3:33 - wait till you see, how Porsche participated in the Rally Dakar back in the days...
You should check out Michèle Mouton greatest female driver and she drove during the group b era
Porsches where used and even Ferraris all thought those teams who drove them were actually lower budget than the top from Audi, Peugeot and Lancia.
Rally consists usually like 20 special stages during the weekend, special stage is usually from 15km to 30km, also moving around to get on these stages is part of rally too. During this era, special stages lasted to the night.
Also stages are public roads (closed during the race) so its point to point racing timed stages, whoever gets the combined shortest stage times wins the Rally
3:17 - "didnt see any guardrails". You should really check "Ari Vatanen, Climb Dance" next!
Hello ! My father was a rally driver in the late 70s (amateur driver so not on par with the drivers from these clips), racing with a Simca 1000. The races are time trials and are not laps but going from point A to point B. I live in the southern Alps in France, where a lot of Rally competitions take place throughout the year, the most notable one being Monte-Carlo Rally, and the roads here are great for rallying : twisty mountain roads with snow and ice during winter. I drive regularly on such roads and they generally go from one village to another with people from the region (and for Monte-Carlo, from around the world) attending as spectators on the side of the road. Security measures have increased since Group B but there are still accidents, especially in the more amateur rallyes which don't have enough money for greater security.
The car that was "screaming" (02:33 fwd) is a Lancia Abarth 037 (2.0 litre supercharged FIAT engine derived from the FIAT Abarth 131 Rally car). It was one of four truly exceptional rally cars produced by Lancia: the Lancia Fulvia in the early 1970s; the Lancia Stratos in the mid-70s; then the Lancia 037; and finally the Lancia Delta (Group 4 and Group A versions) in the 1980s and 1990s.
5:30 the car that looked and sounded expensive was a ferrari 308 gto. that was one of the manufacturers who planned to join group b in 1987
The stuttering sound you heard was an exhaust valve, letting out excess pressure from the turbo when the engine doesn't need it (switching gears up).
The races were (are) held on public roads, no tickets.
Yes, they race against the clock. The cars are launched with a few minutes apart for safety, and to avoid a slower car holding up a faster one. Usually the fastest cars on the previous stage/race are launched first.
For ice and snow conditions they use studded tyres, pieces of metal pourtruding outside the tyre. For drivers it's like racing in gravel, the grip is amazing. Another hint is studded tyres are narrower than other tyres, less contact surface but more weight pressure from the car to the wheels, helping the tyre to crunch more the ice or compacting the snow even more, gaining more grip even.
At the world championship, all the drivers are professional, they are payed for drive at the races
The MG Metro 6R4 is the neat little boxy and aero heavy car near the start, from memory the car has a "V6" which is actually a V8 thats been chopped up a bit and is the only natrually aspirated engine of the 4wheel drive class.
That sharp pssshui sound in some cars is a dump-valve on the turbo charger opening to release (too much) overpressure.
I recommend that you look at videos that have an inside view to see what happens in the driver's cabin. (Like "Ari Vatanen's big Rally moment in the Opel Manta 400".)
iv been lucky enough to hear meany of these cars over the years in rallying as its a huge sport in wales/uk and trust me they sound 100x better in real life, than what you can hear in a video can feel it in the chest when one flys past you
Spectators didn't need to purchase tickets because they raced on public roads
It's time attack from point A to point B with multiple stages
The weird turn at 7:00 is because race cars have limited steering lock. The hairpin was both too slow and too narrow at the apex to drift through it safely (see: stone walls on the outside of the road) so the only option was to go wide (left) on entry and fully lock the steering in order to create the radius necessary for the turn.
Those 4wd cars did not have hand brake at all, thats why they do hairpins like that
@@MrBanaanipommi this is also true. But also compounded by the fact that the corner itself was simply too slow to allow the driver to approach it with a 4 wheel throttle drift.
You have to remember that they are driving from pace notes from a co-driver, technically a good pairing of driver/co-driver don’t even have to look at the road to be able to drive at those speeds 👌🏻
Nice video!!! Group B WAS great.... 5:30 White Ferrari....
Just to comment on your reactions/comments: Those group B competitions were mostly done by factory teams, which for example explains Porsche, which was for sure not privately owned. Same goes for Lanica, Audi, Metro, ... It is true, you could, as a driver buy this car, as 200 needed to be made for homologation, but i can't even imagine what the price tag would be if they had been willing to sell it to you (for example, Audi from this era, group B specs was for sale for just shy of a million EUR). And yes, factory drivers were quite well compensated for driving their factory team to the top of the boards. Just for tought: Ferrari was also developing a car (229 GTO), but never entered the race as it was prematurely banned, partially because of dangers to spectators and partially due several crashes, last one with 2 fatalities - Henri Toivonen and Sergio Cresto. Also, you mention several times how good these tires must have been. Bear in mind that the tires, suspensions, ... were all made in late 70, early 80 - so we have tires and suspensions on our road cars now, that are light years ahead. It was all on the drivers.
What other videos should we do?! 🤔 Can be any topic 💬
Maybe check Michele Mouton, most successful female rally driver.
Check the video "what's the wrc" at channel fia world rally championship
For more f1 content, what about "10 circuits we'd like to see back in f1" by the channel Autosport, sure its a 3yo video but it's still dated because none of these amazing circuits returned yet 😁👍
Look up videos on the drivers of Group B rally, like Michele Muton or Walter Röhl.
Audi😘👏🏼🍻
that's not backfire, that's the anti-lag system that gives you so much pleasure. Snow and Ice= Spikes. A race lasts for about 3 days. Everyday there are multiple special stages. Cars start with about one minute time delay. They race against time not against each other ( Formula sport). In the end the times are added. The drivers definetly earn money. At Group B times it might have been less then today
Snow and ice tires are fairly hard and narrow.
The rally drivers have huge salaries
No apple or orange juice!!!! Both full of sugar!!!!! Water only ❤
Rally at night is indeed insane but at least the drivers have someone next to them telling the turns that are coming, which means that despite everything being so dark, they know where they are going and what's coming!
5:30 that was expensive indeed.... thats a ferrari haha
5:29 That was a Ferrari. So yes, it was expensive. 😁
But way lower budget car than peugeot audi and lancia etc.. :D
Just a normal morning in Germany driving to work 😂❤
"oooh... that one looked and sounded expensive..."
As Ferraris do...
The "square" one you liked is the Metro 6R4 a mid engined beast, mind you they were all animals, automotive porn..
and it had the same engine sans turbos as the Jag XJ220
6:11... yep, times...
1:56... Funny, I just wondered, " is that apple juice or beer?..."^^
\O>
When inwas young in the late 90s the really "cool" guys had extra waste gate horn to make that sound louder. So they you pull up outside thenhighschool and pick up babes
Ooh trust me you have to see the night races
Loving the rally videos and definitely apple juice 😂
I can recommend onboard Rally videos. To get a better feeling for the speed.
Hey, since you're reacting to motorsports stuff, you should check out keiichi tsuchiyas gunsai touge run with his Toyota ae86. Tis a suggestion.
..they go in 2 min interval, usually..
No, no, no - I wouldn''t like to.
I appreciate you.
Let us race this Rallieys and Let's evaluate this tomorrow
Audi S1 love it
Yeah so these races are timed on closed public roads for the rally in a point A to point B where all the cars are lined up at point A and spaced out by a set time between cars
only 1 thing is 100% sure in each rally event. trees always win.
Formula one drivers have absolutely nothing on rally drivers.
I recommend reacting to formula drift competitions
There Sina Story about Walter Röhrl when they had a night race by foggy conditions
It was Lacia 037
2:44 Lancia 037
Could you react to World Endurance Championship car series?
Has anyone mentioned Isle of man tt race yet?
The drivers and co drivers did get paid. Just not as much as other top tier motorsport disciplines.
who told you they don't get money? lol... they are international heroes and considered as the best drivers on the planet (not F1).
Porche had a factory team, but it was a crappy car.
5:30 That was a Ferrari?!? I dint know Ferrari raced in Group B...
May I suggest Josh Revells vid on Group B driver Michèle Mouton
You think it's more impressive on dirt raods? Meh... It's most impressive on snowy/icy roads!
Those cars didn’t have hand brake ! Wasnt invented yet for a four wheel
you have to reach wrc crashes
Do a video on Michelle Mouton
React to f1 v10 sounds
Renault R5
They have small nails in tyres
snow rallys cars go faster
Did you vlog the Beyoncé concert and if you did when will we be able to watch that?🤍
Yes! Still working on editing it, will be out soon! 😊
