That should be nominated for the "Aquascaping Idea of the Year Award"! You never cease to amaze me. I would have never thought of that.
Lol! And a tiny little award! 😂
@@thesmallscape as long as it’s made of solid gold, like it should be 💃🏼💃🏼💃🏼
Nice hack! I've been avoiding dwarf hairgrass in my 2.5 quart femto pickle jar for that very reason, but now I'll just rustle up an old comb and hack away.
LOL that snail wants to be a star! Between this video and your hydro b roll LOL. This hack is amazing, love it. I could see it being helpful for planting a number of plants. I have trouble keeping hornwort or bacopa planted so I typically float it
Thank you for this awesome hack!!😊
That looks amazing you guys always come out with some amazing ideas and solutions you need a members option on your channel will sub for sure :) best way to plant a moss ordered some plants from flip aquatics all from Tropica first time dealing with tissue culture versions any advice ?
Amazing ideas! Thanks so much.
Good idea, another great hack
What a great idea!!! Thanks
I will definitely try it, great ideas.
Great idea! The micro sword was very hard to plant. I'll remember this for next time. I also followed your advice of saving the plant pots. Recently used one to create a mesh to place over the intake of the Tidal 35. I also don't like to put rocks straight onto the glass bottom, but hate using Styrofoam. So, found these $1 plastic cutting boards at the Dollar store and used them to line the bottom of the tank. Thanks for all the inspiration!
I'll have to check out those $1 cutting boards. I looked high and low for something I could put on the bottom of the tank to protect the glass from the rocks. I finally found "plastic cardboard" (go figure) at Home Depot, but it was more than $1. Ha ha. Thanks Lizette. By the way, great name you have..
@@penngrey the cutting boards worked well. And thanks! 😀
I’ll have to try this.
Probably the most innovative planting hack in a long long time! Great find!!!!!
Awesome hack! I have been frustrated by so many plants that spring up out of the substrate, this will help. Also I have dojo loaches that love to root around, this will keep those little boogers from up rooting every thing. On my way to the dollar store now! Lol
O!M!G!!!! I LOVE this idea. THANK YOU!! I’m going to use this.
Great idea 🙂
This is another wonderful inexpensive hack Joanna thank you so much! I love how you gently talk to your snails like I do 🥰
I love cheap hacks. Woohoo! ☺️
Brilliant!!! I would totally try that! Especially in aquasoil. Boy those mysteries love to steal the show don’t they!? Hope your weekend is great! Praying your Aquashella trip is FUN and for safe travels. 😊🌱 🐌 🐠 🐚
Aww thanks, looking forward to it and YES! My mysteries are looking for their own show I think. 😂
Ingenious, any plant would probably work with system. It gives the roots a firm anchor like a lead weght! You could write a book of non traditional helpful hints! 👍👍👍
That would be super fun! Like Kramer’s coffee table book..but tiny. 🌿
Ummm, yes, yes, and of course yes. Love microsword, dislike trying to plant it, especially if I'm trying to plant it in one of the tanks that has some Mystery Snails in it. (10 minutes after trying to get it to "stay" here comes Mr. 🐌...) OMG Love the hack!!!! (your snail listens well lol)
rubber band, like scrungi brand. And attach it to a peice of biohome. then just bury the biohome peice.
Oh ya!! 🙌
Wow Joanna! What a great tip. This is a 10 star video. I am going to be stopping off at the store today on my way home from work to pickup some combs. Thank you so much for this great tip. By the way, do you have any terrarium and/or dish garden builds planned for your other channel (Container Joy)?
I have been wondering the same thing. Do you create Terariums?
Gah..where was this a year ago. 😳 I gave up on this plant...hmm maybe I can try it again
So smart! This gives me all kinds of ideas. Thank you!
Great idea. Will defently try it out.
What a great hack Joanna- and it’s cheap! Keep these great ideas coming! I think your snail wants to be your co anchor- lol.
Oh my goodness! He most certainly does!! 😂🐌💜
Awesome hack! I will be trying this out right away. Thank you very much 😃
Goooooood luck!
You are soo clever! Thanks
amazing fish giant danio
Omg! What a great idea!!!
BEST planting Hack I've ever seen!!!
Great job :)
Lol. Yahoo! Hope you can use it. ☺️
@@thesmallscape anyone trying to plant "carpeting" foreground plants, knows this pain very well 😂😅🤣
Right???🌿 Absolutely brilliant 💪
Your ideas are amazing
☺️thank you!
Great idea! Who would have guessed to use the comb. Nice shorty video!!!
I am 2:26 minutes in and my mind is blown!😳
😌🙌
Genius 👍🏻👍🏻
Ohh I like this comb trick! Will work for my Helanthinum quadricostatus - the runners seem to find sand but float above aquasoil. It’s a great carpeting plant if you ever have a chance to get some.
Aren't you a clever girl my micro sword refuses to sit still! A bit like Jason 😉
😂😂
Ok clever girl! I have a clump of micro sword floating (again) in one of my tanks, and will totally be trying this brilliant hack today!
Oh so do I, I’m having fun wrangling it all up. 😌
Oh! My! Gosh!!!!
Spectacular tip!!! Best Hack ever!
Woohoo!! 🙌
Great idea I love it
Amazing idea!!!
Awesome idea!!!
I’ve had so much trouble with little plants like this!
Brilliant Hack! You are phenomenal
Thanks, Joseph..I have a strange mind..apparently focused in the hair cere aisle.
@@thesmallscape Your mind is brilliant, You are a treasure indeed.
Good Morning.
AWESOME!!!
Genius
This is wonderful information!! Your tips are always the best!! Cutting up one of my "duckweed" combs today 😁
Haha! Yup, have to start getting the “fun pack” of combs 😂
Very clever Grasshopper! I might only have a single strand left, but I will try again!
😂😂 good luck!
Absolutely McBrilliant !!! Another plastic that holds ( but for 'stemmed plants' ) are plastic Toy Soldiers, you can wedge roots between their legs and bury the entice thing in the substrate. It's just large enough to hold and small enough to slide under the substrate. 'AND' it's another Dollar Tree item !!!
Seriously??! Bam! I love it!! Just the thought of them all hiding under there...😂🌿🌿🌿
I just started my first aquascaping experiment 2 mo ago.
I thought it would be a relaxing experience, designing and planting my vision.
It was not relaxing. I have made up new (unkind) words and phrases while trying to get my plants to stay put! I think I ended up damaging parts of the plants.
Thank you for the tips!!!
Oh yes. I know the feeling aaaaaall too well. It SHOULD be relaxing and rewarding but sometimes is quite the opposite. A number of Crypts didn’t fare too well in some of frustrated attempts. Wishing you luck. ☺️
Love how your brain works with these outside the box ideas. They're inexpensive, and they WORK!!
👍❤👍
I wish RUclips would let me hit the like button 100 times for this! I can't even believe what I saw, WOW 😍😍 we need to figure out how your brain works because that is just amazing LOL
Haha! Oh, you should see the “duds”. 😂😂
I’m gonna do this to make pearlweed carpet better. Thanks!
Great! ☺️
This is the best idea ever!! I'm forever trying to get my plants to stay down. You are amazing Joanna 👏
Good luck with it! 🌿🍀🌿
🤩 Love your ingenuity 👋 Great tip, Again 👍 Thanks Joanna 🌼 💋🌿🐟🍂
💪🌿🥰
Joanna this is a nice hack and I appreciate it! I have a few other plants that this will work well with. Thinking that the comb pieces could possibly be removed once roots are established?
Joanna did you ever find those clear elastic bands at the dollar store? If you cannot find them, let me know and I'll send you a bunch.
Oh for sure you could probably fish out after they’re rooted. I’ve got so many different sizes and colors of bands lol - lots of hair care for my aquascaping! 😂
I love today's tip. Every time I get string algae out a whole string of it comes up. Can't wait to try. 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
AND now you can comb it while you’re at it! 😂
You can comb the hair algae...🤣🤣
I am going through this very thing with my first micro sword 🤣🤣 it is a stinker for sure 😤🤣
JOOOOOAAAAAANNAAA You already know I love you lady, but man I love you even more today 🤣🤣
I've almost collected everything I need to put together this little 3 gallon tank...You know a "Pico" Tank (did I use that the right way?🤣😁)
And I'm really trying to come up with ideas to start putting it together!! I cannot wait to feature this and shout you out like I love to do 💃🤣
I hope you don't mind 🙏♥️
I've only had my microsword for about a month but I can't tell you how many times I have my hand in the tank with my tweezers trying to stick little pieces of that stinker plant back down in the sand....driving me crazy 🤣🌿
Absolutely brilliant!!
One of the greatest things ever when you created your Channel always inspiring us future aquascapist with all these great tips and tricks along with your experience!!
I hope you're having a wonderful weekend my friend!!
Thank you for sharing 🙏🌿🐟🌿💚🥰🎉
Yay!! Isn’t micro sword a STINKER!! Oh boy, I hope it helps you out especially in a wee tank!! A pico- yes!! Yippee!! I hope you had a relaxing weekend and not too much wind. Yikes! Last week was bad!! Take care, friend. ☺️☺️☺️
Another amazing quality video
Thanks - see ya soon! 🌴🌴🌴
Fricken brilliant!! On my way to the dollar store to stock up on aquascaping supplies!! 😁
Hair combs! 😂😂😂 #TheGoodOldDays!
Lol!! Love it! ☺️
Oh thank god, that was fast🤪
I actually have some tank work to do today, thank you ☺️
Woohoo!!! Good luck! 👍
@@thesmallscape thanks that was the “plan” then not an hour after I sent that, our house flooded from the bathroom upstairs, it was a fun 24 hours, then last night my daughters tank that has a penguin 125 stopped working
Tried troubleshooting it, nothing, and it had a prefilled on there, it just stopped 🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️
Fortunately I had a spare pump, but that just added to the fun, didn’t get to try out your small scape hacks, doubt I will until at least Thursday.
Need some more luck because now I got to deal with insurance 🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️ and then penguin/Marineland customer service 🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️
@@phillipbruni2434 oh, Phillip. I’m so sorry about all of that. Geez, you got your share. Good luck with customer service and wrapping things up.
WHAT A FANTASTIC IDEA!!!!!! Thank you for sharing this. WOOP WOOP. LOVE IT.
This trick is Brilliant:) !! I am going to try this for sure.
Good luck!! 🍀
Whoaaaaa 🤯
💚💚💙💙
Great hack. I will be trying this. Thanks for posting
What a cool idea! Would have come in handy when I planted a bunch of little crypts. But, after much frustration, they are finally taking root and staying put. But, will remember this hack for future plantings. Thanks!
Omg! How have I never thought of this. I've had my very first micro sword plants bought years ago still floating around with other floating plants, tangled in mosses, and spread to other tanks to float around. Funny thing is, is that I have paludariums that I use these very combs to stick moss and other things into the foam backgrounds. I also use coated Bobby pins, which I have used a few to hold some of my moss down onto some mesh. Thank you for yet another fantastic and useful tip!
Sorry, watching late got stuck refereeing my sister and niece got a stream of apartments, stores and everything you can think of from Grenada. It looks like that’s were she will be going to College to become a Vet. No jokes today I have a headache!
That is awesome ♥️🥰💃
Well not the headache part 🙏🤗
Awww. I hope your headache didn’t last long.
Sister, I knew you were a genius, but this catapults you to the top of all time greats!! 🌱👏🤩
Definitely trying this in my 4g tank. Thanks for the tip!
W O W !!! So clever 💃🏼💃🏼💃🏼
What a great idea! I'm off to stock up on hair combs now. Was getting so frustrated with the plant. Was ready to bin it. Thank you Joanna👍
Oh yay! Now...just comb it! 😂😂
@@thesmallscape 🤣 I will. Air was blue with that plant trying to get it yo stay put haha
Your a genius!
Lol. Mad scientist, really. 😂
This is a life saver!!!!!
that cute little mystery snail looks awesome
Great hack 👀👍🏽✌🏽
YOU ARE A GENIUS
Pure genius!!😍
Awesome 💡 idea
Probably the most innovative planting hack in a long long time! Great find!!!!!
This is genius!
yep, im trying it ~ great tip! thanks!
This is genius!
Great hack! Never would have thought of that one. I love how your brain works...🍄✌️
It’s a strange little land in my brain.
I was watching and knew something good was coming! Never knew it would be this good lol OMgosh this is absolutely brilliant, yep mind blown🤯Thank you!!!!
Haha! Yippee! Hope it serves you well! ☺️
Struggling with this. I used micro-sword in a new tank, might have to try this is it comes up again as there will be fish soon. It was so hard to plant in aquasoil I actually drained the tank, and used a spoon to dig holes and plant these like garden plants.
You can also top the aqua soil with sand too or place small rock fragments strategically. 😊 Good luck!
I was always extremely frustrated trying to keep Micro Sword planted! 🤯 Thanks for the fantastic tip!!!😀
Joanna, you are simply amazing!! 🥰 How do you come up with these incredible ideas? I might have have to try microsword again. Do you think this hack would work with Hydrocotyle tripartita (Hydrocotyle Japan)? thank you! ! 🙏🏻
Aww - you’re so sweet, Nanci! Yup, it sure DOES work with hydrocotyle! 🌱🙂🌿
Oh, my god. You've just saved me so much time and headaches. Thank you.
🙌🥳
The last tip was me. I walk into Petco for dog food and walked out with 2 Blood Parrots. MISTAKE.
Haha! So you get it?! Yup. Been there done that!
So simple but ingenious!!! I have Micro Sword and I have a love/hate relationship with it and I will definitely use this idea.
Good luck with it! ☺️
What a bright and smart idea. Thank you. Would probably work great for small plants such as Anubias Petite for those that don’t want to glue to rocks/driftwood.
If you get just the Anubias roots into the substrate, yes! ☺️
My english dont have Words enough to describe how smart this is 😯 Thank you!!! ♥️ I will try it 👏
Good luck with it! ☺️
Brilliant!! I can’t wait to try this! I might still have a chance at growing dwarf hairgrass! 🌱🐟🐌💚
Good luck!! 🍀 ☺️
Hello Joanna, can frozen food be fed to scarlet badis? Wishing you and Jason safe travels to aqulashalla
Hi! Sure, if they eat it, that’s the other question... thank you so much! 🌴🐠
I've got a little plant in my 20 long that I love and it grows fast (can't remember what it is) but starts shooting out roots over an inch tall. I can never propagate it because it's so short and small it just floats up. So I just have left it alone and it looks so terrible with all the roots out I little sections. Now I can use this hack to keep them down so I can propagate it! Awesome video Joanna!
Woohoo!!! Hope it works for you!! ☺️
Brilliant, love it. Such a simple idea but mind blowing at the same time 👌🤩
Haha. Yippee!
You definitely think outside the box 📦 I would never have thought of this in a million years.
Oh yes. My mind is an odd little place. ☺️
