A big thanks to you kev for showing me how to do manual entries. I've seen many RUclips videos most over complicated I couldn't understand . But your explanation I got it straight away fantastic cheers mate.
After all the stuff ive done regarding getting my license, nothing has covered on how to use a tacho machine. Thankfully, we have youtube and people like yourself. Thank you.
Yes its to bad
Very well explained. Thank you.
I start back driving today after around 6 months off. So needed a recap of this.. 👍🏻
Thanks Kev!
Doing my own truckers license course and are through two of the three exams. I figure I'd do a bit of pre-work on how Tachographs work, just to get ahead of how this all works.
So far it seems fairly easy as long as you know what you're doing.
Thanks once again, wish you many safe trips! 🚛💪🏻
I'm doing the same! Booked my Theory Test for HGVs. Being a bit big-headed, thought it would be easy as I have been driving a car for 20 years. However when I realised the questions aren't just about driving, but about lorry stuff as well. Now I'm doing a bit of panic research, hoping I don't fail and waste £25 pound! As can not cancel the test 3 days before without losing money!
Update: got through my theoretical exams, will start practical in March! 💪🏻🚛🚚🚛🚚🚛
Thanks for this video, I've had my class 1 license for a year but was never shown how to do this during my driver training with the school same with load securing other than the quick 5 minute test for my CPC. Only ever got a brief show how to use a tacho 8 odd months ago during work experience. Been finding it hard to actually get a job because of my lack of experience, companies don't want to touch me because of insurance costs and I'm too big of a risk to them and agencies just expect me to go and do work knowing everything without proper training or mentoring. Thanks again though for getting straight to the point with it all and showing us newbies.
New pass, recently started applying... Have to say, aside from very basic bits and bobs... The tacho stuff baffles me. Barely get any tuition on this, guess or hope watching videos and time will be friendly on this for me.
Ok this actually made sense! I started today and had no idea. I am pretty sure I’ll have infringements with my manual entries. Driving and breaks I was spot on with. I didn’t even know how I got past all the manual entry stuff!
The first few times are mental !!! Trying to get everything correct as well as the actual driving ect 🤮🤦🏽♂️
@@TRUCKERKEV exactly!! Focusing on not going through buildings or wiping cars and traffic lights out as well as that little b*****d machine 😂 100% using this video to set up manual in the morning though, if the company doesn’t have Tacho roll would you refuse to drive the wagon?
@@JamesBrooks15 yes mate your liable if you get checked and you don’t have least 2 and can’t produce at least a whole week of hrs, I usually have 2 rolls spare in my bags that I never touch for emergencies 👌🏻
Not doing a manual entry is not an infringement.
Hi Kev, I’m a professional musician as my main income at weekends, I did my CPC in full in 1 week last year, I’ve got a digi tacho card and I’m starting a part time driving job next week, only 2 days per week driving a 7.5 tonne (8 to 10 drops a day) crapping myself about using a tacho 😂 not driven 7.5 tonne since 2011, I’m told the job is no more than 10 hours per day starting around 7am when I arrive on site - think your video will save my life
Also… don’t all jump on me! 🤣 I’m learning 😝 when I get to each delivery, I have to put the tacho on OTHER WORK while unloading? and after 4.5 hours of ONLY driving, I must have 45 minutes break ?
It’s the best way to gain experience and an understanding of how things work, especially drivers hours and working time directive you’ll do great mate, you’ll make a few mistakes at first, but it’s an important part of the process. Glad it helped buddy
@@WayneMusicianUK it should do it by its self, but it doesn’t make sure you automatically switch to other work so you don’t run out of time in hours. Also if someone else is offloading you by all means switch into break if there is an opportunity for you to take one, it’s a good way of constantly resetting your hours depending on how long of a break you take
@@TRUCKERKEV from what I’m told about my potential new job next week, I’ve got a tail lift and pallet truck, so I’ll be unloading myself and dumping the odd pallet or two into a warehouse, now I’m really confused as not only have to have a break after 4.5 hours total driving, i forgot about WTD 😞 I just don’t get it 😂 FFS
Love it straight to the point .
Passed my class 1
Congratulations!!! On to the big boys 👊🏾
Thanks for covering that.your videos are helping massively with going through the steps on getting my license. Keep up the good work!
Fantastic mate thanks I'm just starting my hgv carrier Last week you made so straight forward and simple and I have confidence now thanks to you
Thank you mate that’s all I’m trying to achieve, I’m glad it’s helped a few people!!! And good luck !!!
One of the most important parts of driving and learning but sod all whilst taught gaining your licence.
Thanks for taking the time to upload 👍
100% passed my test last Tues and all this cpc mod 2 n 4 rubbish and u get zero training with the tacho
Yep, when i mentioned it to my instructor, his reply was, "plenty of vids on youtube" Hence, why i am here.
Fantastic informative video. Im only used to the old paper tachos years ago. I do have a digicard but my CPC ran out before I could use it, and ended up doing something a bit different for a while until I could decide what to do. Probably go back in the industry, I miss the bigger vehicles. Cheers for uploading this.
I have got to get my head round this but I admit it's driving me crazy but tomorrow I will have a go . Great video thanks.
Thanks buddy !!! Hopefully it helped and don’t worry mate first few times everyone fuked it up ect !! I did anyways 😂😂🤷🏽♂️
@@TRUCKERKEV did manual entry this morning fantastic thanks. I understand what you were saying all the other videos I found confusing. Thanks .
I'm an American driver, we have what's called an ELD, it's a tablet that's hardwired into the truck and usually bolted to the dash, it's quite interesting to see how other countries do things in regards to hours regulations.
Great help but I have a conundrum - I own a tacho card that has never been used for last 3 years now I’m about start class1 driving just passed what should I do? As I obvs have not used it before? Any help would be greatly received
It doesn’t matter just stick it in and get going
@@TRUCKERKEV ok thanks Kev someone told me to hit the ? Button but unsure as to what this does
Hi Kev,
Nice straightforward video, thanks. Just a note: VOSA ceased to be in 2014. It has been DVSA since then. Regards
Hi Kev hope your well my transport manager instructed me to drive without my tacho and put out of scope it's illegal doing a school run
Hi Kev. I have my theory cpc coming up and wondered what control on the digital Tachograph would allow the driver to scroll through the main menu?
They can sometimes be a pain but for the most part of you press the “ok” button enough times it will get you to the main menu and then use arrows up and down to navigate through
Can you answer this. Shift start at 5am, driving during day less than 4hrs, took first brake at 8 am. Instead if 15 minutes brake had to stay for 1hr on brake till 9am. Shift finishes at 4pm. How much second brake needed 15 minutes or 30 minutes?
From 9 am to 4 pm that’s a seven hour difference whether it was working or driving you should’ve taken at least a 45 minute break you would’ve taken 45 minutes. If you got anywhere near the 4 1/2 hour mark I’m driving all the six hour mark of working/driving
@@TRUCKERKEVwill try to clarify. First about driving. During day shift (5am-4pm) driving time is only 4hr, so no needed brake from driving.
Now brake from other works. As start at 5am first brake needed only if working more than 6hrs, mean over 11am, so needed atleast 15 minutes before 11am, then additional 15 minutes before reach 9th hrs, mean before 2pm.
As shift finishes at 4pm, total working time is over 9hrs, so need total 45min of brake, mean second brake need 30min.
Now as been told at 8 am i took first brake fir full 1hr, mean been taken full 45 min brake and brake time got reseted.
So from 9am till 4 pm, is still same day. But as 7hrs to work, to need to take 15 minutes of brake to cover next 6 hrs with 1 hr of work after that? Or need 30min brake as workin more than 6hrs?
Nice one did a CPC course today and found out I should be doing manuals wow, do I have to include my days off I’m goner follow you thanks kev 👍
After you're done for the day do you just put it on rest and take the card out? And do you leave it in the truck while you are doing other work after driving or take it out and then just put in manually the work the next time you start your day?
Overall glad to see it's not too difficult, got my license etc from the army and starting work tomorrow, this is one of the things I had close to no idea how to use as we didn't use tacho in the army.
So basically, you have to account for every minute of every day?
So if you were on holiday for a week, you'd have insert that as a rest period instead of just saying you started at a certain time on that day?
New class 1 driver ...done class 2 previously but wasn't confident on taco manual entries, slit of people aren't! Helpful video though 👌
*alot not slit
Great video. A must watch before you use a card for the first time.
Tks for clear detailed video, my first time using this VDO tacho & the "driving without card" screen threw me.
Thanks for this! Really cleared up some of my confusion
Thanks Kev, I'm a new pass that hasn't been shown by anyone how to use my Digitack properly!
It’s always something that gets missed mate !! Thankfully looks like this vid is helping clear things up !! Glad it helped !!
Hello mate, passed my class 2 yesterday. Do I have to apply for tachograph card or will it be sent with driving licence?
When you do your CPC and fill out all forms and pass you will be sent out a driver qualification card and your tacho card
New driver here, forgive me if this a dumb question. I’ve just received my DQC card through the post… is that what I insert into the tacho machine? Or do I also need a tacho card aswell as this? I’ve no idea and Google doesn’t help 😂🤷🏻♂️
You should have your driving licence , CPC card and a tacho card to drive class 2&1 vehicles
Hi thanks f for the video.
On my weeks work I may drive one day but not the next day so on the day I don’t drive does my manual entry for the day I don’t drive have to have my tea breaks included? Or do I just put that I worked on the day I did not drive. I’m a marquee erector so some days I’m cleaning in the yard.
Thanks mate and hope it’s helped also !!! Whatever your getting paid for is work mate so just factor that in unless your on salary maybe consider saving your hrs and being a little less rigid 😳😂
@TRUCKER KEV
Only rigid in the morning at my age 🤣
So I take its just classed as other work when in the yard cleaning?
Thanks Kev
Thank yu very much, it's been a nightmare but this explanation is fantastic
Thanks mate,i messed up big time, started driving hgv last week
First job and rather than putting it on break after 4.5hr driving,i forgot to do it and it went on to other work.
And recorded zero break
So frustrated and scared incase vosa pulls me over
Yeah, that was that me and a while back however, you can print out the mistake and write on the back the date, reason for the mistake and keep it for the next 28 days in case you get pulled over. They will accept also point to know I’ve ever been pulled over in years. 😂
@TRUCKERKEV mate, trust me, i have never been this scared in my life 😢
😆
I noticed you didn’t put in an entry from the time you withdrew the card to the time you finished that day . Ie withdrew card at 17:50 but clocked out at 18:00 . Surely that 10 minutes needs to be accounted for ?
My taco machine keeps telling me that need to take immediate break when I’ve only drove for Sat an hour or so and it’s doing it quite frequently I just wondered if you could help me thank you
u can drive 14 hours a day before your break??i thought it was 9-10
So when ye stop for a minute let's say to fly in to petrol station to use the toilet do you have to do anything with the taco
Do you do manual entry at 17.30 to say you finished at 18.00 or do you have to do that the following work day?
If your tacho is set to local time during BST. When your doing your manual entry will you be subtracting your hour or will the tacho do this for you?
Thank you for this valuable information.
Hope it helped bud !!
Hi Kev. Do you not need to manual entry start work at 7 and not 7:21?
Great video and very well explained. Thanks mate.
I just bought Iveco van with taco in it but it's been downgraded to 3,5 t and I don't need it anymore. Can I use the van without the card? I think the taco is interfering with my driving and I need some advice please?
Late reply but you might be able to set it to "out of scope" mode. Example is 3.5t van with tow bar. Without trailer tacho not needed so Out of Scope. Double check though. I believe this is a feature used where vehicle is normally 3.5t but possibility of towing heavy trailer where extra weight needs tacho (so I was told on CPC course).
When I stop my new truck it defaults to break rather than other work, can I change the default settings so I don't have to manually change it to other work every time I stop ??
Hi Kev, how do I change the activity on my tacho to OUT, as where I work we work quite a bit on private land.
Hi mate on most of them you have to go onto the menu and scroll through options till you see “OUT”
@@TRUCKERKEV Thank you.
Hi Kevin be careful when publishing how to videos on digital tachos you give correct information. When using the latest Gen 2 Tachos, daily rest is denoted by the symbol’?’, not the bed symbol. That’s the previous old tachos, not the latest. Just a heads up, it’s good you’re trying to get drivers to do the manual entries.
Where do you plug the Digimon plus direct into the device, is it in the paper roll drawer?
Thank you. Very helpful.
I must have watched 4 different tacho videos I still haven't got a clue, I've got my module 3 in 4 weeks then got module 4 after that,
I was the same when I first started mate message me on Instagram if you want any support 👍🏾
@@TRUCKERKEV cheers bud
Is a print out needed everyday.
Not really but it helps you understand through the week where your at high hrs
Do you have to do a Manual entry every morning to say you've been on rest and how do i show this or can you just put it on bed before ejecting your card
It will automatically think you’ve been resting since the time you took your card out, Manual entries just allow you to make things a little bit more accurate if you want them to be
I don't I just go to no then go through the rest then hammers for 15 to cover checks then drive has not give me infringement
Cheers chaps
Hi Kev, apparently changes to the legislation and DVSA are enforcing rules to explain everything on the tacho. I'm a part time driver like yourself but it seems that logging rest since my last driving job is no longer sufficient and DVSA are wanting detail for your last 28 days? Absolute bastard nightmare for newbie drivers. My other job is a non driving job so I'm led to believe that it's a different WTD?? I just ensure I don't exceed the 60hrs week worked including my driving. How are you logging your non driving days???
Simple is good! 👍
Thanks for watching… simple is what I was aiming for 😁
6 month off, back Monday driving 7.5t... thanks for the refresher mate ✊
Im new to trucks iam just wondering what happens if my tacho doesnt change to driving as i start driving is that an infringement?
It should change your name it’s own but if it doesn’t it will just continue to record what it’s been set as and if you don’t change it to break then it will record infringements as you need breaks throughout your shift
How do you check how many hours you’ve given so far in a week to see what hours you’ve got less for a weekend?
You can go into any transport office and ask them to show you your week or print your hrs but you can also print your daily hrs too just go back to the date of the beginning of the week and print each 24hr period X 7 🤮😂
Thanks for a good video mate 😊
What about if you drive a van 3 days and a truck twice a week??
does the van have tacho?
If I’m waiting to go on a bay to get loaded or unloaded what do I put the tacho on
Thanks big help
How to take out card from machine after job done?
PLEASE HELP if you are on a rest period and go into mcdonalds..do you lock the truck and leave the card in the tacho system on the rest period.or do you take the card with you and enter it manually when you comeback to the truck?
Dont tuch the card till you finish job
@@johnjibo7550 thanks mate..passed the class 1 last week..getting a job is another story.everyone wants experience.so am going to apply to agencies and see how that goes.i will do anything and work for peanuts.just to get some experience
@@mattyburrows9059 no problem mate, good luck with your job search 💪🏻
You mentioned that for example you got back to yard at say 5.30 pm….
Jumped out , done your bits and bobs and clocked out of office at 6 on
That 30 mins of other work … when do you add this via manual entry … next working day ????
Cheers
Great content btw
Yes mate next day you would out that down manually.
@@TRUCKERKEV diamond geezer
Could please tell me the best theory app for lorry
What's happens if I made mistake on manual entry? 😮😢
Do most Tacho card machines work the same? Which one was the most difficult for you to use?
and what if we skip manual entry press NO and do it automatic ??
Something that's unclear to me and cannot find a reasonable explanation for so far; if your stuck in a dead stand-still (absolutely no movement) traff jam for a prolonged period of time, let's say 30min would that be 30 min driving time, Other Work or POA??
Because you’re not parked, you have to maintain control of that vehicle during that period of time, therefore it would still be classed as driving
I asked my instructor the exact same question. His reply was, if the traffic is at a complete dead stop, road closed ahead or something, people out thier cars having a kick about. You could set it to break, engine turned off, put your feet up, pull your phone out, and chill out.
Your still incharge of the veichle around other road users possible moving at a fee yards a minute. So unless parked, your still officially working. But its once of them grey areas that could be argued 🧐 Blame the EU 😂
Legend.
I am a new driver and I'm having problems. If someone can assist I'd be very grateful.
So I done a shift and the shift was 4hrs and 20 mins. I've now taken my card out and not worked for the next 9 full 24 hour days.
Ive gone to a new shift more than a week later and when I've put in my tacho card it tells me I've already done 4hrs and 20 mins and had a 15 min break on my previous shift so now it tells me after 10 mins of driving I have to take a 30 min break! Keeping in mind I've had 9 full 24hr days off.
I'm so confused and I don't know if I'm doing something wrong. This has happened to me on 2 occasions where I've had atleast 3 days in between shifts but it does not reset.
Someome please help.
Okay so I've watched your video and Isit because I do a manual entry and accidently say that I wasn't resting since my last shift?
I Have Apply My First techo graph Card And Its Been 9 Days I haven’t Received my techo card By post Dvla Send Me an Message Of Dispatch But I didn’t got My First Techo graph card please Tell me what is happened.?
Accidentally ejected driver card , driving without card for 5 mins, what do I do ,? Thankyou
Do a print off and then manually log your day/breaks by pen on the back of the print out.. mistakes happen and as long as you're not hiding anything and try to rectify it then what more can you do..
Thanks m8 👍
My Lorry where i work when the ignition turns off goes into rest and this was set by the tacho master as a requests from the transport managers and it annoys me
Ohh really ??? So you have to idle and waste fuel while being loaded and offloaded ?
Doesn’t sound very practical 🤔🤷🏽♂️
@@TRUCKERKEV yeah or have to press it everything you stop to put it on other work the print out is so long 🤣 it's stupid we asked for it to be changed we were told to leave the engine running 😂
you supposed to have 2 spare rolls and one in the tacho vosa rules
Correct !!
You need 2 spares at all times so carry 3 👍
I think you made a mistake in this video. You said you were doing other work from 7am and that you would add this manually, but after you add your rest until 0659 you then input other work from 0721 and not 0700.
My tacho goes in a soon as I get in yard and taken out as I leave
what sav nat app do you use for hgvs
I use Road Lords. Set your vehicle height, weight, width, length and other useful things.
@@Average-man12 thank you very much. And is it a free app or paid
In this day and age there is no reasonable reason why tachos are so complicated to use and yes I'm a vocational driver and used them for many years but they are still antiquated even though they're now digital.
I think the point behind it being complicated, is to keep you vigilant to VOSA/DVSA standards. Not to defend it being complicated though, as I'm newly qualified and I'm still bricking it wrapping my head around this. 😂
driving without card shown mmm ?
Good👍🏻one
Put in my card after 3 days off and said 5 hours driving .
Couldn't shift it .
After 2 hours driving ...said 6 hrs 38 mins driving although printout was correct .
Why
Can you please slow down and explain it down
problem i'm having is not only lack of experience but being 60 yrs old, talk about a handiv=cap
1:47 you spelt break incorrectly
How do, we put it, to break
Just press the driver 1 button
These Tacho cards system are ridiculous making manual entries , so confusion , I don't know why europe doesn't use same tacho laws as usa and canada and there electronic digital system easier to use easier to install and cheaper cost ,as its just like a gps system sitting on your dash or beside your dash . and driving hours etc easier to learn and understand
