Hope this video helps anyone who is struggling or would just like general knowledge on how to couple and uncouple a trailer and tractor unit for their part A test.
OMG, this guy is lightyears in front of the RSM Chelmsford, where I began my license (I have finished with another school). No mumbling, no coffee in hands, no phone in hands. This is how I imagined a trainer at that time.
I'm just starting my journey toward becoming an HGV driver, and this is great. It's helpful to see what I'll be trained to do, and what I need to do to pass. Thanks so much.
If you were my teacher. Wouldn't be able to miss your lesson. You on point. And you make it enjoyable. You make it look easy . And make it look like it can be done
it’s an amazing video that will help you to pass without stress, thanks dave for the explanation the way you teaching is professional anyone sees this video can do it with any lessons, well done and wish you the best, see u soon ✌🏽
All very good when i was taught many years ago red airline came of first then the yellow and when pulling out from trailer pull forward of pin stop and dump the air from rear axle pull out and re inflate backing under trailer do the opposite back up stop close get out check height get back in drop rear of unit back half under inflate suspension and lift trailer clear of ground back under engaging fifth wheel tug forward twice
Thanks for this great demonstration! I followed it to the letter and I passed with flying carpets. Although, the examiner did say that there wasn’t a need for me to shout at her.😅
A couple of things that I thought you should have checked are, the reversing lights on the trailer when you checked the brake lights. Also the height of the trailer matched the height sign in the cab 👍
Good stuff. I passed my class 1 back in 2009 and I've mostly been driving vans since then with the occasional 7.5t and 18t run. I've applied for an artic job within my company which means passing an internal assessment before they'll let loose on my own. My company (Royal Mail) runs single and double-deck trailers so I'll have to remember to take note of the ride height of the trailer and adjust the height indicator in the cab to match. Thanks for the video!
Hey, I enjoyed it as much as you did but I haven't heard once. You mentioned about suspension😢😢😢which was a very vey important step for the training part. BLACKS, break, Legs, Air, Clip, Kingpin and ; and Suspension. God bless you.
We are driving log shuttles at a port. Trailers are unbraked. They're a bastard to hook up when empty, and have fixed landing gear. I end up having to smash into them to stop them rolling down the dock. Not mechanically sympathetic, and I hate the massive clang and jerk that seems to be required, No problem with 60+ tonnes of logs on the loaded trailers, but the empties are just a PAIN!
Great vid but i didnt see any explanation about dropping tractor unit suspension when you move off from the trailor or raising it just before you go in. Im assuming thats what the red tape is for on the mud guard...the point at which is best to raise and drop the suspension on the unit or is it just me.
It's easier now.. the examiner doesn't watch you do the coupling and uncoupling.. the company that train you have to be satisfied you can carry out the exercise.. takes alot of pressure off you.. I passed my class 1 about 2 months ago.. this is a good video.
Loving the big red sticker above the offside drive axle. That's the most blatant Sticker / Mark / Cheat I've ever seen. And then there's the yellow tape on the O/S rear spray suppression. Not at all discreet. I'd chuckle if the examiner peeled them off one day before a test.
Hi, the truck suspension can drop itself if you come out slowly, plus we have sliders on the rear of truck which prevents the truck jumping up and hitting the trailer.

A couple of things that I thought you should have checked are, the reversing lights on the trailer when you checked the brake lights. Also the height of the trailer matched the height sign in the cab 👍
Aren't you suppose to turn the engine off every time you come off the cab
Watching from Nairobi Kenya, can't be explained better than this. Thank you
Great video I'll be watching this on a loop for the foreseeable future thanks mate.

We are driving log shuttles at a port.
Trailers are unbraked.

I dont think they teach that for passing the test.

Great video, I will be well.nervous doing this

Thank you very much.. have a good nights sleep can make all the difference.. don't give ups the main thing 😀
Is there any chance you could turn captions onto this video? I'm partially deaf and can't really understand what's being said
Loving the big red sticker above the offside drive axle. That's the most blatant Sticker / Mark / Cheat I've ever seen. And then there's the yellow tape on the O/S rear spray suppression. Not at all discreet. I'd chuckle if the examiner peeled them off one day before a test.
💪🏻
Where do you training from?
😎👍
Gud vid but would of been more helpful if we had seen your angle and technique for reversing for coupling. Camera? Or mirrors or both cheers
Why didn’t you drop the air after you came off the pin?
Hi, the truck suspension can drop itself if you come out slowly, plus we have sliders on the rear of truck which prevents the truck jumping up and hitting the trailer.
Did you check indecaters were working?
if you go to 21:31 you will here he says "cluster lights are working" . even with hazards on this is enough to satisfy the examiner
Disagree, if the indicators have been wired incorrectly you could end up with the unit indicating left and the trailer indicating right.@@sykes6163
