For the load arms you can research fuel color codes. You did a good job on the fuel loading stations. To add more realism, white/black bands on UNL. Red for Super. Yellow/Green for Diesel. The bands go on the truck load arms. Looks good
Wow, that refinery section is looking amazing. Great work on design and build of those transfer facilities. I love how you aren't afraid to show your uncertainties or mistakes on the video and how you correct whatever you're not happy with. Great work, videos like this one will keep me watching! 👍🏻👍🏻
Hi just want to provide some idea to help your refinery are a look more prototypical. 1. make sure you have diking around all the the storage tanks. 2: The truck load area would not have its own tanks as they would be piped from the main storage tanks. 3: have no trees and only short grass around the site. and finally 4: give all the tanks some kind of tank number on the sides and what is in the tank.
Thanks for the tips. I plan to put a berm around the storage tanks, though it will be only semi realistic since the pipes are there. I considered putting some numbers on the tanks, I have the decals, but didn't want them to stick out like a sore thumb since they are already weathered.
@@nscaler454 I used to work at a tank farm and having a nice clean area around tank numbers because they had been repainted is normal and the piping can be run through the side of the diking.
Lovely layout. Don't forget that, due to the high fire risk, there will need to be fire brigade access routes at all areas as well as plenty of fire hydrants.
Wow! That turned out great. It's very cool that you can design, print, assemble and paint your creations. The whole facility has continuity and is very convincing. Nice job!
G’day Mate looks bloody awesome!!!!! One thing I would add is the spillage dam around the larger tanks. Dunno about the US, but in Australia our EPA regulations require refineries and tank farms to have spillage dams surrounding the tanks. They’re normally rectangular (could also be square) and stand around 20 feet (almost 5 meters) off the tanks, and are about 8 feet in height off the ground. A nice touch would be some fire fighting and spillage equipment. BUT having put my dollars worth of comment in, Awesome Job. Are the 3d models you created available for sale? I’d love to have them on my tank farm.
Looking great! Love the pipe work and those custom supports. It ties the whole area together for sure. Bravo on the truck loading facility as well. That definitely fills out that space nicely. With the other space you’re wanting to fill, I think some scenery in that space would totally transform and not necessarily need to be filled with a structure. If you do decide to go with a structure of some sort, maybe a vertical element like a water tower or even a cell phone tower or some sort of antenna would be sweet.
I have loaded trucks at many different refineries in Alberta and would love to have had a roof over my head at any of them. I do love the design of your facility and think it compresses all of the items seen at a refinery into a nice neat package. About the only thing I did not see is an administration building that you could fit into one of the open spaces you have left as a suggestion. I wish I had your skill in modeling.
@@nscaler454 I am actually from Barrie Ontario but lived and trucked in Alberta for 8 years. during the 80's. What part of Alta are you from. I am hoping to get out there in the next year or two to visit my brother.
A 2nd set of wires down the same tube? Stretch a section of shrink tubing with the wires in it, paint it & secure it to the 1st post. You will be adding individual pieces in real life why not on the layout? Add some uniqueness to your layout.
This facility needs it's own Fire Dept, Control Room, maybe Guard House? I'm retired from the petrochemical industry and your transfer facility/refinery is very convincing.
Looks great. Oddly enough I just visited the Ingevity plant in DeRidder, La and saw the train loading station you built in real life. They have two sets and the plant is extremely compact and busy. You should google map it as it has a very interesting rail yard.
Great job ,everything came together very well. You have been very busy and made great progress. I don’t know how you got those wires in but good job. Very busy area on the layout. Looking forward to seeing how you put in the roads. Thanks for sharing. Have a good day.
Nicely done on the truck loading rack! You made it a 'dual use' top loading AND bottom loading...Hmmm, think that would be a first that I know of from my 16 years of fuel hauling, but very cool! Any plans on making the print files for the truck loading rack available?
I'm not sure about making the .stl files available, but I have been in talks with a company about doing prints if someone wanted to buy the model. We'll see if that works out.
That's is perfect for my layout, How fast can you sent it to me, lol lol, just kidding You should look into going into production I'd buy it, as even one agrees you do a awesome job
Thanks. I would love to go into production for some things. Some things I would be willing to print/sell for people. The truck fuel center could possibly work. The train loading facility wouldn't as it was so heavily customized, and too many pieces.
I’ve got two of those tanks with the light and completed refinery kit that you can have. Let me know and I would be glad to mail it to you. I decided not to use them. So they are just sitting here waiting.
As a truck driver that pulls tankers, this is the most spot on and detailed model of the places I load up from!
WOW!
That's a huge compliment. Thank you!
Love How you did that trying to Model like that.

Good point! I'll keep that in mind.
Very Well 👍👍👍👍
U did a fantastic job on the refinery- your skills and attention to detail are amazing
Thank you very much!
Awesome video
I think it looks great! Your skills are impressive. Thanks for showing
I love it!!!

The 3D printer has certainly come in handy. Thanks!

You could always add a way to load ships out of the corner area maybe

I never even considered a cell phone tower. A water tower might be fitting. I wonder if it would work with the surrounding structures.
@@nscaler454 You can do both! I see water towers all the time that have the cell phone equipment on them.

Yellow is a difficult color to get right. Those railings look sharp and realistic.

Looking real good... My personal thought is to double up on the 2 tanks on the far side of the track @ 4.15 = total of 4

Installing the piano wires wasn't nearly as hard as I expected. I guess I measured pretty good the first try.
always great to watch your work; very realistic, in the empty space, you could had offices or a control room, or a maintenance facility
Thanks. Some excellent ideas.
This looks awesome!
what is the purpose of the mining building... lots of tedious painting on the loading platform... nice job 👍🏻looks great👌🏻👍🏻..thx 4 sharing... vinny
On my layout, the mining building simulates a Petcoke facility. It's a byproduct in the oil refinery process and it looks a lot like coal.
@@nscaler454 thanks for our response
Two thumbs up! 👍👍 awesome job, I'm looking to do something like this on my layout.

Unfortunately the supports are a PITA but it is necessary to have them. Thanks for ordering!
Turned out killer. Do you have the the stl files available somewhere in HO scale?
All my stuff is made for N Scale. I have never even tried to upscale to HO scale.
Did you design the three prints for both loading and unloading facilities
I designed all of the 3D prints that I have.
