  • Are Maxxis tires still king? This combo from Michelin might change your mind!

What's up Buds! Earlier this season when we got our new 2020 Specialized Enduros, we had to upgrade a few key components. One of those being tires... While Blake stuck with his trusty Maxxis combo of the Assegai up front with the Aggressor out back, Chase decided to try something new.
Chase ended up choosing the Michelin Wild Enduro combo. Why? Well, they are about $20 cheaper per tire over Maxxis, have a clean sidewall with white lettering rather than ugly yellow as seen on Maxxis, and not too many people run them. We like to be different sometimes so he went with a brand that isn't seen too often on the trails! So far they have been every bit as good as the competition!

Any chance you guys could do an in depth version of this video? For example, not just the initial impression, but timed testing with multiple riders (downhill), skids test, climbing techy climbs, ect. I'm considering the same exact Maxxis setup for my 2020 Enduro next season, and I might be able to seal the deal with some Michelins if you guys did some more testing! Look forward to what you guys come up with as I love watching your vids!

Thanks for the great review. I just replaced my maxis DHF/DHR 2,4 MaxTerra/MaxGripp with Michelin Wild Enduro 2,4 MagiX/GumX compound and have already ridden the mountains twice on my Canyon Torque. Yes, these tires are surprising. Especially cornering - the lateral hooks are just super. On maxis would have already been demolished, but the Michelin are holding. I’m very happy with the new tires.

Good to see others venturing away from the typical Maxxis setup! Great stuff. I made the jump to the Wild Enduro about 6 months ago and I do not regret the decision. Just picked up the WE Rear for my new build. The only complaint is that they don't offer a 2.5 or 2.6 option in 29. Other than that, I love them. Don't wear fast, super predictable, and the casing is surprisingly stout without being harsh or downhill heavy. And if you shop around you can get them for a great price. I paid 40$ for the last one I picked up.

I finally got these! Found the same front and rear combo on Pinkbike brand new for $100. One local foothills ride which is loose over hardpack kinda gravelly and Sandy and a trip to the bike park. They bite down into the ground and have great grip and steep loose uphill and feel great leaning into corners going downhill. My previous favorite combo was Assagai Exo+ F and Agressor DD R. Couldn't be happier with these tires. Even brand new from retailer they would be cheaper than my old Maxxis combo. After the upcoming winter season next spring I'll probably add a cushcore since I ride a lot of chunky technical terrain and do 3 bike park trips a year. Thanks for you're review it influenced me to get these couple friends are gona try them out too. 😊

So with a few rides in ive had some time to have some initial impressions on the 2.6 rear enduro paired with the 2.6 magic mary.
It's mad how well this tyre grips especially in off camber sections, it also climbs impressively well in technical terrain. I went guns blazing through a properly rough rocky section and this caused me no problems. Unfortunately my friend got a puncture in his dd agressor (although im pretty sure he was running a low psi and very little sealant doh!!)
the little time ive spent on this setup has been used within a mixture of wet and dry conditions. These seems to do well in either, really feels like the rear tyre ive been looking for (inbetween a hans dampf and magic mary)
The one problem which i feared was indeed true. it's a bit of a pig to peddle on flat sections, in fairness its got good rolling speed for how chunky it is, but there is still a noticeable drag and excessively tiring. Unfortunately i have alot of that flatter terrain around where i live. If you do more gravity riding rather than trail riding then this could work very well. Im speaking of course for the 2.6 tyre size which is a heavy set up coming in at nearly 2.3kg with the magic mary up front
That being said Ive just ordered a set of gum x front and rear of wild enduros in 2.4. I loved the characteristics of the enduros with a bit of a weight saving this could be perfect for me 🤞🤞🤞

I hadn't any issues except a double flat while pumping hard in a rough rock garden (during the megavalanche in reunion island) For now I'm running assegai front and rear, both in DH casing. The grip is excellent whether it is cornering or braking. But I had to admit that it sticks more to ground when you are pedalling on liaison, so it tires you out more than the Michelin.
