the video. There's no doubt you'll often get the point within the first 2-5 mins of a 10 min TYT video.
      The main reason I watch it, is because I think American politics can end up having a large influence on the world, so even though I'm not american, that's pretty relevant to me ^^.
      That said, I think it's important to watch people you don't agree with 100% of the time. I also watch people who have a more right wing slant to their reporting, even though I'm personally very much a lefty.

    I know TYT would never mention it (although Wes alluded to it a few weeks ago), but a woman's value as a partner decreases over time, and a man's value as a partner increases over time (before both sexes reach senile age).
    This is partly due to biological conditions programmed into our cells and brains though evolution such as women becoming infertile at a certain age and losing her feminine looks as she ages, as well as men typically becoming stronger and more capable of providing resources for the women than a younger male can while retaining/enhancing their masculine looks over time (before becoming old men). It's also partly due to society, girls don't like guys who are financially under them, and there is societal pressure for men to find young attractive women but not vice versa (no pressure for older women to find young men).
    That's just the way things are, no matter how bitter or cruel it might seem to some of you.

    • @wisebeardman7197
      @wisebeardman7197 8 лет назад

      +Sebastian Rhodes Wait what? Men do not get stronger with age. Are you talking about the physical aspect or visual aspect because most men over 40 have a decreased libido and some even find it hard to get an erection, if you're going to talk in generalities. Now if you're talking about separate cases of men, some probably seem like they're more capable when they're older, but some women do too. I'm referring to sex. A lot of women over the age of 40 tend to have an increased sex dive where men have a decreased sex drive. All people are different, so it's hard to just generalize in this way because some men are different and same goes for women. Lets just say that you're kind of wrong, it's just the way you're putting it i suppose.

    • @sebastianrhodes8252
      @sebastianrhodes8252 8 лет назад

      Wise Beard Man I phrased it wrongly. I meant visual aspect BEFORE senile age. Women LOOK like better partners visually from a man's point of view the younger they are. Men LOOK like better partners visually from a woman's point of view the older they (again, before senile age).

    • @sebastianrhodes8252
      @sebastianrhodes8252 8 лет назад

      ***** I respect that, but tell me how I am wrong rather than just pull out the misogyny card. So it's now anti-women for someone to say that women find older men (before senile age) to be more attractive and that men find younger women (after legal age/puberty) to be more attractive? Because that is what I meant. Maybe you are reading something into the comment that is not there. (I should've added VISUAL value not overall value as a partner.)

      Violet Tippet In general 20-something year old guys are not valued very much in our society because they are usually unexperienced, still immature in many ways, and don't have a stable financial/general situation. Women of the same age are usually seen as more attractive by men of all ages. I know it's a sexualization of women based on just their appearance, but that's the way our shallow greedy society behaves unfortunately.

    Too much fuss over not much. He was not advertising her for sale. He was putting up a lonelyhearts ad in the wrong section without permission (which is obviously ewh and overstepping and infantilising, and certainly counter-productive, because who wants a controlling father-in-law) . The bit about the man being unworthy, well, yeah, most guys are unworthy of most young women, and yes they should not just be trying to become better people, but it is unsurprising that a prospective father-in-law would want a suitor to be actually making progress in becoming a better person. That has nothing to do with her age. That is reading into the text assumptions based on Cenk and Ana's stereotyping of "religions", not the father's actual attitudes (which are not specifically known).

    I saw it in a completely different way and to be honest, I think this was a projection of Anna's perception of women being devalued over time. I thought it was just the father looking for a suiter who was looking for a man that was trying to better himself. You know? A Christian thing, where everyone is trying to better themselves. I think it's ridiculous for a father to put down her daughter for "aging" and trying to find a suiter for his daughter. I think they got it all wrong.

    If he didn't mention the virginity there would be no outrage about this ad, well there shouldn't be. I think the idea that this father thinks of his daughter as chattel is hyperbolic. A mother could write this exact ad for their son and no one would call it sexist and say he is property. The real problem is the dad getting too involved in his daughters love life but many parents are too involved.

      IAmDeath While I share your disdain for religious idiots and their hypocrisy, I have known many fundamentalist people who have been effectively brainwashed into doing things that go against the better part of human nature. I was a Christian for the first 25 years of my life, and grew up with lots of scared, suppressed and sheltered individuals. Many children are indoctrinated at such a young age and are instilled with so much fear that they do in fact strictly follow many restrictive rules. Of course, many of them do give in to perfectly normal human impulses (myself being one), but there are some who do not.
      Of course, you're probably statistically correct, but I thought I'd share my opinion on the matter. I probably shouldn't have begun with "seriously?", because that does give off an aire of condescension and hostility, and for that, I apologize.

    What I loved about it was Ana's reaction, though. I could honestly watch her getting enraged all day. It's impressive and graceful. First of all I never said all. Only that it was likely.
      Second; since when was wanting sex or just to fool around "weak"?
      Kids experiment. At least most do. & yes that is men & women. Does that mean I think little of men also?
      Also, pure? You're religious aren't you?
      Never heard anyone use that phrase who isn't.
      Lastly; not being a virgin doesn't mean you sleep around with whatever moves like a wild animal.
      There is a difference between a non-virgin & a slut you know? & again, yes, both men & women.
      Religion doesn't rule our society like it used to.
      Despite people like the guy in this video sadly existing.
      Most people grow up without being taught repression & that sex is a dirty thing only to be done once the metaphorical lock & chain is around your finger.
      I guess what? People who don't practice repression tend to have a healthier outlook on sex.

    • @FaolanHart
      @FaolanHart 8 лет назад

      *****
      Not really, I just think my outlook is better than yours.
      You know there are a bunch of men who make connections with people they sleep with? Myself included in that.
      But people like that can still be the kind of people who want to know if they are compatible with the person they are with before tying the knot.
      & who on earth told you that you aren't "designed" to sleep with multiple people?
      & what do you mean by multiple?
      You seem to think that someone has either slept with nobody or they are constantly looking for sex.
      & you do know that you can fall for more than one person & form connections with them in life.....& no I don't mean at the same time.
      Part of life is loving & losing. One day you settle down with that one person that means more than the others in your past.
      By that time you'll have experience to know what you like & don't like.
      Marriage has nothing to do with a "stable" family unit. *points to devoice rates*
      I'm one of the people who see it more as a legal thing than anything else.
      Plenty of people stay together for years & even have kids without getting married.
      Are they not "stable" without the legal document of marriage?
      & if you think you need to get married to someone for them to stay around then obviously the relationship isn't doing well.
      lol far left liberal. On this same channel I've been called a conservative for pointing TYT out on their regressive left bullshit.
      I lean more left than anything yeah
      Ok so a few things..
      Humans are animals, you do know that right?
      Again not being a virgin is not the same as sleeping around like a "wild animal".
      One can have a healthy sexual life without fucking everything that moves.
      It's about being responsible, in moderation.
      Not locking yourself in a cage & not becoming a living sex toy.
      Also any responsible person will carry around contraceptives.
      You're not against masturbation also are you?
      & for my final point.
      You want to know what a culture ruled by religious rules looks like?
      Look at any Islamic one. That is where your old rules one needs to follow to "reach their full potential" gets you.

    • @FaolanHart

      Lol I'll skip over the obvious religious person talking about basic intelligence joke.
      AGAIN I say, not being a virgin doesn't mean you sleep with everything that moves. What do you even mean by loads? Any before marriage?
      Is English your second language? Because you seem to be misunderstanding what I am saying. Not being married does not = single parents....where the hell did you even get that from?
      Non-married couples raise kids all the time.
      & those kids turn out just the same as kids raised by married couples.
      Marriage isn't a requirement for a stable family. It's a legal document.
      "Most violent criminals are those from broken homes"
      You do know that these people can be married? That "broken homes" are not restricted to couples that are not married?
      Also sleeping around while in a relationship is completely different from sleeping with people before settling down....
      I have no idea where you are even getting these arguing points. None of this so far addresses anything I've said.
      Again, we are animals. & guess what, I haven't had sex in a few years. The difference is I'm not judging people who sleep with people before they get married as "impure".
      LOL devoice is so high because they marry people they shouldn't have.
      A couple that won't last won't suddenly start to last after getting married. Weather or not you work with your partner & are a good couple has absolutely nothing with marriage.
      That is just your religions dogma talking.
      Citation needed. I'd love to know where you are getting your biology lessons.
      Also STD's wouldn't be as big as a problem with contraceptives. Another thing your religion forbids. Look at places that ban the use at contraceptives & then look at the STD issues in those places.
      On the contrary. You're religion is obsessed with sex. With all the ways it's wrong, especially for woman.
      I won't sleep with anyone I don't fall far first. I'm just a realist in that I don't expect nor think people should practice repression. Nor do I think marriage is so important.
      The bond you have with your partner comes first. No ring or legal document is more important than that.
      Nor is such a thing going to keep a family together if it doesn't work.
      & yes I have been in love & I didn't instantly jump in bed with them. Believe it or not I have actually turned-down advances because I was not ready.
      Remember that all I said to start this whole thing was that at her age she probably isn't a virgin.
      You seem to believe that not being a virgin means you sleep with everyone you meet right away & that people who have sex before marriage think that sex is more important than anything else.
      That people don't even use contraceptives.
      & that just isn't true. Those are your preconceptions. Nothing more.
      I noticed you didn't answer my masturbation question either.
      Is masturbation ok? Or is that just another thing that makes someone "impure"
      Honestly I feel sorry for you. I'm not being condescending when I say that either.
      I presume you were raised in a sheltered religious environment that didn't educate you at all on these matters. Or just fed you a bunch of lies to keep you in your place.
      I'm not a sex-crazed fool. I haven't had sex in years & will only sleep with people I fall for, just find attractive.
      Just because I'm an advocate for a healthy sex life doesn't mean I'm in favour of sleeping with everyone you can & without contraceptives.
      Try & let go of your religious mind-washing.
      I'm not saying everyone should have sex all the time. Only that most people these days have a healthy understanding of sex.
      Needing to get married before having sex & the idea of impurity are age-old religious ideas designed to keep women in their place.

      Honestly it's probably better at this point if people don't have kids. Waaayy too many people on the planet right now. It's causing problems.
      I'd honestly like to see that "most thugs are born into one parent households" statistic. My mother raised me on her own. She was married but ended up getting devoiced because of a cheating husband.
      There is that "strong family unit" from marriage for you.
      Again humans are animals, though I am not the one suggesting we should live like wild animals. That's just what you seem to think because you seem to be mentally unable to see the difference between a non-virgin & a slut. Jesus religious brain-washing is powerful shit.
      Man I wish my female friends could way in on this. Believe it or not.....some of them have had sex....before marriage......& nothing bad has happened! 0_0 fucking mind-blowing!
      Look up contraceptives.
      They are these magical things that allow you to have sex WITHOUT spreading STDs or getting pregnant!

      Women can be sexist too, y'know. Regardless of the daughter's feelings, advertising her as if she were property to be given away to a man IS sexist.

    "Though becoming less so daily" is most likely a reference to the fact that the reader is reading a Christian publication. Christians see themselves as being on a continuing journey to become better people, and the father probably meant that by being a Christian, the reader is becoming less unworthy.
    You came at this with too much of an antitheistic angle. You're trying to find a reason to be upset because of your biases against Christians (which American Baptists do nothing to lessen).

      +RapeCaek I took it as the dad talking up his daughter like in the rest of the ad, saying she is very valuable, and no guy can match her worth but the lucky one should keep working on himself to be less unworthy for her every day that passes.
      Maybe they said it from a anti theistic stance, but no matter what, anyone with a brain sees that whole ad is all positive and it takes a very weird thought jump to make it into an insult! Shows some very weird brain gymnastics on TYT's side.

    "Becoming less so daily" is a Bible-thing as well. He's probably trying to say as a Christian, you get less evil daily with Jesus or some BS to fish for Christian men who are "unworthy" of his daughter. still gross.

    Would you stop with the 2nd class citizen bullshit? In some ways men are privileged, in other ways women are privileged, especially when it really counts. This is what we've come to in Western feminism; policing random individuals over their boring, banal sexism. Look how outraged Anna is over this utterly mundane sexism.

      +HEΛRTS OF SPΛCE I think there are quite a lot of people who interpret it the other way. Yes, the Dad was wrong to do this, but that particular part of it can easily be read in a less offensive way. I don't normally give Christians much credit, but I think it discredits our side to smear them beyond reason.

      probotvideo I appreciate your words, and I don't want to argue with anyone about interpretation. I didn't feel as though I was being harsh or attempting to "smear" anyone. I simply implied that his own suggestion may have been reasonably surmised.

    The part about the purchaser er, I mean, suitor being unworthy is _not_ about his daughter being too old. Unworthiness is standard Christian jargon, especially among conservative Christians. According to St. Paul, *nobody* is worthy, and Christians responding to the ad will understand it in that context. (That's probably why others have not mentioned this.)
    Of course, Cenk would probably miss this context entirely, since he didn't grow up with it, but I'm wondering what they told Ana in church (Orthodox, I presume) that she didn't pick up on it.

    It sounds to me like the ad was just a gag. The dad was trying to be funny about his daughter still being single, and she knew that, which is why she didn't mind it. And I'm willing to bet that Ana didn't read the daughter's response for us because it shows that she knew it was just a joke. And how could Cenk and Ana get all outraged for the camera if they revealed to us that the ad wasn't serious?

  • @eduardocorrochio208
    @eduardocorrochio208 8 лет назад +3

    LOL!!! TYT, I don't think "unworthy, though becoming less so daily" means what you think it means. It's not about her!! It's about YOU not being worthy until you prove you are worthy.
    What fucked up thoughts must you have in your head to think he was talking about her in that way?... Get some help.

    • @Mj-pf6by
      @Mj-pf6by 8 лет назад

      "Becoming less so daily" doesn't imply anything about proving yourself so much so as it implies the value of the prospective guy being static (unworthy) relative to the girls value depreciating. Like "I'll consider marrying him if I'm not married by 40" AKA when I've run out of all options, suddenly he seems like a legitimate choice, although he wasn't worthy before.

    • @eduardocorrochio208
      @eduardocorrochio208 8 лет назад

      +Mj123 Seems as though the fathers comment has been taken in 2 ways:
      1) my daughter is getting old so if she doesn't pull her thumb out, eventually anyone can have a go.Or
      2) My daughter is a 26 y/o virgin but she's AWESOME at this, this, this, and this and YOU are unworthy of her until I/She/We, in time, get to know you better.
      I guess we'll have to ask the dad which he meant.

  • @EdShear_em

    I don't see the point. Humans like to think of other humans as property. It makes it easier. Whenever someone writes their C.V. they treat themselves as property, and try to advertise themselves to whoever needs the specific qualities of said property. The people looking to hire you based on your C.V. aren't interested in your beliefs, your practices, your morals, your humanity etc.
    All they care about is how hard you can work for them. And no one bats an eye when this happens. But then a dad gives a big clue to the fact that he thinks of his daughter as property, and people go wild. Why?
